This place holds both free and ticketed concerts. Â It is a nice outdoor venue where you stand in a crowd and rock out. Â I've never been to an actual concert and have only gone when they've had free shows, so that is what my review is based on.
There is an outside bar and outside bathroom. Â The bathroom does not have many stalls, so don't wait till you really need to use it, in case there is a line.
There is a deck with a railing that is nice to lean against if you get tired, since it is standing room only. Â Even though everyone is standing, the stage is raised enough that you can see whoever is performing. Â
They really do have all types of performances here. Â It's nice on nights that they have free shows and you can wander over from wherever you started your night to get your groove on for a bit. Â It is honestly difficult to figure out on any given night if you need a ticket to get in, so just go ask the guy stamping hands. Â
This isn't a large venue by any means, but it can fit a decent number of people. Â Remember, it is outdoors so if it is raining, I would suggest going elsewhere.
Our first opportunity to vista Jannus Live was to see Grace Potter (who is phenomenal by the way.) Short version: this place is awesome and you will not regret coming.
The venue itself is very unique, sporting an indoor courtyard atmosphere (complete with full on tree in the middle) with standing room only and arguably not a bad seat in the house. Unless maybe you're short, and in that case, wear tall shoes and get there early. I can't help that I'm tall, and while I do find it humorous to listen to you call my man and I "giants", I feel a small amount of pity, but not enough to give up my good view that I got there early for.
A couple of the eateries that flank the Jannus have booths set up for food and drink. Most notably McDintons has a full on patio access into the venue (so long as you have tickets.) There are also cheap pizza stands, along with a full bar at McDinton's and some beer stands.
There is a VIP area which apparently encompasses the balcony area which runs one length of the venue and boasts an enviable view of the stage. Private suites of some sort are also present in the upper level although we did not get a chance to visit them this trip.
Bathrooms are located on site and are shared by McDinton patrons (hooray for no port-a-potty!)
Will call is just to the right of the main entry gate (near the ATM) in case you need to pick up tickets.
Parking is simple as the Jannus is located in downtown St. Petersburg, which also hosts a variety of nightlife and dining options. When the concert is over, exit through McDinton's and onto the street, as it allows for a quick escape without walking in the "herd".
This is an alright place to see a show. The problem is that it gets too crowded and is difficult to get drinks at times. I will definitely go back for the right show. Beer prices are $6 for a 16 ouncer. We had a good time at Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. I have also seen Steel Pulse here and that was a great show.
Review Source:Jannus rocks! I totally agree with Rachel...Block Party says it all. I've done VIP, Party Deck, & floor standing. I've seen it change hands and love the upgrades! The location is right in the hear of St Pete! Â It can't get better than this! Seen Better Than Ezra twice here and gearing up for Grace Potter! Let's rock!
Review Source:I LOVE Jannus, like in a really unfortunate, ridiculous, embarrassing kind of way. Â I see a ton of concerts and this is one of the best venues I have ever been to. Â
The atmosphere is what makes this place so fantastic. Â It is outdoors, yet feels intimate since it is in an alley right downtown St Pete. Â
The concerts are inexpensive compared to other venues in the Tampa/St Pete area (usually somewhere between free to about $30, depending on the popularity of the talent). Â There are also several bars, restaurants, and lounges within walking distance.
Recommendation: Go to Jannus immediately and have the best time ever.
I'm an outdoorsy kind of girl so I find this place to be a pretty cool venue. Yes, it is outdoors, and it has a great space to hold lots of people. I have to admit, I'm pretty claustrophobic. My idea of going to a bar, music venue, etc, and getting smooshed in, and feeling closed off with a bunch of strangers and liquor doesn't sound like fun to me. That is why I like this place, nice and open. Big huge stage for whomever the performer is. Â There are places around where there are random trees for shade, and to sit, and tables to sit if you want to, as well as wide open space. Â I've been here a couple times, the ones that I do remember I had a lot of fun. One was for a Cinco De Mayo party, and the other was for a DJ Contest. They always have different concerts, and events published on their website to let you know what's going on.
Review Source:This place is cool ... My first friday (when they close central ave to party every first friday of the month) was my first experience here the venue that night was free.  My hubby and I wandered around the corner and saw KISS, AC DC, and Queen tribute bands  .. It was high energy we didn't mind standing at all we were like second row and the people around us were fun as well no one got out of hand. Â
They get some pretty big entertainment here Cheap Trick was there at New Years 100$ all you can drink. Â Ziggy Marly, Blackfoot has also played this venue.
Give it a shot it is pretty incredible almost like a backyard party instead of a typical concert.
A badass place to see a live show!
How can you beat the location, outdoors - and right in the heart of downtown St Pete? The atmosphere is supremely chill inside, with a HUGE tree right in the middle of the venue.
Watching a hot band under the stars here, surrounded by the city (but in an oasis of sorts) is really cool. One of the better venues I have ever been to...and they sometimes even do free shows here.
The biggest negative here (and it's a big one) is the 'no re-entry' policy. Once you are in, you are in for the duration. It's draconian. It's also how they are able to do the free shows, sicne you are forced to buy all items (food, alcohol, water) from Jannus Inc.
I tend to hit the pregame a bit harder when going to Jannus Live for this reason. Where I might drink 2 beers prior then buy 4 beers inside at a regular venue, I do the opposite here.
Bottom line though, a fantastic place...with great sound and a killer vibe.
One of the best outdoor venues I have been to. This place is way better than what it was before the revamp. Hardly any line for the bathrooms, (which stay surprisingly clean throughout the night), the bartenders are quick at making drinks and rigging you up (so the lines move quickly) and every spot is a good spot to see the stage. Drink and food prices are very expensive inside so I suggest eating and drinking at a nearby bar before heading in.
Review Source:Neat outdoor concert venue. Â I have seen quite a few musicians play here before they got big. Â Normally you can attend a concert for $20-$30. Â There is no seating, but the atmosphere is fun and I don't mind standing and dancing to a band for a few hours. Â The beer is a ripoff, but every beer I have purchased at any concert has been a ripoff. Â My advice is to grab a pitcher at one of the nearby restaurants before the concert.
Quite a few restaurants and bars walking distance from Jannus so the party doesn't end at the end of the concert!
Visited this past weekend for the Bone- Thugs show and  had a blast. The stage is outdoors so check the weather before attending a concert. Tons of bars, a pizza stand to satisfy your post booze grease+cheese jones and several VIP balconies if you wanna be a big shot. Mind where you park your car as parking time limit on the street is 2hrs before 10pm spoil yourself and  park in a garage. There are plenty around.
Review Source:Jannus has really gotten great since the revamp. An awesome outdoor venue, small enough to where it's hard to get a bad spot to see everything but enough room to say, dance your ass off to Girl Talk (the most recent show I've seen there). The only issue I can see is that you have to watch out for the weather but that's something that usually doesn't stop me if I can prepare ahead (I drop my phone in a ziplock bag and I'm ready to brave any storm). Fair drink prices too!
Review Source:i've been to a few shows at jannus now since i moved to st pete a few months ago. Â there was an incredible social distortion show and a not-so-incredible led zepplin cover band (which was free so i ain't complainin') and i have thoroughly enjoyed myself both times.
the experience at jannus is totally dependent on the weather. Â good weather, great time. Â seriously, listening to live music outdoors on a gorgeous florida evening is probably one of the best ideas anyone has ever had. Â of course if it's cold; not such a great idea.
also, unlike outdoor amphitheaters jannus maintains the  vibe of a cool indoor music club while putting itself outside, which is pretty sweet, AND the acoustics are actually pretty damn good from anywhere in the venue for an outdoor place.
i also like that they do several free shows there. Â it's a cool gesture, even if they are sometimes mediocre cover bands (which are probably a lot more fun if you're drunk, i'll admit)
I first attended a concert in 1998 (I believe it was Soul Coughing) at this outdoor venue - after many repeat visits then a long absence for 5 years I was back for Vampire Weekend recently and Jannus Landing has been reborn as Jannus Live compete with real bathrooms and a VIP balcony. As much as the general odor is improved, it's hard not to miss that "I'm in an alley watching a show" vibe it used to have.
Review Source:Went to Jannus Live last night for the first time to see Sublime. The venue is in a cool area, with lots of shops and resturants/bars nearby. We parked in a nearby garage for $1 and had no trouble getting in or out after the show.
The venue itself is a big open air courtyard, which was great on a pleasant October night, but I can't imagine would be fun if it were raining or in August. There are several bars scattered around the perimeter, and a pizza place up near the entrance. The bathroom was also clean, which is always a plus at venues. I'd love to know one of the people in the neighboring apartments, they had a birds eye view for everything!
When we first got there the crowd wasn't too thick, so we could easily walk around (the main bar and guys bathroom is in the very back), and there was still breathing room close to the stage. By the time the opening band ended though, people were pushing their way closer and it was getting pretty packed. Being relatively short and female, my view kept getting blocked and it was getting really hot. If you're tall, I beg of you, remember us short people and don't stand front and center. You can see wherever you are, I can't, and I don't really feel like watching your sweaty back instead of the show. (Sorry, rant over).
Had the crowd been a bit smaller I would consider this place perfect. The sound and lighting were good, and the staff seemed really on top of things. However, I kind of felt like we were crammed in, and there wasn't much room to move. Maybe it was just that specific crowd, who knows, but I wouldn't want to watch a show in such a crammed space in the summer. I will totally go back though... probably for a smaller show, to compare the experience.
I must say that I am pleased with the newly renovated Jannus Live. Â Jannus Landing was awesome as it was, but the new ownership has definitely stepped up their game. Â It seems that the venue can fit more people in front of the stage and/or the view is less obstructive. Â Quite simply, this is the best outdoor venue to watch live music in the Tampa area.
Review Source:This place is awesome and unique and such a great venue. Â You really can't have a bad experience here unless it rains or something. Â No matter where you are, you have a great view and it's so easy to make your way right up against the stage. Â The sound has always been great as well.
Review Source:Jannus Landings is  the best place to see music in the Tampa Bay area simply because they bring in the best Musicians.  The outdoor venue is pleasant especially  when the weather is mild, and downtown St. Petersburg makes for  nice strolling before and after the show. Â
I wish Jannus Landings was in my backyard in Sarasota. Â
Happy Concert-Going!
As others have mentioned, great courtyard venue that is a pleasure to see shows at about 4-6 months out of the year. During the summer heat/humidity  and rain though, it's pretty miserable and I often pass on those concerts.  I only drink beer when I go there with it running $4-8 for  draught of domestic stuff, I can't comment on the price of mixed drinks.
Review Source:Good outdoor venue. Sometimes the music can carry away if the sound guy doesn't know what he's doing, but overall it sounds great there. It's been awhile since I've been there, but I remember that I was able to see the bands anywhere i was standing.
Great mid-range venue. They bring in some great bands in there, so get ready to rock.
Outdoor concert venue, standing room only, but there are a few benches towards the back. A lot of the shops along 1st ave open their back doors into Jannus Landing, so if you happen to walk into one of the stores sometimes you can sneak a peak at the band that's playing.
They typically serve alcohol, and a street vendor is more than likely on the corner outside selling random things. I've seen lots of great shows here, by myself and with friends. There's a tent that is over the stage and a huge pole in the crowd that holds the tent up. At some crazy shows I've seen teenagers and drunk 20 somethings attempt to climb this pole.
There's apartments on the stage side that overlook the courtyard (I wonder what they think of all the noise on weekends). Be sure to check out a local act that always comes through such as Donna and The Buffalo. Security is good. Bands normally park right outside on the street in their buses, I've seen people get autographs that way.
There is a lot across the street for parking, but I advise that you just use the Baywalk Garage less than a block away. Easier and probably safest place for your car.
As far as purchasing tickets, I'm not sure if they finally set up an office on 1st ave, but if you go in the Jannus Landing Liquor store right on the corner, you can buy most all concert tickets in there and not have to deal with Ticketmaster fees.
Really great cheap concerts are available here all the time! The main bummer is you have to stand the whole time. Which isn't really a problem for me. The venue is small enough so you are pretty close to the performers anywhere you go. I love the intimacy. It's good cheap fun and Janus Landing books some great gigs. Not the greatest sound quality but that's in the quality of the electronics anyhow. They sound good if they are good. And Pelican Pub is right around the corner ($3 a drink!).
Review Source:Great place for outdoor concerts and to find eternal happy hours at the Green Room! Â Located in downtown St. Pete, this place is always popping w/ great music coming through. If you dont' want to hear it loud and heavy - make sure to bring yoru earplugs or find another venue! Â Mostly find alt/indie rock bands come through here, but it has been known to host acts like Snoop Dog, etc.
