We went there for a very late lunch today. Â There were six of us in our party: 4 ordered pho noodle soups, one ordered a vermicelli rice bowl and one ordered a noodle plate. Â We waited almost 1/2 hour for our food to come and when I went to the counter to ask if our food was coming soon, the waiter was very rude and grunted, "As soon as you stop talking I will get you your food. Â It is ready." Â I have no idea why he was so rude, I asked very politely and there were only 2 other patrons in the restaurant- so they were not busy. Â Our family loves getting pho in Sunnyvale and our favorite place gets our food to us in less than 5 minutes and it's always tastey. Â We were soooo disappointed with the service. Â The food was okay. Â We won't be coming back.
Review Source:Great place. Â Family owned and run. Â Clean and bright, patio seating! Â Really great pho! Â So far we have tried the pho ga (chicken noodle soup), pho tai bo vien (beef slices and sausage), bo hue, clay pot rice, and bun xao nghe (turmeric noodles) and like everything, although I'm partial to the tai bo vien. Â Very glad they've added kids sized pho bowls. Â Our kids also love the chicken fried rice.
Review Source:This is one of the few decent places in Rheem! Calvin whips up some very good food. He can super spice it for you and really cause some burn. Seriously though, the food here is excellent, healthy and the variety is great. I have had several different dishes from the Pho to the noodle plates. Take Out is good ,but the food always seems hotter and better in the tiny little restaurant. Get to know Calvin the owner, he's a good guy and will treat you to his recipes that aren't on the menu. Service is not lightning fast, expect a wait, most people in the Moraga area do take out for this reason. The only reason not 5 stars is because service is super hit and miss, it's a very small place so I cut them some slack.
Review Source:Food was really good but it took them half an hour to make the food.
If you got other things to do in life other than eat noodles, then this place might not be the place for you.
When I was there I also  heared the workers yelling in the back which was kind of uncomfortable.
Also a little pricey for a pho restaurant because I nearly paid 10$ for a bowl of pho, where as I can get it for 6$ elsewhere.
A tiny restaurant with pretty good food!
I think this spot is better for take out because it only has 4 tables inside and 2 or 3 outside (which isn't really an option in winter).
The food was pretty good. I had pho. I wasn't served what I ordered but it was still good. I think I ended up getting the flank and meatballs (maybe?). The meat was good and well flavored. The noodles were a bit too chewy though and the broth could have been more flavorful (nothing a little sriracha sauce can't cure!
I also tried the seafood clay pot rice plate. That was really good.
The service is a bit slow at times and fast other times so it just depends on the day. It's also a bit overpriced, but not too bad.
So if you want some good comfort take out then this is a good option. Otherwise maybe head somewhere else.
love this place!
I never come here during dinner because I know how busy it gets. Â During the cold days, the Pho warms the body right up! I don't mind eating this pho every day after class because it is so good. Â I live in san francisco so I have been to turtle tower, hai ky mi gia, and kevin's noodle house, and this broth is the best of them all. Â The man there is always nice and sometimes gives a 10% discount if youre a saint mary's student... the women there are not as nice as he is and the women don;t give discounts :(
i've gottten the potstickers a couple times, but not as good. Â My suggestion, don't stray from the Pho!
Without question the best place to get pho in all of Moraga! Â OK, that's not saying much, is it?
The pho here actually is good. Â The other dishes I have tried on the fairly short menu of this tiny restaurant are good too, although my last Vietnamese crepe was a little tough and hard to chew around the edges. Â In San Francisco it might be nothing special, but it's a treat out in the wilds of Moraga.
The wonton and noodle soup is tremenous, both in taste and in value. Â If you eat at the restaurant, you get a huge soup bowl filled with wontons, pork balls and thin egg noodles, with things like fresh bean sprouts and cilantro on the side. Â Everything is fresh and delicious. Â I hear you get a little less if you get carry out, simply because of the size of the containers.
Review Source:Very small restaurant located in a strip mall in Moraga. I ordered the pho ga, and the soup base tasted really watery and tasteless. The chicken was okay, but it was just the soup that was not satisfying. They give you a lot for the cheap price, and the service is good. The restaurant is also really small, but there is some seating outside.
Review Source:Good little pho shop. Still amazed they have one in Moraga...
Service was friendly and the ingredients were definitely good. The pho tai seemed a little under seasoned at first but after the hot water and all the ingredients blended in the bowl together after a few minuted it was perfect. For those whose tongues have been blasted by over salted food this is a good change.
The price is basically $1 more than it should be but for everyone buying $3-4 drinks at Starbucks across the way lets put this in perspective...it is good food!
I thought this little place was really good on all the usual points for a pho restaurant. It was pouring rain when I came by which may have worked in my favor since it sounds like I could have been waiting for a table for some time. Decor isn't important to me, especially for asian food.
I started with cha gio which were straight out of the hot oil and fantastic. For my lunch, it was the combination beef pho. I appreciated that it didn't include meatballs although I missed the tripe. I've eaten a lot of pho and personally prefer a lighter broth which doesn't have a thick layer of grease floating on top or is overly salty. LHN's broth was just perfect for me with a nice fresh flavor. It didn't seem like there was any MSG added but since that wasn't advertised I won't make that assumption. The brisket, beef slices, and tendons were all tender.
I have to say that I'm really glad I finally tried this place! I've been driving and walking past it for years. Â My boyfriend and I had the spring rolls, the combination beef pho, the combination pho with pork, and a banana and strawberry smoothie. I have to mention as well that I grew up eating pho in san jose and have been going to pleasant hill to get my pho fix. This place is as good as any pho place I've ever been to. Great flavors in the broth and the spring rolls were very fresh and delicious. Â
One thing I really liked about this palce is that the service was very friendly. You'll find all your normal pho fare and even the same looking decorations but most places i've been to are reknowned for having little to no real customer service. Not so here, which is really quite nice. Â The food comes out just as fast though, and since there normally aren't many people in the restaurant you'll be sure to have your water glases refilled in a timely manner ;]
The only thing  I didn't like was the smoothie.  They offer them as specials and I don' think they have they have any with boba in them, which most pho places usually have. Oh well. ALso the prices are about a dollar more expensive than most places, but its still overall pretty cheap. $9 for a HUGE bowl of soup that tastes great? I think thats reasonable.
I have to say that its the nicest feeling eating pho in Moraga so close to home and school. No need to drive 20 minutes for a good bowl of pho. If you have been thinking of trying this place, do it!
Worst pho ever. Only one size (large) and I like small.  It was mostly a large peppery bowl of water with little meat to no meat.  I ordered steak and meatball and got about 1.5 pieces of very thin steak.  Meatballs were 1-2 and rubbery.  I asked for fresh chili sauce  and the waiter kept pointing me to the watered down sriachi sauce. No, I actually WANTED fresh chili sauce.  I would never go here again.  My son got potstickers and they were like what you get in the frozen section of the grocery. Nasty nasty.  FAIL  overpriced to boot
Review Source:I'll admit, I'm not a fan of Vietnamese cuisine, because I don't eat seafood or fish of any kind. Â I was a little worried when my friend suggested this spot for dinner. Â But I was relieved when my friend recommended the Asian chicken salad. Â The staff was so kind and understanding, and explained that they offer a vegan dressing for the salad that does not include oyster sauce, or the other "fish juice" liquids that I do not care for. Â My salad with the veg dressing was just the ticket.
Review Source:This is one of my favorite restaurants. They are small but have a large menu and the staff is friendly and has several times given me discounts or food on the house. Spicy lemon grass beef stir fry is my favorite. A bit on the pricey side but you can get a full meal for about 10 bucks and it's worth all of it.
Review Source:I love this place! Pho in Rheem valley. Can you possibly imagine that culture has finally arrived to this East bay suburb! The beef Pho is tasty and comforting. The owner is friendly and more than happy to give you the rundown on the menu. This place is a little bigger than the head of a pin.
+ Taste and lots of it
+ Pho where you would not expect it
- Not good for a family of 12
Vietnamese food in the Moraga hills? What the Pho?
(HInt: it is pronounced Fa-uh, like unh-uh, not Fo, like Fo Sho)
This tiny little resturant is in the main shopping center of Moraga on Center street, tucked in near the CVS pharmacy. It has 3, or was it 4 tables? We sat at one of the bigger tables, seating 3 of us.
They have a little sampling of your typical Viet diner food.
5 different Pho Bo (beef) noodles, 1 chicken, 1 tofu, 1 veggie, and 1 Hu Tieu. They are all priced between $7.85 and $8.35...which is expensive compared to the flatlands of Concord or P.H., where it is a couple of dollars cheaper.
A half dozen Bun (vermicelli noodle bowls) about the same price, $8 plus or minus fifty cents. 5 rice dishes, not the Com Dia you find in San Jose, but more lemon grass flavored dishes with Jasmine rice.
Some appetizers like summer rolls, egg rolls, veggie egg rolls, and 3 other rolls, and 1 chicken salad.
Compared to San Jose, Westminster, or even Concord, the prices are higher and the food is more Americanized. But this is a small place, and you upscale suburbanites in Moraga don't have to drive down the hill to get a little Viet food fix!
Service seemed friendly, but when we were there, it took  a long time to get our food, almost as if the waitress was also the prep kitchen help chopping ingredients, and also the cook, making the dishes. We all ordered Pho, and it took about 20 mintues to get them. Most places serve it in under 5 minutes.  Â
If you live in Moraga and need Pho, go here. If you don't, there are much better choices in the flatlands. I should know, I have eaten in 70 different Viet restaurants that serve Pho in the past 2 years.
I was surprised to find a Vietnamese restaurant in Moraga. Â I would recommend trying it out. Â The Pho broth was very good and their fresh rolls were also solid. Â Friendly service. Â Slightly more expensive than spots in Concord, but that's to be expected - their rent and expenses are likely higher. Â I'll go back.
Review Source:Being new to the Bay area I found myself at the Little Hearty Noodle restaurant trying out their P1 which was the combination Pho.
Like the name of the restuarant suggests the place is very little. Additionally the portions are little too so the name of the restaurant, with and emphasis on little definitely fits the place! Â The Pho broth was tasty. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much being that this Vietnamese place is located in Moraga, but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the broth. The portion size and the quality of the meats were not up to par with the broth.
All in all - if I ever have a craving for Pho again and I am in the area I would definitely stop by. Otherwise, I may consider driving to Oakland for the real stuff.
so.. I wasn't feeling to great...
and I really needed some pho..
and this is the ONLY place in lamorinda!
anyways.. it was good pho.
our order:
P2 - Pho with thin sliced beef
P7 - Pho with Chicken
I was very satisfied with the pho.
It was expensive, we spent $20.
they don't have different sizes of pho, just one.
it's a little smaller then the medium at any normal pho place...
So I'm a fan because its the ONLY place.
if you have a choice to go somewhere else, I would.
but my experience yesterday was great.
i can't give a fair rating because i have not been here. not for lack of trying.
everytime i have come this place has been closed. my parents say great things. the take home pho i've had has not been indicative of their claims. it's sweet and you can really taste the anise in the broth. the noodles also are very tough. that said, left over/take home pho has never been pho at its best, which is why i hope i can try it out one day.
the hours are....tues-sat 1130-8 and closed sun & mon. they say you can call on monday to see if it's open. hopefully with this info you'll have better chances at experiencing thln :)
This is not the place to go if you don't live in Moraga. Â Otherwise the portions and the cost will be disappointing.
...and because i don't live there, 3 stars...and purely because i simply can't give less stars for a place that taste good.
We had the pho and bun and spring rolls.
Good flavors and good ingredients.
My problem is that, having had pho from all over (hey, it's a staple...like pizza and chinese and burgers...gotta have it, y'know?), this is the first place i paid more than $7...actually, I paid almost $9 (dinners cost 50 cents more). Pho lovers jaws should be dropping about now...
OK, we're in moraga, we're in high rent, we're in the middle of an enclosed valley...like over paying for popcorn at a movie theater...we all do it.
But here's my point...at least the movie theater gives you a ridiculous amount to reconcile the high price...and let's face it, it cost them almost nothing for another handful of kernels. Â Little Hearty Noodle's "large portion" is what I call a "small" at most pho places. Â So I left the place hungry...and that sucks....and a dang shame, because it's pho...the noodles cost pennies and some additional broth even less...
so here's my thing...if you need to charge higher prices ...at least make up for the difference...either by high end ambience (this place is as hole in the wall as they come), high end service (she refilled out water), or large PORTIONS.
And that's why I gave 3 stars.
So go there if you live in Moraga and don't feel like driving out of the valley, because their flavors are right on, but the place and the costs simply are not competitive.
I recently did a take-out and was a bit apprehensive as to how the noodles would hold out till I reached my destinatiion. Â Wow, they packed the soup, noodles and condiments separately and it was just "yum-oh" to enjoy at the office. Â If you need to take it home and transfer the noodle, soup and condiments into a wide bowl, the experience would be a lot better although I am not complaining that eating out of a tall container was enjoyable as well.
Review Source:We've been missing good vietnamese food since moving across the "culture-cut" tunnel and this place fills the gap nicely. They serve straight up solid pho and vietnamese dishes without any frills- while places like these are abundant in Berkeley-Oakland, this is the first I know of here. Amen!
Review Source:My heart skipped a beat when I drove by the old "Pasta Stop" and saw that it was now a Vietnamese restaurant (that still sells pasta to go). Â Since my move to Moraga 2 years ago, I've been in constant pho withdrawal. Â Ah, the things you do for love. Â
As stated by Jack B., this is the only Vietnamese restaurant in Lamorinda. Â Their menu has pho, various types of spring rolls, bun (rice vermicelli), and stir fried noodles. Â I tried the pho bo vien (beef meatballs), my usual test for new pho joints. Â The portion was large, the meatballs very flavorful, the noodles fresh, and the broth was flavorful. Â Hints of cinnamon, full flavored, not too greasy - as close to perfect as I've seen out of San Jose or Westminster. Â
They will soon be offering banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches) and I can't wait. Â The staff are very friendly, which is really weird for a Vietnamese restaurant! Â They are open for lunch and dinner, with differing prices (and portions). Â A bowl of pho will run about $7 - reasonable for Moraga and much cheaper than driving down to Concord or Walnut Creek.
