Was looking for a cool night spot with live music. This wasn't it but my friend and I were tired of looking. This place is up in the cut. It was pretty late when we arrived, with only a few cars in the small parking lot adjacent to the building. Street parking is also available.
There was a small bar area towards the front of the restaurant, with table and booth seating available in a larger room beyond it. Classic R&B played in the background. A flat screen tv showed a basketball game w/ captions but no sound.
This is a soul food spot that sticks to staples such as turkey wings, fried/smothered pork chops, fried chicken, mac and cheese, yams, etc. If you're looking for high-brow fusion fare, keep looking.
My friend and I,at the suggestion of our server, ordered the turkey wings with mac and cheese and yams. Great choice. Those wings were fall off the bone tender! The sides tasted like I'd shown up to a southern grandma's house for Thanksgiving dinner. Everything was flavorful but not overly. Doesn't seem like a place that deals with a lot of substitutions.
Service was adequate. Our server was knowledgable and attentive. There were
10 other customers also being served. We didn't have long to wait for our food. The crowd that night would probably tag themselves as "grown and sexy". Lol There were a few middle aged couples, a group of women in their late 20s and a few guys catching whatever game was on.
