Started with an x-rated martini. Tasty.
Got an order of the chipotle chicken nachos. Okay...nothing too exciting.
He got a bowl of tortilla soup. Good flavor, but absolutely no spice.
He also got the chicken street tacos. Basically, it's like fajitas with more fixings and smaller tortillas. He liked them...lots of onions and good guacamole.
I got the French dip with cheddar added. It was good...I mean, it wasn't the most exciting thing, but the bread was good and the flavor was good.
We'd probably try all new dishes next time. We weren't unhappy, but there's room for something better.
Came here for dinner a couple of times.
This is a cute place, one of the better dining spot in the Firewheel area. They close early during the weekdays though, so beware! Their drink menu is extensive, with many house specials. On Thursday, they have a $2 lobster tale add on deal to steak dishes. The Smore dessert is heavenly, but i also enjoyed their appetizer dishes. You can see into the kitchen, which is cool.
Overall, a pretty cool place!
I've been to one in Maryland back in 2005-2006 once, and now I know why I never wanted to go back. My friend and I were craving some burgers, and we decided to check this place out. He's only been Houlihan's in Garland once and so have I in Maryland. Now we both know why we went to this restaurant only once. I would NEVER go there again. He ordered a steak. He had to ask for A1. Anyone should know that if someone's asking for steak sauce, that means the steak is horrible. I had a burger, the only burger they had on a menu. It was alright, I could've cooked better. Beer was horrible as well. I would've gotten a second if it weren't so flat. Chips that came with the steak was so stale and oily. Disgusting and I will never ever go back there again.
Review Source:I recently went to this Houlihan's and I can't believe I am going to be the first to mention anything about this, but it's dark. I don't mean "mood lighting" dark, I mean, can't read your menu, can't really see your dining companion dark. I know there is a bar there, but is it a pick up joint? I thought Houlihan's was a restaurant? We asked the waitress if they could turn the lights up a little and the manager said, There are two settings - Off and this dim setting. I won't be going back. I wasn't big on theme restaurants anyway. The food was good. The wait staff was good. The atmosphere...meh. I would rather go to Twisted Root in downtown Dallas....just saying. Oh and last thing... When visiting the men's restroom....There's nothing like wading in a puddle of urine while using the urinal. I have complained about this in the past, it must have fallen upon deaf ears.
Review Source:We've been to Houlihan's a few times now and really enjoy it.
The waiters are not always the fastest, but the food makes up for it.
I especially like the tortilla soup as an appetizer. So delicious.
The steaks are good  and - most of the time - cooked exactly to order. And if you go on Thursdays you get a free side of lobster tail or shrimps. Yum.
They have a nice variety of beers at fair prices as well so it's a good place for a night out with friends.
I came here for lunch and sat at the bar. I had the huge panko breaded shrimp with corn & mashed potatoes. First of all, Houlihan's must drop the "huge" from the title as the shrimp were just regular size. Although I was disappointed on the misrepresentation of size, the shrimp were pretty good. The corn & mashed potatoes were also good. The corn (not on the menu) had a bunch of flavors going on and a bit of kick to them. I had to get a to go box for the sides as the portions were huge. I definitely will be going back!
Review Source:Houlihan's is def one of my fav late night go to places in Garland. Reverse Happy Hour starts at 9:30 and the staff is always friendly! They have HH long islands, tall beers, and $6 small plates which aren't so small.
I usually order the thai wings or chicken nachos. Great portions to share. Their truckstop fries, mac and cheese, or a side of mashed potatoes is also really good to order if you just want something small to snack on with your drinks.
Come early on Friday nights if you plan to come with a large group. It gets crowded fast.
Houlihan's has been around for too damn long. How could I manage to avoid this place like an idiot?!!
Chicken tortilla soup is what did me in. I will return for the soup.
Tip: if you order a pitcher of a mixed drink and the menu says it will be $9 just know that if you upgrade the alcohol it will double.
Went to meet a coworker for a drink about 7:30. Got there first- sat at the bar - bartender served me a nicely poured drink. My friend came and ordered a beer. He couldn't quite decide what he wanted and asked questions. The bartender was patient and I thought this place had much better service than the Addison location. Decided to have a small plate and ordered the seared scallops. There were delicious.
Overall a nice visit.
Happy hour. Enough said. They have AMAZING happy hour prices for their drinks. Long Island Iced Teas are the most bang for your buck. Loads of liquor in that so you only need one or two and you're having the time of your life.
Happy hour menu for eats, it's a good price, but not the absolute best. But they have loads of options. You can choose from small plates to larger ones to pair with your drink. With a large patio in the back, there is usually always a place to sit, granted it's not a major sports day. I am a total fan of the house salad with ranch. Their ranch is divine. Trust me on that.
Just drink responsibly and have a DD! Those LIITs will creep up on you because they're so delicious!
You lost a star, Houlihan's! Kinda lucky it's only one.
I have been to this location quite a few times in the past 3 years. Â Last night there was a definite difference. Â My food was pretty good as usual, with the exception of the asparagus, there could have been a few more spears, could have been hotter and could have been cooked a little longer and the ends trimmed a little better. Â But my husband and daughter were less than pleased with their food and drink. Â Husband had the pot roast and he said it was too heavy and kind of greasy. Â He usually likes it quite well (keeps ordering it!). Â His margaritas, at 6 bucks a pop, were weak and on the rocks, lots and lots of rocks! Â He wanted frozen, but the machine was broken. Â Grr. Â Daughter ordered the chicken fettuccine Alfredo, (normally a $16 dish) without the chicken (brings it down to a $13 dish). Â She got a small handful of pasta. Â We mentioned this to our (very friendly and attentive) server. Â She quite honestly told us if she didn't work there, she'd never eat there. Â Hmmm, ok. Â Daughter's lemonade was also weak. Â Looked like dish water, tasted about as good as my tap water with lemon squeezed in. Â I will undoubtedly be back, but I hope in the meantime the slack is picked up.
ONLY GOOD AT HAPPY HOUR!!!! And if you come, Dre is the best!!!!!
I used to be a regular at Houlihans with my friends and husband and we still find ourselves there for the occasional happy hour if we're in the area! Food is decent especially the happy hour deals. And the drinks are GREAT however extremely overpriced outside of happy hour. Other than a few amateur servers or rude managers, the staff here really is great and knows how to take care of the ones who treat them right. It's like the Firewheel version of "Cheers".
This is one of our go-to places for date night, mostly because it's close to home. We love to sink down into one of the intimate booths and enjoy each other's company in the relaxed atmosphere. We never feel rushed. The cocktails are somewhat consistent & inexpensive. Sometimes the martinis taste a little funky - like maybe they aren't always cleaned out well between drinks. It doesn't happen often but we've sent them back more than once. A vodka martini straight up shouldn't really taste like an appletini. Our favorite thing about the food is that we can choose a few of the small plates to share, which is rather romantic. It also allows us to eat a little lighter dinner after our big Friday lunch indulgences.
Review Source:3.5 well drinks & margaritas, 2.5 pints & 3.5 20oz. Drafts
LIT gl. 3.5 & pitchers 4.5 (M-F)
$6 appetizers Mon-Fri 4-6:30pm & 9:30-2am
Great please to get a drink and watch a game. Â A lot of people come here to pre game and then go out to a club. Â I loved this place. Â You can also people watch. Â Some people are out to have a good time and others are there trying to pick up girls.
Whats up with my standard places letting me down lately? Â Im so dissapointed in my last visit at Houlihans. Â We went on Friday the 16th for happy hour. Â Unfortunately one party was taking over the entire lounge and the bar area was packed. Â So it was either happy hour outside in the 104 degree heat or sitting in the regular restaurant. Â
Now I know its always been happy hour only in the bar/lounge. Â But its really frustrating when you know that if you could find a seat 10 feet to the right you would be able to pay half price for your drinks and food! Â I just wish there was some exception. Â Or you know what...change the rule! Â Its silly...why punish people for sitting in your huge empty restaurant side? Â
I did know that when we sat down though..and the waiter did remind me when I placed the order so at least there was no surprise at bill time.  My drink (Georgia Peach Long Island) was very good (expensive but good).   We went ahead and ordered appetizers for dinner and I clearly said no guac and no sour cream on my nachos.   When I finally got them (and it did take a while) there was a double scoop of sour cream all over the top of it.  When i mentioned to the waiter his response was  "Oh..I told them not to"  and then silence.   Yes..I should have said to take them back and try again..but I was hungry.  and it took so long to get them ....so I didnt say anything.  But seriously..if my order is f'ed up then offer to fix it...come on! Â
And after that we didnt see the guy until the food was done and the plates were empty (except for the whole corner of mine was that had sour cream on it). Â Â By the time he came back i didnt even care about ordering dessert..and thats really my favorite part of going to Houlihans. Â
The service was not friendly, the food was messed up and we got to stare at a lounge full of people who were having a better time and paying 50% less than we were. Â Â As we walked out we both said the same thing...next time lets just do Cheddars. Â (where the drinks are cheap and you can order them that way anywhere in the restaurant) Â Â Boo Houlihans.
I do not frequent many establishments regularly since I'm very picky and work in the industry but the fresh and well put together product coupled with reasonable prices keep my wife and I coming back.
Sean the manager is a great guy always friendly and takes time to talk to us when he sees us.
Pitcher of long islands the way to go for booze and the lettuce wraps are killer
Houlihan's!!! Yes!!! Does that cover it?
It's a pretty trendy-feeling place. The servers are really personable and knowledgable. They know, in detail, about any item I've asked them about thus far. Not a huge array of meat-less entrees, but sufiicient. They have a very nice bar! Big, beautiful TVs showing whatever game is on.
Their veggie burger is good and acceptable! Also, the Houlihan's are pretty much all the same, so it doesn't matter which one you go to!
Mmmm... Not Chili's! I've grown oh so tired of the corny family joints that have completely identical menus and interior design so overwhelmingly commercial. Oh, and "drinks" that are all color and no umph.
Houlihan's is my favorite place to go when I'm craving something a teensy bit different or a drink with enough of a kick to put hair on my chest (well, not literally). The ambiance and design quality of the restaurant is suave and slick rather than kitschy or corny, and feels like a place for adults to eat and drink without the cringe-inducing screams of children or oh-so-annoying birthday chants. Nothing makes getting drunk classy like diminutive lighting and cool-cat furniture.
I'm a total fan of the happy hour (two per weeknight) and half price appetizers. Stuffed mushrooms, disco fries, asparagus salad, and - shiver- s'more fondue. Delish! Everything I've had on the menu has been well made and especially tasty. Service is usually social and decently-timed, but don't be surprised if that wanes on Friday and Saturday nights when the whole place gets really busy.
Downsides include price range and portion size. If you visit during happy hour and stick to the half price appetizers you can get away with a decent price and a variety or dishes to sample, but wandering onto the entrée menu means spending no less than $10 on a dish. And as portions go - I've always ordered a dish and wished (with both eyes and stomach) that there was about 30-50% more - depending on the intensity of my appetite, of course.
So yeah. Tasty but a tad pricey. In my opinion, it's worth the strong drinks and lack of squealing children.
Every time I come here the service is awesome and the food is really good! Â It's a perfect place to hang out with friends and have a drink. Â My favorite app are the Thai wings with ranch on the side. Â
Quick tip for drinks: get the pitcher of long island ice teas (so many different flavors) instead of the glass because it's cheaper and has more alcohol.
I've only had one hiccup since I've been there... The first time I took my husband, they messed up his order, well... More like didnt bring his entree at all! Â The waitress finally noticed he hadn't had been served and it turned out they were out of risotto, which was not the main part of the dish. They did offer to get him something else but at that point, he was frustrated and hungry so he didnt want to wait another 30 minutes so he opted for a side salad and got some fast food on the way home. Â
Again... That was the only time I've ever had an issue and they did handle it well by comping our bill more than 50%.
I will be back and it's probably my go to happy hour place in the firewheel area.
Oh, Houlihan's why do you vex me so? One moment you are fun, exciting and make me relish my visit and the next you make me want to stick my silverware through my skull.
First off, let me say that I love some of the new things you are looking to accomplish: martini flights and small plates encourage multiple sampling and thus spur my interest. However, when half of those offerings are minute and flavorless and your service is schizophrenic, you really make me question my sanity for dining here.
I have had wonderful meals with you and would die defending your twisted presentation of  a delicious pot roast  but then you charge me $17 for chicken fajitas that weigh less than something off of Wendy's 99-cent menu? Give me and "F"! Give me a "U"! What's that spell? A dysfunctional culinary relationship for damned sure.
Sadly, this is the kind of thing that relationship you have in high school when you are not completely confident in how things are supposed to be. You break up, reunite, and break up again ad infinitum. I don't want that from a restaurant, or from an actual relationship these days. The ball is in your court, Houlihan's! Improve or else! I don't care how enticing you can be. Work on your many flaws or I am moving on!!! Are you committed to making this work or content to take a quick buck from any sucker willing to give you a chance?
Jumbo Stuffed Shrooms..If nothing else, this is the reason to come to this place. Â I don't know exactly how to explain how these things are so good, and no, they are not illegal in any way. Â We got a couple more appetizers, which were $6 bucks while we were there for happy hour. Â All come in crazy big servings. Â Drink specials are also pretty good as well. Â The long island ice tea came in mini pitchers and they only set you back $3. Â We went on a Friday night and the bar and patio were very crowded. Â Unfortunately, like most other places you have to be at the bar to get the specials, but that's just a minor inconvenience. Â The crowd and even the bartenders were pretty fun to be around. Â The patio would have been nice if it weren't so cold that night, but they do have a fire out there to try to keep quests warm. Â It was a great experience. Â 5 Stars!
Review Source:I was skeptical at first when Hoolihan's first opened...oh boy another chain-like restaurant/bar not too different from the other places. Â Man was I wrong! Â This is a great place for drinks and appetizers after work (although get there early as the bar gets really crowded). Â The food is quite good, the drinks are strong and the staff is very professional, yet have fun at the same time.
Their $6 appetizers are quite a good deal and the Angus burger is great!
I certainly enjoy the food and atmosphere here. Â They have these great "small plates" as they call them that are just the right potions.
My favorite on the menu so far has been the Steak and Wedge salad. Simply good. Some of the plates I have to admit  are bit pricey such as the pot roast  but honestly those are great dishes to split with a friend.
They have a good selection of appetizers and honestly it is just fun to go and order a few of those and have a few good drinks and call it a night. Â I would not recommend how ever the Martinis they did not impress me but did one of my girl friends that went with me a time or two.
The happy hour specials are a WOW factor.
I really like this place! The patio area was fun really liked the fire and coals outside it gives this place a more uptown feel but without the uptown crowd the people I met there were cool and the drinks were cheap! Bought 4 long islands for 12 bucks. Will come back often the decore looks real fancy but the people were nice
Review Source:I love the atmosphere and have a blast meeting the girls here after work for happy hour.  Their huge  chilled mugs of Long Isand Teas and other concoctions are less than $4.  Beer was $2.  Appetizers and 'small plates' were also discounted.  I have had the Bruchetta, White Bean and Artichoke Hummus spread, Thai Noodle Bowl, Vietnamese Shrimp Spring Rolls w/ 3 Sauces, and they were all very tasty. Â
The pot roast is a pricey $14.00, but plenty of the succulent beef and mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy to split between two people, or take some home to eat the next day at work- your coworkers will be flocking to the break room when the savory aroma drifts around the office!
My husband loves the panko breaded shrimp, also a large portion for a hungry man. Â ( I steer away from fried foods since I have already packed on the pounds with my first love, Mexican food)
The servers are FANTASTIC as well as the atmosphere.  A lot of young adults 'hang out' on the patio and seem to have fun socializing.  I like the  muted lighting to hide all my wrinkles and sagging parts-so I stick around in the bar or dining room.  Try this out and your taste buds will thank you for it! Â

(By the way, I have my restaurant managers certification from the State of Texas, and most food poisoning began with your meal from at least 10 hours before. Â It takes awhile for those pesky bacteria/parasites to grow in your stomach and intestines- so don't always blame the place you just left when you are puking- they just had the misfortune of providing you food to puke because of the bacteria you previously digested)
A little pricier than your typical casual dining place, but they have much better atmosphere and a more creative menu. Â Service is quick, and the food consistently good. Â I believe they have real chefs working in the kitchen, which explain the food. Â Somewhere along they way the chain as a whole figured out how to make themselves standout among the sea of casual dining places. Â The world does not need another restaurant with fake antiques and old photos strewn about the walls. Â Nor does it need another menu loaded with the same ubiquitous food. Â I gotta give them points for being a little different.
Review Source:Yea so it's a chain and it's in the heart of suburbia, but i genuinely like Houlihans. I came on a Tuesday for HH and they had 1/2 off bottles of wine (not sure if this still applies) which was a deal since we split it between 2 people. We shared the quesadillas, fried mushrooms, and mini burgers off the appetizer menu everything was 1/2 off. Amazingly good? No, but above average for the HH price. This wouldn't be my first choice of places to go binge drinking but since it's close to home and nice inside I will definitely come back. I have yet to try anything off the regular menu but everything looked good and fairly priced.
Review Source:I came here for the first time last night, in need of getting out of the house and spending some time with my best friend. So she recommended that we come here for Happy Hour. Â
Upon entering the door, the cute little lady greeted us with a "Congratulations!" It was totally funny and random but we proceeded to enter anyway. We sat ourselves down at a cocktail table and was immediately greeted by a kind server who took our drinks and dessert.
We ordered the creme brulee and the smores fondue. OMG. The creme brulee was to-die-for. It was sweet and creamy and you could tell they use real vanilla bean in it. The sugary/caramel layer was just the right amount of crispy and was topped off with half a strawberry. The Smores Fondue was great also. It came out on a rectangular plate with three strawberrys, a dozen graham cracker pieces covered with some sort of caramel flakes, and a mini bowl of melted chocolate with melted marshamellows on top. It was delicious.
The drinks were pretty good. My friend ordered the Long Island Ice tea: Georgia Peach & the Tennessee. I had the L.I. Melon and the house margarita. I thought the margarita's consistency was blended perfectly. Most places' frozen drinks are more icey/slushy-ish, but this place's tasted more like a smoothie. I didn't like the flavor too much, I felt it was too bland for my liking. I had a sip of all the L.I.s and felt the Georgia Peach was by far the best. PLUS the L.I.s were MASSIVE. They came in a huge pitcher. So you definitely get your money's worth.
Between the both of us, my friend and I split the desserts and both tabs came to be about $11.00.
Atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. You could choose to sit out on the patio or inside. Restrooms were clean. Service was sweet and attentive, and the prices were fantastic.
The interior of Houlihan's was vastly different from that what I was imagining. I was imagining a TGIF's or a Bennigan's, but was treated to muted lighting, dark walls, and a totally upscale feel that was offset by the flat screen TVs over the bar and the waitstaff dressed in football jerseys (rest of the world football, not American).
The prices are a little steep for most entrees, but they do have reasonably priced selections too.
My wife and I split two entrees- the Southwest grilled chicken wrap and the Tillamook Burger.
The wrap was very large and was packed with chunks of chicken, crispy tortilla strips, pecans, peppers, & jalapeno ranch. Â It was excellent, but I would have liked a little more bite in the jalapeno ranch, but it was just right for my wife's delicate (wimpy, wimpy) palate.
The Tillamook fantastic...the meat was PERFECTLY seasoned, juicy, and was smokey from the wood fired grill. Â It was a lot like the best burger you've ever made on your own grill. Â You could tell that the lettuce & tomato were hand sliced, not run through a mandolin. Â Wow, it was quite a surprise.
Service was very attentive, although a bit of miscommunication at the end left us waiting about 10 minutes to get our check, but it was 70% my fault (much like every argument I've ever had with my wife).
They have a good selection of fancy little drinks, including martini flights. Â My wife stuck with her Cosmo standby, but I branched out and tried my first dirty martini. Â It will be my last. Â I guess I prefer my gin the way God did--with tonic & a squeeze of lime.
