So me and my friends went here for a night of fun... I think not!!! the entertainers were amateurs and beside me and my two friends, we were the only ones there. And to top it off we had to pay to get in as well as pay to sit down (in an empty club!!!).
I will not get suckered into this place again!!
Yeeeaa. Ummmm. Legend Nightclub? What an experience....to say the least. Â
I'm not from DC, but go to school out here, and my friends and I are trying our hardest to go everywhere in DC before we graduate. lol. We had been saying we want to go to Legend one night because they always talk about it on the radio. We went on the website and refused to go on an 18+ night. So one Friday night we were bored and decided we would try it out, and it was free until midnight. We also knew it was in the hood, and people from out here continuously told us that, but what does that really mean? We aren't going to stay in NW forever for fear of going to the "hood."
The arrival:
We pull up, the club has its own parking lot which is great. You don't have to worry about paying for parking. We see a long line and stand on it in the freezing cold at about 11:10. When I tell you that we moved about 5 feet by 11:30, I'm not exaggerating. So we're standing there in the freezing cold just waiting someone would feel bad and start letting some people in. There was a "VIP" line directly next to us that was going right in. It was freezing and we were getting nowhere fast, we knew we weren't gonna get in by 12. So we paid either 15 or 20 to get in through the VIP line. We walk up, pay our money and then are directed to take a seat [while we're still outside]. Next, we are instructed to take our shoes off. If you didn't know previously, the moment you were told to take your shoes off you should have realized what type of spot you were about to step into. So the security proceeds to shake our shoes out and feel the bottom of our feet. They do a thorough check of our bras and everywhere else. Seem like she was trying to cop a feel because some people were "checked" for a little longer. Whatever the case was, we fixed our bras and walked in.
The Club:
We walked into what looked like a skinny sports bar without the tables and with a stage. There were a whole bunch of posters and things on the wall. I mean it wasn't the nicest place, but I wasn't focused on that, we just wanted to have a good time. The bathroom was surprisingly decent/nice, not what I expected. There was also a basement where there was another dj where you could party. But before you reached that, of course there was a backdrop where the infamous group pictures were taken. I know Legend is also a restaurant, but I don't know if I was expecting men to be walking up the stairs smashing a fried chicken wing.
The crowd:
Well this is definitely a local spot. Don't expect the crowd you see at Love or any of the other well-known clubs in DC. This was a 21+ night, I would say the crowd ranged from about 20-30. The place was definitely packed and also like 3 fights. Yes, there were fights but the security did a great job getting them out before they could get a chance to really fight.
The overall party experience:
On Fridays, they have a go go band performing. I forgot what band it was, but they were real good. Everyone was just having a good time. If you've never experienced a go go, they are really live. I'm sure I don't know much about them, I've only been to like 4, but I always have a real good time. I didn't drink anything [there] so I can't comment on the drinks or prices. It was definitely a different experience than what I've had in DC. I thought I had been to hood spots in DC, but this definitely surpassed them all. With that being said, I still had a really good time and I would probably go back in the future.
For the record, I went on a Saturday night & before that night I've never been to a club before, so I have nothing to compare this place to. We arrived at almost 11, so that we could get in free before midnight. The line wasn't too long, but for a while nothing was moving, so I assumed they were holding up the line. And the guy was taking forever to check IDs. But we still managed to get in around 11:30 or so. When we got in, it was still kinda empty up and downstairs and no one was really dancing. And I thought it was going to be the type of place where everyone just stands around, looking pretty. But as the night went on, more and more people started dancing. There were some people who just stood on the fringes, but that was mostly guys. Speaking of guys, I thought they were gonna be extremely aggressive with the touching and grabbing, but it wasn't too bad. But that may be due to the fact that I don't dance with guys with my butt in their lap and my face to the floor. Â The downstairs is smaller and so once everyone got to dancing, it got hot quick but they have couches down there so you can rest. And the drinks were delicious. My friend bought my drinks but I assume they were about $6-9 dollars depending on what you get. The music was okay too. Mostly stuff you here on the radio and towards the end of the night, they started playing some old, slow songs. I heard some repeats but that was because we kept switching from the upstairs to the downstairs. I only give it a 3 because I enjoyed myself what with the good drinks and friends but not necessarily because of the place.
