I REALLY wish I could have given this restaurant 4 or 5 stars seeing as they allow smoking (including cigar and pipe) at their tables (in a designated area) and were some of the most friendly and welcoming staff I've ever encountered at a restaurant; unfortunately, the quality of the steak forces my hand to award nothing greater than 3 stars.

Upon arriving, Martinez [not too sure on the name] - the hostess -was incredibly nice and discussed with the manager, Brian, about fitting me into the smoking section so I could smoke my cigar while enjoying dinner.  Seeing as they were out of tables, they brought one in just to accommodate my request.  This was the first sign that Binion's really knows customer service, especially since I was dining alone and was not gambling (I came exclusively for smoking and eating).

The waitress, Erin, was exemplary with a great deal of help and knowing exactly when to stop by to check-in without being overbearing.  Yet again Brian came to the rescue by providing me with the last remains of a delicious 15 year-old Macallan scotch (please note that their Scotch Selection was EXTREMELY limited and, quite frankly, disappointing for a steak house).

Now, to the main portion: the steak, which was cooked medium, was of similar quality to something purchased at a grocery store and NOT what I would expect for $32.  Good creamed spinach and good caesar salad but the steak was just so disappointing that I continue to waver as to whether or not to return.  Most likely I will just to smoke while eating, but if they could offer higher quality meats I would make it my #1 in a heartbeat!

Went last Sunday after a profitable trip in the casino :-)  Had the 32oz Porterhouse along with a baked potato and button mushrooms.  The sides were really good and big enough to share with someone else.  The steak for $60 was a little overpriced for what you got but was still tasty.  Service was excellent and I'm sure the view would have been nice had it not been a cloudy day/night.  Being able to use Total Rewards credits at "one for one" is a big plus, looking forward to going back.

For what you pay......  Better luck in casino.  Medium filet with charcoal crust. Service was good though.  More like Jack Bunion's.

I have been everywhere from to Bourbon Steak in DC, CUT in Beverly Hills, and Peter Luger in NY. I have also been to chains like Outback, Longhorn, and Applebees. Even hit up a few Brazillian steakhouses. This place, kind of sucks compare to ALL of those. Yes, ALL. Including Applebees. Yes, you could cut the steak like butter, but a good steak will also TASTE like butter, not like nothingness. Spinach was overly bitter, potatoes lyonnaise was extremely salty, champagne chicken was flavorless and dry. Not sure how you go wrong with fries, but they managed.

On the bright side, Calamari was cooked just right and the french onion soup was delicious.

We went to the Horseshoe Casino for a show and decided to eat at the steakhouse since there aren't really too many options for a nice meal in Hammond.  We had a reservation for 6:00 but arrived by 5:30 and were seated promptly.  The restaurant has a nice, old men's club sort of feel to it.  It's somewhat dark, but light enough to read the menus (if you need that like I do), with a lot of dark wood on the walls and ceiling.  The chairs are very comfortable but a little low for the table - this is important to a person who's 5'4", but my 5'10" boyfriend also felt a bit short.
I was surprised at the selection of wines.  There was more than enough options by the glass, so I didn't feel like I was settling.
We both started with a house salad.  I had the blue cheese dressing and my boyfriend had thousand island.  We both felt that the dressings were lacking any real flavor.  I order blue cheese dressing because I like blue cheese and I expect to taste it in the dressing.
For my entree, I ordered the special - blackened grouper with sauteed spinach and sun-dried tomatoes.  Although the grouper was tasty, there was nothing about it that I would call blackened.  The color was brown, not black, and the intense flavor of the blackening spices wasn't there.  Again, it was good, but tasted more like a pan sauteed grouper rather than a blackened grouper.  The spinach was excellent.
My boyfriend ordered the prime rib, end cut.  He really enjoyed his entree.  However, the lighting was such that it was difficult to see what he was eating.  Prime rib is a fatty cut of meat and, unless you like the taste and texture of fat, you need to be able to see what you're about to put into your mouth.  The steaks are ala carte, and he didn't order a side.  Why do restaurants always make the ala carte side dishes so large?  He didn't want to eat a serving of veg. that was intended for 2, so he didn't order anything.
All in all, I would eat there again. The total bill for 2 house salads, 2 entrees, and 3 glasses of wine was $104.
(As a side note, when we left the restaurant around 7:00, the place was packed and there were about 20 people waiting for a seat.  Definitely make a reservation if you plan to eat before a show.)

The reason why I gave it a 2 was because the service was very good and the view is fun! The wine list rests on its old Wine Spectator review laurels, which didn't even list bottle sizes or years with wines priced almost four times retail in some cases.  The crab cake was nice, as well as the French onion soup but the bread basket had to have been recycled from yesterday. As for the steaks , they had a grey hue and were sub par, you are going to get a better steak at Outback.

While in the process of writing another review about a steakhouse in NY, I was reminded about my visit to Jack Binion's at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, In. Three letters....O.M.G! I've been to a lot of steakhouses, all of which I have not yet put on Yelp, but this is one of the best, if not THE best steakhouse I have ever been to. I LOVE Jack Binion's in Hammond, In. I have yet to visit the one in Vegas but it is on my list. The steaks are larger than the plates that they serve them on. My steak was cooked to perfection and was very juicy, flavorful and tender. Everything at Binion's is a la carte, so be prepared to pay, pay, and pay some more. Very pricey, but worth every penny. Took a friend here for his birthday and we were truly in food heaven! There's also a great view that overlooks the harbor since this is a riverboat casino restaurant. Binion's has one of the largest wine lists that I've seen at a restaurant  and the service is fantastic. I have only been one time, and after writing this review, I probably should make a reservation and go back! Here's hoping that it has not changed.

Great service, wonderful view and the food is amazing.  The portions are huge; we ordered the Artichoke app and it could have feed 4-6 people.  The sides are also large and easily share between two or more.  Great wine list.

This is the 2nd time we've stopped here, the 1st time during restaurant week when they have special prix fixe meals and then again last night because we had some certificates to use.  There weren't many patrons but it was Good Friday and it's a steakhouse and it was a little early for the gambling crowd.

The complimentary bread was delicious.  We started off with fried calamari ($10), the portion size generous and very well cooked.  I ordered the prime rib, an enormouse 16 oz cut ($26).  Steaks are served a la carte so be sure to order sides if you want them, we got the garlic, rosemary fries ($6).

We didn't read our $50 certificates carefully, only food was covered so we were actually $26 under our total when the bill came so we called the waitress back over and got three desserts to go ($9).  The desserts were good but a little skimpy for $9, at least the key lime pie was.  The cheesecake was a good size portion for two but nothing extraordinary.  Cocktails at $10 were reasonable considering you pay a lot more in Chicago for the same or smaller drink.

The view is great if you get a window table overlooking the marina.  One view is of the refineries, I think if you are seated on the other side you should be able to see the Chicago skyline.

Service was attentive.  For those of us in Northwest Indiana this is a great alternative to going downtown, paying to park, giving the tollway $7 for the privilege of using the Skyway and having to drive 55 because of the speed traps, not to mention paying higher prices downtown.  I can't remember the last time I got out of Morton's, Joe's etc with a food tab of less than $100.

The view was great and the service was too - but the food was nothing special - bland, not very good in appearance, and overpriced.  Dont see what all the fuss is about.

Stopped in for an impromptu dinner before a boxing match last night. Despite not having reservations, staff happily got us a table and accommodated the fact that we were in a bit of a hurry. The food was prepared fast as requested and our server Ryan was amazing and went above and beyond to make sure we stayed on schedule...all while dealing with one of those "anything you do for me is gonna suck and I'm going to demand to speak with a manager for a free dessert" kind of tables across the restaurant.

I'll be craving that wedge salad, the rosemary garlic potatoes and the tuna tartar for quite some time.

My hubby and I were pleasantly surprised by this place. We were seated right by the window. A perfect view of lake Michigan. It was our anniversary, this was a nice touch. We had a wonderful waitress. I think her name was Diane. She is just the kind of waitress you want in a fine dining rstaurant. Now keep in mind this is not a cheap restaurant so I do think customer service is just as important as the food itself. Some of you yelpers may agree it can be a deal breaker. Now onto the food. They start you off with this nice size platter of assorted breads, crackers, whipped butter and a cheese spread my husband loved. We ordered the fried calamari for an app. It was good, not the best I've ever had but still good. I will say the balsamic vinegrette on the salad was awesome. I ordered a salmon with a mustard sauce.  It was so good. My hubby had the fillet ,he loved it. We each had a baked potato. These are perhaps the largest baked potatoes I have ever seen. They give you all the fixings on the side. This includes real bacon bits and cheddar cheese! We were stuffed. Our waitress then surprised us by bringing out a very large piece of their cheesecake, she even had them write happy anniversary in chocolate on the plate! We were already stuffed so we force fed ourselves a few bites each. It was sooo good! I'm not sure what the bill was, he wouldn't tell me but it was well worth it. This place is located inside the Horseshoe casino building. So if you're feeling lucky go do a little gambling while you're there.

this is a very well priced steakhouse, one of the best for the price range. I was very impressed with the quality of the meats in the price range. They did change their menu recently taking out some of my favorites like the 16OZ bone-in Filet. :-(

It is all good untill you go and sit on a table and loose thousands!!!

This experience was like having your head in the oven and your feet in the freezer: on average, you're ok.  It started with reservations made weeks prior for the evening of the Jeff Dunham show (9/24/2011).  We came right on-time but were told 5 more minutes.  Then it was 15 more.  Then another 15. *40* minutes later we were seated, with a bit over an hour before the show.

We saw that we couldn't order appetizers and just ordered our meals.  The food was probably ok, but that's because we couldn't taste as fast as we were wolfing it down!  Our waitress was nice, but she is neither the front of the house nor a chef; she did her best.  The free desserts we couldn't finish didn't make-up for the all the lost time!!!

Jack Binion's really came through and provided a great meal. Me and a buddy stopped in here before we went to The Venue to see the boxing matches. The place is great. We had a view overlooking Lake Michigan and a menu that left us thoroughly satisfied. Succulent steak, creamed spinach, decadent potatoes au gratin, full-bodied wine and finished off with a humungo slice of cheese cake. The food is definitely on par with the classic steakhouses I've been to. The only downside I have about this place is the staff is a little less polished than the service I experience in the city. This translated into spotty dishes and lackluster service.

I meant to write this review quite awhile ago so it will be short and I promise to update on a return visit.  We occasionally visit Horseshoe Casino when we are in between Vegas visits and need a little casino fix.  We ALWAYS dine at the finer restaurants in these type of casinos and I will say that Jack Binion's was one of the better choices.  We had steak and lobster and it was pretty darn close to perfection.  I remember the salads and sides were comparable to Ruth Chris, Morton's, etc. - good but not remarkable.  The service was extremely nice and the wine selection exceeded my expectations.  The star here is the steak and the lobster was also very, very nice.  We will be dining here again on our next visit to Horseshoe.

i've been to a lot of the famous steakhouses in chicago and yet i think jack binion's is my favorite.  now usually i love sides, jb's doesn't do a great job with sides.  the truffle fries aren't that impressive.  it's all about the steaks here.  the bone in rib eye for 35 or 40 is to die for!  i've tried the wagyu sampler and it was truly a different level of meat eating.  morton's, joe's stone crab, smith and welensky all of those rib eyes are good, but kind of blend in my mind.  the bone in rib eye here is simply out of this world.  i've had the oysters here and i thought they were a rip off.  i don't give out 5 stars easily, and this place doesn't knock it out of the park for everything, but the steak makes up for it.  skip the sides.  skip desert.  just get more steak!

I'm not a fan of buffets so this place is a welcome change however I wouldn't go out of my way to come here for the food. The lobster bisque soup and truffle fries are my go to choices to order at this place. (I'm a sucker for truffle fries.) But considering it's a steak house, I would have expected more. Don't get me wrong, my filet mignon wasn't horrible but it wasn't spectacular. I've had better.

On the plus side, the service was excellent, and it usually isn't crowded.

If you happen to be stuck at the Horseshoe in Hammond Indiana, this is the best restaurant to go to. Since I was so close to New England, I had to get lobster bisque. This is one of my favorite soups. Theirs was about a 7 out of 10 on my lobster bisque scale (based on the bell curve so may vary compared to your tastes buds). I couldn't decide on steak so I got the signature steak tasting plate. It included Nebraska USDA Prime Grade Spinalis (its the top part of a pot roast and looks like skirt steak), American Wagyu "Eye" of Rib and Japanese "A-5" "Eye" of Rib (A-5 from what I've learned is the highest grade of Kobe beef). The American wagyu was my favorite. I always get my steak cooked medium well so it always comes burnt (the burnt parts are really unhealthy for you, like cancer causing unhealthy). So after I cut off all the black part there wasn't too much steak left. All the desserts were standard so I didn't get any. It was an alright dinner.

This is a toughie for me.  The decor is pretty impressive for it's location and might even manage to make you forget that you are in fact, at the Horseshoe Casino.  The service was attentive and friendly enough, so that's good.  Now to the food -

Food was good.  We tried a variety of things: trio steak sampler, which included wagyu, kobe and something else.  All excellent with Kobe probably taking the crown.  The portions were smaller, but still filling.  The three steaks probably totalled close to 10oz in weight.  Not too shabby for quality meats.  Mine was just a little on the colder side.  Boo.  Take away one star.

The lobster bisque and shrimp dish were excellent.  But holy moly the bisque was huge and just a tad less creamy than I like - no biggie.  But since 3 out of the 4 in our group ordered it, it was a bit much.  Waiter could have mentioned that, IMO, since one was my hubby and the other was my mom and two of us could have shared.  Not his priority, but would have been a nice touch.  Minus another star.

The 20oz Kansas steak was super yummy and HUGE!  Very flavorful and warm - it's rare that I get jealous of my hubby's order as I like to think I have good taste (hehe), but there I was drooling over his monster of a steak.  But it came out a bit pinker than he likes so that's not good, but no complaints since I like it that way and got more to share.  To be fair, that should be one star off, but the flavor makes up for it.  Oh and the sides are huge and tasty, which I liked.

So all in all, it's a nice change from the buffet, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here...prob ever.  My momma is pretty VIP in that joint (sshhh) so our meal was comped...so there's a possiblily I'd be back and I'd still be pretty excited to check out other items.  I'd say a solid 3.5 stars in my book.

Loved it here gorgeous dining area with beautiful view of Lake Michigan. Started the meal with a nice bread basket with assorted rolls cheese and butter. Had the best crab cake I've ever eating in my freaking life as the appetizer, and the main course was a tender steak that sliced  like butter and a baked potato.

I attempted to eat at Jack Binion's last night. We had a reservation for 4 people and showed up early to let them know that we would actually have 5 people and asked if that was okay. The host responded with a very rude, "no!" After acting completely annoyed he told us that we would probably have to wait a long time and wandered off. We looked into the empty restaurant and saw a ton of open tables and then went over to the bar to wait. The bartender asked what we would like and we requested to see the wine list. She made an audible, "ugh" and then walked away shaking her head. We were shocked! Since when is it not okay to ask for a wine list at a bar in a "fancy" steak house? The rude, unaccommodating host and asshole bartender were enough to make us decide not to drop $50 on a steak at this turd of a restaurant . I'm sure our group of 5 would have spent over $500 here. No restaurant in this economy can afford to abuse their customers and lose business, especially one in Hammond, Indiana that is located in a craptastic casino. I'm just sad that we missed the view of Lake Michigan with the industrial factory spewing smoke in the background. I was really looking forward to it...

The food is really good.  Call and get a reservation, my wife and I wanted to eat here and were so determined we sat at the bar for our dinner and sat next to a chain smoking couple for the first 20 minutes (very friendly people though).  I'm unsure if the restaurant is smoking/non-smoking.  The service must have had an off night.  The bar area was packed and the one bartender did her best to provide great service, the service fell short though.  We did not get the appetizers we ordered, our entrees were terrific when they came.  My wife was deligthed with the filet she ordered.  She said it was the best one she ever had.  I had the perch which my chain smoking friends told me about prior to their departure.  It was delicious but when I got home later that night I was sick for over an hour.  We would go back if we had reservations.  Gorgeous views of Lake Michigan from the dining area.

Well well, where do I begin?

Went to Jack Binion's with the girlfriend in honor of Restaurant Week. The atmosphere/decor are nice enough, but that is where it ends.

Found out that the Restaurant Week "menu" consisted of an eight-ounce filet, baked potato, house salad, and dessert (cheesecake). Not impressed with an 8-ounce steak and potato for $32, I decided to get something off the normal menu while my girlfriend got the Restaurant Week deal.

I went with the 16-ounce Prime Rib of Beef. The menu certainly makes it sound good:

"Our 28 day wet age process allows the meat to essentially marinade in its own juices breaking down the toughness and accentuating the true beef flavor."

I ordered medium rare, as always. What I got was the most bland, lifeless, frankly disgusting cut of steak I have ever seen, cooked until there was not a HINT of pink throughout the entire thing. The color was a grayish-brown, and it was marbled throughout with thick, tough fat/connective tissue. No hint that it had ever seen a grill. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if it had been cooked at some point in the last week and microwaved upon my ordering it. For $31 for a steak and baked potato, let's just say I was hoping A-1 sauce wouldn't need to make an appearance all night. This steak looked so unappealing when it reached our table that I promptly asked for some.

The girlfriend's filet looked/tasted much better. Only one problem: she ordered medium well, as always, and the middle of her steak was BLOOD RED. Bordering between rare and medium rare. I do not mind blood in my steak, but what she got was a bit much for even me. It was certainly too much for her.

So why didn't we just send them back? Well, we would have, had our waitress approached our table to inquire about the meal even ONCE after the food was brought out. I must stress at this point that the restaurant was not at all packed. There were empty tables all around us. We could not help but notice that she did approach the nearest table a few times to inquire about the quality of their food several times. Surprise, surprise, one of their steaks was overdone and sent back.

Another nice touch came when they brought her salad out. The waiter, a different one, asked if she would like some freshly-ground pepper. She said yes, please. He promptly disappeared, never to be seen again. Classy, Jack Binion's. Very classy.

Anyway, by the time the waitress did come back to get our plates out of the way (again, not asking about the food), we wanted nothing more than to leave. Suffice to say, the tip reflected her performance.

It is my opinion that once a place like Fogo de Chao or Texas de Brazil starts serving outstanding steak in an all-you-can-eat-for-$50 setting, $30 for a moderately sized steak and baked potato should at least ensure a good cut of meat cooked to order on a grill. Jack Binion's disagrees. I will not be coming back.

We love everything about this restaurant.  From the food, service, and circuses, it is 5 star all the way.  The only down side is that in such an upscale environment, the patrons could dress MUCH better.  Come on folks, lets have the diners look as good as the restaurant!

Used to be better. I don't know if they have had cut backs on the staff or the quality of the food - but this place used to get 5 stars every time I have eaten there. Now... not so much.. I don't know if they can still say "world class" about their food, perhaps best steak on Calumet!

Anthony was the host that took care of us, Great guy and what you would expect for a "world class" steakhouse on the standpoint of customer service. A chef, I think his name was Tom, came out and was making rounds. The view was amazing for North West Indiana...

I've lived in Northwest Indiana for over 30 years, and no restaurant in the "Region" can compare to Jack Binions.  They serve Chicago quality cuts of beef with awesome service and an incredible view.  Sure it's a bit expensive if you don't have a comp, but it's priced no higher than the finer steakhouses in the city.

The view of Lake Michigan is incredible.  Service is very attentive from the bussers to the servers.  The bar pours generous drinks and the wine list is outstanding.  Try the new Vintage 51 wine.  One of the nicest Cabernet's you ever taste at a give away price.

They serve a 21 menu from 4-6 Monday to Thursday.  It includes a salad, entee' side and dessert for $21.  It's an outstanding value if you like to dine early.

Manager Dan has has great team who will make your dining experience memorable.

Went here on a nice night out and it definitely fit the bill. The menu had whatever I would expect at a steakhouse. This is a really great looking place, and the service was top notch. There was a minor mistake forgetting the GF's side dish but that was quickly corrected.
We started our order with the Lobster bisque, which was the best I've had so far ,great, but I have only had it a handful of times. The Tuna tartare was very good, with hints of spicy mayo really adding to the dish. The blue point oysters were great, some of the best oysters I've eaten. As my entree I ordered the prime rib, a personal favorite, and I found it very good and among the best I've tried so far. My date ordered the perch, which I thought was good but fairly ordinary. The asparagus on the side was perfect, great. Sadly, I couldn't do desert because I couldn't fit in another morsel of food with a crowbar. I would readily come back here for a special occasion or whenever I had the bucks to afford a fancy ass night out.

Hello,  FOOD SNOB HERE.  This is a hard one to critique.   When walking in you think you were in a elegant downtown Chicago restaurant.   It is elegant,  the two male matrides at the front are very welcoming.  The view of Lake Michigan and downtown Chicago were romantic.   The foie gras appetizer was a little over priced at $18.  Yes foie gras is expensive but I mean it was two bites on toast.    I had the fried calamri that was OK but not as good as an Italian place.  The soup was FANTASTIC.   French Onion with cheese melting over the top.  Lobster Bisque tasted so fresh.   I just had one problem with the side dishes.  They are TOO BIG.  They shoud lower the price and give you less because nobody can finish.   Also the asparugus side was bland and not fully cooked and not trimmed as should be.   The lobster macaroni and cheese was a little to rich for me.   This all seemed more like comfort food.   I give this 4 stars because of the atmosphere,  and all the steaks are top of the line even though a little more expensive then they should be.

We were impressed with this casino restaurant. From the chairs to the portions, everything at Jack Binion's is BIG!

It is obvious that there are quite a few comp-ted diners and most were dressed a bit too casual for an upscale restaurant.

We started with a gigantic bread basket that came with butter and a wine Cheddar cheese spread. I had the prime rib and it was great. Rare and juicy and well seasoned. A side of garlic onion mashed potatoes and asparagus were perfect accompaniments. Mom had the oyster appetizer and lobster bisque - both very, very good.

We had no room for salad or dessert. It seems a shame to have such large portions but the waitress offered to hold our food while we visited the casino.

We were seated by the window and enjoyed the lake view of Chicago and the steel mills. Hey, it is Northwest Indiana!

Dinner with tax, tip and three glasses of wine came to $100.00. Not bad for a steakhouse but Mom did only have soup and an appetizer.

    We'd visit Jack Binion's again.

The wine list was huge and had selections in all price ranges.

After a day of boozing at Power Plant Beach next door, we decided to stop in for dinner before hitting the tables. The decors is not much to speak of. It lacks a grand entrance/doors and is devoid of any windows. it's pretty much a mid-level hotel ballroom/conference room, much like Morton's on State. The service was top notch; we never lacked anything and the food was brought out at a comfortable pace. The appetizers -- scallops and jumbo shrimp -- were absolutely delicious. I had the bone-in cajun ribeye, a bit too fatty for my liking. But those who had the center cut filet or NY strip had nothing but positive things to say. The entrees include one side such as corn, wild rice, or potatoes (baked or au gratin). They're huge! They were like two of my regular meals. Don't bother getting any extra sides.

I'll be honest, I was not expecting a lot.
Was I surprised! This is a fine dining restaurant
(Despite the people in jean cut off shorts)
My boyfriend received a comp dinner for two and we took advantage last night.
The portions were a good size. Not overwhelming, but big, it is a steak house after all
I had the rack of lamb and it was amazing.
Service was attentive, but not pretentious.

I will definitely be back again.
