Bartenders are scum bags. They've tried to rip off me and my friends several times. When you go to close your open tab, they assume you're drunk and tack on like 6 more drinks than you actually ordered. You remind them drink by drink and they pretend to have made a mistake. Absolute scum
Review Source:Legends is a college and 20's something bar, plain and simple. It's not the sports bar for the good ole boys. Â Weekends and some week days alike can be filled with the ghetto and frat boys all trying to score a dime lady.
It has two or maybe three floors??.. I swear everytime I go here it's like I advance up another level, and I discover a new bar and another story.
Drinks are relatively cheap and for the ladies, you have a decent chance of scoring yourself freebies from hungry dudes...just be careful and stay in your she-wolf-packs.
Overall not a bad stop if you are drifting through Lark street. I dont remember them ever having a cover so try it out, its not bad. Â Very roomy inside and often each floor has different selections of music playing. Never a long wait for drinks either which is a major upgrade
Legends is loud, and the clientele is not encouraged to behave. Â I've been elbowed out of the way at the bar more times than I've actually managed to order drinks. Â Also one of the few places I've had to stand with a $20 bill in my hand for fifteen minutes while waiting for another patron's drink order (for two drafts) to be filled.
I've also been there at the same time as a private party, which was even worse than the other times. Â Rude, drunk sorority girls and frat boys who felt entitled to the entire bar, even though it was open to other patrons.
The upstairs is much, much better than the first level, and the downstairs is small and crowded but okay.  I liked the DJ on the second floor and had a good time dancing. Given the melée downstairs, I haven't had a good enough experience to give more stars.  If a friend manages to drag me back, I'll be open under and hope for a better experience.
Basically, great if you're 21 (or into sports enough to be able to tune it out), awful if you're not.
Warning: expect to be assaulted by the big bouncer (Terrance) at the door and his brother, who may or may not be employed there.
Late August 2011, three friends and I decided to try this place. Â Bouncer asked for my ID, I gave it to him, he asked me to leave and didn't give the ID back. Â When I asked him why, he yelled 'Get the fuck out of my bar', picked me up, and threw me down the stairs, bumping my head on the wall on the way down.
Bouncer: 300+ lbs. Â Me: 160 lbs. Â Do the math.
It didn't end there. Â
The bouncer decided to continue the issue outside the establishment and onto the sidewalk, allowing his brother to join in. Â As he still had my ID, I asked for it back. Â When he refused, I reminded him I'd press charges for possession of stolen property. Â He quickly gave it back.
Called the police. Â They were awesome, quick to respond, took my statement, reviewed the surveillance (intelligent Terrance should probably have not admitted he even had any), and filed the report.
Owner was quick to respond to my complaint the next day. Â Very apologetic, offered gift certificates (which I admit I probably won't use, but the thought counts), and promised Terrance the Liability would be dealth with.
Each of the handful of times I've visited, the main bar area is generally filled with frat boys and young men still trying to be. Â Not really an enjoyable atmosphere for adults - but they're hitting their target demographic - so good for them. Â But not a bar I enjoy being in for long periods of time. Â
Having said all that, I give Legend's four stars because I recently discovered an up-side. Â I bought a Groupon they were selling and went for a late night snack in the UPstairs dining area. Â 4 stars for the variety of options on their menu, the low prices, the friendly service, as well as the quantity and most of all, quality of the food. Â Add to this, they offer $2 drafts during the Yankee/Met/RedSox games all summer! Â
Legends is set up like a big family get together at the holidays - keep the kids downstairs, give the adults good food and sports upstairs... and everyone will be happy.
Despite the fact that the Yankees are on a losing streak that better end sooner rather than later, my girl friends and I felt like "Winning" when we went here for a bite a and pint. Â
This would be a 3 star review as the burger I had was average (the got it medium rare, so that was good, but my friend's veggie burger was a garden burger out of the freezer section), BUT they have $2 tap specials during Yankees and Mets games (coors light, heni light, and seasonals) so that drink special alone gets an extra star. Â My burger was juicy and cooked correctly. Â Their homemade chips were tasty. Â Our 3rd table mate got the artichoke spinach dip and a ceasar salad. Â I forgot to ask her how it was, but she ate all of it, so I assume it was good. Â Sam Summer Ale was on tap and it was $2 so 2 of the 3 of us were happy. Â
i believe this place is also owned by the same guy that owns Justin's and DeJohns and oddly enough I like this place the best. Â They are what they are and don't try to be anything else. Â And they do it well. Â
Its loud. Â Thumping actually. Â I wouldn't mind if they turned the music down (or off) and actually had the sound for the game on, in fact I would like that. Â
There are 3 floors (top is a few tables and dart board, middle is the "dinning room" with a small bar LOTS of tvs, and about 8-10 4 top tables, and down stairs is my living nightmare of walls of tvs and lots of patrons wearing UFC tee shirts, and packed in like sardines). Â We sat in the middle level. Â The waitress was efficient and it was busy; from sitting down to cashing out was about 1 hour (we dawdled to watch the end of the pitiful Yankees-RedSox's game.
Long and the short, I will be back for the $2 drink specials and hopefully next time the Yankees will not be playing T-Ball.
================================
I thought I lost my watch there on the same night that I was there for a bite and a pint. Â While I left a voice message that went unreturned for 24 hours, I did call a second time and the lady who answered the phone was very helpful. Â She asked what my watch looked like and went and looked for it while I was on the phone. Â I appreciated that. Â
I found my watch. Â It was folded up in the knickers I am packing for my vacation. Â Why I did that I don't know. Â I'd say I should lay off the pints, but I only had one that evening. Â At least I found it and now I know they are a helpful bunch at Legends as well. Â Thank you.
I considered giving Legends a higher rating simply because I'm a severely tough judge of bars, but I decided against it. Â Yelp is all about me and my opinion, and it is what it is.
Legends didn't do anything terribly, horribly wrong. Â It did not kick me, spit on me or call my mother a whore. But I probably won't go back... unless it's a loved one's dying wish, or maybe their birthday or something.
The Good:
The bathroom was spotless, which was particularly impressive on a Saturday night. Â There are many flat screen TVs featuring various shades of sporting events. Â The staff I encountered were all very pleasant. Â Also, the crowd was a nice mix of people. Â Yes, about 75% sausages, but a range of ethnicity and age. Â My personal favorite patron of the evening was a nicely dressed 60ish African-American fellow living it up and dancing his little heart out. Â I could have pinched him, he was so flipping cute. Â
The Bad:
Although there are three levels with a bar on each of the first two levels, the bar upstairs is very limited. Â They had only two beers on tap, no sour mix, and who knows what else they were lacking. Â Unfortunately, the first floor with the full bar consists of only a few stools and mostly just standing room, while the second level has tables for those who want to sit and eat. Â The group I was here with went upstairs to utilize the tables. Â Yes, I could have ventured downstairs each time I wanted a drink to take advantage of the selection, but it was just inconvenient. Â Who wants to carry a round of drinks through a crowd and up a flight of stairs? Â Not me.
And The Ugly:
The noise level here was pretty bad, particularly given that the place was not packed wall-to-wall when I was there. Â I know a lot of people go to a bar to simply see and be seen, but if you want to have a conversation, particularly if you want to exchange words with more than one person at a time, forget about it. Â By as early as 10pm it was necessary to scream directly into a person's ear for them to hear you. Â The bartenders at Legends must be schooled in lipreading. Â Kudos to them. Â
So, all things considered, Legends is certainly not horrible when stacked up against the other bars in Albany. Â It has some good things going for it - it was very clean; nice staff; a respectable group of patrons. Â I could see this as a decent happy hour place, assuming they have a smaller crowd at that time with a lower volume and better access to the bartenders on the first floor. Â
Good God, I'm getting old.
I am giving this place 3 stars because when I went all their draft beers (domestic or imported) were $2.50.
The bar was kind of empty, we went to the second level and it took the waitress about 5 minutes to even come up, something which would have been understandable if the bar was full. Â once she made it, the beers were up quickly and nachos were pretty good, however it was a while until she made it back up.
I am not sure if it had to do with the fact that it was MLK, but I wasn't  too impressed.  I do recommend it to other people and I will go back in the future, since maybe they were having an off day...
As a multi-level bar, you can decide what group you want to hang out with.
Lower level= bar scene, no seating
mid level= seating & tables, food, a bar with a few stools, lots of TVs
upstairs by the bathrooms= a few tables, 3 tvs.
The only problem is, if you want to LISTEN to the game, you have to sit up by the bathrooms and ask the bartender to turn the game audio on... you can't hear the game audio anywhere else in this bar. FYI.
I like the chicken taco salad, even though I can never finish it. Beer specials are pretty good. Being a sports bar the wings could definitely be better. My biggest complaint is the layout of the bar, there is very little seating and always feels crowded even when there are only 12 people there.
Review Source:This is a place I wished had been around when I was in college. Of course, I wasn't interested in sports then so I probably wouldn't have gone anyways. Now I can appreciate the excellent Bloody Mary's, the dazzling array of flat screen TVs and the football fandom. I have rarely seen so many different football jerseys in one place on a Sunday.
Overall, this is a grand place to go to watch a football game, especially if your game is getting the speaker priority.
I've been meaning to get to this place for awhile and I finally got to check it out last Saturday. Â I was quite pleased to find that I really liked Legends. Â With three floors and plenty of big, widescreen televisions, it was a perfect place to have a bite and enjoy a few beers, while watching a game. Â The menu is casual sports bar type fare - pizzas, wings, hot dogs, etc. Â The onion rings were awesome and the pizza really hit the spot. Â I'll certainly be coming back to Legends in the future.
Review Source:Who knew I'd like a sports bar so much?
Legends is yet another one of John DeJohn's incarnations on Lark Street. It's also surprisingly good. The atmosphere is usually relaxed, and there's a variety of stuff on the bajillion flat-screen TVs - from bass fishing to football.
The drink specials are pretty good too. Beers are a good buy if you're out on a weekend night and don't want to pay $5 a piece.
The girlier drinks are around $5 or so, but reeaallly tasty.
There's about 3 levels to this place, which make it a bit funky, but also kind of fun.
The bathrooms are also really clean  - yay!
