Great local hangout with lots of different and interesting beers! I told the bartender what type of beer I usually drink, and let him pick 4 4 ounce pours for me (the paddle); all of his choices were awesome! Service was great. This was a pit stop on the way to dinner, but will definitely be back to try their food!
Review Source:This place is a little larger than I had anticipated. Still not large. Their bar is bigger than over at A1A Alehouse, though.
Nectar IPA was excellent - better than the IPA I had at A1A, in fact.
While the beer menu is extensive, the food menu isn't. Salads & sandwiches. Â Reuben hit the spot - nothing to complain about there. The potato salad on the side was bland, maybe why they have such a small serving.
Good service. Some might say the barkeep was a little gruff, but he was attentive and that is all I ask.
The selection of beers on tap was impressive, but JP Henley's is only good for the beer & wine. If you're hungry, don't even. We made the mistake of coming here hungry after a long drive from the airport. Ordered the crab stuffed mushrooms, wasn't impressed. I ordered the Roast Beef & Pecan Salad, it was enormous and came on a paper plate with a plastic fork. The pecans and gorgonzola were nice but it wasn't a great experience. Husband ended up eating half of my salad because his sandwich was so small.
Review Source:I'd heard of this place from friends in St. Augustine, so when I was down last week, I stopped in with some out-of-town visitors.
Nice place, LOTS of taps, and a decent wine selection as well. Â It was a little loud for our purposes that evening, which was to catch up, but not unpleasantly so. Â There was another room off to the left of the entrance that might have been quieter, but finding 6 or 7 seats together was the goal.
Parking was pretty terrible, as is the case for most businesses near the bayfront. Â This was compounded by it being Bike Week, and having half of the plaza parking spaces roped off for bikes.
Prices were reasonable. Â I'll visit again next time I'm in the area.
For a sports bar this place has great food. Sandwich was delicious and the french onion soup was great, not to thick or salty, like I have experienced many times in the past. The beer selection is undoubtedly the largest in the area with over 70 beers on draft and they offer different sized pours. They have plenty of TVs for watching a game. Service could have been a tad better, but good food, good drinks and a clean atmospher and you can't really complain.
Review Source:I have to agree with the majority of the reviews in saying that JP Henley's is one of the best, if not the best, bar around the St. Augustine area. Â Tucked in a small storefront on Marine St., JP Henley's is probably often overlooked for its micro brewery neighbor A1A Ale Works. Â If you are in the area, you MUST make your way over and visit this bar. Â Packed with 50+ taps, awesome flat screen tvs perfect for watching any game, and a welcoming staff, JP Henley's is a must try while in St. Augustine. Â They also have several wines, which can be ordered by the glass or the ounce. Â Prices are always reasonable, unlike the other craft beer bar (Rondevou), and they allow you to order in smaller pours to try many beers. Â
While I have never had the food, I have had more than my fair share of brews from this bar. Â The staff has always been extremely helpful in answering any questions, and are always glad to help my girlfriend in selecting her beer. Â The service has always been spot on, and I have never been left sitting at the bar for more than a couple of minutes waiting to order. Â They usually have very good rotating seasonal beers that you don't typically see in Florida. Â The bar seems to be packed during the college semester, but I have also visited during the summer with only a few patrons inside. Â I wish I could somehow transplant this bar to Orlando!
On Thursday, December 27th 2012 - my girlfriend and I visited JP Henleys at about 9pm. Â The service was outstanding and the food was very good. Â We had an issue with a table of "younger" guests and the management and staff dealt with the issue both professionally and appropriately. Â We appreciated the service and and food. Â We will be back for sure.
Review Source:Stopped here again with no intent to eat, just grab some new craft beers I have not tried before and watch the SEC championship football game. Â With a different agenda the experience was much better than my first visit.
Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable about the beers they had on tap. Â With a description of what I was looking for she was then able to identify several excellent choices. Â It was also a good place to catch the game. Â Glad we gave the place another try.
By far the best craft beer bar St Augustine has to offer. This place has everything I want, good beer, decent food if you get peckish and a friendly staff. It's in a cute little building that's probably been there since the Spanish arrived and it's close to St George and everything.
I would say hit this one first, try out a few others and then end the night here.
Our favorite little watering hole in St Augustine. Not only do they have over 50 beers on tap - they took us in back to see the cooler. Not sure who asked the question and how it all happened.
You can always count on meeting someone and striking up a conversation and the bartender(s) are personable and knowledgeable about the beers as well as the surrounding area. Last time we were here the bartender gave us a recommendation for dinner which proved to be terrific.
We will be back again.
I was reminded of how much I love beer when visited here the other night. Â They have Well's Banana Bread Beer on tap here!!!! Â Oh my hops! Â I used to drink this poolside all summer long and I had forgotten just how yummy it is- like a fresh baked loaf of banana bread (although not too sweet). Â But enough on that- this bar has like 50+ beers on tap and a ton of bottles too. Â And a solid wine selection. Â The bartender was very chill and laid-back. Â Atmosphere was good. Â A mixed crowd of college kids, adults, tourists, locals, etc. Â We learned that St. Augustine is a pretty dry city, but this place was a little Oasis from Soberville.
Review Source:50 beers on tap. Yes. All of them awesome, all of them fresh. They serve food as well, but who cares. They have 50 BEERS ON TAP.
The general feel is that of a sports bar. It is clean and bright and the bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable about the 50 BEERS ON TAP.
If you love beer, you must visit here.
My fiancée and I have eaten there twice now and could justify them being slightly overpriced if the food was phenomenal, but it's not.  I ordered beer soup which sounded fantastic!  The waitress also said the soup was selling like mad and was very popular, but when it came out it warm (not hot) and nothing to write home about.  We ordered the stuffed mushrooms because they sounded great, but the portion size was a little disappointing. Â
We went when it wasn't happy hour and ordered the beer that they had on special which was $2.00 a draft. We'll go back for their beer on special but we'll eat somewhere more satisfying before hand.
They don't have outdoor seating, but do have tables close to big windows
What a beer selection! 50 on tap! And not filled with tourists. It was one of the only spots we went to while vacationing in St. Augustine that wasn't overwhelmingly crowded and it is one of my favorite bars ever because of all the different beers. I had one called the Hopsecutioner. Such a great name and delicious! The beers are a bit expensive but for what you're getting I'd say it's worth it. Although I haven't eaten here, the atmosphere is so nice I can't recommend it enough. Drink and be merry! =)
Review Source:This place has about every type of beer you can imagine, including lambic beer on tap and in the bottle. Â They also serve combination drinks, like the "chocolate covered raspberry," which is a mixture of a chocolate stout and raspberry lambic beer. Â The atmosphere is great. Â There is a bar in the main room with several tall bistro tables for sitting near one of the many flat screen televisions. Â There is also a cozy room in the back with tables and comfortable upholstered chairs that allows gathering in a more intimate setting. Â The only thing that could use improvement is the food, which is decent but not stand out. Â There are several simple appetizers and hot and cold sandwiches that are served with a pickle and potato salad, pasta salad, fruit salad, or chips. Â We had the baked brie, but the cheese was only slightly warm, not melted. Â We also had the chevre crostini, which was nothing special. Â The sandwiches are original, but portion sizes are small while the prices are average. Â All in all, a great place to have a few beers before or after lunching somewhere else.
Review Source:Preeeeeeeeeeetentious.
Henley's does serve up tasty, refreshing food, and they do have a great selection of beer and wine. Â For your money, though, you can get just as good (and often better) food at a number of restaurants within a five-minute walk, at usually a few dollars less than the price of Henley's good, if rather simple, food.
The main draw of Henley's, of course, are the beers and wines. Â And that's about the only reason I'd choose the place over others in the area. Â If you want to sample some stuff, great. Â Go nuts. Â But it's not a place to go for a regular night out. Â Henley's isn't really what I'd call a "bar". Â It caters better, atmospherically, to business luncheons than to friends having a good time.
The staff is rather selective in who they choose to give good service to--I've been into the place in shorts and a T-shirt and been all but ignored, and I've been into the place in a collar and tie and been made very comfortable. Â Whatever. Â The management also gives off a "too good to deal with you" vibe. Â My only genuinely welcoming and helpful experience with the Henley's staff was with a girl who was on her first day working there. I guess she hadn't earned her fat head yet.
Essentially it's expensive food and alchohol, served by an off-putting staff, for people with extra cash in their pocket to blow. Â Is the product good? Yeah. Â But there's just no reason to favor Henley's over other places in town.
This place is flat-out AWESOME!!! This is one of the reasons why I love using Yelp and trust the other Yelpers out there... Was looking for a new bar in St. Augustine, so I hopped on Yelp, and JP Henley's was at the top of the list... and it's there for a good reason. Like anything else in downtown St. Augustine, parking can be a hassle. Depends on what time and what night you get down there, but expect a bit of a drive to find a spot. Once you get inside, though, it's well, WELL worth it.
There is a pretty good size bar with plenty of seats available, and also about 12 tables which seat 4 a piece. There's also some bar stools seated in front of a few windows looking out towards the Bridge of Lions, and a dining area with another 20 tables or so. Depending on when you go, you'll probably get a seat, but if you show up around 9 pm on a Friday or Saturday night, be prepared to stand, that place can get PACKED! There's quite a few flatscreen TV's spread out throughout the bar, all tuned in to different sporting events. All you have to do is ask the bartender, and they will change the channel to what you want to watch.
The food is amazing, just not much of a selection... It's pretty much just sandwiches and some appetizers, however they are f'n DELICIOUS. I had the reuben, and it was one of the best I've ever had. The crust of the bread was crunchy, the rest of the bread warm and soft, and the remainder cooked perfectly. Date had a ham and bleu cheese sub... spectacular! If you're looking for entrees, you'd best look somewhere else, but if you want some great food you can have with an ice cold beer, you'll find something, and you'll like it.
The beer and wine selection is just flat-out amazing. All I require for a five star bar is delicious Samuel Adams draft... Check. They have about 200 different bottled beers, domestic and foreign, and it's all organized on the menu based on country, so if you know what you're looking for, it should be easy to find. There's also about 50 different draft beers, and depending on what you order, come in different sizes. Want to try something new? Ask the bartender... tell them what you like, and they can recommend something new that you will most likely enjoy. There was a bunch of different wines as well, but I save that for the upscale folks.
Overall, I LOVE this place. The food was great, the beer was fantastic, and the service was spot-on. I've been in a few times, and have left completely 100% satisfied every time. I especially recommend going on a weeknight to relax with friends, have a few beers and a great sandwich. But anytime you're looking for a great time downtown, JP Henley's can't be beat.
This place was great!! Â We had the chicken cor don bleu which was great. Â They have over 50 beers on tap to choose from. Â Tried the oatmeal beer (which was bitter. Â I didn't expect oatmeal beer to be bitter) and the chocolate beer which was great either. Â But the food was good and the atmosphere was great!
Review Source:I love JP Henley's. Â It's probably one of my favorite bars, and I don't really go to bars too much. Â They have a great variety of beers both on tap and in the bottle. Â They also have a good selection of wines. Â They of course do have a full bar and serve liquor, but personally, I go for the beer. Â They have $5 beer samplers where you can try four different beers each in its own 5 oz glass, which is great when looking to try new things, and they also have some wine samplers as well.
JP Henley's can get crowded at times, especially around holidays. Â I went in to try and get a drink on Halloween and it was pretty much pointless. Â But if you get there before 8 or 9 on the average Friday or Saturday, you'll have better luck getting a seat. Â This is a highly recommended drinking spot for me.
Henley's is a great place to grab a beer, watch a game, and hang out with friends. The beer selection is wonderful and includes a large selection of both draft and bottled beers. They have a decent selection of wine as well. The staff is fantastic and very friendly. As a previous poster mentioned, the menu is fairly lightweight, so this is not necessarily the place to go for a big meal. However, if you get hungry while throwing back a few beers, they have a nice light menu and good food.
Review Source:An upscale wine and beer pub which also serves food which I can not comment on since I have never eaten there.
I can comment on their great selection of beers - Around 50 different draft beers and around 120 bottled beers you are sure to find something you like. If you are not sure or can not make up your mind they sell a sampler which comes with four smaller size glasses.
They also have flat screen TVs for your sports watching pleasure.
This place has an awesome selection of beer and wine, probably the best selection in St. Augustine. Â However they do not have any liquor. Â Sometimes it can get a little loud because of the small size of the bar area combined with the tile floors, but it is a bar and it is in a good location downtown. Â Worth a visit.
Review Source:This is one of the few pubs that I think is worth the hunt for parking. The drink selection is very good. Proper international beers as well. I'm never wanting for something to eat. They have so much that I like there, which is refreshing considering most of the town is deep fried.
They're good for groups, but you have to let them know how many you're expecting. They don't take reservations, but they can make certain allowances for the back room.
It seems laid back, but trust that the front room is college student central on weekends. Loud, packed, busy and there will be an obnoxious drunk bounced out at some point. The price is right, so it's worth it.
The reason that I did not give this place a 5 out of 5 is because the food is "light-weight".  Not much food for the money.  Otherwise, the beer selection is outstanding.  What a great find in St. Augustine.  Right aroud the corner  from A1A ,down from theCuban place.  Go and check out the beer menu.  They have wine also.,
Review Source:Not being a sports fan, I initially passed this place by because of all the big flat screens playing football and other sports related shows.
Now that I finally overlooked that, (well not overlooked because there is one from every view, but at least they are muted) I see it for what it really is: Â an awesome neighborhood pub.
I'm a pretty picky beer drinker, only the darkest of dark for me, so my recent move to the South has been a dismal bar experience. Â JP's has fifty beers on tap. Â Fifty! Â And I have a handful of darks to choose from, not just Guinness. Â And millions of bottles. Â Plus they have the same number of wines.
All the staff are very friendly, and great at their jobs. Â They make it a pleasure every time I've been there.
The food looks good, I've never had it myself though.
It is downtown so it gets tourists, but I think locals of all ages make up the core of it's business. Â Since it is on the tourist circuit, you don't get the "everyone knows everyone and who are you" attitude, which is very welcoming. Â It is lively enough to be fun, but not so rowdy it is annoying and you can't hear your friends.
Has a small smoking deck in the back, but that is the only outdoor space. Â Which is my only complaint about the place, it is Florida so you can sit comfortably outside all year around so I wish they had more outdoor seating.
Go grab a pint! Â See you there!
