The Irish Pub looks like the bar that time forgot. Â Thankfully, the prices have been frozen in time also. Â
In a sea of seedy gogo bars and glitzy casino bars, Irish Pub certainly offers a happy medium. Â The drinks are fair in price, the food is decent and cheap as well, and the service is friendly. Â The bar section is really nice, old fashioned wood, and the dining room is a great size.
Irish Pub is located right off the boardwalk and open 24/7. Â Their menu is standard bar ood...my husband said his wings were good, and my grilled chicken sandwich was fine. Â
The Irish Pub is a favorite spot of mine when I am trolling around AC. Â It's an old stand by that has stood the test of time!
After a night of overindulgence me and my two buddies were looking for a spot to grab a bight. Got on Yelp and found The Irish Pub, menu items were cheap, sounded amazing, so we decided to head down. If you're expecting a pub like you'd actually see in Ireland you'll be sorely disappointed. All we could think is what pub in Ireland did they go to!?! The service was decent enough, the St James Potatoes were the best part of our meal, and I'll give them props for cooking a medium rare burger (more and more places won't do that nowadays). One in my group had the fish and chips and it was pretty flavorless. My burger was OK, though I wanted A-1, which they didn't have. The food and drinks are certainly cheap though, quite possible the best deal in AC (aside from the $2 drafts at the wild west casino).
To sum it up, the food is decent (nothing to call home about), the prices are reasonable, but the atmosphere leaves something to be desired, it's really cluttered and cramped. Also they do not accept credit cards... what kind of business doesn't accept credit cards in this day and age?!? You can accept on a cell phone!! Come on, get with the times.
I spend 99% of my time at the Irish Pub at the outside bar when the weather is nice. One of the nicest places in AC during the summer nights. Drinks are reasonable, staff is cool, food is decent but nothing special. I rarely go in the winter months as the inside of the bar to me just isn't as great.
Review Source:Cheap. Always open. Good food. Small menu. They usually have an irish special everyday like shepherds pie or classic meatloaf. Service is not their forte. Dark and outdated, as a pub should be. Bottom line- fine anytime of the day, but best as a 4 am drunken stop. Can rent rooms above the bar.
Review Source:I've been here @ least 6 times in the past few years. Â Decent bar food, good Guinness & the right amount of attitude.
This is by no means a fancy place, but a little gritty. Â Last time in was about a month ago & still the same. Â Good place to get fcuked up in AC on the cheap. Â Love the late night early morning Guinness...
Amazing food. Great prices. Cheap beer. The oil needs to be changed more often, which is the reason this is not five stars. The French fries and fish on my last trip swear a little stinky, but the burgers and corn beef were top notch. The bar tenders were all great, but the waitresses were a bit distant. Sit at the bar for the best service.
Years ago I would have given them five stars, but lately the kitchen and wait staff have been slacking. 4 stars. I still would recommend to any fan of tasty Irish bar food.
Best bar to go to in AC. Why? Yuengling is $3. Secondly, their wings and corned beef were excellent and the prices are very VERY reasonable. Then of course from previous visits, you can also get $5 mixed drinks (like Jack & Coke). Service is great and they treat you well. It gets a good bar scene and you don't feel like you're in AC. Like Picalilli across the block, these are two local bars in town. Only downside of this place are the Fish & Chips were sub-par ($8)....you get what you paid for and you can do better in AC for that. To be fair, the batter and frying they did was done well. Also, a true Irish Bar would serve Kilkenny beer so if you're in the mood for that, you're stuck with Guinness at best. Finally, bring cash because they don't accept plastic.
Review Source:What kind of "Irish Pub" does not serve pub food? The menu consists of the same kind of food served on the boardwalk. Major disappointment to say the least.
The New Jersey  crab cakes were what you expect from something names after the chemical factory capital of the north east, slimy and tasteless. I highly doubt that any crabs were harmed in the production of said cakes.
The fish and chips were good. The portion of fish was small. I also ordered a side of gravy which was home made and delicious.
4square had a but ten dollars get ten off so it made it tolerable.
The staff are clueless. I ordered a Jamason's neat and the bartender asked me what that meant.
Great place! Prices are very reasonable and all food is very good. The menu is limited, but sometimes you can luck out and get the chicken parm sandwich special. Its huge and very filling.
Staff is nice and the place has a great look and feel. Drinks are reasonable and the bar has a very nostalgic feel about it.
We've probably been there over 10 times and never once have we had a bad experience. Great hidden Gem!
A rib kick to your ugly-ass face, that's the Irish Pub. Inside, there's a booth with a reserved sign, that's the owner's booth. I sat in this booth and instantly was told to move and that I had three days to live. The place is a dive bar with cheap drinks and cheap food. I didn't see anything on the lunch menu over 8.50.
I got the crab cakes and they were good for the money.
I love a joint that has a working payphone. In the days of caller ID It's very entertaining to give a friend a call from a payphone and hear them answer,
"Uhhhhh hello?"
They have a jukebox that's not connected to the internet. You mean I have to select from a limited number of songs? That's like a baby's toy.
A great place to get your Lurp on and save some bucks before playing some games of chance. They have free parking, but you don't get a jackpot for parking there.
Yes, the prices are cheap and they must have problems with people walking out on their bills. Â They asked for cash payment after ordering drinks, after food delivery & again after drinks were ordered. Â Got fish & chips to eat and the fish appeared to be previously frozen and dripping with grease. Â Oh, and they only gave us three little pieces of fish. Â And make sure that you do not call Scott the bartender "Uncle Jesse" like the other locals. Â He will not acknowledge you since apparently you are not his friend. Â Don't waste your time on this place, try somewhere else instead.
One more thing...they do not have a radio to play at the outside bar, only a jukebox that has a lot of out-of-date music.
Good:
1. Reasonable beer prices. Yeungling is $3.50, think Sam Adams seasonal is a buck more.
2. Food is cheap. $5.50 for a sandwich? Sounds good to me!
Not so good:
1. The beer selection. Just your standard macrobrews plus Sam Adams seasonal (yet strangely not Sam Adams itself).
2. The interior also kinda stunk. My nose definitely did not enjoy it. Thankfully the Irish Pub has a patio. Don't think I would have wanted to stay here beyond a quick drink had I needed to stay inside.
It's also cash-only.
This is the place to go to when in AC. Cheap drafts and drinks. Cheap food. Open all night long! I stayed in AC for two nights and came here both nights. They have awesome specials for food between 2-5am. I feel like The bar itself is fairly large and they have a decent dining area. Several drafts on tap, too. Why waste your money at the casinos, when you can go to the Irish Pub and have a good time instead. Â The only part I don't like is that the area is a bit sketchy at night. It may have been because it was in April and not really touristy yet, but who knows, that may just be AC for you!
Review Source:Maybe second or third times a charm because my first time was certainty not.
We paid for parking although I'm not sure we had to, maybe their was a lot around we don't know about?
Instantly noticed most of the wait staff was good looking girls Hi-ooo. Â :-P Â We're off to a good start.
The menu had a small selection which i like. I don't need a billion choices, i feel like I'm in a diner if i can order almost anything. Anddddd oh yea, its cheap as hell. I think one of the most expensive things on the menu was like $10!!
Our waitress was eh, lets just say not too friendly. Â Its funny how contagious an attitude is.
I got a Rubin, it was dry, the coleslaw on it was flavorless and so was the Russian dressing. The majority of the flavor was from the rye bread and salt i put on it.
At this cost i have to try it again, maybe they make a killer burger or something i haven't noticed.
The Irish Pub more than deserves an upgrade to 5 stars! It's still my favorite bar in the city, and I've yet to find anything I don't love about it.
The bartenders are friendly and all-around good guys. The food is delicious above average pub fare: wings, St. James potatoes, lollipop meatballs, and the grilled chicken caesar salad are my favorites.
This is usually where boyfriend and I end the night; it's like coming home! The regulars are cool people, the drinks are strong and cheap, and there's a comforting predictability about The Irish Pub that makes this a failsafe. It's a guaranteed good time. And they're still open round the clock!
I love that the owner decorates for all holidays...just adds to the charm of my favorite local dive!! The atmosphere here is unbeatable and like most places, it's as fun as you make it.
All I've ever heard is people telling me how much they love this place. Â It's by the same owners as the Irish Pub in Philadelphia but looks much, much different. Â (The ones in Philly look cleaner and much more modern.) It's obviously a local bar-no fancy decor, no kitschy stuff, and it looks its age.
The good:
-Cheap food. Nothing is over $8.50 on the menu with quite a few options in the $4.50 range.
-Cheap drinks with tons of drink and food specials even on Friday and Saturday nights.
-Very accommodating. My group was 17 and they happily seated us without reservations or a call ahead.
-Not associated with any casinos-nothing touristy
The not so good:
-I understand it's an Irish pub but really not a single healthy option on the menu. Â If you have vegetarians in your group, you might want to skip it.
-The food (I got the fish and chips) was barely edible. Slightly burnt and no flavor.
-The non-alcoholic drinks are served in little plastic cups with the beer being served in soda glasses. Â Come on-we like our beers in real beer glasses!
I would keep coming back for the drinks. $8 beers and $12 cocktails at The Borgata and Trop gets old very fast.
With all the positive reviews of this place, I came in with pretty high expectations. I mean, you really can't get any more to the point with a name like "The Irish Pub."
Anyway, it was a beautiful, sunny day in A.C. and we decided to stop by here for lunch. It was still a little before noon, but there were already a decent amount of people there. We plopped ourselves down at the old-style wooden bar and my hopes started to fade a bit, mostly because the bartender seemed to have an attitude when we started asking about beers on tap and lunch menus. Okay, maybe it was because it was a Monday, maybe he was still recovering from the weekend or maybe his old lady doesn't treat him right. I don't know, but asking a bartender about beer and food  is usually not outside the norm, at least in my world. Then we had to pay him instantly, in cash, for our drinks.  O...K...
As we perused the lunch menu, the place really started to fill up, which was pretty impressive for a Monday. Granted, it was mostly senior citizens, which wasn't surprising considering how inexpensive the lunch menu selections were. I almost wondered if something was wrong with the food or if we were being had, but went with it regardless. Then we ordered from a separate bar waitress, who we also had to pay instantly, in cash. Does this place have an issue with walkouts or what? Â We both ordered the corned beef specials, which were pretty good, especially with the added coleslaw.
Before heading back out to the boardwalk, we stopped by their small gift shop to look at all the Irish Pub merchandise. Maybe it was the time of day or the apathetic service, but I have to say I wasn't overly impressed with this place. It wasn't horrible and it wasn't great. Good food/beer and cool atmosphere, but some of these people need to lighten up a little.
But hey, there's always next time.
The perfect balance for the general excess of a vacation weekend in AC. Highly recommended (especially the St James Potatoes and Corned Beef Special sandwich).
Open 24/7, very good bar food, guiness poured right, late night specials, and cheap prices. Friendly staff and good service.
I go here at least 6 times with my friends on our annual AC weekend.
This is easily our most loved establishment in the whole city, a peaceful resting place to just hang out, eat, drink, and talk after the partying and gambling that can be found everywhere else.
Keep doing what you're doing, Irish Pub, and we'll keep coming back.
Not sure if it was due to my hangover or not, but I had one hell of a lunch at the Irish Pub this past weekend!  My man and I were hurting a bit from liquid overindulgence (and freezing from the cold) so we decided to stop in and enjoy some Irish pub cuisine.  I loved the décor of this place.  It was tastefully kitschy and there was a lot to look at.  Lots of historic prints (both newspaper and otherwise) on the walls, and it was decorated for Halloween as well (wreathes complete with orange lights). It was just enough without being sensory overload.
We ordered the fish and chips, the pastrami on rye, and a heaping plate of steak fries smothered in cheese. Â The fish and chips were fabulous. Â The batter, the texture, everything. Â The pastrami was fresh, delicious, and served on two pieces of the freshest rye bread I've ever tasted in my life. Â One oddity...they serve you water in plastic cups. Â Why is that? Â The sodas come in regular glasses, however, the water comes in small plastic cups. Â I guess it's in case you want to take it to go? Â
This is the type of bar that my Irish counterpart could spend the entire day in, drinking himself silly and watching football. Â He would have led me over to the bar to knock back a few, had we both been in better shape.
The Irish Pub is easy to find...it is located right off the boardwalk. Â Just keep an eye out for the smiling guy wearing the sandwich board. Â You can't miss him!
Stopped here on a whim after strolling along the boardwalk. The atmosphere is cozy and what you'd expected from a Pub. Everyone was friendly and the placed was packed with happy faces.
We ordered an app of the meatballs and they were very tasty. We split fish and chips which was also tasty. We sat outside on a beautiful night and enjoyed a bit of people watching.
When you come off of the boardwalk, we were really surprised at how run down Atlantic City is - abandoned buildings and such. That part was rather disappointing and didn't make for that pleasant of scenery but all in all, it was a nice place to grab a bite. We had an app, entree and 2 drinks for $23! Good price in my book!
I'm trying really, really hard to find something I dislike about this place but I just cannot do it. Â It is a spacious, welcoming, clean establishment with a kickass wood bar and friendly staff. Â If college-saturated, gimmicky bars have jaded you against Irish bars, I would suggest you give The Irish Pub in AC a try to see if they can win you back.
Jack the bartender did one of those shamrock froth designs in my Guinness. Â It was one of those little bits of effort that really makes all the difference.
I have no comments regarding the food, as I paid this place a visit only to have a beer.
I love this spot and stop in EVERY time I am in AC, sometimes even more then once. I love love love this, the prices are great (no plastic, but there is an ATM machine)
Dark wood, plenty of old fashioned Irish/Scottish/Wales, etc nationalism.
We had fun reading the old newspaper clippings, as well.
Check out the specials of the day (usually awesome offerings-example on the day I was there-Sheppards pie, with garlic mashed potatoes or pulled pork sandwich.
Although I always seem to end up with the chicken sandwich.
Lovely Irish Coffee, cheap beer, local color. I have been going here for years and will continue to do so for many more to come!
(also check out the rooms to let-v. cheap!)
There are three things to rate Irish bars on: 1.) Their burger 2.) Their beer 3.) The decor/atmosphere/patrons
1.) Irish Pub's burger? You can get a better burger at McDonalds.
2.) How can an Irish bar not. have. HARP!
3.) This place did have a cool atmosphere. It was so packed, we barely got a table at lunchtime on a Saturday. But I don't know why people go here, it can't be for the food or beer! Tourists, maybe?
This place really is a total dive. Â And I love it.
The food is simple. Â So what? it's cheap!
The bar is ancient and the people weird.
Locals and sorta locals and ppl who've stumbled
upon it for one reason or another (runnin from the cops?).
Doesn't suck to stop in if you're on the boards and see the
guy wearing a sign. Â I'd stumble back if I were in the area.
Cheapest dinner I've had in a while! Â $5 for a carved turkey sandwich and steak fries. $3.50 Sam Adams winter lager. Â Can't beat it. While I didn't have any, Killians was $1.50 a pint! Â Not on special mind you... these were normal nightly prices.
Irish Pub is dim and divey, but a great place to eat before hitting the casinos. Â It looks like it hasn't been renovated or redecorated in decades (not that this is a bad thing). Â The food and drinks are beyond fairly priced and the service is quick and friendly. Â My sandwich wasn't huge, but it was tasty.
It was pretty dead when we went, but take into account it was Christmas eve eve (or Dec. 23), so all of AC was pretty dead. Â That just made it easier for the 8 of us to be seated and get food!
I'd definitely come back here for a meal and a pint before hitting the town. Â $10 goes a lot further here than it does at the craps table.
If Las Vegas, Reno, and Santa Cruz had a test tube baby, it would turn out to be Atlantic City. It is filled with the large casinos of Vegas, infested with the older gambler types of Reno, and all of this is on a strip overlooking a dirty beach with really cold water that reminds me of Santa Cruz.
One of the bright spots of my experience here was the 24-hour Irish Pub called "Irish Pub." The owners definitely don't get any stars for creativity.
After shopping at the local outlets for La Novia, it began to get dark and I needed to start my walk back to other end of the strip where my hotel was. Unfortunately, the ocean wind was blowing really hard against me and it was super cold.
Annoyed, I mid a pit stop here to have a quick shot and sip on a beer so I could have a slight buzz for my walk back. It's in a touristy part of town, but off the strip, so it has a hidden, dive bar look from the outside. The inside has pretty nice lighting and cool looking roundish bar. I ordered a shot of Jameson and Guinness. The shot went down smooth and the beer even smoother. And for a total of $9.50 for my shoot and beer, it was smooth enough to merit another round or two.
Bartender was quiet, but attentive. As for the bar patrons, there was a definite mixed crowd. It was filled with a few tourists and several Jersey locals were friendly. I eavesdropped on them as they talked crap about the people they went to high school with in the late '80s and early '90s. Eventually, I started talking to some bikers that gave some advice on Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, motorcycles, and love.
I would have stayed longer, but I had to meet my dad and uncle for dinner. And well, the walk back was as windy and cold as ever.
But at least I was buzzed this time.
Cheap beer, decent (cold) sandwiches, horrible horrible horrible service. Â Our first waitress poured water all over my buddy and barely apologized. Â She brought us napkins but just sort of stood there and watched as everyone else at the table cleaned up. Â
The second waitress screwed up our order and didn't apologize at all.
I'd advise not to get anything here that sounds greasy, eg: cheesesteak, fish and chips, unless you are ready for a spectacular amount of grease, but the corned beef and club sandwich were great for 5 bucks.
Large Budweiser drafts are 1.90 though, which is great.
Normally I wouldn't give a place with such bad service four stars, but given the price of the food and the hilariously tacky decor, you pretty much know what you're getting into the second you see the place.
During an impromptu visit to Atlantic City I had the pleasure of visiting the Irish Pub. I got there at midnight, and had a few beers. I'm pretty sure that they were relatively cheap, but I was too distracted by the authentic live leprechaun that was working the gift shop. Dressed in green with pointy ears and a reddish beard, the proprietors apparently bus this jolly man in from the emerald isle itself; a place called Port Richmond, Philadelphia. He was there at midnight, and then when we stopped in again at 7am he was still present, albeit a tad drunker. It was awesome, and by awesome I mean depressing.
Anyway, the place has cheap drinks, and is open 24/7. The food is terrible, so don't even try to eat here. Apparently there are also rooms for rent above the bar, and one of these days I'm going to stay there. So if you are like me and find yourself wandering around Atlantic City wearing a tie dyed AC hoodie and looking for somewhere thats not a casino to get a drink at 7 am, this is the place to go.
believe it or not my inlaws took my nearly 4 year old daughter here last fall when we visited AC. Â She had "mini meatballs" and really enjoyed them.
The food was cheap and plentiful, but this just is not my kinda place - and not really a place to take a young child.
It's a BAR,
Whatever.
Pretty much the only reason i go to atlantic city. located on a wonderful, dirty, gritty little side street, almost hidden from the mean streets.
Inside is beautiful, all the dark wood, the copper ceiling, old Irish ads and posters and boxing matches. During the summer there are many pretty european waitresses who don't really mind if you fuck with them a little bit.
The food is my favorite. The wings are great. The pub salad, a huge bowl for 3.95. What a deal. The steer burger comes with fries. Everything is a bargain. I always overeat and ruin any chances of getting drunk. But oh well, that's the price i'll always pay for a place that'll always have my heart.
Ah, the Irish Pub...or just "The Pub"
My favorite bar that is still in existance. The pub will always have a special place in my heart and it's where I want my wake to be held when I die.
Bartenders that will keep in you line and let you know when you fuck up. Waitresses that will help you out when you need it and cheese fries that will keep you going when you have to.
Everything is cheap and they're open 24/7. No food after 3 am though.
If you've visited Atlantic City recently and have seen leprechauns on the boardwalk, don't worry...They're only there to advertise an Atlantic City landmark -- The Irish Pub.
A dark, old pub, complete with copper ceilings, The Irish Pub is a must-see. Â Drinks are cheap. Â The food's even cheaper. Â Don't believe me? Â Well, check this out:
- Nothing on the menu is more than $7.95!
- The beers are $3.00 or less. Â Cocktails are $3.95!
- $1.95 lunch specials are offered every single day.
- Dinner specials will run you $5.95, including a soup and a salad.
- Heck -- you can even get a room at the "Victorian Inn" above the bar for as low as $20 a night! Â Talk about a bargain.
My wife, however, isn't really a big fan of the place. Â She's not a drinker and she's a borderline vegetarian and when we go to bars, they darned-well better feature a great menu. Â Unfortunately, the menu at The Irish Pub is rather small, with very little meatless variety. Â
Since we discovered Ri Ra at the Tropicana (with its large and varied menu), we haven't been back to this place. Â And that's a shame, because The Irish Pub is one of the most charming old-school pubs around (especially in Atlantic City). Â And you certainly can't beat the prices!
(Oh. Â And as far as my memory serves me, The Irish Pub only accepts cash. Â No credit cards!)
