Great little bar! Â My boyfriend an I met here on a first date a year and a half ago, and try and get back here as often as we can. Â Les is one of the bartenders there and he remembers our names and what we drink. I love that, he's genuinely the nicest bartender I've ever encountered anywhere. Â Makes darn good cocktails too. Â
I can really only rate the fried bologna sandwiches, it's the only thing we ever order here. Â So damn good! Â As a kid, fried bologna was in regular rotation for dinner at my house. You either love it or hate it. Â And I love it. Thick slice of bologna fried up with grilled onion and mustard on grilled rye. Â Ahhh, heaven! Â You can have it your way too...cheese, mayo, raw onion, toasted bread instead if grilled. Â I want one right now!
So do yourself a favor, go to the Inn Place and get a fried bologna sandwich. Â Les by far makes them the best!
A small, neighborhood bar with good food, decent drinks, and a overall good crowd. This is a comfortable little dive bar to attend if you want to avoid the bar scene in downtown Royal Oak. The beer tap selection is pretty limited, but small selection is usually decent.
I have probably been here 5 times and will continue to go back when looking for a good place to chill out and have a drink and bite to eat.
Clean enough to take your parents, but still cool enough that a hipster might venture in.
This place is awesome. Thurs. night karaoke is a blast -- enough people for it to be fun but not too many that you cant get up there several times through the night. The staff was really awesome and will sit and chat with ya - bringing shots galore and famous amos cookies. Try the orange creamsickle shot. Their french fries are extra good too. I enjoyed all the crazy decor and the friendly neighborhood vibe its got goin. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone.
Review Source:We come here for the karaoke night - so much better now that there's no smoke! Â Also, the volume was dropped to a dull roar, so we didn't leave with ringing in our ears like we did a few years ago.
It's a great place for karaoke, but be warned - there's only one server outside of the bar and there's very little room for her to navigate, so you won't see her often.
First off, lets say right out., This is a bar. It's small, but also clean and has a small menu. However the items on the menu are all handled well. I have lived near this place for over 15 years, and never went in until recently. Now I go in frequently.
The food is good. I have had some darn tasty burgers here. They also have a Fried Bologna...yes it sounds weird, but is GOOD! I also had the chicked strips. Nothing special, but not bad. Probably from a frozen bag, but that is not a problem when dealing with a place where the grill is part of the bar. I mean it. The bartender is also manning the grilll! Right there! In front of everybody! This makes them keep the place clean and they handle their food properly, and I have been very comfortable with what I've seen.
They also have an early breakfast service. Hash browns, french toast, bacon, etc. for all those people who work the night shift and are headed home at 7am. I have yet to get in for breakfast, but will try it soon.
Also the staff has been great. Friendly and helpful. Never seeming like it's a pain to take care of you. Many have been there for a long time (15+ years).
My only regret is that I didnt start going here earlier.
Clean, moderately-priced, good food, good drinks, solid staff. Â What more do you want out of a bar? Â A dollar burger? Â I'd skip it and go for the delicious CLEAN burger. Â No offense to the bar on the other end of Main Street that is commonly compared to the Inn Place, but the Inn Place is where it's at. Â Where I come from, CLEAN is an adjective that you always want in your kitchen/bar. Â Love this little neighborhood gem and miss how close it used to be!
Review Source:The bar is small, very clean, great crowd, friendly staff, karaoke nights and they're open at 7am! What else do you want in life?
I could add more and talk about having a dart machine, their selection of beers, pool table, etc... but I think all you really need to know is that they are open at 7am and we should go start the day off right.
Came here with a group of yelpers for a particularly rawkus evening of karaoke. It was a weeknight (Thursday) but the place was still hoppin'. It was packed just the right amount--not too crowded that it was uncomfortable but not too empty that it felt like you were the only person singing all night. The groups that were also there that night were allllll about the country karaoke. I've been told that this is not a regular occurrence but I'm not 100% positive about that. Seeing as how I'm not the biggest country music buff I wasn't singing along to every song but the bar was still fun and the patrons were affable. If you're a country fan it might be worth checking out.
The bar is small but cozy. It was decorated for the holidays and I got a kick out of the lovely Christmas lights and enjoyed checking all the displays out. Jeffrey B and I even looked up where to get the light up peacock online later that night. I've gotsta have it!
The drinks are cheap and strong. I'm pretty sure most folks in our party were buzzin' after one or two. I had a pretty good gin and tonic for just $4. I was recuperating from illness so I didn't indulge in anything else but the one drink I had was solid. Nothing fancy but good for a dive bar. Our waitress was AMAZING. I loved her. I'm blanking on her name but she was lovely; really friendly and had a great sense of humor. She even gave me a scratch ticket just to be nice (I didn't win). The karaoke guy was also awesome and ran things smoothly and very extremely organized. The machine was very fancy--the catalogue is on a computer and you rifle through and sign up that way. I kind of missed flipping through the book at my seat hoping something would pop up at me but it was a nice way to embrace technology. 2012! You're so crazy!
The Inn Place is a regular stop for my fiance and I each week. It truly is a spot for residents in the area to stop in for a drink - you'll often here guests say, "Oh, I live right around the corner." Love that!
If you're looking for fine dining, IP isn't the spot for you. If you're looking for a tasty burger (I actually adore the veggie burger) served quickly with a side of tasty French fries, you're in the right spot.
Thursday night is usually always packed thanks to karaoke, so if that isn't your speed, I'd avoid stopping by that night.
The holidays are always a fun time at IP. Guests decorate the bar for the bigger holidays and it always looks amazing.
The staff at IP is top notch, with Lester taking the highest of honors. He's the best!
This place was actually really fun. Went on a Thursday and they had great kareoke, guy who was running it was very cool and got us up quick. Waitress was very friendly and drinks were cheap, had a corona light for three dollars. Fun easy place to go on a week night, will definitely be back.
Review Source:The patrons and staff made this bar an absolute pleasure, truly a home away from  home. From the moment I arrived until the final Karaoke song, The Inn Place provided a great Thursday night's entertainment. The food hit the spot and was freshly prepared, and the Belgian beer on tap was a pleasant departure from the usual suspects. Fun, friendly and enjoyed lively, informed and articulate conversation with local patrons. Royal Oak is lucky to have such a great hang out and The Inn Place is lucky to have such a great crowd that truly make the place pop!
Review Source:my new favorite time to go to the inn place in 7am. Â for someone that works midnights, there aren't many places to go after work. alex and the inn place are here to save you. the bartender, alex, is pleasantly cantankerous. Â besides the wonderful disposition, she makes the best breakfast sandwich around. eggs, lettuce, ham, cheese, tomato and all of it on a buttered piece of texas toast. pair it with my fave, a draft with tomato juice, and you are in for a morning wake up. or in my case, a great bedtime snack.
love, juston
The Inn Place totally deserves 5 stars. Â This is the best dive bar around.
The staff is so incredibly friendly and welcoming, the beer is cheap, and the bartenders make some kick ass food. Â I've had the veggie burger, wings, and fries - all fabulous.
During holidays they reaaaally overdecorate (this is a good thing!) Â It creates a really fun atmosphere. Â They've got a pretty good jukebox, and pool is free on sundays!
This is our local bar. Â The service and staff cannot be beat. Â They are incredibly friendly and always welcome us back. Â The drinks are good. Â They don't have a huge selection but they try to sneak a couple of creative beers among the usual suspects. Â The food is surprising. Â They have a limited bar like menu but it's made right in front of you. Â Go check it out and tell Lester, Nick sent you. Â
Note: Thursday - Saturday night is karaoke. Â We normally avoid those nights as it gets pretty busy but if that is your thing, you go for it.
Cozy little bar nestled just down a block or so from the intersection at Main and 11 Mile? Excellent. Was in town for a wedding and met friends from college at the bar, and was pleasantly surprised by The Inn Place. I ordered two hard ciders, and if memory serves me, the bill was fairly inexpensive, even after tax and tip. The waitress was really friendly, and apparently a friend of an acquaintance, which always makes for interesting conversation. Better yet? They had karaoke. So fun, would definitely return.
Review Source:I adore the Inn Place. Â Small, great atmosphere, excellent service and so much fun! Â I will admit that I'm not that into karaoke, but you actually don't have to be to enjoy yourself. Â Watching the patrons of Inn Place singing is entertaining enough. Â Maybe some day I will get over my post-Grease solo singing disaster and sing in public again.
Inn Place had a decent beer selection and definitely doesn't stick with the limited selection of PBR and watery beers that sometimes comes with a dive bar. Â Drinks were not watery.
To make things even better, they have a mannequin in the front entry that they dress up according to the seasons. Â It's delightful. Â
One of my favorite new dives in RO.
This is a fun little dive local bar I enjoy going to on occasion when Im in town. I usually get rockstar parking by the door to I go for Karaoke nights which are Thurs and Sat. They have good grilled cheese sammiches and mac and cheese fried bites. Drinks arent to strong but mad well to make your spirits high. Bartenders aren't friendly enough until you go there often. People who go there are usually locals and pretty friendly and encouraging if you sing. I always feel like a rockstar when I go. I never had a bad time there and would rather hit that place up or Luna then going to a rowdy bar around Royal Oak.
Review Source:I've never actually been here for "normal" business hours, just early in the morning at the end of a long midnight shift. Â The place opens at 7am Monday-Saturday with a small breakfast menu. Â It's the perfect place unwind after work, I'm sure the same holds true for the rest of the day.
Review Source:Found this spot on a random search, thanks Yelp App! I originally traveled out to Livonia for Mediterranean but that restaurant just changed owners and wasn't open. I'll digress on that place and review it later.
I'm not a cheapskate but I'll take free parking in Royal Oak anytime. The Inn isn't located right downtown either which can be a plus as well.
Idono, I liked the place the minute I walked through the door. It was rather dark inside, and although small, it was only about half full at 6:30 on a Wednesday evening.
A taller slender and I'll add cute women waited our table. She was pleasant and provided good service.
The Chicken Wings: Good, and not too greasy. They tasted like regular chicken, only they were much smaller. I prefer hot wings, but no biggie.
Mini Tacos: Pretty darn good! Again, not greasy. They may have been out of the freezer but didn't taste frozen to me.
Potato Skins good.
Onion Rings good.
Beer cold.
Me come back...
The best thing I can say about the IP is they know how to decorate. Every "holiday" looks great. However, service and food are quite variable. Sometimes the place is full with no waitstaff except the bartender and service is glacially slow. The food can go from "pretty good" to dry and badly-cooked. I used to go there a lot, but no more. I don't have the patience or the stomach.
Review Source:I can't remember the price range because I was drinking. I do remember the place being awesome and the people being nice. I thought it was too small for a karaoke machine at first but I was wrong. The drinks were great. Also, you can leave your car there overnight with no problem in case you, like I, was drinking...a lot. Also, walking distance from a Leo's Coney Island.
I can't wait to go back.
Came here last night for an old co-worker's going away party. As soon as I walked in I felt like I had just been teleported to New Awlins! I mean it looked like Mardi Gras came through and threw up in there! There were beads, and streamers and signs and the whole shebang! The place is really quaint but they had plenty of room to accommodate our party of 18 :)
Our waitress was awesome, I can't remember her name, but she was great, she didn't even mind everyone being on separate tabs, which is quite unusual at most restaurants/bars with a party as big as ours. I had a Labatt light on draft and then everyone got a round of red headed-sluts which tasted amazing. Their food menu is typical bar food: chicken tenders, fries, mozzarella sticks, wings, reubens, grilled cheese, etc. I wasn't very hungry so I tried my friends fries which were definitely made fresh cuz you could see the potato skin still on some of the fries. They were crisp and lightly salted to perfection. Their  mozzarella sticks however were kinda small and tasted like fish sticks with cheese in them... My friend really liked his chicken tenders though.
Don't be fooled by the cigarette vending machine in the corner, this place is surprisingly not smokey! And although only one stall, their bathrooms are also VERY clean for a corner pub.
The crowd here is more 30-50ish but it's a damn good place to get a brewski and chat with friends over a basket of fried mushrooms!
Gotta give it up for the best dive bar in Royal Oak! Â (And yes, i mean the best over gusoline alley!). Â This is a place that you can sing karaoke, drop your peanut shells on the ground and let loose. Â Sometimes they have open mic night which is just awesome. Â The food isn't anything special - but it is your delicious bar food that tastes great after a few brews! Â This is just a little place to go out when you don't feel like doing anything with your hair, face or outfit. Â Just a great place to relax and have fun!!
Review Source:My friend with two first names and I got drunk here a few times. Â As far as Royal Oak goes, this place is the best place to get drunk. Â The drinks are cheap, the food is good, and the service is very friendly. Â I kind of want to get drunk now after thinking of this place. Â In fact, I'm going to.
Review Source:For what it is (a small neighborhood-type bar) this is as good as it gets. It's a hole in the wall kind of place, only clean. There's also karaoke with a lot of regulars who know how to sing, so it can be pretty entertaining. Menu is small, but pretty good! I love the veggie burger.
Go on/near a holiday, any holiday. Their decorations are over the top and awesome, but somehow not tacky. I think you need to see it not decorated first to really appreciate the difference.
Love it!
Two words: mini tacos. Okay, one more word: karaoke.
I have a friend who WHENEVER I want to hang out with him, he says, "Meet me at the Inn Place." At first I was annoyed, like, why does this guy only hang out at the Inn Place.
Well, he can walk there -- a GREAT quality in a bar, wish I had that -- but now I can't wait to go meet him at the Inn Place.
It's really small, but the bartenders are so nice and they remember you the next time you come in.
Great cold beer, great hot mini tacos. And grilled cheese. Mmmmm, the grilled cheese. Great chili, too. Actually, I haven't had anything I didn't like. Nothing too healthy, however.
Thursday and Saturday nights are karaoke and it is a-mazing. The sign in slips, get this, AREN'T slips. You just step up to a keyboard, type in the first few letters of an artist or song name, browse around for a bit, choose your song and type your name. Then, they seriously put the queue (thanks, Netflix, for introducing Americans to this term) up on the screen after/before every song.
If you like to have a beer in a laid-back atmosphere - and let's face it, who doesn't? - there's no possible way you can be disappointed by the Inn Place.
Also, the 17-year-old joint just got a cute-as-pie makeover inside, complete with black subway tiles behind the bar, a nice navy paint job, big flatscreen TVs, and a huge sturgeon (swordfish?) on the wall.
Royal oak's Inn Place is an unexpected and quite hidden gem. The tiny white building on Main Street is easy to pass by, but once you've had some greasy snacks, enjoyed the company of the welcoming regulars and bartenders, and dump a few bucks of quarters into the awesome jukebox, you'll certainly always remember where it is.
This tiny bar, with low light and no fancy martinis, shot girls dressed in bikinis is the perfect place to go when you just wanted to grab some drinks with friends, listen to some tunes, or get in a little or lot of karaoke.
I'm not sure how I first stopped into the Inn Place, but I'm certainly glad I did. The bartender greeted us with genuine hellos and the other bar goers with warm smiles. My mixed drink was not only well made, but well priced. Oh, and the jukebox!!! Â This is probably the fanciest thing in the joint! It is loaded with everything from Brandi to Blondie to Johnny Cash to Al Green. It's awesome and makes fro a wonderful casual experience.
On Fridays, this marvelous bar offers karaoke and although I've never been, I've gotten word that it's a pretty slammin' time. And if the karaoke selection is anywhere near the jukebox selection, I'm sold.
So, for those of you who are looking for a great local bar with no over the top umbrella drinks on fire, the Inn Place is a comfy and cozy joint to relax, rock out to some tunes, and sip a few brews.
This is a good locals bar. Â The bartenders are friendly, introduce themselves, and make a genuine effort to get to know their customers. Â Their bar food is perfectly fine for bar food. Â Plus, their Friday night karaoke is pretty entertaining, though the place can be packed for this.
