The waitress has no clue about the yelp check in special...Don't get the chile rellenos unless you like greasy oil slicks on your plate. The beans are canned and the rice is greasy too. The drinks are the highlight here...along with plenty of drunks for visual entertainment.

This seems like a locals bar, but the bartender was all friendly to us when we walked in. Nice patio, stiff drinks.

Review based on its nightlife scene, only!

    Seemingly, a local guys' bar.

A pretty small venue with the stage, tiny dance area, and pool table taking up most of the room.  There are a few tables towards the back if you want to sit...although most guys seem to just stand around.

There's usually a live band on weekend nights, which drowns out any conversation you might want to have.  The guy to girl ratio is probably something like 4:1 so good for the ladies, if you're into man hunting.  With so many guys, I can see how it would be easy for fist fights to ensue.

Overall impression is just pretty dirty, unclassy, and LOUD.  I'd much rather go elsewhere in the Triangle, but it seems to be a popular pit stop in the Kihei "bar hop" scene.

+ Free chips and salsa with Yelp check-in...although if you're going when most of Maui goes, you probably won't be able to redeem it as the kitchen closes early.

We headed here after a long ride around the rugged Northwest Coastline of Maui.  We were in our swimsuits and wanted something casual and had a coupon from the Entertainment Book.  The food was great!  I had a Chicken Quesadilla and my wife had a GIANT Life's a Beach Chicken Burrito.  Each entree was $10, and with the Entertainment Book, one of them was free!  We even had over half the Burrito the next night for dinner.  Our server was very attentive and friendly.  There was a guitar player on the patio.  He was a little overly fascinated with Dave Matthews, but not bad. We would definitely go there again.

Good beer specials if you like domestic draft--nothing crazy, but cheap big beers. Nothing on the menu looked appetizing, so we just did drinks.

Best Mai Tai I have ever tasted, and that says a lot cause I dislike Mai tais usually cause they only taste like dark rum. I got the small size instead of the big ones you see in the pictures because I asked the bartender if its worth it and she said the big ones have more juice so it's sweeter, so if you like more juice in your drinks and drink fast this is the way to go, if not get the small for $2.50 and  the big ones are $7 during happy hour which is between 3-7pm. Check out their food specials they have till 5pm, I had their pork quesadilla and it was amazing, we ended up ordering 3! We also had the nachos, they were basic, needed more cheese. Definitely have their Mai tais!

Ohhhhh bean chimichanga and bean burrito! My boyfriend and I enjoyed these on the patio and it was bliss. Our awesome server suggested we get the sauces on the side which was a brilliant idea, since there was one sauce that was too spicy for me. This food was incredible. They also have great happy hours.

I will forever be searching for a chimichanga like that one.

Hubby and I were looking for a good Happy Hour and stumbled upon this little corner that had several bars, all welcoming us for some cheap drinks on a lazy afternoon.  We chose Life's A Beach because of the open air seating, live tunes and friendly staff.  Speaking of friendly, they welcome all dogs.  The food isn't bad either.  Hubby and I chose tacos and washed them down with plenty of cold beer.  Life's A Beach is the perfect place to pull up a bar stool and have a few drinks while enjoying local conversation and good music.  Aloha!

They have a mai tai carafe for $6 at HH. Their chips and salsa hit the spot. And they have a nearly unobstructed view of the sunset. It's an amazing deal for passing through Kihei!

We sat on the patio of this fun little bar and enjoyed happy hour beer and a mai tai carafe for $6 and had the $5 lunch special. The happy hour deals attracted me to this place. It's right on the roadway, so putting up with a little traffic noise was necessary to enjoying the patio. It's a charming place to take a break from beaches, though, and the live band was enjoyable.

Decent live music on Friday nights.  Good beer selection.  Friendly staff.  Food is a bit above average for bar food - we had jalapeno poppers, then nachos.  The poppers did not have much of a kick.  The nachos were excellent.

Eclectic crowd with the odors of Paia drifting through the room.

Love this little beach bar - the best we found on Maui really whilst there - will be going back - good drinks at reasonable prices - live music and great place to chill - played pool and relaxed - food was okay - nothing flash but simple & good for the price - cheap.

This rating is for vibe and Happy Hour prices. Seriously, if you wanna hear some live music (call to check if / when who's playing) and have some draught beer at ridiculously LOW prices --  look no further. $3.50 for HUGE mug of beer. Place has nice pool-table -- as I said really nice vibe -- also feels safer than other triangle establishments as its right up front on south Kihei rd.....

    A must for locals!!!!

A fun, cheap diversion for tourists.

Not fancy -- but very chill....

    Enjoy !!!!

LAB's the bomb.  Stumbled across this gem of the islands early on in my last two-week stay in Kihei and ended up visiting, at least for a little while, almost every day.  There's a $5 special each day that was always high quality and significant portions.  The only day that went bad I was ordering the club sandwich lunch special at like 4PM.  I'm not sure what went wrong but there was only one thin slice of meat and a piece of cheese on the sandwich.  I went and ordered a chicken sandwich off the regular menu after that and, without me even asking, Stephanie had taken the club sandwich off the bill.

A generous happy hour with 24 oz. beers for like $3 and a liter-sized Mai-Tai for $6 and, well, it became my favorite hangout.  (Oh yeah--Monday is all day happy-hour.) Lots of good people, to Cat (awesome) and Stephanie (awesome) workin' the place, to Ronald (who bought me my first ever Jagermeister), Steve, Bob, Caroline, who I only met once but totally enjoyed hanging with, and yes ... they even have their very own Norm, named Norm, who hangs out at the end of the bar and lives vicariously through his iPad.  This is truly the tropical version of Cheers, only better.  Next time I'm in Maui you can bet I'll be doing the burrito lunch special at Life's a Beach!  The food and drink are great but like most good places, it's the people who really make it what it is.

Kids and dog friendly.  Not in that order.

Went to Taco Tuesday and the service was poor.  Not enough staff to take care of the customers.  Fish taco was good though.

Co-workers and I have been going to this place off and on for about a month now. We're only here for work and it looked like a nice little touristy bar, somewhere to calm down after a long week. It started out fine at the beginning of the month, and the bouncers and bartenders even recognize us and treat us well. However, the locals at this bar have punched numerous friends of mine for no reason at all, except for the fact that we are not local. One of my friends was even ambushed in the bathroom while peeing and then outside by someone different when he was trying to call the cops. The bouncers and bartenders do not care about this, however, and I watched them turn a blind eye on multiple occasions.

I would give this bar 5 stars if it weren't for the violence that occurs, and how nobody does anything about it. The drinks are perfect and the service is phenomenal, but when you're just trying to relax and take it easy the one night of the week you have off, do not come here. It is not worth it trying to watch your back.

32 ounce Mai Tais for 6 bucks...need I say more?

Their daily lunch specials are a great deal- lots of food for around 5 dollars.  My husband watched the Superbowl there and loved it.  They had a free taco bar and great drink specials.  Gets pretty busy at night!

Great local place to hang out, great beer on draft and the band on stage was great with Keola on the mike and ukulele. Only negative part was when the local Asians kept trying to tell me they were Hawaiian.....never tell a real Pacific Islander that when it's an encroachment on their native islander identity. Other than that, this place was a great hangout and I plan on returning again if I ever make it to Maui again.

Came here a few times while I was in Maui and found the live music to be excellent. Lively crowd. Well endowed bartendress. Lots of beers on tap. Cheap cocktails. You know, all the key factors to a successful neighborhood watering hole :) didn't have anything to eat but the beer was good!

Not bad, food was ok.  Our waitress was lost which happens every once in a while. If you want jumbo carnival drinks this is the place.  View from outdoor bar area was good.

We were trying to find a place in the south w people under 30.. Maui is a bit of a retirement community but the whole little   "triangle"  of bars by life's a beach (or "the LAB") is a great place for cocktails. During the day there are HUGE cocktails for super cheap.. At night there's live music and drinks are still reasonable. It's across from the beach w a fesh breeze (no buildings between here and the beach)

If you're under 30 and looking for a chill spot then DEFINITELY come here  between all the bars, you'll find one that suits you. ... We were wondering "where the hell does everyone go at night?! .. We found 'em!!)

My husband and I stopped here and enjoyed the fish tacos.  Pretty good, they were battered, so not your traditional fish tacos but still flavorful and yummy.

Didn't have anything from the bar, but it's a full, well-stocked bar.  Everything was pretty reasonably priced.

The ambiance is fun, and it looks like they have live music during the week.  I'd go back to hang out and enjoy some drinks.

This is the first place we ate in Maui on our honeymoon... we wanted something simple, laid back but something very paradiseish & this place was it!  We went back many times throughout our stay in Kihei!

Its pretty much all open with the outside.. The locals are friendly & great people.

We had a burger & a burrito.. nothing amazing but pretty damn good for bar food :) Mai Tai's were strong & good! Beer was good..

Can't wait to see you all again in Feb... ~ Aloha

Good prices. Good nachos! Good happy hour. Ok Mai's. stick w/happy hour beer. was hear 4 years ago and it was more charming wi sand all over the ground...no more. just ok now. Kids were hungry so we ordered chicken fingers. turned out to be 6 chicken dinosaurs. Not expensive but still could have hit up Costco for a whole bag and eaten for a week. Great entertainment with a great singer who sounds just like Dave Mathews (Ryan something or other). That alone was worth my time. hence, the extra star.

I love a casual bar! Here at Life's A Beach we were greeted by two friendly mutts! They slowly wandered through letting the patrons all have their chance to pet them!
We ended our night of bar hoppin' here and had a great time chatting with other vacationers and watching the locals cruise by in their cars and trucks (mostly).
It's right across from the beach so there is a lot of activity going on on this street corner.
Live music inside as well as billiards, but the patio is the spot!

While vacationing in Maui we went to Life's A Beach four or five times.  The vibe is a laid back mix of locals and tourists who would rather avoid the resort bar scene.  From what I could tell, Life's A Beach specializes in massive quantities of alcohol.

    28oz beer for $5-$7?
32oz Mai Tai During Happy Hour for $6?

    Woah.

The beer is probably the best bet, because the Mai Tais were pretty inconsistent.  I had one that was way too strong for me to finish on my own, but I also had one that tasted like $6 worth of juice.   Regardless, there is something kinda hilarious about drinking out of a 32 oz carafe.

A few nights they had karaoke and open-mic night.  Karaoke was pretty amazing (skinny white boy singing Kelis' "Milkshake," anyone?)  The bar pretty much consists of an inside area with pool tables and an outside patio separated by giant doors.  Thankfully they close some or the doors at night so you can actually have a conversation while listening to a girl sing her interpretation of Presidents of the United State's of America's "Lump."  She was awesome, by the way.

The only thing really lacking was food.  We had a plate of nachos one night that while wasn't necessarily bad, really wasn't all that good.  At least it didn't have goopy nacho cheese sauce.  On Taco Tuesday they had $1 tacos.  They pretty much consisted of a taco shell, a little dusting of cheese, some shredded lettuce, and a Tablespoon of meat.  Not amazing, but what do you want for $1?

5 stars for drinking/atmosphere, 3 stars for food.  Well, maybe 2.5...

We stayed at the Maui Vista just down the road April 28 - May 9th, 2011 and went here both Sunday nights for karaoke.  We had the best time.  Perfect amount of people to make it fun but not too crowded.  They had a nice beer selection at reasonable prices.  We grabbed some drunk food which was definitely good and large portions.  We only got to go on the two Sundays but I would highly recommend.

Nice beach-bum bar setup that attracts a very diverse crowd. This place has a great location for pulling in thirsty tourists. Ocean view, adjacent to some great parks & surrounded by all sorts of other great drinking establishments (Bar-Muda-Triangle).

1 Liter Mai Tai's for $6 during happy hour (Tuesday all day happy hour).
The Mai Tai's won't be winning any contests anytime soon,  but they are drinkable.

This place serves Pupu's and Mexican food. We tried the Chicken Wings, which were not good at all. I was expecting traditional hot wings and did not realized I would be getting some little KFC-ish, deep fried grease balls, with Hot sauce and blue cheese dipping sauces. Poor choice on my end for ordering those Poo Poo's. Next were the overpriced Chicken Flautas - they give you 3 piddly little tortilla things, which were not too good either.

I am sure they have some good food here, but 2 big thumbs down for my dinning experience. They have pretty good daily specials and you can't beat the view .... So this place is worth checking out.

Awesome band when we went last Thursday night.

They have foosball!  The table is a little off but at least they have it!

A lot less tourists which makes for a much nicer vibe.  Oops.  I'm a tourist.  But if I wanted to hang w/the likes of me, I woulda stayed on Front Street.

Reminded me of Longboards on Sunday nights in San Diego.

Who knew bar food could be so good?  Food comes out hot and fresh, and the prices can't be beat.  We shared buffalo wings and fish tacos--both were great.  We were there when they had $6 carafes of mai tais---they were strong and well worth the price.

This place is pretty cool.  It's right across the street from the giant whale statue on the main Kihei strip.  When we stopped by there was a singer with a guitar playing chill Hawaiian songs.  Normally, I don't like live performers -- they make me nervous, do I tip them, do I clap, do I have to make eye contact?? -- but I actually liked that it added to the beach vibe.  I'll definitely return to have another mai tai on their patio.

We went here for karaoke on my birthday. Fun atmosphere in the "Bar-muda Triangle" with a pool tables and TVs. Karaoke was fun, but music was super loud also hard to hear yourself, and if you want your song played, make sure you tip the guy or you are at the end of line.

My wife and I REALLY enjoy this place.  Cool layout, excellent brew on tap, and reasonable food.  We almost always have lunch here after a day of diving, and find it to be exactly what we're looking for.

That said, do NOT come here after 8pm unless you're looking to party hard....this place definitely rocks the night away.

Stumbled upon this place during our first day in Maui, hungry but excited to finally be on vacation. This place looks cool and inviting from the outside, with a sand covered front patio.

We sat inside to sit in regular chairs and to get out of the sun. Luckily, it was happy hour so the drinks were cheap:
    $1 for a 7 oz mai tai
    $2 for a 12 oz mai tai
    $5 for a 32 oz mai tai

Yum, the mai tai was good (not great) but hell, cheap enough! I ordered a burger with fries. Burger was cooked a bit drier than I'd like but with enough ketchup, it was a-ok.

They had a live guitarist and overall it was a good, relaxing, fun experience. Kept thinking I'd make it back there for the the great happy hour specials but sadly never got to. Next time!
