We have loved Joe's for years, and for a period of time we were there pretty much every Friday night. The atmosphere is cheesy old Polish bar, Notre Dame fan friendly, and home town comfortable; it's a great place to relax and have a beer, hang out, and eat. But something has changed. There's been some turnover in personnel, and the food and service are not at all up to snuff anymore. They had the best fish and the best pierogies around, but after our last three visits, we decided that we're done. Maybe we'll pop by in six months to see if they've gotten back on track.
Review Source:The finest bar food in South Bend, period.
The owners have dedicated themselves to serving excellent fare for ridiculously affordable prices. Â Why do they do this? Â It is a pleasant mystery for sure.
THE best burgers in town, when Brian is cooking, and the best pierogies in town if his mom is.
Always top quality steaks, superb fried fish, and potatoes cooked to order. Â Also, if you come on a Saturday, they have some of the best pizza you'll ever eat. Â
The fare is not what you'd call "lite", so if you don't like grease, I'd suggest you just save yourself some time and go the the Martin's salad bar. Â
The building itself, like Bootlegger's down the street, is a veritable antique, and hearkens back to the days when the surrounding neighborhood was filled with Polish immigrants and their kids. Â Get yourself a shot of Jezynowka just for the hell of it, for old times sake, and LET IT OUT.
