Did I go on an off day??

Today I was invited to visit Lancaster and my lunch date recommended we meet here - okay. I'm game.

I ordered the "I forget" which means I can't remember the name of it. What I CAN remember is that it was a chicken breast with buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, onions, Swiss cheese, and spinach.

The sandwich comes, and I had to do a double take - either I was a giant visiting a distant land or this was one of the smallest sandwiches I'd ever ordered.

I popped off the alleged "pretzel" roll  and gazed down - immediately it occured to me that the last time I saw a breast that deflated was in the 8th grade coat room at Our Lady of the Worthless Miracle.

It DID come with an ocean of potato chips, but $8.95 for a sandwich that looked more  like a slider? No, no, no. I will not be going back. I could slide into Chick-Fil-A and get a gay-hating number one with awesome waffle fries and a coke for $5.99 - here, I'm getting a tire dipped in Buffalo Sauce on a roll for the Oompa Loompas.

No thank you, Isaac. Also, you should REALLY take "deli" off your name!

Went with a friend for lunch. Creative, excellent sandwiches, and my recommendation would be a Yellow-bellied Sap Sucker. Some neat options for a deli/sandwich meal.

Isaac's is a small chain with delicious and unique sandwiches.  The starter is always pickles and carrots.  My favorite sandwich is the Salty Eagle, and the chips that come on the side are very good.  The restaurant is casual and the decor is colorful and funky.  It's bright and there are big open windows.  There's also seating outdoors.  The prices for food are reasonable and the food's consistently good.

This used to be one of the best places for a great craft brew, but it seems that they have knocked back on their beer selection and added some bland options instead like miller light.  Slightly disappointed.  They do still have my favorite drink though which is the perfect pickle martini, if you like dill pickles, you have got to try this one.  Try the artichoke dip if you need something to munch on besides the dish of dill pickle mix they offer you, it is quite delicious and full of flavor.

The staff is always friendly, and if you manage to go on a slower night they definitely know how to keep your attention and keep the conversation flowing as though you're an old friend visiting, rather that a recent stranger who just happened to stop by.

It is a slight disappointment that the bar is so hard to see from the window.  It is only 1/2 a block away from the convention center, but unless someone told you they had a bar, you wouldn't know because you can't see it.

So I said to myself,  I am hungry I think it is time for lunch.  I asked my local friend,  "Hey Kali, I am hungry and I want a solid lunch; where should we go?"  After a few Jedi mind tricks I suddenly appeared at Isaac's.  This place is solid, not too much flair but it has some character, which is good.  I was told the soup is very good but I had an avocado bell pepper salad.  It was good and I appreciate the creativity of meal.  All in this entire place was solid.  If I needed to play it safe this would be a solid place to go.  However, I have an adventurous palette and would probably end up trying something new before I came back.  Solid? Yes.

It's Isaacs with beer (and at a damned good Happy Hour price, too!) love that Scarlet Ibis with a Springhouse draft. Service is good despite crowds, and they have been very accommodating to our roller derby league, which has a stand there on First Fridays.

    UPDATE: 1/10/08
Isaac's corporate in its wisdom decided that deli sandwiches and alcohol go together and applied for a liquor license at this location. I absolutely disagree with this decision but wont reduce the number of stars just yet..

    ---------
Mmm, bird of paradise, my fav.

    ----------

FOOD: I got my usual Isaacs sandwich, a bird of paradise. Compared to my fav Isaacs on Manheim Pike, its not as good even tho its the exact same sandwich. Go figure.

DECOR: It doesnt feel quite as light and airy as some of the other locations, its more cozy feeling i think. Its still got the bird art and mobiles hanging around tho..

SERVICE: Good. The friendly waiter came by often and earned his tip.

    ----------

WOULD I GO BACK? Not unless I was walking by or happened to be there. Its just not convenient for me. And theres no place to park that I noticed.
