I've gone to both JJ's in the past and have been extremely satisfied - gread food and service. Â I was extremely disappointed this time around when my husband and I both selected a prix fixe dinner at JJ's Bistro de Paris. Â The menu reads as follows:
MENU SUD QUEST $30
Choice of Soup (French Onion or Vichyssoise), Choice of Entrees (Boeuf Bourguignon or Coq Au Vin), Choice of Dessert
Our server didn't disclose that "choice of dessert" excludes everything except cake. Â JJ's has a great selection of desserts, which you walk past as you enter the restaurant. Â At the end of our meal, we find out that most of those desserts do not qualify as "Choice of Dessert", so we each chose a slice of cake. Â Imagine our surprise when we were each given a half-slice of cake! Â Had we purchased the meal ala carte, the entree and appetizer would totaled $26, which means we paid $4 for a half slice of cake. Â Had we known, we would have ordered our meals ala carte and split the dessert we wanted and it would have cost us the same. Â In the interest of fairness in advertising, he server and/or menu should have specified that the choice of dessert was really a half-slice of cake. Â I wouldn't have expected this type of bait and switch from JJ's. Â :(
Went to JJ's Liberty Bistro and unfortunately, walked away unsatisfied and still hungry. Â It's unfortunately because the atmosphere is nice and the decor cute and intimate. Â It would have been a great local restaurant to go on a date night. Â
We ordered a duck dish and a pork belly dish. Â The portion of the duck dish was very small and tasted ok, but the pork belly dish was an over-priced chili with lots of beans mixed with bacon.
food was decent....all things considered, we're talking "french" cuisine in jacksonville, fl. what was not decent, however, was the service. well, to be fair, our server was rather pleasant and hard working. it's the owner of the place that was rude and obnoxious. apparently he does not care for babies (in strollers) patronizing his restaurant. he tried to seat us in some secluded dining room totally away from everyone else. he was rather obvious about his frustrations that we brought a baby to his restaurant. oh well... guess we won't be back till the kid is 18.... maybe!
Review Source:I tried this for 3 of us at lunch and was apalled that 3 bags of lays chips and 3 chicken salad sandwiches on croissants was $30.00!!!
The bread was dry like it was bought at Sam's club. Â The chicken in the chicken salad was large chuncks, when I opened my sandwich half I only had 2 chunks for 1/2 the sandwich!
Never again - if I'm going to have a 30.00 lunch I'll go elsewhere and if I want chicken salad with nuts and grapes (which I like) I'll go thru Arby's before I pay 10.00 for a small sandwich at this bistro again!!
Don't be scared, it's three stars because I'm trying to hold tight to be strict rating system. Â The food was great, the service was very good, and the prices are cheap to reasonable. Â I was just a little disappointed with my entree, but let me start at the beginning. Â The soup and appetizers were very good. Â The salad that came out right before the dinner was nothing special. Â The entrees were pretty good. Â WIfe had salmon and I had leg of lamb. Â Her salmon was very good and my lamb was tasted great, but there just wasn't that much meat on it, so I was a little disappointed. Â
I like this place, and if you want to eat in Ponte Vedra, you have very limited options. Â This has to be near the top of the well-priced Ponte Vedra restaurants.
This tiny little bistro was crowded with wine bottles and refrigerator cases full of eclectic desserts, pate's, cheeses and other assorted French goodies. Â Ahhh, a visual treat as a precursor to my lunch here a JJ's Bistro.
The chairs are a woven thatch and I was a bit nervous planting my plus sized Foodie Batootie in one of these precarious looking seats.  There was a bit of a groan once my weight was distributed, but no issues after.  There is a beautiful French mural on the wall and the floors look like a saltio tile and all of the wine bottles and brick add to the ambiance of the décor.  There is an outdoor seating area, but it was warm and I wanted to see the inside of this little hot spot.
The service was a bit 'sterile' as I appreciate smiling and a little input on eclectic menus such as this one at JJ's. Â But, the gal that seated me was all business and the young boy who waited on me was just as meticulous. Â Not unfriendly by any means, just ready to do his job I guess. Â Service was quick (although there was only 2 other tables being served at lunch), and the food was really good.
Hot sandwich - Fiorenz $9.50 - Tomato slices, onions, gorgonzola, kalmata olives, and sun dried tomatoes with pesto. Â DELICIOUS!!!
Soup - VICYSSOISE cup $3.25 - cold potato and leek soup. Â This was good, but perhaps just a little salty.
The lunch prices are a little expensive, but I would expect this as the menu is French and eclectic. Â I will definitely be back to try their Bouillabaisse.
