Came in here trying to find a butcher for my aunt that puts whole fennel seeds in their sausage. Â Had everything you could think of in an Italian grocery store. Â In the back, was a long meat counter with a large meat selection and the guy was very helpful in answering my questions regarding their products. Â Quite a few products there were homemade.
Got a pound of their sausage, a pizza bread with sausage and tomato chunks for $8.99 that could feed a few people. Â There were also bakery items towards the front and my rather empty stomach commanded me to order 5 cannolis, which were $2 and were so good that none of them made it back home. Â My family liked the sausage and will be coming back for sure!
At 200 reviews, I think I can let you all in on a little secret I've been keeping.
It's Joseph Food Mart, and it's not nasty. In fact, it's the opposite.
These guys have the most amazing deli, with the best imported and home-made Italian specialties this side of the Atlantic.
Need huge breaded chicken filets or several variations of Italian pork cutlets? Imported Italian cold cuts? Pancetta? Sausage and salami made and cured in-house? Go see Joseph.
Frozen: Italian-marinated shrimps, Arancini, stuffed mussels and shells, and fish of almost every type. They'll even have the elusive eel for your Italian Christmas vigil dinner. Don't pass up the olive and antipasto case, either.
This place is at the far NW corner of Chicago where it hits River Grove and Norrdge. Depending on where you're coming from, it's an easy drive in the burbs or a long bus ride on the #80. And their fresh food has variety and its not nearing its expiration date, unlike like "cheaper" nearby Butera's that is cheap for a reason.
