I showed up with a group from work; we were a large group (about 12 of us) so we excused some slowness but 10 minutes went by without so much as our drink order being taken. When our waiter did come over he apologized for the slow service and stated that 5 employees had been laid off due to... Yelp reviews. Ironic.
Judging from the food, the layoffs should've started in the kitchen. The steak tips I had were the worst I've ever had. And I have a lot of steak tips in a lot of places smart people wouldn't order them. The beer selection was very limited, which was disappointing considering the size of the bar and glut of great beers available in Chicago.
I requested that the bar put a game on the TV when they switched to the wrong channel I went up to and asked for the specific channel and was told no, because it was on the channel they had turned it to. Spoiler alert: it wasn't. When the bar staff finally switched it to the correct channel, they switched it back before the third period of a tied playoff hockey game. When I asked them to move the game to a different TV, they agreed... and then never obliged.
Ironically, our server - though overworked - was great. He was friendly, apologetic, and got the orders in correctly. Unfortunately the kitchen delivered the appetizers before the entrees.
I'm thinking whoever DID the firing should've been the one who GOT fired. But that waiter in charge.
