To say that Columbo's is old school would be an understatement. The booths, the red sauce and the stand up singer all give visual cues to a very bygone era. The Goodfellas could have downed some linguini & clams while they discussed who to pop for moving in on the territory, never mind that the Eagle Rock location is about as removed from The Neighborhood as you can imagine. But somehow, like a rare orchid, Columbo's has survived. When ordering your entree, I'd highly recommend sticking to one of the classics. No funny business like arancini or a modo mio allowed.

Went here on a whim and a recommendation. Seven of us gathered for our regular Steak Club. We had great, strong cocktails at the bar before moving to our table. The bartender was flustered and all mixed-up, which means she must not get very many customers on a regular basis. But we were patient and waited for our bill to be sorted out.

We then moved to our table and ordered drinks. Shortly thereafter, the manager came over and very rudely asked us to keep our voices down and to cut-down on the swearing. Mind you, some of us do speak to each other and the group as if we were on the sidelines of a baseball game. Yet, there were no children anywhere in the place, only a bunch of old people. Whatever pal...

The steaks. Terrible. The price is right but the preparation was sub-par. The porterhouse was prepared in some kind of garlic sauce and lacked flavor completely. I had to add salt, pepper, and worschestershire sauce to make it somewhat palatable. The baked potato was dry and didn't wow anyone. Their marinara sauce and fried zuchinni was tatsy, but that doesn't make up for a crappy steak.

My suggestion, move on to the next place...

I've been here a couple times for what they serve up best:

Basic Italian food and a variety of music.  Each time our server has been Lauren and she is a delightful ray of sunshine every time she comes to the table.

I have ordered the same thing both times but folks I'm with have graciously allowed me to sample their food and it is all good.  I had the Italian sausage with pasta.   Fyi, I get 2-3 meals out of this.

Colombo's is old school classic straight-up.

Food was not good. They had some problem with the kitchen and our waiter never told us that our food got delayed.... they offered us a discount for that but we still had to wait for our food and we were starving. The place looks old, stuffy, not really clean. Needs a makeover. We won't recommend it nor comeback.

The restaurant name describes the restaurant exactly--there is steak, there is Italian food, and there is jazz.

There is a small parking lot or street parking. When you walk in, you're instantly transported to a different time.  It's super retro.

You slide into your booth while some live jazz is playing.

The food is pretty good and is pretty affordable.  You get complimentary garlic bread - yum! The steak was perfectly cooked and the sauteed spinach was great--fresh, not too oily, salty, or buttery. The side salad was pretty big and is only $2 with an entree. The calamari was very crispy.  The handrolled lasagna was awesome!!!!!  Yummy!  (If you don't finish, make sure to ask for extra sauce with your takeout).

The service was friendly, great, and attentive.

My husband and I came on a Saturday night for my friend's birthday dinner. We sat in a private room called the *screaming room*.Not sure what it means but my guess it's the best place to eat when you're having a fight lol.The room was nicely decorated and with good lighting. They have old Italian pictures on the wall reminiscent of Buca Di Beppo.

We ordered the calamari and lasagna. The waiter suggested that since the lasagna comes with 4 rolls we could choose half meat and half spinach with goat cheese.Failed!!! The waiter forgot to tell them so I was disappointed. Although we just had the meat lasagna, it was very delicious.I would highly recommend it if you're not sure which lasagna to order, meat lasagna would be a best bet.

Personally,I think their prices are comparable to Cheesecake Factory.

Parking-they have FREE valet but very limited due to their small parking lot.We ended up parking on the street which was quite a far walk. I don't think parking would be an issue on a weekday.

This review is only for the brunch.

Cons: It's dark and there's no windows. Once you realize that's part of the charm....

Pros: The food is excellent, dishes start at $6.95, the food is excellent, portions are generous, staff is great. There's live music, mimosas and more. The steak is tender. The egg omelets are huge. Overall, a crowd pleaser for our entire party.

I enjoy coming to this place.  You can get a good meal and listen to some live music.

The parking can be a bit of a pain.  They do have valet which helps but if they are full, parking on the street can be really challenging.  Sometimes the valet can get overwhelmed though and turn away patrons, I've had this happen a couple times and luckily I've found a parking spot close by but then when I get to the place from where I parked the valet is ready to take cars, instead of waving me off that the lot is full how about having me wait while he is playing car Tetris and then park my car?

Inside its a small cozy place.  I'm a big guy so that can be challenging because it feels like they tried to cram as many tables in there as possible, have one too many Cannoli's and you'll take out have the dinning area.  There is a room off to the side called the 'screaming room' and when I come here with my friends we like to sit over here, you can hear the music but it can be more private.

I've had a couple items here, more recently I've been trying new items.  The main item I get I the NY Steak.  Take note however that you pay for the steak and any side dishes separately, so the baked potato is a couple more bucks.  I like to get the wedge salad they do this right all the way through with ample bacon, tomato, blue cheese crumbs and dressing. The other dish I've had is the Chicken Piccata and I enjoyed that however I would have liked the option to have pasta or spinach, it comes with spinach and I would have preferred pasta.  I imagine you could ask them to swap it and next time I will.

For starters I high recommend the fried mozzarella sticks those are awesome.

The service has been pretty good when I visited however I've also gone with a larger party for a birthday and service was lacking compared to my other visits and when 18% gratuity is added, no one should have to chase down the waiter for more basics things (like a soda refill or to get the check to name a couple).  When I've gone with my friends I haven't had this issue but there's 4 of us versus the 20 we had as a party.

After reading the reviews, I would have to agree with the four-star comments.

Last evening I came here for the first time with a group of 10.  We were seated promptly and our waiter/busboy were extremely gracious and patient.  Service was excellent.  Food was absolutely delicious.  I had the rolled lasagna (spinach/goat cheese) which was probably the best I've had anywhere (and I do dine out quite often at upscale restaurants). It certainly all tasted home-made, including the sauce which had a slight sweetness (which is the way my Naplitano mother prepared it).   Portions were large, bread was plentiful, house wine was decent.  I believe all in my group of 10 were entirely satisfied.

Yes, it's an elderly crowd; yes, the decor is a bit dated/traditional Italian; but there was definitely atmosphere, many of the diners seemed friendly, and there were lots of smiling faces.  My group was so busy conversing that we didn't give the deserved attention to the entertainment which was quite good!

Three of us continued to the bar after dining. It was very low-key and comfortable at the bar.  I even had a Drambuie/rocks for under $10.00.

I would definitely return to Colombo's and would highly recommend it to any diners who are considering a visit.   I hope they enjoy it as much as my group and I did!!

    Bravo, Colombo's!!!

p.s.  The parking lot is small, but there is plenty of side-street parking and unlimited-time parking on Colorado after 6:00 p.m.

Awesome night of food and wonderful jazz music.  We were surprised by a talented group of various musicians from the diners.  They jammed a good part of the evening.  Had a great time.

we made dinner reservations with "Open table" . parking is a little tight in the lot, but there is a attendant to help you. the atmosphere was very cool, and live music made this visit fun. Our server was great and very attentive. I never ran out of drinks, the staff was on top of things.  I had the swordfish. tasted very good. Overall I would recommend this place, make sure to make a reservation as they get busy on the weekends. will  come back soon.

Colombo's was really good. It was much more than what I had expected and the service was good. I went with my date and since she likes jazz music the live jazz made it even more special. I had high hopes for a great turn out with the live music it just blew me away. The service was great, food was terrific, and overall we enjoyed ourselves. Definitely coming back again.

Not at all what I expected. The ambiance and live music take this one over the top, the food is pretty good and the options are pretty straight forward Italian.

Red cushion seats, live music, great service = great night

Call ahead for reservations so that you can be sure to sit in a booth in the main room.
Definitely consider this place for a special occasion, you'll have a fun time (special occasions include "IT'S FRIDAY!").

(Dined 01/06/13 SU @ 6pm): A return to this Eagle Rock landmark was a must with this can't-miss Double Take Deal offer!

In the never-ending quest to remind myself of the beautiful past found in Los Angeles, a daily deal ($40.00 of food for $20.00) brought me back to Colombo's Italian Steakhouse & Jazz Club more than a decade later. My friend and I had dinner reservations and they promptly seated us at a table close to the stage where there was nightly entertainment, and this night was no different with a trio led by an older songstress backed my a pair of gentlemen on guitar and drums. I love live entertainment with dinner like lounges of the past (ne: The Dresden Restaurant in Los Feliz). We also happened to be along a wall and plexiglass that divided us from the bar area, but I snuck in some peeks at the TV and caught some scores.

We were both starving so we devoured the complimentary basket of bread with standard paper-wrapped pats of butter. We both wanted some meat and I remembered this place being very good at theirs. We briefly looked at the menu and were ready to order: the evening's pan seared rib eye with breaded shrimp and a baked potato special, and a bowl of zucchini tomato basil soup ($21.00) seemed like a hell of a value for me; the New York strip ($18.00), a side of baked potato ($2.00) and salad ($2.00) was on tap for my friend. And, a nice bottle of 2011 Chianti of Ponte Vecchio ($18.00) to wash down the meal.

As we sipped on the surprisingly light body with a smooth and clean finish of Chianti, we started on another basket of bread before our appetizers arrived. The vegetable soup was perfect for the tepid weather outside as it warmed my cockles. There were big pieces of veggies. I had a taste of my friend's salad which was simple and adequate, but I like the semi-sweet Italian house dressing. Our respective meals came out shortly after, and I was please with the cut of meat we both got. Neither of us could wait so we grabbed our knives and lanced off a a cut of juicy animal flesh and chewed with near sexual enjoyment. The rib eye was topped with what appeared to be pine nuts and the suppleness of the meat as it melted in my mouth was lovely. As I got towards the middle, it was more pink than I'd hoped, but my friend reminded me that I order it medium instead of my usual medium-well; my bad. My friend's New York was equal in many ways but had more of a salty blackened seasoning to it. Otherwise, all was good. The baked potato was huge but came with minimal fixings like chopped green onions, sour cream and butter. I wished it came with more (i.e. bacon bits, cheese, etc.), but I still ate - skin and all! The fried shrimp was of decent size and wasn't too breaded. I only wished I had more!

The service was very good as we were seated immediately by a lovely young hostess with menus in-hand, and our server quickly came by with some bread and water-filled glasses. Our food came out rather quickly and they were on the ball to clear the empty plates, fill our water glasses, and checked on us periodically.

Parking was good since they had their own parking lot albeit a bit crammed and snugged. Otherwise, free street parking was available along the main drag of Colorado Blvd. as well as the surrounding side streets. Be sure to check the posted signs depending on the time of day you dined.

Overall. I hoped to see Colombo's Italian Steakhouse & Jazz Club around for decades to come (since 1954). The vibe was very chill and a great piece of Eagle Rock/Los Angeles continuity. I found great value based on the prices and service noted above (total bill before deal was around $66.00; tip excluded). The atmosphere/décor was dimly lit with wooden tables and chairs in a closed quarters dining area. The stage was viewable from any area and the sound was nice since it had a cavernous feel. There were random pictures of personalities and old advertisements. I'd never been in the bar area but it appeared to be a nice neighborhood hangout. The attire was at minimum business casual (the joint had an air of class), so no t-shirt, boardshorts, or flip-flops for me. Although my friend treated, they accepted my credit card of choice...AMEX!

This was our second visit to Colombo's - I have to say right out of the gate, they had the best tasting Anti Pasta salad with a Basil dressing that was just right. My wife loves their Lasgna, I had the Sausage with Onions and Peppers sandwhich, Next time i will try one of the Steaks, stay tuned.

Probably should have reviewed this place many, many years ago.  I've been coming here for over 20 years, usually for lunch, and have watched it go up-down-sideways-up, etc.  When Mrs. Colombo was still alive and used to come to the restaurant for lunch, I frequently sat with her and talked about our respective upbringings in East LA.  She passed away several months ago - Memory Eternal!  She was a one of a kind.

Her nephew, Victor, has been running the place for a number of years.  I've had an ongoing love-hate relationship with him.  Over the last few years, however, Victor has worked very hard to make this restaurant the kind of place where you can go and feel at home in.  I now enjoy it very much.

Unfortunately, I am one of those people that, once they find something that they like on the menu, they do not deviate.  I am a great fan of the Chicken Parmesan.  I always have some soup, and I always have the pasta with olive oil and garlic, rather than spaghetti sauce.  Mouth is watering now.

I no longer live close by, but I do manage to get there once or twice a month.  Should also say that they have a great bar.

So,Victor: don't screw up!  I'll be up again next week...

Colombo's is a favorite for hanging out and enjoying some music and good food. My only complaint about this place is the portion size of the rack of lamb or lamb chops but I guess for $19, what do you expect. The servers are friendly and the food reasonably priced and delicious. Definitely a place to try if you haven't already.

Ordered the porterhouse. Anytime you have to add A1 to a steak tells me it was a below average steak. The side of pasta was nothing special.

I don't usually write reviews.  Furthermore, I've never been one to write a negative review; I don't feel it's worth the effort, and I don't want to sabotage anyone's business.  This surely isn't my intention here either, but after eating here and being disappointed again on Saturday night, I felt extremely compelled to write this.

I'd like to start off by saying that this is a restaurant that I've always sung praises of, and encouraged people to go to in the past.  It's got a really fun atmosphere, it's Italian, and it's a steakhouse!  The last few times I've been here though, I've been disappointed with the food.  The red sauce is definitely not worthy of a privately owned Italian establishment.  This is one of the most important aspects of authentic Italian food.  The shrimp cocktail I had was not very great.  It did not taste fully fresh, maybe a day old, and was overly refrigerated to the point where parts of it and the sauce were a little frozen.  It  was much like grocery store-bought shrimp cocktail.  The steaks were not very tasty either.  Not only did they not look appetizing (they were light brown, with the appearance of a Denny's or Applebee's steak), but they didn't taste "restaurant quality."  In addition, they served A1 with the steaks, which at a steakhouse is unheard of!  Steakhouses have A1 available upon request, and it is usually an insult to request it.

The steaks were served a la carte and the vegetables had to be purchased as sides.  The veggies were somewhat bland, and the spinach was overly wilted.  The food was definitely not worth the price tag.

It's unfortunate that I had to write this review for a place I like so much, but something needs to be done about their food as of late.

I really love this place. My bf lives a few blocks away, and it's become somewhat of a Sunday ritual of ours to walk here for brunch to catch some NFL (and now NBA) games. Woohoo! It doesn't look like much from the outside. Once you enter, you immediately feel like you've entered a time warp. It's dark and super old school. The owner definitely did a great job of preserving the the interior decor, and I think the old school style definitely adds to it's charm. There is a bar area with 3 TVs (where we usually stay at), a main dining room w/a stage and piano, and another little room with a TV. They usually have a jazz singer anda pianist in the main room. So far, I've had their antipasto salad which is awesome, bolognaise- awesomex2, and their bfast which is pretty standard. I haven't tried their steak, so I can't say if this place actually lives up to a real "Italian steakhouse".

The one thing that really makes it for me...and why this is getting all 5 stars is the service. Ivan the bartender is super cool. He's one of the most down to earth people you'll ever meet. Once you meet him, he treats you like you guys have been friends for years. I know it sounds weird, but from my experience, I have this intuition about whether people are trustworthy and REAL or not when I first meet them, and I had a good feeling about him when I first met him. He always remembers what we like drinks wise. =) Also, Frank is awesome, too! I actually thought he was the owner of the place.

Anyway, definitely worth a check out. This place adds to the charm of the little cutesey neighborhood of ErOcK!

Colombo's is Eagle Rock's best hidden gem.  It doesn't look much from the outside but the LIVE Jazz and Blues music livens it up!  Very talented musicians of ALL AGES playing TOGETHER - PRETTY COOL!

WARNING: Don't come here for the steak, come here for the LIVE MUSIC!  The grub is Americanized Italian food - hearty and filling, taste good (not great) and very reasonably priced.  Drinks are very strong and cheap and in my opinion that makes up for the average food.  I think if you know what to expect it'll make the experience here a lot better.

The decor is very old (50's-60's style) and I think the owner did his best to keep it as original as how it looked when they first opened in 1954!  I love the big red booths and the old school grand piano.  The clientele is mostly senior citizens so single, young folks, don't try to come here to pick up (unless that's your thing and I'm NOT judging)!  The service is genuinely friendly, helpful, and FAST.

They have their own lot so parking is convenient and FREE!

Will definitely go back for a cozy and romantic evening with JAZZ MUSIC.

What can I say about this place? Good, Cozy, Intimate. We came here for dinner, no coupons, just by word of Yelp. They have a very cool looking bar, may have to check this one out the next time? You walk in and it's like stepping into a time machine. Red booths, white linens. Busy place, staff very attentive. We were seated fast; Did I mention they had a piano player that sounded like Tony Bennet? We ordered the Breaded Mozzarella Strips for an appetizer, she went with the ribeye, I went with the NY Strip. The only downfall for me was there were no mashed potatoes, so we both went with the baked potato. Steaks came out nice and juicy. SO although it says 3 stars it's more like 3 and a half, or maybe I'm just trying to keep this place to myself?

This is my kind of place! Old School Italian place that has been in business since 1954, with a great, retro atmosphere and tons of senior citizens as patrons! But even more exciting was the jazz trio in the dining room, that was belting out standards! Why don't more restaurants have this kind of live music?!? Admittedly, the trio was pretty loud and my husband couldn't hear a damn thing I said to him all night, but who cares?!? We came for the music and food!

The food was ok, not delicious. But at least they have tons of clearly labeled vegetarian options, and a couple of vegan-friendly pasta dishes as well. We shared an enormous salad and each had a pasta dish and a glass of Chianti. With tip, our bill came to $60. Service was perfectly fine.

We stopped by the bar after dinner for a drink. And the reviews here aren't kidding.... they really do make a STIFF drink! My husband's Tom Collins was so stiff that he could barely drink it.... and he also complained that it was too bitter.... so, he wasn't impressed with his cocktail, but I enjoyed my Manhattan very much! And the strong drinks are cheap, at $7 each.

I will definitely return for the drinks and the music!

I thought the food was one stars while my dining companions gave it two or three. The red leather booths and wall art weren't as bad as I thought they were going to be, they were sort of charming.  We had a piano performer, playing and singing through dinner, which we enjoyed.

The service we found to be pretty good, even above average.  It wasn't super classy but prompt and our water glasses were refilled quickly.

I would not return because I thought the food was pretty bad.

When I'm in the mood for Italian at work, I usually come here.  The only problem is, service is slow.  So, make sure you go early or have some time to spend for lunch.

The food is great and they have daily specials.  You can get a filet mignon lunch w/ for $15.  That's a pretty good deal.  They have some light options such as fish and chicken if you don't want to have pastas.  My friend loves the egg plant Parmesan sandwich.  The portions are decent size and all specials comes w/ either soup or salad.  You also get fresh garlic bread before your meals.

Although the wait staff is slow, the food is definitely worth the time.

I had a really lovely time here.

Plush red booths, white linen tablecloths, low lighting...very old-school.  One might think that members of the Rat Pack would drop in for a cocktail.  Since those boys have all left us, I guess seeing them there would be unlikely.  Still, they'd be right at home.

The Husband and I certainly felt right at home.  We went there for our anniversary, and we were well taken care of.  Our waiter, Oscar, made sure of that.  Although the bar was hoppin' he made sure we got our cocktails quickly...yummy and strong Long Island Ice Teas.  After that came some very enjoyable garlic bread.

Our order included mozzarella stick appetizers which were quite good, as was the Cesar salad.  As for entrees, The Husband ordered the spinach and goat cheese lasagna which he like very much.

I went for the linguine with red clam sauce.  I checked before ordering, and the clams were fresh. I've ordered this from other restaurants often, but this may be the first time in which I felt I got more clams than linguine.  It was delicious.

The only hiccup in the evening would be the piano stylings, or lack thereof, of Ernie Draffen.  First off, he was loud...a situation I blame on the sound system, not him.  But, truth be told, I wasn't much enamored of his piano playing or, in particular, his singing.    I kept thinking that if he would just take it down a third, he might be able to reach those high notes.

However, Ernie did play a lovely and subtle version of The Anniversary Waltz for The Husband and me.  After that, all was forgiven.

    We'd return.  Recommended.

I really like this place. Simple. Clean. Good food. I have ate here a few times. There is live piano music. Last time I had the Spinach Lasagna which was wonderful. It served rolled instead of baked in layers. The sauce was excellent.

They get busy so plan ahead. go early or make reservations.

They staff is good, maybe a little too reserved. They should connect more with the customer. But they are efficient.

The decor is old-school Italian which I really like. It is rather small or intimate depending on how you look at it. The piano is a nice touch and not over-powering.

The bar always seems busy with regulars.

Great place if you are in the neighborhood.

After reading some yelp reviews, my boyfriend and I decided to eat here for dinner and I'm super glad we did. The food was incredibly fresh and tasty. The restaurant had a very old school, romantic vibe (dimly lit, ornate lamps on each table, red leather booths, live piano). Both the hostess and our waitress were very friendly.

I'd recommend the three cheese ravioli. Boyfriend ordered this and it was very good. It tasted like someone actually made them by hand in the kitchen, as opposed to pulling them out of the freezer and plopping them into boiling water (a la Olive Garden). I had a NY steak that was cooked to perfection but lacking flavor.

Overall, I would definitely go back. I've already recommended this place to some friends who live in the area and have never gone.

What can I say but on any given night, I can stroll right in and be the youngest person in the room. And it wouldn't be close, I'm talking decades younger.

This place is a time warp, you are thrown back to an era where the original Rat Pack advertised what was essential to be "cool."  Well those days are long gone for some patrons but you have to commend their honorable effort of "I was cool, I'll always be cool."

I used to drive this place all the time and heard stories about this place. One day, I was with a friend at the Colorado Wine Co. enjoying a wine tasting when a touchy hanky panky couple arrived and started to spread the summer of 69 in the back bar of the wins store. Nothing graphic but they were rekindling their puppy love stage of the relationship. They gave us instruction in that we should just familiarize ourselves with the bar and bartender only. Everything else will fall in place or someone will fall on their face(drinks are served STIFF here).

I can't comment at all of the meal and only the dranks!

A great red-boothed Italian American joint whose drinks are most noted for pushing you one step closer to cirrhosis of the liver.  Do not expect Cut or even Taylor's and you will not be disappointed.

Four Stars to the owners for not updating anything here since I visited my older brother when he was an Oxy student in the early 80's!

Prices have been raised recently, so it is not the "bargain" it once was.   That being said, you can enjoy a genuine 1960's meal in a dark Rat Pack like environment- not worthy of Frank Sinatra, but certainly worthy of a Joey Bishop.

The live music can intrude on your conversation and moves, so if you are planning anything, may I suggest sitting in the back room.

Cool low key place I tried for the first time a few months ago.  Stumbled across it while looking for another place that was already closed.  Walk in and it looks and smells like you stepped back in time, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

It was very loud when the band played, so we asked to sit somewhere that was a little more quiet and they had a cool little room in the back with some tables.  That was nice, but you definitely felt detached from the place, which again, could be good or bad, depending on your mood or who your with. ;)

We got the calamari as an appetizer and it was really good as I recall.  Not too greasy like some places, and you got quite a bunch.  We got a large pizza as our main course.  Wasn't the greatest pizza ever, a few notches above a frozen take home pizza, but it wasn't horrible and being as hungry as we were, we took it.

The waitress was a doll, elderly lady whose name I can't recall.  Would definitely go there again since I am moving to that area, and check out the night life, as there was a younger crowd at the bar by the time we left, and I'd like to try more of the food.

I'm a Colombos fan for sure, the Italian food is very good, huge portions, the drinks are also very good, they have open bar and live jazz music which is great, a dark ambiance completes the picture.

On Mondays they do open mic and you can sing with real musicians, piano, base, drums and even metals, if you are a singer, you will have a blast.

I went there to  have dinner and see Elizabeth McFarland she was great, she sang two sets of 4 or 5 songs each and we had dinner with her beautiful voice.

I even got to sing a song as a guest artist, so I really had a blast.

Call for reservations, unfortunately the place is not very big, so make sure you will have a table.

This is less of a review and more of a rant.

I've been here a couple times and really liked the place.  I recommend it to friends as a dark sexy kitschy first date grab a drink spot.

On my last visit I ordered a Knob Creek with lemon and ice. The Bartender charges me $7.68.  I look at the receipt later to find that my whiskey was $6, perfectly reasonable.  The ICE was a dollar!  The TAX was the change.

What?  I'm so confused.  Since when does a bar charge a $1 for ICE!  Is it because I didn't order my drink on the rocks?  Was I being taxed for being uncool?  And TAX!  I'm sorry, is it just that I've never in 10 years noticed that there is tax charged on a drink?  Its been my experience you slide up to a bar place an order hand over some bills leave a tip done.

I was so put off by this experience I doubt I'll come back.  And if I do you can bet I'll have a warm drink.

I came here for dinner with some friends of mine that live in Pasadena / Eagle Rock. I have always wanted to come here because the place looks so cute from the outside and I have only heard good things about it. I love the rich wood and the lounge sofa like seats. It seriously is like walking back into time here. So  I ordered the chicken cacciatore and a glass of merlot... (several).... The food was good I just wish that I had more of an appetite...... Prices are reasonable. I will for sure come hungry next time.....

The service was so good.. We never once had to ask for water..

OLD SCHOOL ALERT :: OLD SCHOOL ALERT

GRAB YOUR APPRECIATION OF THE KITSCH AND STEP RIGHT UP!!

I love a good blue haired place and this lil joint was the perfect mix of hipness and the days of old. Complete with a jazz piano and a singer so loud we could barely hear each other talk. Good times! I also have to say our waitress was adorable. So attentive and sweet and just really wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. Right down to being at the table as soon as I took the last sip of my martini to get me another one. Yay! Support that drinking habit Colombo's!

The little bar area was good for a chuckly or two as well and as my dining compadre pointed out, the beauty of this place is you could really be anywhere in the US here. I kinda liked that. Also they make their lasagna into little stand up rolls, instead of the traditional square. Quite a cool little spin on an old favorite...I am totally stealing it for my next dinner party. Pork Chop was succulent as well. Mmm, succulent, is there really a better word than that :)

If all bartenders were like Frank at Colombo's we'd all be a lot richer and drunker.  Happier too.

I haven't had a chance to visit the restaurant part yet but the bartenders are heavy handed.  It was very entertaining watching older men hit on older (but younger than them) women.  The winks from 2 of them were...well, unexpected.  But hey, at a bar, anything can happen.

If you don't enjoy delicious cheap alcoholic drinks then stay away from here.  More for me.  =)

To be honest, I've never eaten at the place, only gotten drunk at the bar, but that counts, right?

My friend and I were standing behind the sitting patrons waiting for a couple of seats to open.  The bartender, Frank (stand up guy), gets OUR attention and I order a double, and my friend orders a rum and coke.  There's not so much as an acknowledgement on his behalf, so, to make sure he heard that I ordered a double (mistake on my part), I repeat to him that I want a double of whatever it was I ordered.  As he makes my drink, he says to me, "we're good bartenders here, you never order a double here, we always make good drinks."  I was embarrassed up until the third sip of the drink when I became impervious to emotion.  I tipped well.

By this point we're still standing behind those sitting along the bar.  Two leave and Frank invites us to sit and asks me what my next drink will be.  "Sapphire tonic," I say.  He makes it, walks away, I taste it, I pay, tip well again, he returns, takes the money, comes back with a bottle of gin and tops off my drink.  Like I said, stand up guy.

We were there around 5ish in the evening and the drinks were 4 - 6 dollars.  Amazing.
