Went again last night, had to post this, this food is SO DELICIOUS!.... The restaurants sister is Carlos & Carlos in Arlington Hts. Â Which is Fabulous! Â I don't think people know they opened one here in Niles. Â There location is a tad tricky but OMG the food is amazing. Â The staff is so nice and they all work as a team, so your never hunting for 'your' waiter. Â Everyone just helps out. Â Different and it works. Last night they had a filet on special, it's now my new favorite, crazy good.
Review Source:I waited and went back as promised. Â Once again the staff was extremely helpful especially when they noticed that any alcohol beverage at the table was less than half full. Â My taste buds desperately wanted to love the food. Â It is so close to my house and Niles does not have an innovative go to restaurant. Â Alas it still does not. Â Mind you the place is not bad but we have a number of average spots like Amici and Riggios.
So, we went on a Saturday night and the dining area was only half full and stayed that way for the entire evening. Â After reviewing the menu my taste buds took control of my vocal chords and ordered an expensive salmon special. Â They told me that it afforded them the best opportunity to be so stimulated that they would lick the plate clean. Â It was evident that if I did not go along, I would spend the rest of the evening choking on my tongue. Â The food arrived the taste buds eagerly awaited as the fork pierced the fish and the eyes whispered to the brain, why is it so mushy. Â I looked again to make sure I didn't hit the mashed potato by mistake. Â As the forkful hit the tongue, the eager cry of anticipation went from ahhhhhh to awwwww. Â While the flavor was not bad the buds could not come to grip with the texture. Â I did eat the entire serving but it was not the special event the buds had hoped for. Â The others at the table agreed that the food was good but not special. Â
When the owner stopped by the table to ask how the food was, I bit my tongue and said fine. Â Looking back, I believe the tongue bite was just me getting even with the taste buds.
If a group were to be heading there and invited me, I would not object but if I were planning the outing this would not be my go to spot.
We have lived two minutes from here for over a year and never ventured into this restaurant. To begin , they offer free valet parking which is a relief as the area does not really allow for street parking. The atmosphere is one of elegance but at the same time familiar and friendly not uptight or snooty. Â
We were pleasantly surprised by the menu, friendly and professional staff and the great Friday night entertainment. The prices are reasonable, the lobster ravioli made with fresh home made pasta was Devine and the dessert was delicious. The only thing I would have liked was a more extensive wine menu.
We had a wonderful dinner at La Tavola; we had the lasagna and the filet mignon, rapini gnoochi. Â The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. Dirty martini's are great! Â I also happened to be looking for a private room for a business dinner and Mario and Pedro were a delight to work with.
Review Source:I don't usually try a new restaurant on NYE but a friend had been here and recommended it. Â I am so glad she did! Â From the beginning to end, things could not have been better. Â The staff was very attentive without being overbearing. Â I had the Pasta Luigi. Â It wasn't on the menu but the server introduced it. Â Angel hair pasta, shrimp, scallops in a garlic aliolio. Â It was delicious! Â It was a wonderful, relaxed dinner with friends which couldn't have been more comfortable. Â The owner was a constant presence in the dining room and personally thanked us for visiting. Â I can't wait to return!
Review Source:where do i start. i have been going to restaurants at this location for about 30 years, mostly when it was rossini's and never had a bad meal. since rossini closed, a number of other
restaurants have tried their luck, italian or greek and none of them lasted very long. this new venue is probably the last in this sorry list. let me tell you why. my party of four arrived on time for our reservation and imagine our suprise upon seeing only a handful of tables occupied, it was 6:45 and that is always a bad sign. we had to eat our meal with our coats on because of the chilly temperature. three times it was brought to the attention of the server who assured us that it was being looked into.
we then were the object of a succesion of four or five different people , none of which seemed to know what they were doing, but all of them were friendly to a fault. i was the last to order and what i wanted was not on the menu, fettuchini alfredo but i was assured that i would get it. i have never been in an italian resttuarant and not seen it on the menu. when it finally arrived i found the pasta far from tender, the sauce watery and the shrimp tough. i could go on but you get it i am sure. on the plus side, we received a free salad, pleanty of attention from a lot of people, waitstaff, host, cook/chef, and the guy who parked the car. when we left to get into our warm cars, it was as cold as it was upon our arrival. never again, there are just too many other italian locations where you really feel satisfied when leaving. bring back rossini !
Wonderful restaurant. My family of 4 enjoyed a tasty meal tonight. We had spaghetti w seafood, veal piccatta, penne w chick and homemade lasagna. All were delicious and satisfying. Also had live music w 3 piece band was wonderful. Soup or salad came with it and service was excellant. They have party rooms for 10-50.
Review Source:This restaurant is a hidden gem! Excellent homemade food! Comfortable ambiance and attentive wait staff.
The plain exterior belies an interior that is very nicely decorated with a sophisticated Italian theme. There is good room between tables and service is attentive but not cloying. The food is fabulous! Try homemade ravioli or seafood pasta - all done very well. The pasta is made on the premises and it shows. Good wine list and comfortable surroundings make it easy to settle in.
Location is challenging the first time you go, but makes sense as soon as you see it. The restaurant is on the northwest corner of Milwaukee and Dempster. Don't use the underpass on Dempster because the restaurant is above on the local lane. Parking in the rear can be accessed via westbound Dempster or southbound Milwaukee. If it's crowded, use valet.
Would also recommend it for anyone having guests come from the airport as it is just 15 minutes away. A nice stopping off point after a day of travel. Mangia!
.
Happy, Happy, Happy! I've been heading out to the suburbs a lot lately, checking out locations to host some singles parties and was told by a friend to check out La Tavola. So glad I did!
The food was yummy, the bread was nice and warm and my server was attentive. The parking sucked- and I hate doing Valet, but was lucky enough to have someone pulling out right when I did my second drive around!
A fellow matchmaker came with to view locations with me and she was impressed with the food, service and ambiance of the location.
Looks like we'll be hosting a party here soon! (Fingers crossed they aren't already booked for the Holiday rush!)
I have lived in Niles for 22 years and I am so pleased that rossinis was replaced with an even better restaurant. I feel like Niles needed a truly great italian restaurant and la tavola has fit the bill. I dined there two nights ago and my first impression of the inside was that it is very intimate. It has beautiful new decor inside and outside. The waiter was so nice, entertaining , and gave great recommendations on what to order. I ordered the lobster ravioli , which was to die for. The pasta was homemade stuffed with a ton of lobster yummm  ,the sauce was rich and decadent , and the sun dried tomatoes were the best!  We had the homemade bread pudding that was melt in your mOuth. The owner came to our table and talked with us a bit and found out great history about the restaurant and its owners. I couldn't be happier with this new addition to the neighborhood. I will definately be dining here frequently. I highly recommend la tavola !!!!!
Review Source:I think I agree with Michael C. This place could possibly hold its own after many failures since Rossinis closed down. It's a much better replacement than Rossinis but also a little more expensive. The food is delicious and the manager was extremely friendly. My family and i will definitly be going back again if we're in the mood for Italian.
Review Source:Seems like this location of "rotating restaurants" in Niles may finally hold it's own.
The new restaurant, LaTavola Trattoria, finally opened on May 10th. I was watching the preliminary opening work (I work down the street) and it was first billed as "Carlos & Carlos Restaurant." Now it's La Tavola. Oh well, names do change quickly here, Toto.
The food was average for an Italian restaurant. The atmosphere was average also. But again, it's nice to see another eatery here since Rossini's folded years ago and the other two Greek restaurants that were here quickly came and went.
When I called to ask about reservations, it seemed like everyone was trying to answer the phone: "Hangup, I got it!" was yelled several times while I was on the phone. AFter the initial scramble, the man on the phone recommended reservations on the weekend, but Mon-Fri was pretty much walk-in.
