I was very pleasantly surprised by this place. My two friends and I (Indian food connoisseurs) ordered through grubhub and the delivery arrived on time as promised. We paid a total of $61.00 including tax and tip for the following: 3 main dishes, 3 orders of samosas (2 each), extra rice, naan, and paratha.) I thought it was a great deal and we all loved our meals. The chicken tikka masala had great flavored tandoori chicken in it and tasted as creamy as butter chicken...yum! I highly recommend this place if you're looking for decenly priced Indian food that is super tasty! (I had enough leftover for lunch today...portions are generous.) PS--the main dishes all included a side of basmati rice...thank you! I hate paying extra for rice at Indian restaurants! I will be ordering again!!!

Remarkably bad. Delivery took forever, the food was toppled over, and worse it was terrible. I'm not shy about spicy food but the bright pink Matar Paneer was incredibly hot, the Samosas bland with a tough exterior, the dal was barely cooked lentils in a watery soup, and worst of all the Naan was pathetic. I am stunned by how bad this is; I could have had much better Indian food from a frozen dinner.

I am beyond thrilled to have an Indian restaurant in Sauganash!!!! In my opinion, the food was even better than Hema's Kitchen! I have had both the chicken tikki masala, and the lamb vindaloo. We ordered them spicy, and they were just that.... Spicy! To the other poster who complained of the Medium Spicy food being too hot, they couldn't even put it in their mouth.....Indian food is spicy, so if you order it medium, it is gonna be quite spicy. Not fair to give a bad review over that!

Me and my husband loved the food. 5 stars for sure!!!!!!

I like this place. Would get 5 stars from me if you had a nicer dining area. But overall the delivery and/or take out option usually works for me. I love Indian food....this isn't the best, but sometimes you don't want the best. You just want to eat.

On a separate note, Sauganash needs more dining options (soap box).

2 dishes
Naan
Extra rice

$25,00

Stay away. When you ask for medium, you get so hot you can't even swallow a mouthful. When you call to ask for them to redeliver what you actually ordered, they refuse. Since we paid cash, they refused a refund and told us to go FUCK ourselves. Order food from this place at your own risk.

I can say with great honest. this is one of the best restaurant I ever seen and enjoyed
my dinner with my wife. The proportions of food are great not too much not too small . The colour of dishes are perfect not so dark and bright.. I like MATAR SAMOSA and Veg pakora the most. Over all staff working are nice to appreciated. They said this Nepali and Indian restaruant is started not so long . Its just been 8 months but performing great jobs. And I would like to recommend yelpers to come and give shot for Indian and nepali food to enjoy the real taste. Good luck

As a lover of Indian food, I was not only disappointed by my takeout order from Himshikar, but also saddened.

I had high hopes for this place, but they were quickly dashed as I bit into my greasy, heavy, nasty samosa. To me, the samosa is the most basic of Indian foods (I've made them myself), and the goal should be a light, flaky dough enveloping tasty, flavorful filling. These samosas had about a 2-to-1 ratio of thick, greasy dough to the bland, unappetizing filling. I was very sad.

Hoping it was just an aberration, I started in on the Chicken Keema Curry lunch special. I swear that as the first bite hit my taste buds I thought I was eating Hamburger Helper. How they made chicken curry taste and feel like ground beef is beyond me. The "curry" was like nothing I'd ever tasted before -- and not for the good. It was salty, and just hot-for-hot's sake instead of having any discernible flavor. I like spicy food, but I want to be able to taste what I am eating instead of having the greasy equivalent of pouring Frank's Hot Sauce over Hamburger Helper (the best way I can describe it). As a foodie, I was actually depressed by my experience and I felt like it was a lunch-hour wasted.

Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. You'll be glad you did.

1 hour and 40 minutes and two phone calls from a lost delivery driver for mediocre Indian food. Also, the menu is misleading and not well described. Both our curries came with rice, which isn't noted on the menu - so apparently you do not need to buy it separately. Also the samosas come with two...not one, as implied in the description. So if you order what looks like two samosas, you will end up with 4.

Looks like we'll drive to Uru Swati for our Indian food. I can get there and back in less time. Plus it tastes better, and is way cheaper. This was just frustrating.

I placed a delivery order on Grubhub from Himshikar. I didn't really know what to expect because I was craving butter chicken and it was the closest Indian restaurant in my area.

The butter chicken was priced at around $8.95 and it was REALLY salty. It was so salty it hurt my tongue. There were also probably 3-4 little chunks of chicken in it, the rest was super salty sauce. My boyfriend and I only finished half of what we ordered.

I also ordered Palak Paneer which was good, also priced about the same as the butter chicken. For dishes that are priced around 8 to 9$ each I was disappointed that both of our main entrees came in these little 16oz. containers.

The bill was pretty pricey for what we received, next time it's late I'll probably head to a hole in the wall indian joint in Devon. I don't think I'll be ordering from here again.

I can just order the minimum delivery worth of the garlic naan and be satisfied. It's so good. I had chicken vindaloo? It's spicy, but mixed with the rice, it's perfect.

My girlfriend and I have been cruising through the Indian food in the area, and so far Hinshikar is winning the gold. We ordered off of Grubhub and it arrived quickly and was awesome. The naan is nice and moist, the raita is very tasty, the samosas are great, and, most importantly, the chicken tikka marsala seriously blew my mind. Best dish of its kind I've ever had, by far. We'll be ordering again.

I was so excited to see that an Indian/Nepali restaurant had opened in the neighborhood. My husband and I stopped in to take some appetizers to go to a party. We chose the chicken pakora and the momo (Nepalese dumplings). The owner (?) informed me when he was ringing us up that the momo were actually $7.99 instead of the $5.99 which was displayed on the menu, but he gave it to us for the menu price, which was fine. When we opened the pakora box we were so disappointed- it was basically like microwaved chicken fingers! Pakora should be super crispy, not soggy. Also the quantity was a joke-my husband is from the U.K. and he is used to getting a huge box of crispy pakora-he felt like he had been duped. The momo were very good, but I don't think I would pay $2 more the next time, if we even go back. I may give it another try for the lunch special or something after reading others reviews on here, but that pakora was a joke.

ordered from http://grubhub.com had the naan, shrimp nariyal and the tandoori chicken. order was suppose to be delivered by 7:44 and it was exactly on time! The shrimp nariyal was spicy and that was the only taste it really had. The shrimp was also a bit overcooked. The tandoori chicken was moist and something I would definitely have again. The naan was yummy while the rice that came with it was hard. All in all I've had delivery from other indian places that did a better job than this meal.

OK, maybe I am giving it an extra star because it is in my neighborhood but we stopped in tonight and the food was great. We started off with Kachoumbar salad and Samosas which were OK. For the entrees we had the bread assortment, Gosht Pasanda and the Saag chicken which were really great. The atmosphere is pleasant and the service was a good balance of attentive and restrained. Value was excellent - for $40 and a BYOB wine the two of us were stuffed and lugging a heavy bag home for lunch tomorrow. What a find!

Finally, no need to trek to Devon for great Indian food. This delightful little byob restaurant is run by the sweetest couple. I had a nice conversation with them waiting for my take out order. The husband is a life-long cook/restauranteur and I think is just delighted to have opened up in the Sauganash area. We have tried many of the vegetarian dishes and a Nepalese chicken one for my husband and we've enjoyed everything we have tried. The naan is so yum and I am also a fan of the samosas.

So just run in or call to place your order, then scoot over to Whole Foods for libations and you are set!

Parking: on street for sure, possibly in back.
Public transit: buses Cicero 54A, Peterson 84

First time actually going out to specifically eat Indian. Normally I don't like traditional curry dishes as they're too overpowering for my taste. The food was remarkable. Unbelievably tasty as what I can best describe as multidimensional in that tastes were layered one over another. It just kept getting more interesting as you eat more. The biz is young, but the staff was super friendly and very attentive. Great food, great service, great place!

We've had lunch here and ordered carry-out dinner. The food was aromatic, consistently good, very fresh and full of flavor. The interior of the restaurant is simple and clean, and its BYOB. The staff is kind without being overbearing (i think its a family operation). Now to the delicious food: The naan is soft, the rice is fluffy, the lamb and chicken choices are myriad and yummy. Everything from tandoori to curry tasted perfect. My favorite thing? There was no grease in sight! Sometimes Indian restaurants overdo the grease, not Himshikar. My husband and I love it, and now my parents do too!

Being new to the area we have been hunting for delicious take out. Himshikar was a fantastic find! We ordered the Palak Paneer and the Shrimp Nariyal. It was plenty of food for the two of us and we ate every delicious bite. I am SO excited that we have a fantastic Indian place to order from in the neighborhood!

We just tried this for take out and it was very good. I love Indian but very few places deliver to us. We ordered Matar Aloo Samosas and Sabzi Pakora to start with - both were tasty and the accompanying sauces were good especially the cilantro one.
The Naan was fine but not spectacular.

For main courses we order 5 things to share: Chicken Tikka Masala; Chicken Korma; Chicken Choila; Baigan Bharta; and Shrimp Biryani. The Tikka Masala and Korma were amazing. I would go back just for them. The Choila (a Nepalese dish) was bad. I don't know if the chicken was overcooked or if it supposed to be like that, but it was very dry and hard. The rest of that dish was just odd to me but I've never had Napalese before - I likely won't again. The Bharta was fine - it was an eggplant mush which was as described and tasted fine. The Biriani was also fine.

Very glad I've found this Indian that delivers to us, but will skip some dishes.

My new favorite Indian place! Delicious food, great service, and really inexpensive too! The food came out really fast, the naan was better than at any Indian restaurant I've ever been to, and they even surprised us with a free dessert when the one we ordered was out of stock. Which we made up for with a huge tip.

Ordered a few dishes for carry out. We normally go to Devon for Indian and this place holds its own against our favorites up there.

We stuck with veggie dishes this time. I have an Indian friend that says that a good test for an Indian restaurant is if the food has a layer of oil/butter on top, try a new restaurant. Himshikar passed that test; not too greasy and good flavors. Our food wasn't very spicy and we ordered medium hot, so request spicy if you like it that way; you aren't in danger of burning your mouth.

I'm really hopeful they can make it work; the neighborhood could use some variety in the food department. If you live or work in the area, definitely give it a try.

I stopped here for lunch the other day, because the sign out front said Indian, Italian & Nepali food. I was intrigued to say the least. Well, after one month in business they are phasing out the Italian menu due to lack of interest.

Well, I was there for the Indian and Nepali food anyhow, so it was ok with me. I ordered a Nepali dish called Chicken Chola. It was a chicken dish seasoned with garlic and ginger and served with beaten rice and bhattmas (it is some type of nut) I imagined beaten rice to be a kind of porridge or some such. Wrong! It was raw shards of rice. Hard and tasteless. I almost felt like I was being punk'd. but I wasn't. I have since done a bit of research on it, and all the recipes I've seen call for it to be cooked or at least moistened in a sauce. I don't know what to think, but I'd never try it again.

The saag palak and butter chicken was good, but not great. The service was friendly, but you can tell the business is new. They have a ways to go.

For folks dining in, be advised, the entry and bathroom are not easily handicap accessible.

I may order delivery some time in the future, but my dining experience was not a great one and I doubt I will repeat it.

The housemate and I have been waiting for a good Indian place nearby, so when Himshikar showed up on Grubhub we decided that we had to give it a shot. We ordered matar aloo samosas which were tasty, though a bit bland. The tamarind chutney was very smoky, which isn't a flavor I'm crazy about, but it wasn't bad. The cilantro chutney had the right amount of heat and was very fresh-tasting.

I had the Himshikar's kabab which was very tasty and moist, and Glinda had the chicken tikka masala, which also had a strongly smoky flavor. It was okay, but not really what either of us had expected. Neither came with rice (which is a little disappointing for the price we paid for the entrees), so I ordered the kesar chaval which is basmati with saffron, cardamom, cloves and cinnamon. With a spice lineup like that, you'd have expected big flavor, right? But it was kind of timid for all that, and a bit disappointing. We asked for rice with the tikka masala, assuming that we'd pay a bit extra, but none was included in the order, nor was there any indication of why.

Because we both love Indian bread we ordered a naan, an onion kulcha and an order of pappadums. To be honest, the amount of bread in each order was kind of mingy for the money, but it was quite tasty.

Himshikar is a Nepali and Indian restaurant and the only thing we can figure about the smokiness of some of the food is that it's a regional difference. It's fine, not a problem, but it was surprising. Some of the food was reasonably priced, some was not so much. Everything was tasty, but nothing was outstanding. We'll be ordering from here again because we did enjoy our meals, but it isn't all we'd been hoping for.

It might also be handy to have plain basmati rice on the menu since none of the dishes come with rice

Great food, reasonable prices, wonderful service! We stopped here today for lunch based on the first review, and I'm glad we did. It's just a small storefront dining room, but with tablecloths and glassware, so nicer than it might appear from the outside. We tried both of their samosas (lamb & vegetarian) which were great. We split the lamb pasanda which was excellent, creamy and soooo rich. YUM! Very good naan, and the waiter (one of the owners) brought us some rice on the house because we forgot to order any. He was very friendly and pleasant. They just opened this week, so go on in and give them a try. Or order in, they deliver as well. We've been needing an Indian restaurant in the neighborhood, let's make it this one!

I'm always on the lookout for Indian/Nepalese outside of the Devon area, and this one hit the spot on an adventurous night. I only ordered carry out, so I can't comment on the service of the place, but for take out Indian at a reasonable price, this place is pretty stellar.

My husband ordered the Chicken Biryani, and it was really well-spiced and flavorful. The momo we ordered was HUGE. My previous experience with these Nepalese dumpling goodies was up at Himalayan in Niles, and these dwarfed them. I found them a little peppery for my taste and the size didn't allow me to pop them in my mouth. They're good small so you can enjoy the juice inside, but these still tasted pretty good.

The garlic naan and keema naan (stuffed with lamb) were delicious. They were a tad soggy, but that's probably b/c we carried out. Otherwise they were pretty awesome in taste and priced properly too!

The absolute kicker though was the Chicken Makhani, or butter chicken. DROOL! This was absolutely perfect in my opinion, and I always try the Chicken Makhani at every Indian restaurant I go to. The chicken was tender, the sauce was velvety, and the flavors were so smooth!

In total, the price and taste of the food rates this pretty high on my list of go-to Indian restaurants. They also deliver and prepare Nepalese and Italian cuisine (though I didn't try the Italian). I would rate this higher, but this was the first time I've eaten here, and have to go again to give another review.
