We hadn't been to the now Lemont Street Café for a few years but returned this morning.  It was good!  The farmer's breakfast was it's usual tasty self, and D enjoyed her crepes and even the tea.  The Very Berry Explosion was delightful as usual.  The coffee seems to have improved a notch.  Service was good and down-home.  We'll be back again!
Review Source:After having breakfast earlier in the week, we decided to try their Friday night fish fry. Â We weren't disappointed. Â We chose a special, the grouper, and enjoyed very much. Â We arrived about 5:30 and the restaurant was quite busy, but with mostly an older crowd. Nothing wrong with that...older folk know prices and quality. Â By the time we left, the families started coming in with their kids. Â This restaurant just generates good vibes. Â Clean, pleasant, friendly and inexpensive. Â Good food too.
Review Source:We went in for my daughters 19 B-Day party on a Friday night. There was 6 of us.
The food terrible. Everyone got the fish fry except for me I got the flank steak.
Mine was tough and chewy and cold. Everyone who ordered the fish fry was treated to greasy, greasy, greasy under cook fish, shrimps that tasted like they had been out for 2 weeks before cooking. We all got the potato pancakes, what a mistake. They tasted like they had been in the same place the shrimps where.Needless to say we all left hugry. The service was aweful, she got at least 4 things wrong never a sorry or thank you or a smile for that matter. I could go on but what would be the point. Oops one more thing, frozen veggies that were so under cooked they were cold. I use to go to place a lot but never again. This was my third bad meal at The Lemont Street Cafe and my last.
They ruined my daughters party. But that's ok we had a BIG SURPRISE party for her later so she didn't even care, but I did!!!
Me and my 4 year old went here for breakfast for the first time. I was hesitant to eat here because of the mixed reviews. Oh well, just have to try the place. Unfortunately, my review of this place won't give it kudos.
I had the biscuits and gravy. The gravy tasted bland with minuscule bits of sausage, but I did taste the specs of black pepper. The biscuits tasted like they were warmed in the microwave and slopped with gravy out-of-can. My son had the chocolate chip pancakes. It looked burned and some chocolate chips. At least it was warm and with melted butter. He had some bites of it then was placed  aside. He usually eats alot, but not this time. Maybe it was an off day as another yelper mentioned. Ehhh, I don't think so...
I will usually try a place a second time, but not here.
Our only regret is that we didn't find this place sooner! Â My wife and I gave it a try for lunch. Â They must know how to treat their employees, because they have some of the friendliest wait staff we've ever encountered. Â The food was excellent - and you get so much for so little! Â
It doesn't matter if you come here for breakfast, lunch, or [Friday nights only] dinner. Â Oh, if only they were also open for dinner! Â We were told that everything, right down to the ranch dressing, is made fresh daily. Â It shows! Â Everything tastes as good, if not better, than if you had your mom making your favorite meals for you. Â
Let's start with breakfast. Â They have all of the standard items: eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, french toast. Â What you won't find here are burritos, sandwiches, and other modern takes on breakfast. Â But you will find a unique listing of omelets, benedicts, and other breakfast combos. Â Everything is cooked just right - no overly greasy food, no sausage too spicy, no syrup too sweet, no eggs too salty. Â Just food done right.
Lunch is great, too. Â DEFINITELY check out the specials on the dry-erase board behind the counter. Â My wife loved the chicken stir-fry. Â But whether it's just a sandwich or comfort food, it's all good. Â The quality is definitely there.
Stop in and just try not to come back for more! Â Good luck getting a seat - it's a small dining room, and although there can be a wait, it's never too long--and always worth it.
We were so glad to discover that the original cook at the Lemont Street Cafe (that was in Darien where Jam 'n Jelly is now) reopened in the strip mall on the northeast corner of 75th/Lemont. Â The menu is the same and the quality is, too! Â The servers are all very friendly - and they remember prior customers from the old location. Â Everything we've ordered has been great - and comes out of the kitchen FAST! Â We had really missed them when they had closed at the other location. Â Highly recommended!
Review Source:The food here could be called classic American fare with a good mix of original recipes. Â You can have excellent bacon and eggs and HBs, or you can opt for something like the oatmeal pancakes I had this morning. Â They were exactly as I wanted them, light (for oatmeal), browned perfectly, sweet and with a high level of oatmeal flavor. Service is always tops, and meals come out surprisingly fast!!
Review Source:The best breakfast in the Chicago area, hands down. Â Top quality ingredients are used, and the food is always good, never dissapoints. The best hash browns i've ever had. Awesome pancakes, and one of the very few restaurants to use homeade corn beef hash, not canned.
The staff is friendly, and the owners are great. Â Everyone we have brought here loves it.
Keep up the good work!
I am always a happy camper when the pancakes come to me nice and hot and the butter melts. Â Why is that sooooooo difficult to accomplish?
My husband's eggs were under cooked, but he slopped those babies right up anyway.
Nice employees, clean, and very reasonable prices. Â Much better prices than the breakfast place just across the street.
Beware, you cannot see this place if you are heading north on Lemont. Â Turn in at Fuddruckers, it faces north.
