I really like Kiku. A lot of people rave about Osaka, but I honestly think Kiku is better.
The service feels personal. The staff are always so nice. I've eaten at the sushi bar and at the Hibachi grill. Both experiences positive. I really enjoyed their zombie roll. Hibachi was also very good. Nicely cooked steak and salmon. Ginger dressing for their salads is fairly watery.
Excellent food, good service--Thumbs up for Kiku.
The placed looked closed except for the blinking open sign in the door. The front "garden" strips were full of tall weeds. We were the only customers at 7:30pm but a family arrived just before we left. I had a specialty sushi roll that was quite good and my husband had the New York steak which came oriental style. He said it was good. I was a little hesitant to order sushi when there was no one else in the place (had they all died off?). All was well and I had a nice sushi roll for my dinner.
Review Source:My wife, 4 yr old went here on a Saturday night for mothers day. 90% of the space is for Hibachi but they are moving to a different location soon. The food is just like any other Japanese Hibachi restaurant. Soup and salad served before the meal. Â I feel like you get less food for the same price as Osaka. Osaka has a better environment as well. Overall decent. Nothing will wow you.
Review Source:The food is fantastic here. Â I had the scallops and shrimp with fried rice, phenomenal! Â The chef was very nice and very entertaining as well. Â The owners were very hospitable, and came to the table to ask how everything was. Â I enjoyed everything about it, and will return when I am in Springfield again!!
Review Source:Not impressed. Â We ate at the hibachi grill; chef was interesting but nothing I haven't seen before. Â I ordered the NY steak w/scallops. Soup was horrible - added soy and still no flavor and the durkee onion floating around was gross. Iceberg lettuce did not impress me but the ginger dressing was good, albeit runny at the bottom of bowl. Steak was okay, scallops were very good. Â We were seated in the rear room which felt like an addition while the front tables remained nearly empty through our entire meal. Â Felt like a family run restaurant but the family was disorganized & dysfunctional. Â Won't be back.
Review Source:The only reason they get 2 stars is the food. The food was fresh and tasty. The chefs put on a standard show like at any Japanese steakhouse. Â I had the shrimp and scallops and my husband had filet and lobster. Both were delicious. The salad was ok enough- it was a Ginger dressing, the one given as a dip. It was watery on the salad. The soup was average. The "shrimp appetizer" is 2 pieces of grilled shrimp.
My problem is all in the service. We had a reservation and still had to wait 30 minutes. Once seated, we didn't see the waiter for another 20. His introduction to us was "I have no idea how long you have been here. Did someone get you drinks?" It went downhill from there. Drinks and refills took forever. We had to request them multiple times. We got our salad as the chef began his show. But then as he was plating our food, we got the soup. The people next to us never got salad! Our check came as soon as the chef walked away. I don't know why that was rushed but everything else was painfully slow.
I don't know that we would return as the service was so poor.
3 and 1/2 and thats just the sushi.
Went there twice during their first week so I'm willing to over look the flaws in service. Suffice it to say the service was not good but as I said it was still early. Did not eat at one of the teppanyaki tables but did have a variety of sushi that was as good as it gets in Springfield. If your in town and lookin for a fix of sushi this is where you need to go. Its better that Osaka , they have a prettier restaurant though. Miles and miles better that Pao , that place is just sad. So sad that I'm going to give it a one star when I'm done here. Bottom Line: You are in Springfield. you want sushi. You go to Kiku.
If you want good sushi that is reasonably priced, this is the ONLY place in Springfield I would go to. Â The service was excellent, and the sushi chef was clearly well trained. Â I have enjoyed sushi all over the US, and this place is average for most big cities. Â Springfield has no decent sushi restaurants, we have eaten at Pao, and Indigo and the food and service was so terrible I wouldn't ever go back for sushi. Â That being said if you don't know what sushi is and can't tell fresh fish from not so fresh, you might be happy eating the garbage at these places.
Review Source:Kiku wasn't good, but it wasn't bad. Â The restaurant itself is pretty nice, but it was absolutely freezing when I was there. Â I'm typically hot, and I was so uncomfortably cold I wanted to leave. Â I ordered sushi here, and it was just okay... nothing spectacular. Â If I was in the area and wanted sushi, I wouldn't be opposed to getting Kiku. Â However, I wouldn't go out of my way.
