Love this place! We went there with all three kids and two of our buddies and it was a breath of fresh air. Service was stellar and they even gave our son a free round of pool. The food was awesome. I had the Oktoberfest burger and it was, by far, one of the top ten burgers I have ever had. Great beer selection. Will be frequenting this joint.
Review Source:Irinas is a little local bar in strip mall that looks like it appeals to local Oside drinkers. We just finished up a basketball game in Oside and saw that Irinas had a Yelp check in special, so we decided to check it out. We went for the food; and the story isn't pretty. The food outside of the German food was dismal. My chef salad was all iceberg lettuce, no eggs, shredded cheap cheese, not julienne quality cheddar, 4 tiny pieces of tomato, no ham, no turkey, with some chicken that I ordered on it; the waitress messed up the order 3 times. Here is a recipe that I think is the bare minimum for a chef salad: http://www.recipetips.co…
The burgers the other two people ordered were bland, small, and served with a tiny amount of french fries. Â The bright side of Irinas is the bratwurst my GF ordered, which was very good, but should have come with fries for $7.50. Â I think Irinas should consider more German food, get a better chef salad recipe and go to a solid burger place like the Encinitas Ale House to learn how to make a burger. Â With the right new menu I would definitely try Irinas again. Â The staff was super nice so I'd love to see them get it right.
Irina's looks like your average dive bar, but definitely offers a lot of small nuances that cultivate its vibe. Â I love that they have a small German menu, and highly recommend the bratwurst and sauerkraut. Â The homemade sauerkraut with shredded carrots really defines the dish. Â We also ordered the stuffed cabbage because of so many raving yelp reviews. Â It was good but not very memorable. Â All in all, I will definitely be heading back, and would recommend this to a friend looking for a low key bar.
Review Source:Yelp has served me well once again, and helped me discover this fantastic hidden gem in Oceanside.
Irina's looks like a dive bar from the outside. Â Inside, it looks like a slightly less divey bar. Â There's lots of seating, a menu of your typical bar food, and a couple of pool tables, and some TVs. Â But you are here for the German food. Â Scrumptious, extremely well priced, extraordinarily generously portioned German food! Â And the nice selection of German and San Diego county beers, on tap and in bottles, also for great prices. Like a goblet of Alesmith Speedway Stout for $5! Â Or a great big bottle of Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen (poured the traditional, proper way, with the bottle upside down in the right kind of glass, and swirled to get the sediment) for only $3.50!
The German food is not on the regular menu, but in photographs behind the bar. Â Our party tried the soup, brats, jaeger schnitzel, and stuffed cabbage. Â The soup was nothing to write home about. Â It has little bits of crepe in it, which is unusual and interesting. Â But the vegetable broth is on the bland/weak side. I would only get this if you are a vegetarian.
The brats are super tasty, and a great value; you get two big sausages on bread with homemade sauerkraut for under $8. Â The schnitzel is an even better value; it's perhaps the largest cut of meat I have ever seen on a restaurant plate, served with tasty, chunky steak fries. Â For about ten bucks!
The cabbage (my entree) stole the show. Â It's also a really generous portion, and comes with homemade sauerkraut and potatoes. Â It's interestingly and delicately spiced, and packs a flavorful punch. Â You won't regret it!
My girlfriend and I discovered Irina's while working on a project for a college course. Â We needed to go somewhere that served authentic German food. Â To our dismay, there were not very many German restaurants in the county. Â After contemplation we ultimately decided on Irina's because of the ratings, even though it was roughly a 40 minute drive.
My first impression when we pulled up was, "Bummer, this is just another dive bar." Â I was worried that they would serve nothing more than finger foods, and that I had been misled by online reviews. Â Fortunately, I was wrong.
Upon entering, we were instantly greeted by Jonas. Â He recommend a great beer, and put in our orders for bratwurst and jagerschnitzel. Â He then came back and had an extended conversation with us about Germany (beer, best places to visit, etc). Â It turns out that his wife works with him at the bar, and that Irina is his mother-in-law. Â What a quaint family business.
The conversation was awesome. Â The food was terrific! Â This place is epic. Â I highly recommend going there.
A large group of us went without giving them a heads notice. Even being unprepared for our group, they were very accommodating. While the German food looked delicious, the drunken group of us decided to keep with the typical finger foods.
Our experience was very positive. We had lots of fun and met some really cool regulars too.
Love that Oceanside has a great neighborhood place like Irina's! Â I come once a week to have beer and dinner at the bar and play trivia with other regulars. Â Jonas will pour my beer as soon as I walk in. Â He's an extremely nice guy and Michele, another bartender with the awesome dreadlocks, is a very nice person to chat with also. Â But, unlike the one reviewer who felt Irina has no people skills, I find her sweet with a huge desire to make sure your meal is perfect. Â She made my wife's panini three times because she thought the bread was too toasted. Â
The menu is awesome! Â I haven't had a bad meal here yet. Â The German menu is incredible. Â I highly recommend the stuffed cabbage or the jagerschnitzel, both are killer. Â The burgers are killer also!
My only wish is that they had a dessert menu too.
I was very impressed with this bar..
The service, the food and my new favorite drink Julian cider!
Jonah's (the bartender) was really attentive. He went as far as letting my husband try new different beers just to find him the right one (all free of charge). The food was delicious. I had a Havana melt. Which is basically a grown up version of a grill cheese with a hint of a tropic taste. My husband is a wings guy. So naturally had to try their version and was impressed.
All in all it was really good food great service and very good beer. We will deff be back.
Irina's is my kind of place.
Simple decor (bordering on dive, but not quite there); Â moderate level of corporate advertisements; relaxed, welcome atmosphere; all ear marks of a proper neighborhood bar.
The drink prices are solid, and first time Yelpers that check in get a pretty sweet deal out of it (I won't spoil it, but I highly recommend using it). Â
I didn't order any food, but it seemed appealing from what was coming out of the kitchen and the general reaction from the patrons who were taking part.
They could use at least one extra set of hands to help out. Â The lone bartender, though friendly whilst serving you, was difficult to nail down between the regulars that know her and had her attention, and the large-ish crowd for a Thursday night. Â It's a great big bar to sit at, so another server/bartender couldn't hurt.
I'll certainly be back, this time to try the food.
Neighborhood gem. Â Now easier to locate with bright new neon signage. The place is a bit obstructed by the Deiberto's in the front part of the parking lot.
Approx. 18 beers on tap, thirty+ bottled beers and wines are also available. They offer a nice selection. Â A cozy and slightly worn bar with 2 pool tables, Â TVs for sports and monitors for bar trivia. There are the local cast of characters at the bar counter. Makes for great conversations.
Irina's is another comfort food find. They are now offering a small menu of German dishes. I got the stuffed cabbage and wowie it was great. I Â look forward to going back and trying some of the other authentic dishes, like the Jagerschnitzel or brats. Â They also offer the standard bar fare of burgers, wings, fries, etc...
Jonas, Svetlana and Irina are the proprietors. They are very personable. It is our "Cheers" and could be yours, too.
We were really looking forward to great wings as one reviewer touted, unfortunately I would never order them again as they were dry and dipped in sauce. Â Ok ok ok my fault, I mean they are German so next time we will try the German food. Â We really want the place to succeed so keeping our fingers crossed. Â Service was great, they even called us back to let us know our wings were ready.
Review Source:Finally, salvation. The beer is ice cold, the fries are great, and the place is family owned and driven. They have about a dozen and a half beers on tap, that are from different styles of beer. Finally a nice place to drink a brew and watch a game in Oceanside.
They don't show UFC fights so that takes some of the rowdy Saturday night crowd out of the place. I called ahead of time, and they had no problem getting the NJ Devils vs. Pittsburgh Penguins on their televisions, so they have a good sports package.
Like other reviews say they have your typical bar menu, and they have traditional German meals strung across the back of the bar, with pictures, but good luck pronouncing the words when you order, haha.
The bartender was extremely friendly and my girlfriend and I enjoyed our time there and chatting with him.
This wasn't the last time I'm going to visit this place. I'm definitely intrigued by all the German food and will have to start trying it in future visits. You don't understand how badly this area needed a bar like this.
(Update!)
I've made my way around the whole German menu. My favorite thing is the brats, followed closely by the stuffed cabbage. My standard eat here is the fries for sure though, whole basket of 'em for like 4 bucks, can't go wrong there. Oh, did you know you get half off your first beer on tap if you use Yelp to check-in there? Oh and the bathrooms are clean, I know women care about that kind of stuff :-P
What an amazing little find!
I was looking through Yelp for some place new to try and I stumbled across Irina's. Â What intrigued me was the promise of German food. Â We loaded into the car and were surprised to discover that this is the bar formerly known as Shenanigans, which closed a bit back. Â I never really pay attention when driving past since Deiberto's partially blocks the location, but here we were just the same!
The set up is small but easy: two pool tables ($.75 to play), several small tables, TVs surrounding (it is a sports bar), juke box, and several beers on tap. Â On the tables, you'll find a simple sports bar menu, but on the wall behind the bar, you'll see about 5 different entrees (with pictures) of different German foods. Â We ordered the jagerschnitzel with fried potato pieces, and the bratwurst with sauerkraut. Â Both meals were amazing and the sauerkraut was both fresh and delicious.
The bar is run by a young couple and the wife's mother, who moved here from Germany about half a year ago. Â The food is authentic and if the demand persists, they'd like to increase the German offerings on the menu. Â I'll definitely go back to try more dishes, like the stuffed peppers or cabbage rolls. Â The owners seem incredibly nice, and I hope that they make it. Â This is a definite go-to!
Hidden gem! Well, maybe not hidden, but its a sweet neighborhood bar and grill I never knew about. Yes, it's in the hood, but don't judge...just pop in.
First impression is total dive. Dim lights, 2 pool tables, long bar, and a jukebox. While it is somewhat dive-ish, they have a wide array of beer on-tap choices served very very cold, the way a delicious beer should be served.
You may notice the menu on the table, I mean it is a grill also. Plenty of choices here. Had the Havana burger with fries. Added avocado on the burger to turn it Cali style. Food was better than most up scale bar and grills.
Not in the mood for grill menu?? No worries, take a look at the special menu on the wall behind the counter. The owner and family are from Germany, so they come all the way over here to share cold beer and authentic German dishes!
Jonas was our bartender who was awesome from the start. He offered complementary beer tasters and made some recommendations on the menu. He even came and talked with us for a bit. His mother-in-law (owner) brought the food out. She was very sweet and catering. We split the meal with no extra charge. I hate the split charge many places have.
Very chill relaxed place. Kinda dive, but the food is great. Perfect place to stop in for a German lunch and cold beer. Â
Good for groups and pool players. OK for after dinner dates (not intimate ones).
My husband and I love this place. There are not many sit down restaurants in the valley, so it was nice to find one that has a pretty good draft beer selection and amazing food! The staff/ owners are all great. Irina makes her way out of the kitchen to check personally that everyone is enjoying the meals she just cooked. Not many places take the time to make sure their customers are happy with the food. Well done. : ) we are regulars here now.
Review Source:Watch out, this place will definitely catch you off guard. I used to come here occasionally with the guys for football when the game wasn't on at the house.. But back then it was completely different...
One day, my husband and I needed to watch the Seahawks get their asses kicked by the Lions (dammit!!!) and since the game wasn't on at the house, we came here.
When you come in and sit down it just seems like a normal sports bar, which is good.. there's a bunch of big screen TVs, and beer galore. It's not usually packed here either which is nice. It took me a few trips coming here to realize the 'secret' behind Irina's. Are you ready?
They straight up make authentic German food.
Check out the menu.. normal sports bar things, poppers, chicken wings, fries, etc. But look at the wall above the bar? Bratwurst sausages with home made sauerkraut! Stuffed peppers! Other yummy German foods! What?! SO good.
Definitely check out Irina's if you are in the area! A great place to watch the game with way better food than your normal sports bar! :)
great, unpretentious, local bar and grill. I was there in the daytime once and the younger girl whom I believe to be Irina's daughter that works the bar was sitting down with their beer distributor, ordering beer. Eavesdropping, I was impressed at how discerning she was as to what they choose to stock and why (they are german, after all). Needless to say, you will be hard pressed to find a better selection of german and local beers in the area. Â The soup with the pancakes in it is probably one of the best things I have ever tasted and Im sure I would say the same thing about the rest of the menu if I wasnt such a pansy vegetarian. Jonas is a good guy and and always makes you feel welcome, the place definitely has a neighborhood feel to it and it will always be my go-to hangout whenever Im in oceanside.
Review Source:This place rocks! Just what you want and expect from a friendly neighborhood bar. The beer is cold and reasonably priced, but the real secret is the food. The typical bar grub is fresh and delicious, and the specials are something to keep coming back for. Irina provides an authentic German flair with her home cooked recipes. Soups, bratwurst, stuffed cabbage, it's all awesome!
Good specials and happy hour every day 3-6pm and during games. Also stop in for game day breakfast/brunch!
Irinas Bar and Grill is a great place to go for good homestyle food and ice cold beer. Service is friendly and efficient. Jonas always remembers what you like to order and starts filling your glass when you come in the door. Irina makes great food including her homemade sauercraut. I would recommend Irinas Bar and Grill to all my friends.
Review Source:The place is run by Irina, her daughter and son-in-law, all of which are very nice and provide excellent customer service. Irina's homemade German food is outstanding - have had all German themed items on the menu (kraut is excellent). Love the Oktoberfest burger. We are also BIG wings fans growing up back East we've had a very hard time finding good wings in San Diego County. They make theirs crispy (extra crispy upon request) and served with Bleu Cheese or Ranch (but real wing eaters don't eat Ranch). Great beer selection and now starting to offer good German beers. Worth checking them out!
Review Source:Irina's is a welcome treat to Oceanside. Now we have a place to go for some good German home cooking. We had some very good stuffed cabbage rolls and stuffed peppers. The bratwurst were served with some killer homemade sauerkraut. Irina is a very pleasant lady and the bar is also staffed with her daughter and son in law. They said they will be expanding the German cuisine on the menu.
Great place to see the games and get some good homemade grub. Nice selection of brew too.
Been coming to this location for over a decade, miss the old times there. New owner has ZERO "people skills", but Bernard makes up for her lack of customer service. I hope the new owner appreciates him as much as the rest of us do. As long as Irina stays in the kitchen, and not out in the bar dealing with the public, it's all good.
Review Source:Irinas is great, it has such a welcoming feel. Â The new owners and employees are very friendly, they are so great at what they do that when you come back for the second they already remember you and what you had. Â Irinas has a pretty good selection of beer on tap and by the bottle and they often has specials. Â Food here is amazing! Â The french dip is a must try!
Review Source:Great food, comfortable atmosphere, friendly owner. This was LB's until recently and now Irina's is a change for the better. The owner, Irina served us directly and presented us with items that were not even on the menu. Panini sandwiches, homemade chili and Ice cold beer. The place is large and well lit and there are big tv's everywhere. The new owner is German and on my next visit Irina made me the best hamburger ever. Very old world style. She says that she grinds the beef herself and never freezes the meat. The employees are wonderful, the bartendress is cute and there is no pressure. Its like I am at home, only better. I will definately go back. oh yeah you can call ahead and take food home too. That is a nice touch when I don't feel like cooking for the family. This is going to be our "after the game" stop.
