Blue Ginkgo

The other reviewer is INSANE. This place is an institution in Lafayette.  Been in business over 10 years, same family runs it. We bring friends from San Francisco to dinner here and have them compare Blue Ginko to their favorite place in the city. Blue Ginko always gets rave reviews. Great atmosphere, awesome people, family business that's been doing it right for decades. You can't go wrong.

You don't stay in business that long and have a packed house every night if your food stinks.

This is about the newer Blackhawk Plaza location.  (I couldn't find a place on Yelp for that.) The sushi is excellent, location great, would have enjoyed outdoor seating that I couldn't get even with a reservation.  Here's what I really didn't like.  The NOISE INSIDE.  It's beyond horrible.  Even though people complain in print and elsewhere, restaurants are too loud with music and horrible acoustics.  Even the waiters can't hear.  Also, this has happened twice in restaurants to me recently.  When you bring a birthday cake, they serve it BEFORE lighting the candle(s). What's up with that?  It kind of takes the fun out of the whole thing.  The waiters/waitresses are often from other countries and perhaps don't know of the custom here?  Maybe some restaurant owners could do some training?  

But, most of all, the noise in restaurants is horrible when the customer and the wait staff CAN'T HEAR EACH OTHER AND HAVE TO SHOUT! For this reason, I'm probably not going back.  Too bad, I liked the food.
