This place has been around a long time and it shows. They have all kinds of memorabilia on the walls. 80's music was even playing when we stepped in for a weekday lunch. There is kind of a woodsy, greek, americana vibe going on. The menu was simple and the pricing was good. My companion ordered the olive burger. Â A must for anyone from Michigan or anywhere else for that matter. It was good. I had the half sized athenian salad. It was good as well. The pricing is great and as expected for a cafe like Jimmys.
Review Source:Maybe it was a bad day, but I was not impressed!  Firstly the place is too small.  Everyone is packed in like sardines.  Place surely needs a makeover. Secondly, the  biscuits in my biscuits and gravy were burnt!  My bacon was just some pre microwaved bacon you buy in the freezer section.  Breakfast is hard to mess up in my opinion.  But they did it.  I wont go back.  Too many other good places in Valpo.
Review Source:Jimmy's is just the sort of diner I love to go to on a Sunday morning after a rough weekend. Â Friendly staff and a bunch of food cooked in butter. Â Yeah, that's right...butter. Â No canola oil nonsense here, they know what tastes good and man do they do it up. Â I had two eggs over medium and hash browns, and all were cooked perfectly. Â Let me once again note - in butter! Â MMMmmmmm........ Â As other reviewers have noted, they only take cash here, so keep that in mind. Â I tend to live in a cashless world, so it's good to know to come prepared.
Review Source:Today was the day of second choices. We came here when I found out the first place did not open until five. We sat in a booth in the back as were serviced promptly. I got the club with bacon. When it came out it was cut up into four triangles as usual. But the loaf was a bit small. The sandwich tasted great, as did the fries. My friend had the caesar salad and it came slathered in homemade dressing. The only complaint is that the croutons on his salad were fried and they tasted like fish sticks? The place is a bit dated. They had a baby picture on the wall of someone who is probably 40 by now. But the service and the food are spot on.
Review Source:Best hometown breakfast place you can find. Â Maybe I'm biased because I grew up going to Jimmy's almost every weekend. Â My parents still frequent it at least a couple times a month and my husband and I go when we are in town (we live in Indy now). Â Jimmy's feels like home though and I think anyone coming from out of town would feel the same as well. Â Great story of a hard-working family living out a dream day in and day out, managing a restuarant and raising a family. Â Food is great and you'll have it in front of you before you can blink. Â Love it!
Review Source:We were in Valpo visiting some friends and decided to go here before our train ride back to the city.
We were greeted and allowed to choose where we sat.
Water was brought to the table promptly and orders for drinks were taken.
Food orders were not taken until the menus were placed on the table, but that may have been a coincidence.
Everyone ordered breakfast (gyros omelet, steak & eggs, french toast) and i ordered the turkey club.
Food was fast but it did not all come out together.
The do not take credit/debit so make sure you have cash.
A man at the register did not have cash and was allowed to leave, go to an ATM, and come back to pay.
All in all if was a good experience.
They have limited hours (open only until 2-3pm)
Best place in the area for breakfast. Great food and lightening fast service. If you are in Valpo, do yourself a favor and get to Jimmy's, say hello to Maria and have some pancakes. Freaking great!
If you can't have the pancakes or want to add something to your pancakes, I strongly recommend a cheese omlette. It comes with a mound of breakfast potatoes and toast.
Lastly, if you miss breakfast...their burgers are good and their reuben is awesome!
I have dreams about this place and will make it a point to take my kids there.
Every small town needs that one cafe with friendly waitresses and cheap, delicious food. Jimmy's is that place. Don't come to Jimmy's unless you're stomach is growling because the portions you are served will more than fill you up. There is nothing fancy about the food at Jimmy's. It's simply good, filling and hearty food that makes you happy.
The staff treats all of their customers wonderfully. They are patient, friendly and eager to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. The decor hasn't been updated in a few decades, but that adds to the charm. It's one of Valpo's gems and really should be visited every weekend.
'How are you dears?' No matter how many times you have dined at this fine establishment, the waitstaff treats you like family. Â The second you order, it seems your food is in front of you, but not only that, it's amazing. Â Magic must be involved.
Make sure you hit this place up before 2pm (closing time) because if you don't, you'll be kicking yourself for missing out. Â Anytime you find yourself passing though Valparaiso, IN or even just on Route 30, make sure you pull off and try this dinner out. Â For under $10 a person, you will eat some of the best breakfast (and lunch) you've ever had. Â It taste just like Grandma used to make. Â Make sure you buy a t-shirt as well!
Fast, cheap and out of control! Well, Jimmy's is not really out of control, unless you count how amazingly fast and cheap this downtown Valparaiso cafe is! If you want your classic American diner experience, replete with awesome, friendly waitresses and low, low prices, get yourself to Jimmy's post-haste. They use real butter for cooking, the omelets are reasonably-sized, the shredded hashbrowns deliciously crispy and the coffee refills abundant. Impressively, the food is not drowning in grease, so you can actually enjoy it without imagining the heart attack you'll have later. Breakfast for six hungry adults plus coffee was $42. Huzzah!
