Service and interiors are great. I'm very impressed with the walls, seats, tables. I'm sure the start up cost for the place is big. The only drawback is the location. Downtown Crawfordsville may have this small town charm for some but it was a bit scary for me and my hubby. This place didn't serve horchatas which I was disappointed but they have sweet tea so it cancels it out. I ordered the Salmon Cancun and my fish came out dry. It was fairly obvious to say that they use really frozen salmon. However, my sopapilla dessert was great. I can't complain.
Review Source:This place is NO BUENO. For starters, we had the nachos supremos while we were waiting for a larger group to arrive. When you think of nachos, you think of a big plate of crispy chips, delicious meats and beans, with just the right amount of melty cheese, maybe with some guac and some tomatoes, right? Apparently, at Little Mexico, the term nachos means a plate with about 15 chips, the cheese pooled to the side, a smear of beans opposite that and bits of chicken and beef clumped around. Needless to say there were leftovers, even with 6 people.
After everyone else in the party had arrived, half of the group's dinner orders were taken. Around 30 minutes later, the other half of the group finally had their orders taken.
My girlfriend ordered the Camarones Yucatecos and it was pretty terrible. She had about 3 shrimp before realizing that none of the shrimp on the plate were de-veined. The digestive tract of shellfish are not exactly her cup of tea.
I ordered the Carne Asada, which, pretty standard fare, right? How could they screw that up? Don't worry. They did. My food showed up after everyone else's, even the people who ordered a half hour AFTER I did, and the beef was gray and stringy. Â I asked for a refill on my Coke about 4 times before I was ever brought one.
Do not go here if you are with a group. They cannot handle tables of more than 5 people. I'm told the margaritas are pretty good and the rice is actually pretty tasty. But, those two things alone would not make me go back. All in all, it's pretty terrible.
Hubby and I stopped by here on Black Friday on our way home from seeing his folks.  It was fairly busy, and we were seated quickly.  The décor is crazy, but the mad colors grew on me a little. Â
Chips and salsa were blah. Â Chips tasted like they came out of a bag from the store and the salsa out of a cheap jar from Wal Mart. Â We got some queso and it was thin and runny. Â The iced tea was so weak that it barely had any color to it. Â I switched to pop after half a glass.
Hubby got the house fajitas and I chose pollo fundido. Â They came with what tasted like thin Azteca tortillas, not the typical yummy mexican restaurant kind. Â Our food was just ok. Â Not bad, but it had very little flavor to it. Â Even the chorizo was bland. Â We were pretty disappointed. Â
The servers were very nice and friendly, and service was good up til the time we needed our check, and then we had to hunt him down. Â
I'd never go back. Â I can make the same stuff in my kitchen by opening a few packages and cans.
Classic Mexican fare with twists of their own special recipes, Little Mexico delivers time and time again. Experience the culture with the amazingly brilliant wood carved tables and walls imported from Mexico. The staff are a delight and have a great sense of humor. When I was younger I fell in love with their cheesey quesadillas. As I've come to experiment in growing a bit older, I can say that I've sampled quite a bit of their menu and it is all muy bueno. From their Taco Salad Bowls to their Fried Fajitas you cant go wrong with whatever you order! Wash it all down with an amazing margarita!
Smoking section available, busy on weekends
It's been quite a while since I reviewed Little Mexico and I have to downgrade my rating, unfortunately. Â They have gone bat-shit crazy with the decor and now it looks like Epcot Center on drugs. Â
The food is still pretty tasty but I am suspicious as to how much of it is actually made fresh. Â The service is usually really good but they definitely have their off days. Â The new items they have added to their menu are great, though.
Overall I still really like the food at Little Mexico but the decor is garish and distracting.
I spent my high school years in Crawfordsville, and Little Mexico was never a favorite like some. The food is mediocre at best, even for Americanized mexican food. The decor now is also a little out there. They went a little overboard with the painted wood chairs, tables, and wall panels.
Review Source:I used to go to Wabash, and I think this place was a clinic! I am proud to say that I NEVER stepped foot into Rancho Bravo! :-) Â I loved the friendly service, and was always made to feel at home. Â Towards the end of my tenure, the waiters knew exactly what I wanted and made me feel like family. Â They even treated my family amazingly when I would bring them in on a visit. Â I love this place.
Review Source:Another day in another little midwestern town.... not that many dining options in Crawfordsville, Indiana especially after 9 pm. Â But this place was open so me and a collegue stopped in for dinner. Â
The place seems too large for a small town like this, but maybe they do get busy on weekends or something. Â Only 4 or 5 other tables were filled when we got there, but there are a LOT of tables. Â Typical bright mexican decor with very colorful tables and wooden chairs. Â Also, inexplicably, Christmas ornaments hanging everywhere in October. Â I have to believe they are still up from last Christmas (or maybe 10 Christmases ago) rather than think they actively put up Christmas decorations in October.
The waiter was quite friendly and personable. Â Salsa brought to the table with chips was just ok. Â And my meal was pretty bland (had the Pollo Yucatan). Â Not bad, just not very flavorful. Â Also, our waiter kind of disappeared by the end of the meal and I had to hunt down someone to get our check.
This is Mexican food in Indiana, so I didn't really expect much and Little Mexico delivered on that expectation. Â This may be the best that Indiana can do for Mexican food so on an Indiana scale maybe it deserves higher. Â But on a real mexican food scale 2 stars is about right.
Went here with a group of four. Â We were seated quickly on a Thursday night. Â The place was really busy and many people seemed to know each other as we walked through the restaurant. Â We ordered a pitcher of margaritas. Â
We sat in a booth that was having it's walls remodeled so they were torn up a bit. Â Their salsa was brought to us in cheap plastic bowls but it did have good flavor. Â They did well at keeping the chips full.
I ordered the chimichanga with shrimp while a couple others had fajitas and one a taco salad.
After being pumped full of margaritas (which were delicious), I am not totally sure how great the food really was. Â Sure, I thought it was good while I was eating it but I can't really remember it now. Â So, not a memorable experience.
Fast forward to the rest of the evening when I did not feel so good. Â Not sure if it was the drinks or the food but another person in our group also said she did not feel good either.
I'd say this place is worth a try but just watch out for those margaritas!
Is it authentic? Â Not even close.
Is it usually delicious? Â Absolutely.
The last time I ate here I had something waaaaaaaaaaaay too salty and I couldn't eat it. Â Their menu isn't posted online so I can't exactly remember what it was or look it up. Â It was the sauce on some steamed burrito-like substance.
I thought when I (Usain) bolted that this would be the restaurant I would miss the most. Â WRONG, there are at least 10 places that operate out of vans that are within walking distance of me, now, that make this place seem like a slow ride to grandma's house.
Wow, I'm confused why this place is rated so high. Â I lived in C'ville for four years and ate at Little Mexico many times (to my great chagrin). Â While the staff is extremely nice, the food is completely lackluster. Â I've had burritos, fajitas, tacos, you name it and it has all been bland. Â The best thing on the menu is the margaritas.
2 stars for the service and low prices.
I live in Indianapolis and have yet to find a Mexican restaurant as good as Little Mexico. I can always count on the chips and salsa, fajitas, and arroz con pollo.
The servers are really friendly, and if you say anything in Spanish they will tease and test you to see what you really know. I remember the place was always packed weekend nights and Sundays after church. If you've ever lived in the 'ville and return to this place, you can count on seeing someone random you used to know.
