Only reason I gave it three stars was the food. Service gets a solid zero!! Still waiting for bread and well into our entree. Had to ask for silverware. Are you kidding me?? A lot of people would never bother with this place again, but the food is really good. Dam shame!! She also forgot my soup, but did have the good sense to leave it off the bill. Not terribly clean today, either, considering it was really slow.
Review Source:The food was delivered promptly, but somehow wasn't hot. I think I would have really enjoyed it if it had been hot.
Mainly, I'm put out because I ordered lunch while at place of employment, which happens to be a wireless service store. The delivery guy had the audacity to ask me if it was time for his "free upgrade."
First of all, where do you ever get a free phone with a non-contract company unless you're starting out with new service? If you want something handed to you, go to a store where they'll make you sign for a 2 year contract so you can get your free phone.
Most importantly, come in on your own time and ask for free stuff, not while my already lukewarm food gets colder. Thanks.
If I get food from here again, I'll be sure to dine in, so I can make sure my food it hot and so I don't have to see this delivery guy again.
Stopped at Leona's last night before a show at the BAC. Â No hostess to seat us but instead, servers kept coming up to check on the line at the door and almost gave our long awaited table to another party. Â Got our table and menus and everything went downhill from there. Â
When server finally showed to take our drink order, she told us it was her first night and that they were really busy even though restaurant was just 1/2 full. Â After drinks arrived, she took our order and double checked to make sure it was right. Â Bread finally came but no plates. We ordered a second round of drinks but she only brought 2 of the 3 drinks requested. Â Also, no frosted mugs for the beers as the server said that there weren't any clean ones.
Much, much later, we cornered the server and told her we needed our food immediately as show was starting in 15 minutes. Â She said food was still not ready but then showed up with the main course in moments. Â Never brought the salads, never brought the extra side that she had specifically asked my husband about. Â Husbands ate and rushed over to BAC for the show. Â My friend & I stayed to finish our meals at a bit slower pace. Â I told server all the problems and asked her to ask her manager if there would be something she could do about the bill. Â Server came back to say that she could not locate her manager and could not do anything about the bill. Â I finally convinced her to give us deserts to go in place of salads and side that never showed. Â
In my opinion, very, very bad management. Â A first day server should have been considered in training and had management oversight to make sure all went well. Â We will never go back to this Leona's and would warn all others to avoid it as well. Â However, since food is so good, perhaps other locations are better managed and worth a try.
I wish I could give zero stars! Â I am blown away by the lack of competence of this place. Â We ordered food here at 2:30 to get "lunch" at our school for report card pick up day. Â At 4pm....when our lunch time was over, we called and were told that the computers had gone down and our order hadn't been entered yet. Â After a lot of back and forth they said they would lower the price, get it made it 15 minutes and get it right out to us. Â Yeah, at 5:30....yes, that's right 5:30, they finally arrived with the food which contained one and half of the FOUR orders we made. Â The last manager we spoke with did try to be much more helpful than anyone else we had spoken with, but at that point there was no way to get the food to us before the day was done. Â Ended up having the delivery guy come back and give us the money back....which he tried to shortchange. Â Wow!!!!!!!
Review Source:My boyfriend and I were in there today (Saturday) for lunch. It was not all that crowded for a Saturday afternoon. Our waitress was terrible. It took 20 minutes before she came to the table to ask us what we wanted to order and we had not even been offered anything to drink. I had asked for a diet coke and my boyfriend a coke. His was wrong when it came to the table. We had one set of silverware that had 2 forks in it and nothing else. Our waitress never bothered to bring over more silverware or napkins. My boyfriend and I were sharing a napkin. I eventually got up to steal the silverware and napkins off of another table that was empty next to us. Everyone else in the restaurant had bread on their table and was being offered more when it was gone. I had to ask for bread which was brought out with our meal. The waitress never came back to ask us how we were or to refill our drinks. A meal that should have taken about an hour and half had taken about two and a half hours due to her lack of knowledge about how a waitress should service people. We will never go back there and will not recommend anyone else to go there either
Review Source:Not sure what's up with this location...but I think its time for Leona to crack the whip. Have been here on a few occasions and each time we end up waiting unusually long to be seated (once we waited a solid 15 minutes to be seated despite the place being nearly empty, should've walked out). After getting past that phase...more waiting around for a server to acknowledge your existence. And even once they've taken your order expect to wait some more for that food to come back, for an usually long time.
It's a shame since the food is pretty tasty. I suggest you take a trip out to the Oak Lawn location instead. Much better service and attentive staff over there.
aawesome place. Just moved back and had a craving for the wings and pizza. Was told delivery was about 45 minutes to an hr but my food came to my home in 30 minutes! Hot and fresh. Will be doing business again soon! Hats off to the entire establishment from the delivery Guy to the kitchen and to the person who took my order.
Review Source:I have lived in the Southside area for years, unfortunately we are not known for amazing variety as far as restaurants are concerned, we are a pizza neighborhood.
Leona's has disappointed me to such a degree that I found it an insult to the neighborhood.
Let me start this out by saying, this was not an isolated event, but merely the straw that broke the camels back. Over the last year or so Leona's service, food, takeout/pickup, has become increasingly disappointing. Quality of food and customer relations need some serious attention.
- More dirty tables than clean when walking in
- Ordered lasagna and it took the waitress close to 20 min to come back and tell us they were out of it.
- Waited an additional 25-30 minutes for our second order
- Our dirty dishes were never cleared from in front of us
- Empty drinks
- My food arrived, and after looking at it and one bite later, discovered the pasta had been microwaved, and then cold sauce dumped on top of it. I never knew Pasta was supposed to be crunchy!!!! Seriously? Sent it back. Had the waitress remove it from the bill.
- Boyfriends food was at least hot, but the chicken was dried up and hardly edible, I have never seen my boyfriend not clear his plate.
- Buzzers and alarms going off in the kitchen (no one is doing anything)
Lazy bussers. Lazy manager (standing around doing nothing with a disgusting mess of a restaurant surrounding him)
Only 2 waitresses, busting booty, hustling all over the place with absolutely no help from either the staff or manager when absolutely everything was going wrong.
I have never had a restaurant make me angry, but sitting there with my boyfriend, having to defend my neighborhood, " babes, not all the restaurants down here are like this" But obviously Leona's is. I would rather they close now, than continue to perform in such a manner as this, in all reality, damaging the reputation of the neighborhood.
Very disgusted.
To whom it may concern, (or , as it appeared last night, " to whom it may not concern")
The date and time of our visit: 2/27/12 8:30ish
I have dined in at this location probably 10 times in the last 5 years. Â I always have enjoyed the food. Â I can't think of any complaints on the food at all...always pretty good, good presentation and decent portions. Â It is not GREAT Italian, but not bad either. Â I always get the calamari as an appetizer and have had several different options for entrees off the menu. Â I have had a couple different lasagnas, chicken sandwiches and pastas. Â All good. Â Had a salad once which was actually pretty filling and seemed very fresh. Â Kid friendly...have crayons, kids menu, highchairs, etc. Â Sometimes I leave here thinking I had a great meal and great service. Â Others...not so much. Â Once they served me a glass of red wine that was not room temperature, as it should be...but warm. Â Like it was microwaved. Â I drink red wine all the time and know it is suppose to be room temp, but when I explained to the waitress that it was actually really warm and didn't want it, she looked at me like I must be a hillbilly. Â Then another server I know there told me that the wine is sometimes stored by something (forgot) that makes it warm so maybe they should stop doing that! Â DUH! Â Also, the last time I went (in Jan '12) we walked in and there was no hostess to seat us. Â We waited a minute and then a server who was obviously stoned out of his mind came up and sat us. Â We had a baby and he didn't get a highchair or anything for her until we said something. Â Aside from those minor incidents, the service is usually decent and the food doesn't take too long. Â I like the atmosphere and trivia pursuit cards on the table for conversation if needed. Â Plenty of parking...there are 2 lots. Â One just north of the restaurant, the other just west of the restaurant (entrance on 111th St) that I did not know existed until recently.
Review Source:Typical for the Leona's corporation, this restaurant offers a good variety of menu choices, all of which are tasty. Â And if for some reason they're out of something, they'll do their best to "make it right" by comping you a good substitute.
The portions are generous, and  don't try to finish a dessert by yourself! They're sized for sharing.
They've eliminated some of their more delicious menu items--they used to allow you to get calimari as a side, which was awesome, but they were probably losing money on that. Oh well! Because this is just one of many Leona's Restaurants, there's nothing really special about the food prep. That's not bad, because you're always assured you'll get what you expect--but it's not great, either.
They go for a hip, dressy-casual ambience--they always have retro music videos in the background, trivia game cards at each table, and the menu designer went all out to make ordering "fun."
The prices are mid-range, but you get good food for your money. They offer drinks which are a little on the pricey side, but again, they know how to mix them.
I prefer restaurants that don't scream "chain!" but this is three blocks from my house, and it is a nice place.
If you can't find space in the adjoining lot, there's parking around the corner--or you can cut through the alley. I would NOT recommend parking in the back if you're alone--there have been too many unpleasant "incidents" in the neighborhood lately.
I haven't been here is ages... Now, Leona's isn't your fine Italian dining -- it's a franchise. Â But their mozzerella sticks are to DIE FOR! Â Simply awesome!
Had lunch there and the service was great and food was good.
Meatball sandwich was a grand slam.  I picked the lasangna as a side and it was just okay, but I'm  not a lasanga freak... again, mozzerella sticks were just GREAT!
The place was clean, people nice and service swift.
I'll go back. It's good. Not great. But it's good.
I recently visited Leona's when visiting family in Chicago. I was not impressed at all. I ordered a simple dish of spaghetti with marinara and fresh mozzarella. It seems like spaghetti and marinara is a dish that nobody can mess up - but they really did. It was SO bland. I had to add salt and pepper but that didn't save it. Second, my dad and brother decided to play a game of pool in the back gameroom/sports bar where we were sitting while we waited for food. The table wasn't a coin operated table and my brother had to give his ID to get the pool balls. When he gave his ID it was never mentioned and nowhere did we see anything about a charge for the table - but when we got the bill we were charged $8. Apparently they charge for time on the table - it was extra annoying for us because our food came and they just left the balls on the table and didn't return them until after we ate and we got charged for that time. Oh and a warning to parents with children - the Megatouch by the pinball machine includes "erotic games." I was excited to see Erotic Photohunt (my favorite bar game) but later on I noticed a little girl playing games on there (they do have plenty of non-erotic games - but I probably wouldn't let your children near the machine to be on the safe side.) Oh and the waiter had SOOO much cologne on! I noticed it every time he came to our table.
I think the rest of my family enjoyed their food - but our bill came to over $100 - and it was not an experience that warranted that price at all.
All I have to say is...
SPINACH... ARTICHOKE... LASAGNA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When did they put this on the menu??? It was sooo good, especially considering I'm a new vegetarian (er, 6 days and counting), and couldn't come up with anything to eat except for meatless side dishes, salad, and a corn/rice/bean creation I attempted this afternoon that's still sitting on the stove uneaten.
Anyway, I carried out, and they gave me a great dine-at-home experience, complete with torpedo bread, butter, and parmesean cheese for the lasagna. Â They even put the container in a plastic bag so alfredo sauce wouldn't waste in my car and for easy transport.
OMG, it was so good. Order it now.
1) Their menu is different every single time I go there, which can be annoying...
2) Including price changes. Changes meaning increases.
3) And they always, always, always forget some part of my order,
4) But they have this new (of course it's new, they're always changing their fricking menu) thing on the menu...(here "..." is like a drum roll or something)
MACARONI AND CHEESE LASAGNA
!
!!
!!!
And this macaroni and cheese lasagna is a cheesy, noodley mess of awesomeness - seriously seriously.
5) They bring this to my house for me to eat in the privacy of my own home - trust me, you don't want to watch any of that go down. Â It's a "scene". Whoa...
Now, back in the day Leona's was my go to place when I lived in Chicago. Â My first experience was with the North Side location and then Hyde Park.
We were at the Beverly Arts center for their outdoor jazz and wanted to get some foodies. Â Now, I was really put off by the maitre de here. Â Yes, we were taking our food out but, to be stopped at the door and directed to the back like herd was rude. Â I find it quite offensive that their take out is in the alley or the parking lot entrance. Â The area to place your order is so small that if 4 people were picking up you'd be on top of each other. Â Additionally, it was extremely warm and the staff was less than receptive in providing specific information about the menu.
It would have been better if the young lady at the front could have taken the order and asked us to move to the back to pick it up. Â It was not busy in the restaurant, no one was there. Â
The food was good but the service is poor. It's not like you are asking for anything free besides good service.
For poor service I have to downgrade this location.
I've been here a bit and it's an ok place. It is kind of expensive, but at least the portions are large. The food is good, but nothing special. They do have a lot of vegetarian options which I'm thankful for. The service is usually ok, but there have been more than a few times that it's been pretty bad. The wait staff all talk about each other behind their backs, and it's a little hard to ignore since they're talking so loud. Just because you're behind a screen doesn't mean we can't hear you. Geez. Then again I know a few languages so that doesn't help in ignoring it. The hostess/ supervisor is always so mean too. I just don't like going in to eat all that often. I order delivery from here occasionally, and their pizza is pretty good. Overall, not the first place I'd go to, but ok.
Review Source:I really like the atmosphere here. They have some really cute quotes and phrases around the ceiling and I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff. The first time I went there I had some of the best food I've ever eaten and really good service too. The second time the food was nothing to write home about. We've been back many times and its usually quite good. I really like the options they offer and we're addicted to the veggie skewers. They also have fun lil' cards to quiz each other on while you're at your table.
Review Source:Every time I visit my friends in Oak Lawn, Illinois, we come to Leona's. Â It has a nice atmosphere. Â Although there are TV screens, they're easy to ignore (unless the Bears are playing), and this place otherwise seems like the opposite of a sports bar. Â The food comes in big portions and with a variety of side-dish choices. Â The vegetarian options really are options, and every time I've come, the service has been good.
Review Source:This place is great.  The service is very good, i didnt have to wait for water refills(considering I drink alot of water ..lol).  The Big Fish Fry is the dish to get.  The fish is fried to perfection, and tasty, You get two choices for sides..(I suggest lasagna and REAL CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP!!! DEEELICIOUS).  Before your meal u get a freshly backed italian bread ball..lol  I know that sounds weird, but this bread goes great with the chicken soup.  Overall this place is a great spot to go on a date, and enjoy a good meal( They are not Stinggggyyy).  I have only been to this location, but I think that all of the leona's in the city are good.  Enjoy
