To say that Columbo's is old school would be an understatement. The booths, the red sauce and the stand up singer all give visual cues to a very bygone era. The Goodfellas could have downed some linguini & clams while they discussed who to pop for moving in on the territory, never mind that the Eagle Rock location is about as removed from The Neighborhood as you can imagine. But somehow, like a rare orchid, Columbo's has survived. When ordering your entree, I'd highly recommend sticking to one of the classics. No funny business like arancini or a modo mio allowed.
Review Source:Went here on a whim and a recommendation. Seven of us gathered for our regular Steak Club. We had great, strong cocktails at the bar before moving to our table. The bartender was flustered and all mixed-up, which means she must not get very many customers on a regular basis. But we were patient and waited for our bill to be sorted out.
We then moved to our table and ordered drinks. Shortly thereafter, the manager came over and very rudely asked us to keep our voices down and to cut-down on the swearing. Mind you, some of us do speak to each other and the group as if we were on the sidelines of a baseball game. Yet, there were no children anywhere in the place, only a bunch of old people. Whatever pal...
The steaks. Terrible. The price is right but the preparation was sub-par. The porterhouse was prepared in some kind of garlic sauce and lacked flavor completely. I had to add salt, pepper, and worschestershire sauce to make it somewhat palatable. The baked potato was dry and didn't wow anyone. Their marinara sauce and fried zuchinni was tatsy, but that doesn't make up for a crappy steak.
My suggestion, move on to the next place...
I've been here a couple times for what they serve up best:
Basic Italian food and a variety of music. Â Each time our server has been Lauren and she is a delightful ray of sunshine every time she comes to the table.
I have ordered the same thing both times but folks I'm with have graciously allowed me to sample their food and it is all good. Â I had the Italian sausage with pasta. Â Fyi, I get 2-3 meals out of this.
Colombo's is old school classic straight-up.
