The menu was better than the food and the place lacked service. We tried the baby back ribs appetizer and a red pepper and caper pasta main course from their specials menu. The ribs were bland and over cooked and the pasta on the main dish tasted old and also lacked flavor. The ambiance and wine was great but waiting 20 minutes for bread and 40 minutes for the meal seemed slow to me. If the food is amazing, I am willing to wait but waiting so long to have bland food is not a good combination. We decided to skip desert and move on.
PS, The wine the server recommended was amazing and saved this from a one star review.
I had dinner here last night for the first time. The wine list is off the charts expensive. Finally settled for a $28 Chanti that was very good. The food, while pricey, tasted wonderful. I really enjoyed my mista salad and clam/shrimp linguine. My biggest problem was our waiter. My friend and I sat outside, and the waiter charged out and yelled "hey ladies, howya doin?" The guy belonged at Chucky Cheese, not a high-priced eatery. Each time he approached the table, he was loud and annoying and I jumped a mile in my chair. Absolutely no class. I waited tables in expensive restaurants for many years. Neither I or any co-workers acted like he did. This may be the beach, but if you're going to charge these exorbitant prices, you better have the wait staff to match!
Review Source:I tried Hostaria Piave for the first time last night. Â I went on their website under "events" and downloaded their 20% off coupon and made it in time for happy hour which is from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Mon-Fri.
I wanted to love this place. The ambiance is lovely and the service is friendly. Â The inside has rich wood and the outside patio somehow masks that the restaurant is on busy PCH. Â
However, the food is far too pricey and the portions are far too small for me to love this place. Â The Happy Hour has $3 appetizers, which sounds great! Until you realize that four TINY, dime size pieces of artichoke count as one serving. Â Four quarter size pieces of salami counted as a separate serving. Â Two slivers of cheese counted as a different serving. Â We ordered $15 worth of appetizers and the food barely covered any of the plate.
As for the main courses, don't expect sauces on this Italian food. They don't do traditional Bolognese and marinara sauces. They rely on olive oil and natural flavorings, which is actually a nice change from thick, heavy sauces. However, the main courses were also too small to satisfy us two hungry ladies. The flank steak came with a few slices of steak, a sliver of potato, and no veggies. Â
The good news is that they do offer gluten free pasta, so that was nice.
I probably would come back here late night to enjoy a glass of wine and maybe try a dessert. Â I don't think I would come back here hungry, though!
We arrived at the restaurant at 7:30PM and were told that there would be no tables available until after 8:00p.m. Â We looked around, and there were PLENTY of empty tables inside and outside. If we were snubbed because of the way we were dressed, this establishment should not be located NEAR THE BEACH. Â Needless to say, we shall never approach this establishment again.
Review Source:The decor and service leaves a lasting impression, but the food got mixed reviews with my group of friends.
The Experience:
Outdoor patio - check; heater (just in case) - check; parking - check; great reviews - check. Â A great start to the experience was derailed partially by the food. Â I had the Spinach Parpadelle with Rabbit Ragu. Â Tasty, but the hidden bones were a bummer. Â Other members in the group had the lamb, which received a great report. Â Calamari appetizer also got the nod. Â Service was also worthy of the restaurant and the beer selection worked out. Â
On the "maybe next time" side, the potato, onion, pancetta soup that I had for the appetizer was just ok. Â The scorpion fish riscotto sounds promising, but truly under-delivered. Â No visible fish...
Overall, my group enjoyed the atmosphere. Â We might even try this place again, but will study the menu more closely.
My Rating:
Mission missed some objectives @ 2 Stars + People & Parking @ 1 Star = 3 Stars
I am beyond impressed and thrilled I found this restaurant! We went on a Sunday not realizing that only the prix fixe menu is offered. Since I am vegan I was counting on modifying a regular menu option. The owner was amazing and was extremely flexible with me creating vegan options for each course and everything was delicious! The servers were very kind and knowledgable and we had a great evening. My boyfriend loved the prix fixe offerings. We'll definitely be back!
Review Source:Took my girlfriend here for a dinner and movie night and was very happy with the experience. Â The waiters suggestion of Antipasti, pasta, and meat course as the order was spot on for us. Â
Our Order:
Seared Scallops - perfectly seared, well caramelized, yet rare on the inside. Â Aside from having them raw (my favorite for scallops) this is the best I've had in a while.
Gnocchi - These were the lightest gnocchi I've ever had and probably my girl friends favorite dish.
Soft shell crab - Delicious, however I did feel the crust could have been crispy but well worth ordering.
Wine -
Bianco di Custoza - was the best house white I've had
One important tip I noticed - $1 oysters on Thursdays from 5-7pm!! Â
I definitely will be back here again at some point, hopefully with time to have desert.
It was about time to find some good Italian food in the 'hood, so I pulled in here for lunch on a Saturday. We had come at the end of lunch time, so the place wasn't at all busy. The host/owner was very nice and tolerated and accommodated my hungry/argumentative children. The bread was nice and fresh, the butter was perfect (which is actually really important) and the food was exactly what I needed. We had the scallop appetizer, which was easily one of the top 2 scallop experiences I've ever had.
Review Source:I was so disappointed especially with such awesome reviews! The wine is kind of pricey but the list is very extensive. The waiter forgot to put in my order and instead of admitting he forgot to do so he just 'reconfirmed' what I ordered then brought me the wrong thing. I ordered the sauteed soft shell crabs but received fried crab, maybe to get it out faster? I had already waited over 30 minutes for my food (with a restaurant filled with maybe 7 tables) and I didn't want to be rude in front of my date, but I really wish I would have said something. Regardless the view consists of a shopping center and there are so many better alternatives to a pricey date night. The food is subpar at best and if you make pasta as your entree they add an additional $5 so no matter what they are nickel and diming you.
Review Source:What a delightful place! Â I am still impressed a day later.
My friends and i met at the Hostaria Piave for Happy Hour, and it was indeed happy. We were greeted by the owner Angelo, and soon afterward our waitress appeared. Â The service was excellent - they were so attentive to little details. Â
The wine list is simple, has great choices. Â The $3 appetizers are lovely - including nice cheeses, sliced meats, cod, tasty tomatoes, artichokes, olives...all prepared and served graciously. Â The restaurant itself is attractive and immaculate with a very relaxed feel (always a big plus in my book). They offer indoor and outdoor seating.
We left truly happy and will definitely be back.
Hostaria Piave deserves to be one of the hottest spots in town. There is so much that is unique and special about it.
As a chef, it is an extremely special experience to be a guest and have someone else cook for me, and be served! As one who is very selective about restaurants, this is truly one of my very favorite places in the South Bay, in all of LA for that matter.
Being Italian, I am particularly selective about my Italian. I have enjoyed both lunch and happy hour here now, and have been perfectly delighted both times. The quality of ingredients, the unique and exquisite Venetian accent, the lovely service and warmth of Angelo and his staff, are so rare. I think the prices are more than fair, and the setting is perfectly simple and elegant.
Tonight we enjoyed just about everything on the happy hour menu, which is comprised of delicate small plates of fish, meat, cheeses, and veges, all for $3 each!! Everything was so delicious, I was ready to order another round of each item again. Â
Personally it pains me to see others complain about the QUANTITY of the happy hour dishes, when (newsflash!) QUALITY is the point. I might kindly advised that tacky sports bars have big fat $3 happy hour food. This is authentic Italian (as in, exactly as is done in Italy). Different universe.
I believe that more people who appreciate the finer things in life, deserve to discover and trust that this restaurant is like a precious gem! I intend to spend a lot more time here in the future, and will continue to sing its praises. Â
Grazie mille, Angelo, a presto!!
Hostaria Piave is a newer restaurant in the South Bay food scene. Â Located on the west side of Pacific Coast Highway, just north of Torrance Blvd., it is easy to blow past this restaurant. Â However, its low key exterior masks a gorgeous patio with approximately 15 tables and a large interior dining room/bar (with more than 20 tables and more than 10 seats at the bar). Â The decor is modern bistro - lots of dark wood and natural finishes with clean lines without amy fluff. Â I imagine that it can be quite loud in here when it was crowded, but there were literally three tables of patrons for lunch - two on the patio and our lone table inside.
Italian is not my "go-to" restaurant selection, but I decided to try Hostaria Piave after reading all of the reviews on Facebook. Â It is a beautiful restaurant, and the service is outstanding. Â However, the food left a bit to be desired.
I ordered the primi size of the Spinach Parpadelle with Rabbit Ragu ($12). Â It was a very generous serving of fresh spinach noodles that were about 1" wide. Â Unfortunately, the pasta was a bit overcooked, so it was on the mushy side. Â (Yes, it is possible to have chewy, rather than mushy, fresh pasta - just ask the chef at Gaetano's or Eatalian Cafe.) Â This was topped with a ragu made from rabbit and diced carrots. Â (I thought that this was hilarious - rabbit ragu with diced carrots - rabbits with the food that they eat.) Â The ragu was pretty good - the meat was not at all gamey and was very moist, and the sweetness of the carrots cut through the richness of the meat. Â Unfortunately, the ragu was WAY oversalted and I picked THREE rabbit bones out of the ragu. Â Yucky... Â I also had the braised escarole with sardines and garlic ($4 for this contorni). Â The sides are perfect for one person, and the escarole was pretty good, albeit over salted (here, I was more understanding of sald considering the anchovies). Â My companion had the roasted cod with lentils and pancetta. Â It was a TINY piece of fish, but he said it was tasty.
If you are looking for ambience and service, this place has it in spades. Â The restaurant is gorgeous and the service is five stars. Â The food is...disappointing and expensive. Â Meh. Â I've experienced better, and I shan't be back.
Awful.. Negative stars should be allowed. Walked in at noon to make dinner reservation for 7. Arrived at 7. "We don't have your name" btw- several open tables. Terrible service. Waited 15 min to order drinks. They were bad. Our food took waaaaay too long. It was no bueno. I am appalled. It was almost nasty. Horrible unfriendly waiter. My friend mentioned to the waitress she did not want a box because her food was not what she hoped for. Then, the manager came over to remind us these were "authentic dishes" ok.. But.. Still not good.. We all have been to Italy and this tastes so bad.. I am on my way home now calling Pizza Hut.
I have never written a yelp review until today. Â Stay away
One of the better Italian places in the South Bay, though there is not alot of competition. Came here on their Sunday Supper night, which is a multi-course prix fix meal at $35. It's actually a good price for an appetizer, primi and secondi and dessert for the quality. Â And it's perfectly portioned all together. As the waitress says, "It is a lovely meal".
The ambience is california casual with a large enough front patio, which is nice on a warm night. The inside looks sort of upscale casual with Venetian masks lining the walls and a wine bar in the back.
The food was a little inconsistent, but overall pretty good. The bread comes out warm with specially blended herb butters. The pasta is housemade and was very good. Our meal came with a braised pork belly that was "melt in your mouth" good. The dessert was an interesting espresso tinged panna cotta. The wine list wasn't anything to tell mom about and a little pricey.
The only miss was the fish. My mother ordered the fish option and the cod came out smelly and reeking of an ammonia taste - not good. I had asked to have the cooks check on the fish.
Service was excellent by the owner and by the waitstaff. Very nice, patient, and quite attentive. I never had so many plates and silverware swapped out so many times in a single night.
It wasn't s statement dinner but I can see doing a nice dinner out here. I do think this is better than most Italian places in the South Bay and well worth trying.
Perhaps we caught this restaurant on an off night, I'm not entirely sure. I had high hopes for this place. I kept driving past it, thinking I should try it. I mean they have a Fiat parked outside the restaurant, it has to be authentic.
Let's start with the ambiance, luxurious atmosphere, a large, very expensive looking granite table in the middle of the restaurant, very nice wood tables, an extensive collection of wine and beautifully decorated. All this did not make up for the fact that a roasted tomato, sliced in half was $3!!! Along side that tomato on a small plate, was 2 shrimp with 2 potato slices for $3, a slice of prosciutto for $3, a few tablespoons of tasty polenta with mushrooms for $3 and a very small bowl of pasta with oxtail in no sauce for $15. I didn't care for that flavor, but my boyfriend enjoyed it, still not worth the price. Our server offered the appetizer size for $10, which I could imagine would of been enough pasta to wrap around your fork once.
Also, they had a huge menu, with only one page being food entrees and the remaining what looked like 50 pages being wine. That should of been the red flag right there. I'm all for wine but you are a restaurant too, you should be serving a wide selection of authentic Italian food as well.
I honestly despise restaurants that charged ridiculously high prices for teeny tiny food. It is not worth your money to dine here.
Overall, I will not be returning to this overpriced establishment. I was still hungry after this sad happy hour outing but didn't want to $10 for an olive.
i really wanted to like this place but just could not. Â Being a local foodie who has worked in the food business my whole career and have been fortunate enough to try many different types of cuisine's, i was hoping for a cool new place to enjoy in the South Bay.
I have driven past this place many times and finally decided to give it a try on a Friday night. meeting some friends later i stopped in by myself around 8:00 PM. and was quickly seated which was nice for a Friday. The wine list was impressive but offered only one Cab Sauvignon by the glass which i ordered and was told they were out. If you offer only one wine by the glass, open another bottle!!! Â I ordered the Gnocchi Sugo d' Anatra as first course and it was very filling but bland. Good thing because I ordered the fish special as the main course which was supposed to be Sea Bass but was told they were "Out". after ordering another selection the waitress came back ten minutes later and told me that they had found another Sea Bass fish special. The fish was just OK. and the portion had to be less then 3 oz. I'm thinking "leftovers" unless they ran out and caught it. good thing the Gnocchi was so filling or i would have left hungry if not for the bread which was the best part of the meal. i felt like the staff was "Winging It" from the word go.
Authentic Italian kitchen. Â The food and service are far above any other restaurant in the South Bay.
Fresh pasta, fish, and meat dishes. Â You can't go wrong with any menu items. Nice selection of starters and desserts. Â Impressive wine selection by the bottle or glass.
Staff are knowledgeable, friendly, kind, helpful, and over the top accommodating.
Tagliatelle with Oxtail Ragout excellent and very well done
Seafood pasta with Saffron Sauce excellent. Quality pasta dish
Calamari special starter the best I've had outside of Italy
I like the portion sizes and the quality of what I'm being offered. Â Everything is cooked fresh to order.
Came here for the first time with some friends. Â Food was really good. Â Here is what I tried:
Pasta Fagoli soup - different, made with a fetticini, less pasta, more beans, but good
Seared Scallop appetizer - you get 3 scallops, taste was very good
Tagliatelle with Oxtail Ragout - pasta was delicious, but ragout was alitte dry
Ravioli - very dry, would not order again
Almond cake - AMAZING, like a soft biscotti
Overall, food was good and enjoyable. Â The only thing holding me back was the service. Â While it was very friendly and upbeat, dinner took a full 3 hours for our party of 6 people. Â About an hour over my tolerance.
There is parking on the north side of the building. Â About 10 spots. Â Plus street parking on PCH.
We went last week based on the reviews on Yelp. First off, my guest and I have VERY high standards for Italian food. So...anything that is less than spectacular starts losing stars. We loved the décor, the service, and the prices...5 stars. Also 5 stars wad the bread and herbed butter...truly top-notch. The wine list is amazing...probably too amazing, as it as hard to get through. That said, the list of wines that you can order in a half-liter or less (for those of us who don't want a DUI on PCH), is seriously lacking. The cab was nice at first, drier than I'm used to but nice with light apps. But the longer it decanted, the worse it got. It might be worth it bringing your own and paying corkage.
The seared scallops and broth appetizer was divine. However, a few of the cannelini beans accompanying the dish were way short of al dente. Not appetizing, but liveable. My main course, the entrée size of the tagliatelle with ragout, was delicious. My only concern was that it needed way more moisture, beef broth or something, to keep the bottom half of the bowl as good as the top. The dish suffered from lack of sumptuousness, which you expect with a ragout.
Then dessert. Oh..I had high hopes. They had a seasonal plate of poached quince quarters with sea salt caramel ice cream. I'm a sucker for sweets made with in-season fruits! But whomever manned the pastry station that night doesn't know anything about quince. You HAVE to cut out the hard, pithy core surrounding the pit. And the ice cream was nothing special. I let the server know, and she was very apologetic and gracious, but I declined another offering.
Bottom line: nice try, but too many misses.
There have been at least 3 failed restaurants in this location in the past couple years. I've driven past Hostaria Piave many times and have always wondered....
A casual Thursday night rolls around and I ask my husband what he wants for dinner. Italian? Ok, where? How about that place on PCH? OK!
I made a reservation online and promptly made my way over. To my surprise, they were very busy! Good thing I made the reservation. Ambiance is nice, dimly lit, good energy and happy diners.
Our server didn't seem very knowledgeable about the specials but did a good job serving us. A gentleman was walking around greeting diners, I believe him to be the owner. Call me crazy but I was happy that he spoke Italian, I sort of think that means something when it comes to the authenticity of the food. It's also nice to see the owner interacting with guests, it makes us feel special!
We started with the scallops and mista salad. For dinner we shared butter/sage ravioli and a beef tenderloin dish (I can't remember the name of it). The beef was forgettable, not much flavor and just not what we expected. The ravioli was divine, I'm still thinking about it days later. I believe it had a veal filling. All I know is that I ate every last bite!
Most restaurants don't wow me enough but Hostaria Piave does. It's nice that the South Bay is getting more quality eats. Enjoy!
Such an unassuming and modest-looking Italian restaurant. If you're coming down PCH from Torrance Blvd, it'll be on your left side. Don't blink or you'll miss it. The restaurant is located on busy PCH, just make a left or u-turn when you can and park on the street. The first thing I noticed was how open yet cozy the establishment was- such a nice ambiance- it was intimate and comfortable to eat, talk, and drink. I'd definitely recommend ordering a glass or three of their Cab Sauv or any of their vast collection of wines to pair with your meal.
The food is on a whole other level. Delicate flavors and perfect portions- the braised oxtail ribbon pasta (Tagliatelle con Coda di Manzo) and seared steak medallion (Straccetti di Manzo con Funghi di Bosco) were amazing. I typically don't like braised oxtail, I've had it at various other restaurants and it usually tastes too salty with the flavor of cheap wine overpowering the meat- but the oxtail at Hostaria Piave was perfect ( I am a self-proclaimed oxtail snob). The mushroom soup (Funghi e Castagne) was delicious. I absolutely love the mushroom soup from Marmalade Cafe, but the soup here is better- lighter and less salty. The panna cotta and chocolate parfait (Il Semifreddo al Cioccolato) were an excellent way to end the meal.
The service is nearly impeccable and the food is amazing. This restaurant will be the death of my wallet and my waistline.
The chef focuses on the basic ingredients. Â The recipes are minimal and no one part overpowers the other, rather, it all comes together perfectly.
The butternut squash ravioli is exceptional. The noodles are very clean, thin to near transparency, and cooked to the exact second.  The filling is creamy but very light, almost to a froth; it melts on the tongue.  The sweetness comes out up front but quickly dissipates  over the palate until the buttery noodle washes gently through to a delightful finish.
As a first course, 6 ravioli are served. It was quite satisfying.
La Mela Cotogna was pretty good. Â The salted caramel gelato is what made the dish and the cinnamon/clove dusting intrigued me, but proved to be just alright.
The panna cotta that my friend had, however, was outstanding. Â It blew my recipe out of the water and is now a new benchmark to strive for.
This is the best I have had in Los Angeles to date.
My bestie raves about this place so naturally I had to give it a try.
I have to say from the wine selection to the freshly made pasta and breaded scallops I was impressed. The owner made our experience by suggesting the wine flight which allowed us to try different wines we might normally not have chosen. Each wine was better than the last!
They served bread at the table with a yummy herb butter, and we decided to start with the baked scallops, lightly breaded and very moist, followed by the Sedano e Gorgonzola, simply said, Celery & Gorgonzola soup, served warm. We were all hmming, and ummming. I finished my selection with the roasted whole chicken, nice and buttery with a touch of garlic & lemon, with a slightly crunchy skin... Large enough for me to bring home left overs :-)
We passed on the dessert, and opted for more wine. We were then served some cookies, I believe they were an amaretto, powdered ever so lightly...
The restaurant itself is a nice quiet setting with an open patio, and as I mentioned a very nice wine selection. Â We will be back.
Chose this place for my birthday dinner, having driven by it many times on my way to work. Â Fantastic meal! Â I would've been happy with just a glass of wine & the antipasto di campagna... I asked our server to suggest a wine pairing (wish I could remember what it was). Â The wine suggested went fabulously with the antipasto as well as my entree. Â We also had the Il Sedano e Gorgonzola (creamy celery) soup. Â Once the cheese melted into the soup, it was simply scrumptious, especially w/ a bit of house-made bread to dunk in it. Â
For entrees, we had a green pea ravioli and a lobster risotto. Â The portion are not huge, but practically perfect in size. Â I notice the ravioli & risotto choices on their menu has changed, and I hope they bring back the green pea ravioli in the spring. Â It was nothing like what I was expecting (expecting creamy, buttery goodness), but I was pleasantly surprised by what I got... a triumph of sweet, green peas in every bite of perfectly cooked pasta pillows. Â The risotto was big of flavor and chunks of lobster meat, and my date scraped his plate clean.
For dessert, we shared a wine-poached pear that was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. Â The only drawbacks were the tiny parking lot w/ hard-to-find street entrance, and the patio faces the busy PCH. Â Overall, an excellent dining experience. Â Really fine food is hard to find in the South Bay, and I'm glad we found Hostaria Piave. Â We will definitely be back. Â It appears that the menu changes seasonally, which is just one more reason to return.
Came back last week on a Thursday evening at 8 pm. Â Angelo greeted me after meeting for the first time 2 months ago. Â Started with oysters and antipasti di campagna followed by Italian spaghetti al dente with wild boar ragu. Â
Awesome doesn't quite encompass the experience here. Â I had brought a '99 Poggio Antico Brunello for this evening and it was fabulous. Â I left it breathing while we had a half bottle of an '04 Faiveley Montagny white Burgundy from Angelo's cellar. Â
Plus you can eat on the front patio weather permitting. I just love it here! Â You must come.
As an east-coast Italian and a die-hard foodie, I always find it difficult to find truly delicious Italian food in the South Bay. I'm consistently disappointed by overcooked pasta, excessively salty meat dishes and any other tragic downfall of poor Italian food. This place, however, really blew me away! All the pasta is CLEARLY homemade and the gnocchi (here the dish is "gnocchetti") MELTS in your mouth-just the way it should be!
The main courses were also outstanding. I had the pancetta-wrapped pork and it was juicy and tender. Although our appetizer, the seared veal, was a little bit bland, it certainly wasn't awful - I just wouldn't recommend it. The dessert (we had the peach!) was delicious and not too sweet. Overall the food was outstanding and some of the best I've had since moving to the west coast.
DISCLAIMER: The service at this restaurant needs improvement! It didn't really affect my enjoyment but it certainly was a little bit slow and spotty. However, I gave this restaurant 5-stars because the food was extremely good and the restaurant took TWO items off of the bill to apologize for their poor service. I appreciated it!
BEST AUTHENTIC ITALIAN IN THE SOUTH BAY. PRETTY REASONABLY PRICED. RECOMMEND 100%
After driving by dozens of times, and hearing good things, we finally made it in last night. Loved it!! Food, wine and service were all excellent. Great addition to the neighborhood!
We shared the antipasto laguna, tongue, and shared cannelloni, sardine and pappardelle pastas, paired with a lovely Soave.
Will be back soon.
A foodie delight. Like Sosta Enoteca in Hermosa Beach but better. House grown herbs. House made butter. House baked bread. House cured salmon. From scratch pastas. From scratch sauces. AMAZING wine selection. Hard to find Italian beers available. Daily changing happy hour specials. Run by a gentleman gourmand. Staffed by competent pros. Not a spaghetti and meatballs kind of place. A rare Venetian restaurant in the South Bay.
Worth a visit when you crave the cuisine of Venice or want a thoughtful, elegant, and delicious meal. It is not cheap, but considering the quality ingredients, top service, and  masterful chefs, you cannot get this level of cuisine for much less. Say hello to Angelo and tell him you heard about his place on Yelp. Hostaria Piave is on its way to the upper echelons of LA's Italian restaurants.
I'm glad I found this place.
I like the outside patio but just wish that it wasn't right off a busy street. Also, there's no turning into the parking lot if you're coming from Torrance. You have to drive down a block and then make a u turn. The illegal turning into their lot is an inconvenience. While my boyfriend and I were here, we heard honking for this problem.
The perks and wonders of this place is that it's small so you feel homey. The servers are all nice and the atmosphere seems clean. The greatest thing about this place is that your palette is so widely touched here. The different aromas, herbs and textures are so greatly appreciated. To start, we had the carpaccio then for entrees I had a clam, mussels, scallop dish with pasta and my boyfriend had the pork tenderloin. We both finished everything and left completely satisfied.
The down falls of this visit was that our server wasn't very attentive. She told us at the end of the visit that one server called out or didn't show. To be honest, I didn't feel that it was excuse enough for her lack of service. She didn't tell us our specials, she didn't deliver our food, our wine and didn't even notice that we wanted the check. I'm bummed with the service but I will give credit to the staff that picked up and helped.
The menu is a bit complicated to understand. The first page is all dinner and then 10 pages follow withe wine. I love that there is such an enthusiastic wine lover here but reading the menu was difficult. Being that one, it was in literally a different language, I was lost. Second, I'd like for more choices and variety. If not either, then at least more description of what I am going to eat.
At the end of everything, we left pleased. The portion was right, wine was great and the atmosphere and feel was pleasant. I'm coming back!
We REALLY wanted to like this place. Â My wife and I have driven by this restaurant many times and were impressed by the outdoor design. Â So...we finally decided to give it a try. Â I want to start by saying the staff are very pleasant and friendly.
WIth that,Yelper's beware! Â I must say that the food was very disappointing. Â I hardly complain when I receive poor quality food. Â This time was different. Â We ordered a total of five items. Â Each item ranged from $10-$15. Â As each item came from the kitchen, my wife and I debated on if it would be worse than the previous dish. Â Our worst fears came true...they were.
Item #1 was labeled as some sort of meat with fancy tuna in mayonnaise with cappers on top. Â In reality it was a tuna fish spread from a sandwich on top of lunch meat with cappers drizzled on top. Â It most likely cost $2 dollars to make and tasted like it had been stored in the fridge for days.
Item #2 was described as scallop with a light crust topping of some sort. Â What we got was a scallop shell with two, previously frozen, soggy scallops with canned bread crumbs from your local Albertson's. Â The plate was garnished with a cheesy piece of lettuce from their kitchen's salad section with a wedge of lemon. Â Sorry Nanette P...I must not have received the same scallops that you describe as "cooked to perfection". Â Mine tasted more like they were cooked in my nieces Easy Bake Oven.
Item #3 was listed as a delectable salad. Â Reality...more like a salad from a bag at the local Ralphs. Â Piss-poor presentation with no flavor at all.
Item #4 was beef tenderloin with potatoes.  Tasted like microwave beef and 5-minute stove top potatoes au gratin  So disappointing.
Item #5 was the gnocchi with crab. Â What we got was more like dehydrated pasta with a few specks of canned, imitation crab. Â
The best thing we had from this dinner was the bread and the glass of white wine. Â I must say however that when we expressed our disappointment with the meal, the server whom I perceived to be the owner was very apologetic and took care of the bill. Â He seemed very concerned with our disappointment which was nice to see. Â I just wish that one of the five items we ordered would have been tasty...not the case. Â My wife and I ended up going down the street to Sushi Dukes for some great tasting sushi and drinks to make up for the bad experience.
