As a local, I've been to Irish Eyes many times. Â The past few times have gotten progressively worse. Â We always choose to sit at the outside bar or the tables around the bar. Â There are very few bartenders that we like, more so, have "manners". Â Hearing how people are spoken to, I can't believe some still have their jobs. Â The last time we were there, will be the last time. Â Our bartender, Amie, couldn't have been worse. Â Each time that I'm there and we get her, I am amazed by the customer service, or lack there of! Â
I've always loved going there and being right on the water, but for the quality of the food and service, it's not worth it. Â Truly ashame that a server like Amie can give you such a bad taste on a place that we've gone to our whole lives.
Irish Flies is more like it. The deck is covered in flies. Food is overpriced and mixed drinks watered-down. But, nice view and hard to screw up beer and burgers. Do not order anything you wouldn't trust a 12 year-old to make. Good place to bring kids, just don't expect too much. Much like a Soviet grocery store in 1982, they know they are one of the only games in town and act accordingly. Â Take a picnic to the park across the inlet and save the $$$. The luck o' the Irish has run out.
Review Source:Over the last 6 years, my wife and I have eaten at Irish Eyes several times. Apparently, chefs come and go so this review may not be valid in the future! In the past, before I went gluten free, I had had their fish and chips. To ME, they were as good as any I'd had in England! A couple of years ago, the restaurant burned down and had to be rebuilt. It is very comfortable and even though there is a sports area near the bar and not far from where we were seated, we did not HEAR the TV.
My family and I had lunch at the Lewes location of Irish Eyes today, December 30, 2012. I am gluten free and was delighted that the waitress had educated herself about the dietary needs associated with this. She was able to advise me of appropriate menu choices. I had ceviche - yes, I KNOW this is a STRANGE choice for an Irish restaurant, but it was excellent. I also had the wedge salad, comprising a quarter of a large head of iceberg lettuce, bacon, tomatoes, blue cheese, ranch dressing and a few slices of cucumber. My wife had a classic burger, my daughter had a roast beef au jus sandwich and my son-in-law a cup of their cream of crab soup and a fried oyster po-boy sandwich. ALL of us found our food to be excellent. Generous portions, FRESHLY made and tasty. The two sandwiches came with home made potato chips and the hamburger with fries (I think you have a choice of the two). Both were excellent. For desert, we shared an egg nog creme brule, a key lime pie and a slice of cheesecake with several toppings on the side. ALL were notable.
Our waitress well attended to our needs without being intrusive. All in all a great experience.
Irish Eyes usually has a wide variety of beers and ales on tap in addition to a wide assortment of bottled brews.
Great dinner and super friendly bartender. My husband and I sat at the bar and ordered oysters, shrimp and burgers. It was ALL just delish! Oh, and the martinis were great too ;-). A very authentic spot. Seemed like a popular spot for the locals. A great find for us and would definitely eat there again when in the area.
Review Source:Food was decent, nothing special. I had the ruben. Â Family's food was OK, service was mediocre at best and they were only about half full. Â If you have a nice day, sitting outside you can enjoy seeing the boats come in and out of the docks. Â There are better options, both in quality and value. Â Not likely to return.
Review Source:I so wish we could do half stars, because I think this place deserves more than 3, but not quite 4. Â Clearly, Lucy, I have some 'splainin' to do.
The good stuff: Â we were a group of 5 and got a table seated on the porch. Â So neat to be on the water, and even on a hot day, there was a breeze.
Our server was attentive and available, although in asking whether something could be exchanged for something else (I dared asked for a vegetable instead of french fries) I honestly think I offended him. Â But he got over it, and it was reliable service.
Our group had a mix of things -- two got the crab cake sandwich, which they really liked. Â I had the veggie burger, which was totally delicious. Â We agreed that the best part of our sandwiches was the roll they came on. Â The veggie burger had a nice guacamole on top which gave it a little kick, but not too much.
What was AWESOME was we shared an order of the fried pickles. Â That's right, you heard me -- FRIED PICKLES. Â Sounds totally bizarre, but they were ridiculously good. (Warning: Â They are SUPER hot on the inside; it's deceptive because when you pick them up they've already cooled on the outside). Â They come with like a chipotle mayo -- yum--mee!
Now the other stuff:
I do think it's pretty crazy that I couldn't get a vegetable or salad instead of french fries or potato chips, but then again, it's a pub and I'm not sure they're overly concerned about health-consciousness!
Had a cup of the tomato soup as a starter; did NOT care for it. Â There was an herb they used, I couldn't distinguish it, but it was far too strong and too much. Â Tomato bisque should taste tomato-y, and the spice way overshadowed the flavor.
I had a glass of red wine that was really disappointing; I'd suggest sticking with beer if you're going to drink (and like beer of course!).
If you sit on the porch, it is made of wood that "gives" -- and with servers walking by pretty quickly and regularly, it almost bounces a bit. Â So that took some getting used to.
Finally, be forewarned -- a boat went by and several of the folks on it mooned all of us. Â We thought it was pretty funny since none of us had been mooned since, I don't know, 1982 maybe? Â But then we saw that there were a good number of families also on the porch -- I know if my child had been with me I wouldn't have been very happy about that. Â But in Lewes, DE it seems to be considered a real boon to have been mooned when sitting at the Irish Eyes enjoying a drink and/or a meal. Â Just sayin'...
What a great time we had here! Â First of all, the huge wraparound porch with views of the water is wonderful. Â Second of all, they left us bring the dog to the end of the porch which they call the bar...I'm totally impressed by any place that's dog friendly. Â Third, we had some of the best-tasting, freshest oysters on the half-shell that I've ever had, we ordered a 2nd dozen, and then a third dozen...crazy good! Â The fish was very fresh and well prepared. Â The crowd can get a teensy rowdy but were also really friendly as were the wait staff, even at the end of the summer while slammed with customers. Â So glad we took the chance to come here.
Review Source:This is the perfect location for lunch, cocktails, etc. especially after boating or fishing! we were here last year and this year and their quality has not changed - very fresh fish, beautiful and tasty salads ( i love the spinach salad) great sandwiches (try the blackened mahi / the carolina'r) plus the mussels are exceptional!
love the view! friendly service, can't be beat!
Decent enough bar food. Their wings are pretty good but, on the whole, the food is quite average. My girlfriend thought her turkey burger was awesome. My wings were tasty, yet unmemorable. In a town lacking off-season bar food, this is a good bet. If you aren't looking for bar food, don't bother.
One minor quibble, don't order a shandy. We asked for one, expecting a pint of Harp and a splash of sprite. We were served a large cocktail glass filled to the top with ice, and an even mixture of beer and sprite. Disgusting. Not, however, as foul as the $8.95 price tag. Apparently, they have a mixed drink called a "summer shandy" on their cocktail menu and assumed we wanted that. I'd hate to see what they'd make if you asked for a black and tan.
First time I've been in since this rebuild.
Went in for their Monday night burger special...
5.99$ gets you a big fresh burger cooked perfectly....with your choice of cheese. Â Use the toppings bar to add whatever else you want (pickles, peppers, mayo etc)
Very good...worth the trip into Lewes.
Service was great as well.
Would definately go back for dinner to try something else on the menu.
I was very pleasantly surprised by this place! Â We had dinner outside on their patio overlooking the canal after a day at the beach and had a great experience. Â The caesar salad with crab cake was great (although the crab cake had a lot of breading and not much big lumps of meat). Â The key west style shrimp and scallops were also very good although they were a little over seasoned. Â Overall I would definitely recommend, especially since there are surprisingly few places to eat in Lewes with a direct view of the water.
Review Source:Went to this particular Irish Eyes for the first time ever for lunch today, and boy was I glad I did.
There service was above par, which is always nice. Â They were busy, but our server still managed to keep our glasses full and check on us with a smile.
The food? Â Really good! Â I had the JT's Dog special, which was a mammoth chili cheese dog on a homemade roll. Â It was really good, but the bread was spectacular! Â Really good bread. Â We had the crab dip bread bowl as an app. Â That was really good, but be warned, the bread bowl is really shallow. Â The dip was delicious and packed with crab, and the bread bowl was also extremely tasty.
The lady had the English Cod Melt, and really enjoyed it. Â Again, the bread it was on (a marble rye) was absolutely amazing.
Based on my experiences at the Rehoboth Irish Eyes, I wasn't expecting a whole lot and was very pleasantly surprised.
Will be coming back here often! Â Outside seating is great when the temperatures are cooperative!
Currently in it's third reincarnation (2 fires in the past 2 years or so have burned this place to the ground, but thankfully they keep on rebuilding!), Irish Eyes is my personal favorite bar/restaurant in Lewes due to it's scenic location on the canal, casual food and bar menus, and reasonable prices.  On my last visit, I had the blackened mahi mahi which was great.  If you're not in the mood for an entree, they have a nice choice of burgers, chicken and seafood sandwiches to try out.  Not all have been winners on my plate, but there's always something new to try.  Good for lunch and dinner, kids and adults, plenty of off street parking, canal side in and outside dining...Irish Eyes is a great staple  in Lewes that deserves multiple visits.
Review Source:My wife and I eat at this restaurant at least once a week and we have nothing but great things to say about this restaurant. The waitresses are always there at your table without asking to refill drinks and always have a smile on their faces. We have been at this restaurant now about 20 times in the past five months and every time we go the food is consistently good. We've never had a bad time ever at this place. My wife and I frequently eat out quit a bit and like to try different local restaurants and I have to say nothing even comes close to the quality of the service and food of this establishment. Take my word for it you will not be disappointed!
