A great little restaurant tucked away at the executive airport. The menu was extensive with a little something for everyone. Service was courteous and quick. Te goat cheese, spinach and grilled shrimp salad was divine - a terrific mix of flavors and textures. Delightful for a business lunch.
Review Source:What a fun place for a business lunch! Â The line of uniformed aerospace dudes went out the door; we managed to call in a reservation so we were seated immediately - highly recommended! Â From the outside you'd never expect that this was a foodie experience - it looks like an industrial supply house. Â Then it looks like a cleverly disguised strip club. Â Then you get inside and it is a clean, trendy lunch spot. Â The pace was pretty electric without feeling rushed. Â Someone at the office recommended this Steak Chimichurri ... (their online menu keeps locking up my computer so I can't verify the menu item name). Â In any case it was just phenomenal. Â A delicious serving of steak (mine was cooked perfectly, my coworker's was rather underdone) covered with a green mango-salsa, complimented with sauteed vegetables over Spanish rice with a side of black beans, decorated with two beautiful dried plantain slices. Â It was simply outstanding! Â Another friend had the open faced tuna melt which he liked just fine; the last member of our foursome had the Penne Vodka with chicken which he described as, I usually like everything that I have here - this, not so much.
I reluctantly had to take points off because my friend's meat was under-cooked and it took some engineering to flag down the server to have that corrected - and their web site keeps locking up my computer (opening the PDF lunch menu). Â And yes, the web site is part of the whole experience and I rate that along with the whole presentation.
Kudos on the character of the restaurant theme and the daring to be trendy and tasty with their menu items when their location would ensure a full house every day even if they simply served slop. Â Certainly worth revisiting!
I've been to this place a couple of times. Food is decently good, sometimes very good. It is a four star place generally given the nice atmosphere, modern interior and runway view. Sometimes service is slow when busy, and recently I ordered takeout (southwest burger) and they left off the guacamole and pico de gallo toppings and the top half of the bun. I was 12 minutes away before I opened the box and realized this, so...not doing another round trip to get that put back on. So at this point, only 3 stars, but that may change over time if there are no more hiccups along the way.
If you want a somewhat upscale lunch in a nice atmosphere while in the vicinity of this airport, this place is a decent option. I'm sure I just had bad luck.
Great location. Kids love it. Food is delish, especially breakfast. Â I enjoyed the crab cake at lunch (and that's saying alot for a Virginia/Cheseapeake Bay area transplant). Â We like the little fried yumminess served with all breakfasts. Â My son adores watching the airplanes taking off. Â There is usally no wait and no parking issue. Â We trade in the beach breakfast spot for this spot on occasion because its so easy, so reliable and so easy to access.
Review Source:Sloooooooow service, overcooked steak, newly sat tables being served right away while you've been sitting there for several minutes waiting. Â I went to this place based on the recommendation of the PBS tv show Check please, South Florida, and was badly disappointed. Â The people on that show do not always have the best taste-buds I guess. Â I wish the food and service would've been better, because watching planes take off and land is neat. Â Oh well, one and done.
Review Source:98% yeah!! Â I'll reserve the 2%...I will explain.
So we got an Amazon Local deal for this place almost a year ago. Â I was excited to get it as we had seen this place getting a great review somewhere (maybe a show?) and I knew the kids would love it. Â Â It's a bit far from us (30 minutes) so we were looking for the right moment to go. Â Well today is a beautiful S. Fl Fall day and we felt the timing was right. Â Â And man was I looking forward to some french toast and coffee............except that I couldn't. Â We got there at 11:24, and apparently they stop serving breakfast at 11. Â Â Imagine my disappointment. Â Â The lunch looked great but man when you are in the mood for breakfast, a turkey sandwich just won't do! Â Â The waitress didn't even attempt to ask if they still could. Â Â Thus the 2% holdback. Â Â Now let's talk about the food......
We ordered two kids meals. Â $6 each. Â Came with fries and small fruit cup (mostly mandarin oranges). Â Â They were huge plates, enough for a normal sized person. Â Â We ordered a grill chicken for one, and then grilled cheese for the other. Â The grilled cheese wasn't your slap a processed cheddar slice on it, it was multiple kinds of cheese on some nice bread. Â Could have been a melted a bit more, but I was impressed and so were my kids. Â The grilled chicken was marinated so it wasn't their favorite but they did eat some.
For the big kids (adults) we ordered the Silver Lining Salad and Tomato Caprese sandwich. Â Â Salad was chock full of that marinated chicken, greens, cheese, among other things. Â Â It was relatively big, I was impressed. Â Â The caprese sandwich was awesome, however I didn't have too much of it. Â Between the salad, some fries (great healthy combo I know), and a few bites of the grilled cheese we were stuffed. Â Â Take home food!!!!
We haven't even talked about the atmosphere. Â It's awesome. Â Inside, the place is very nicely decorated. Very upscale looking but not fancy. Â But the giant windows overlooking all the planes landing and departing steals the show...the kids were so excited. Â Does make you sad you can't travel like this.....'hey, get in a plane and then 5 minutes later you are in the air'. Â Try that on a commercial jet!
All this came to $41 including tax and tip  We had a $30 certificated so cost us $26, I say deal!
I just can't wait to go back and actually have the breakfast.....arriving before 11 a.m. of course.
I have been here a few times now and the food has always been great, fresh, good portions, well presented and tasty. I recommend the Mahi Tacos, sweet potato fries, homemade potato fries, Churrasco steak, Lobster Bisque and Grilled cheese sandwich. The menu variety is great and every dish has some uniqueness.
It gets very busy mid lunch time so try to get there early or little later otherwise you may need to wait for a table. I have not eaten here for dinner but i would imagine that it's a nice place for dinner especially since you can sit and watch the little planes land and take off very cool.
Lastly the decor is very simple and modern, everything is neat and clean, it has an open kitchen setting so you can see the meals being made. I definitely recommend this place.
Wow this place is trendy, has great food, menu selection, service, views and is very reasonably priced. If you leave here hungry, you're probably too big to fit on any of the planes your likely to see taking off or landing. I'm not a fan of flight, but this place is definitely worth dining at no matter how you get here. Everything we had to eat here was good beyond all expectations. You won't find one of these restaurants on every corner and it takes a little effort to find this one, but you'll be glad you did. A great place to take family and friends with lots jets, planes, helicopters and interesting people to see while you dine. We will definitely dine here again.
Review Source:I've been back to Jet Runway multiple times since my first visit in 2010 and it's always a great experience. I like to take people here that are new to this part of town, like new coworkers since I work nearby, and everybody always loves it.
For example, today I had the grilled cheese sandwich, which was made with 3 different types of cheeses, and comes with the tomato bisque ($10.50 for sandwich & soup, $5 for just the bisque) and it was fantastic. This might be the best tomato bisque I've had. A couple of weeks ago I was here and had the bacon & boursin cheese burger with fries, which was also amazing. I've never had a bad lunch here, and the prices are very reasonable, with most meals in the $10-$13 range. The restaurant is nice and clean, modern decor, service is great, and I also like seeing the planes take off and land out the window. All in all, it's one of my favorite places to eat lunch in Fort Laud...
What a great little find!
A friend works around the corner, and when I was in the area he mentioned them as a lunch option.
I picked him up and we headed over. Â We sat next to the window with a great view of the planes taking off and landing.
The food is good and the prices are reasonable (if a teeny bit high). Â The only reason they're losing a point is because I'm pretty sure our order was forgotten. Â It took a solid 30 minutes to bring us our food.
I had the mahi sandwich and would recommend it.
Saw this restaurant on Check Please. Thought I would take a joy ride from Davie to visit with my parents today. Glad I did, a bit hard to find, high traffic area to me. The restaurant was packed at 2pm and we were there till 3:20 and they had only three tables still filled. Clearly a working persons place for lunch although a bit on the expensive side and large portions for me. We ordered a burger..really good..fries too. Shrimp po boy..excellent with homemade potatoe chips and a crab cake sandwich which was huge w really great flavor, guacamole and fries. Iced tea w lemon was the drink. Clean, modern and cool with plenty of airplanes to see. Great for kids I think? The breakfast menu looks really good. This place Is worth trying for sure.
Review Source:I was pleasantly surprised. Went here for a work meeting with 5 others. The food was delicious!
Between the atmosphere watching the smalll private planes, the cleanliness of the restaurant, the quality of the food, I give it 5 stars!
Can't wait to go back to try other items on the menu!
Very average food served in a cool location with a comfortable setting. Â Having heard the buzz about this place, I purchased a living social deal and finally went for lunch. Â Although the living social deal said no holidays, I called in advance to see if they would honor the voucher on President's day, which they did, and faced no problems when using the voucher upon arrival.
The location is in the Pompano Executive Airport and so the view of small puddle jumpers and airport activity as well as the chicly decorated restaurant could have easily caused me to bump this place from 2 stars to 3. Â However, I am keeping it at 2. Â For lunch, I started with a chicken rice and mushroom soup which was good, but needed salt and pepper to add some stronger flavor. Â I also ordered a special, the mahi fish tacos. Â My girlfriend had the chicken parmigiana sandwich. Â The tacos were OK. Â The fish seemed to be chopped up instead of larger pieces of fillet and the taco shells seemed to be store bought "old el paso" shells. Â Certainly, they did not appear to be homemade. Â The flavor was good, but better fish tacos I have certainly had. Â The chicken parmigiana came with provolone and mozzarella cheeses and my girlfriend requested no provolone. Â The sandwich came out without any cheese whatsoever. Â I don't know if the two cheeses are premixed or if this was just an error by server or kitchen. Â No big deal, but the mozzarella or explanation would have been nice. Â On the plus side, the breaded chicken cutlet with tomato sauce that came out was nicely cooked and flavored. Â I enjoyed the bread it was served on, although it was not really Italian bread by any means.
Service was fine. Â Upon arrival we had to wait a bit for the host to get off the phone before seating us (and she did not even acknowledge our presence). Â The place was loud and is a good spot for kids who would like to see the planes. Â I would maybe go back if in the area, but am in no rush to return having been there once.
This last Saturday I brought a group of 10 in for breakfast. A couple of months ago we had about the same number here for lunch. Both times the restaurant was fantastic. The food was great both times -- I can highly recommend the Silver Lining Salad -- and the service was good as well. We had no issues with our orders and were easily able to get separate checks for everyone in our group.
The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because of a little confusion when we first arrived. I had called ahead the day before to make sure they could accommodate our group and was told they would be expecting us. When we first arrived the individual we spoke to had no knowledge of this and it took a few minutes to sort everything out. Other than that small hiccup, it was a great experience and we will definitely return.
On a final note I would add that as a vegetarian there are good options to choose from. I'm not as sure about how well it would work for vegans.
I think this is a fantastic restaurant in a great setting. I look forward to my next meal there.
A fantastic place to visit for your $100 hamburger. (If you're not a pilot, no the hamburgers aren't really $100! Prices are reasonable!) There is no ramp fee at Banyan and you can visit the best pilot shop in the southeast too!
Food here is WAY above average, service very good, view perfect, and facility clean and modern.
Be aware that the FLL Class C airspace south of Runway 8 has a floor of 1200 ft!
Airport restaurants always suck. Period. This place blew me away.
I expected nothing and had no pre-conceived notions. I was here on my way to somewhere else and knew nothing about this place, Being a private pilot I've eaten at every airport burger joint from here to San Francisco and, usually, it's diner food at best. Jet Runway Cafe has changed that.
The food here is obviously a priority. You can tell by the decidely more adventurous menu items. Sure they have burgers, but they're Angus beef and have interesting sauces, cheeses and very fresh greens and veggies.
Their soup blew me away and I'm not a soup guy. That day they offered a homemade Southwest tortilla soup which was DELISH. It was absolutely hand-crafted, not some warmed-up concentrate you get from the restaurant supply house and just add water. Nope, this was absolutely top-notch.
The salads are complex and interesting. The dressings taste homemade, not bottled. Not vinegary aftertaste that overpowers everything. The bread was hot and fresh with a great, yeasty flavor. Breakfast was great too (I ate there twice). It was a flaky, softer-than-air croissant with fresh scrambled eggs (not from powder either), cheddar and a light spread. Perfect. The sweet potato fires are excellent too.
All in all, it just really surprised me. The decor is modern and the place is clean. There are lots of pilots here too so there's always something to talk to your neighbor about. Great views too.
An unlikely find.
I love searching for "hidden" places like these; the ones tucked away in obscure locales. Located within the Ft. Lauderdale Executive airport off Commercial Boulevard, this restaurant is definitely off the beaten path, which makes it that much more fun to uncover. Fortunately for me, this particular airport is located near my job, and I figured I would go give it a whirl.
You immediately notice that the restaurant occupies the corner of a large hangar with a wide view of the runway, where you can watch smaller airplanes taxi and take-off. The decor is modern and the restaurant spacious. The service fast, the prices on par.
The food is well presented. Everything I swear looked so appetizing! I ordered the angus beef burger with cheddar, and truthfully it held up. The burger didn't  fall apart, the cheese was more than adequate. All in all, a very hearty meal. Â
I am looking forward to try other menu items!
Food quality, presentation, flavor, service was good. We were here for breakfast, the menu was short and easy. My breakfast burrito was simple but tasty. The decor is cool and the view of the runway and hangars with planes is quite unique. Don't be fooled by the looks from the parking lot, they are closed on sundays. Prices are ok. The fried bread pudding is very good!
Review Source:I've never had anything here that wasn't delicious and I've tried most of the menu as well as a few specials (great churassco steak! also had a great crab mac n/ cheese special once). This place can get really really busy at lunch and sometimes there's a wait for a table but the servers seem to hustle. Once seated I don't think I've ever waited very long for anything.
Make sure to pick up a frequent diner card. They stamp them and after 10 lunches (which can often run about $20 with tip) you get a free entree..
My co-workers have known about this place for a long period of time, but only recently did I learn about it. What a nice surprise.
Like Eats Good 33, which is also located in a nearby warehouse district in the neighborhood, this place is packed away in what appears to be an airport hanger at the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.
The food looks really good based purely on appearance (I watched food being brought out to other tables). I had a Chicken Caesar Salad on my first visit and it was very good and served in a hearty portion.
I look forward to returning in order to try other menu items. Everything looks very good.
The view of the airport is pretty cool, and the crowd is diverse (working class combined with business class folks). It was very packed at lunchtime on a Monday, which surprised me.
How do all of these folks know about this "hidden" gem? It suggests that people will go out of their way for good food, ambiance and an all-around dining experience.
Giving 5 stars is unusual for me. It's a find, if you manage to get there through the industrial airfront area. Good food, great setting and themed decor. The service was attentive and the steak salad great, especially for a usually non-salad main course diner. Will definitely find a reason to return.
Review Source:Months ago our office received flyers about this place opening up but I never gave it a shot until this week. It's off the beaten path when it comes to finding a spot to eat, but worth it in my opinion.
The view is great, the prices are exceptionally reasonable. I ordered the Mediterranean salad (added grilled chicken) which included spinach leaves, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, chunks of mozzarella cheese and a lemon garlic dressing. Although the dressing was a little lacking in flavor (needed more salt...?) it was still fairly good.
This may be a good or bad thing depending on your preference, but the seating is fairly close together. At the time this was a plus because it allowed me to check out other people's orders and everything looked really good - especially the burrito and the tomato soup and grilled cheese. If I wasn't trying to avoid a food coma at work I would definitely have ordered something else. But there's always next time because I'll definitely be coming back. Â
3.5 stars
I really don't want to write about this place because I want to keep it to myself. Â I usually walk to this place from my work unless it is 100 degrees outside. Â This is my second favorite lunch spot in the area. Â
Usually when I think of airport food I puke a little in the back of my mouth, but this place is special. Â It is an executive airport frequented by the rich. Â
Food:
Have never had anything bad here. Â My favorites are the soup/salad combo. Â Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, best buffalo chicken anything I have ever had. Â Blackened Mahi sandwich, fresh and good. Â Â There fries are so good. Â They must do something special to make them so good, but I haven't figured it out yet. Â
Service:
Really good service at the price. Â They are quick to fill your drink. Â They will take special instructions with a smile. Â Plus some of the servers are cute which is always a plus. Â
Ambiance:
The place is so clean (even the bathrooms) and you can view the runway from your table which is nice. Â It is loud in the place, but for some reason I don't mind it.
Cost: Â
About the same as a Friday's or Chili's. Â But so much better!!!
I don't take 5 stars lightly, I really like this place. Â I wouldn't take a group of more than 4 people here. Â They don't have any big tables.
Interesting restaurant. This is definitely a word of mouth place and I would have never have went there if I didn't see the reviews on Yelp. The ambiance is spectacular. The decor is hip and clean. You sit at tables where you can view planes landing and taking off, the little boy in me loves that:) Just a cool vibe.
My waitress was Felicia and she was very pleasant. She was informative about the menu and even suggested I order a certain breakfast sandwich that included grits instead of paying for each of  them separately. That was great advice.
I had the Breakfast Croissant with Ham and Swiss cheese minus the eggs. It came with a side of grits and I added a side of potatoes (see pic). The food was excellent. The ham slices looked like it was cut from a whole ham. The croissant was soft and flaky. The grits were alittle more creamier than I like. Looks and tastes like they use cream or milk instead of water to cook the grits in, they still tasted good. The potatoes were perfectly fried. I added some Tabasco to the potatoes and grits and I was clear for take off:) Oh yeah, the coffee was good too.
Now I bet you are wondering why I only gave this place 3 stars, the answer is this; The Breakfast Croissant came with a choice of meat, two eggs, cheese, and a side of grits. All for $8.25 minus tax. Not bad for quality food. Well I don't like eggs and I asked if I could substitute the eggs for a side of potatoes. The answer was no and I ordered the potatoes anyways for $3.00 extra, no biggie. When I got my check I saw that I was paying full price for the sandwich even though I did not receive eggs. One egg, as a side, is listed for $1.50 a piece. So in my mind 3 bucks should have come off the bill. Well it didn't and I asked Felicia why. She didn't really have an answer and I wasn't going to argue over 3 lousy bucks, but it's not right. I am not cheap by any standards and I take pride in that. I still left Felicia a 3 buck tip on a $14.05 bill even though I was not happy. It was not her fault that management makes some quirky rule that is F'ing BS. Well I'm glad I got that out of my system:)
I will definitely be back, but I will order smarter. Remember to them Dan sent you....well maybe you shouldn't because they could be mad at me now...lol. Stay Hungry!
OK I'll be the stick in the mud on this one.
Once you get past the 'cool views' of the airport this place is:
LOUD
But has nice decor. I've been a bunch of times as I work around Ft Lauderdale Exec. The breakfasts have been poor at best and the manager has refunded my money several (well 2 actually) times. The chef in the AM seems more interested in BS-ing than cooking and even when empty he is slow at best and just a crappy cook.
I do like lunch better... The do a good job at lunch and are always busy... I won't comment on the french fries in a cup but suffice it to say I find their plating a bit over the top but I am glad they are not the usual airport restaurant.
Here's my follow-up, this time for breky.
I had the eggs Benedict. Missus's had the biscuits and gravy. At 900am it was perfect not too crowded, 5 star service, and homemade coffee cake. I want to try the lump crabcake eggs Benedict for return, this ranks on one of my top lsits for a local Ft LDL weekend breky spot.
This has become my favorite lunch spot! Â The food is always consistent and good. Â The breakfast is definitely worth a try. Â We order at our office and the food comes quick and is always correct. Â It is a little higher priced than most people want to pay for but definitely worth the price. The portions are more than fair.
If you get a chance, don't only order from them but dine there as well. Â The place has a very cool, hip feel and sits on a runway. Â As far as I know they are only open for breakfast and lunch. Â Give them a try and you will be hooked too.
I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning! Â
It appears the secret is out about this place. Â And with good reason. Â With its terrific views of the airfield, sleek ambiance, and good food, this place is bound to become a popular lunch spot.
The restaurant was packed with a large lunch crowd, with 15-20 minute waits. After waiting a bit, I ordered the cobb salad. Â A great mix of field greens, bacon, avocado, blue cheese chunks, and a large chicken breast. The portion was generous and the price is right. Â Almost everything is under $12, with most meals in the $9 to $10 dollar range. Â
For an aviation nut, like myself, the view is priceless, as you actually sit as close as you can to the tarmac, watching planes take off and land. I actually had to remember to check my watch, Â as it is easy to lose track of time.
Many thanks to  Michael y., who suggested to me to give this fantastic breakfast/lunch restaurant a try.
A dining experience like no other! If you love aviation or just want to try someplace new, this is the place to go! It's not overcrowded and the view can't be beat. Definitely a great place to have breakfast and lunch. The cafe is a small restaurant with a relaxing modern design. Hidden near the Executive Airport between Cypress Creek and Commercial, you get a nice view of the tarmac and airplanes at the airport. Your kids will love it. We saw a helicopter land as we ate one Saturday morning. The food is delicious and a pretty good variety on the menu. A great experience that can't be missed!
