La Kebrada

This is based on a few quick order of tacos, which might not be representative of their surprisingly expansive menu. But they cant be doing too bad otherwise, and they need to get their name out there. I know this much: the food is fresh and they make everything from scratch. Even the tortillas. An amorphous blob of masa is constantly in plain view of the counter, getting pieces torn off and made into freshly cooked taco envelopes.

Speaking of which, the tacos are fantastic. Sure, they make your decent everyday fast food carne asada (with the meat excellently crisped) but do yourself a favor and go straight for the pastor. Not greasy at all, the pork is in that scrumptious midpoint between tender and tough, just solid enough to sink your teeth into. It's mostly dominated by this delicious "roasted" chili flavor, perfectly accompanied by bittersweet onion and a dash of cilantro.

I have to admit my rating is a bit inflated...I would've taken off more for the lack of air conditioning, which I think keeps a lot of customers from hanging around and trying some of their more involved cooking. But consider this - they survived on that seemingly cursed area on Paulina for a while now, despite not getting large orders a lot, and the above mentioned lack of air conditioning. I think this is telling of their quality, and I will definitely be back to try a bigger plate sometime soon.
