Good neighborhood bar. Â Menu consists of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Â As far as a meal goes, I've only had sliders here so I don't have much to say about the food but I guess the 4 stars out of 90 reviews speaks for itself. The drinks are strong, staff is friendly and the crowd is fun on a good night. This place is alright by me.
Review Source:Sorry but this bar took Piper "Best Burger" Kilt into a headlock and easily wrestled it to the ground. The thing about this place is, yes, it has great meat like the former title holder, but everything else is better. Brioche bun, hot cajun sauce, choice of yucca or sweet potato instead of plain fries. Inside reminds me of Iron Burger in the village (small, dark, uncomfortable stools), and the price is similar, but if you are an Inwood carnivore and are craving a decent bite up here, this is the place.
BTW, it is a big hunk of meat to try to get your mouth around, so come hungry
I love me some wings and sweet potato fries so if I'm hungover this is a spot I will generally go to. Â
I wish they had normal tables because the high table and stools after sitting for 30 mins or so are a bit uncomfortable
The service is decent.. However I recently tried Buddha bar which is right across the street better service and better food overall, also the atmosphere and feel of the place is much desired.
I know this places usually have good deals on happy hour and songs and I heard the burgers were good
I've only been here once, but I would definitely go back. My bf and I went to this bar to watch a football game last month. Side note: Do NOT take the A train, even though yelp says you can. Very bad idea, you'll have to walk in a big circle.
We had good service here. When we went in, it seemed like all the tables were full, so we were about to leave. But they actually noticed us standing there and pointed us to a hidden table in the back. Waiter was friendly and attentive.
Some of the menu beers weren't available. Oh well. Everything was reasonably priced, but not overly so.
I had the garlic yucca cheese fries, which were greasy yet good. I also had a great salad with spring mix, fruit, nuts, and either gorgonzola or bleu cheese. I was really impressed with the quality of the salad; usually places with bar food don't put much effort into that kind of stuff. Both portions were large - I couldn't finish either.
I really liked the ambiance - it was almost romantic, very cozy, with warm lighting and sedate dark woodwork. Not too much noise, and despite being a bar it was pretty quiet and calm. It was a Sunday or Monday night I think, and everyone had a seat. Would be good with friends, probably not good for meeting new people.
Why are you trying to front with this unnecessary brunch menu on the weekend? I want wings when I watch football and I don't want to wait until 4pm to get them. If a customer comes in at 1pm for a game on the weekend you better serve up some wings on request or I'm taking my business elsewhere.
Review Source:A place that no longer makes me happy :( It used to be unlimited Sunday brunch drinks but no more, now you have to pay for them and considering that the food has gone down hill too this is no longer a place I would go to. The burger I had recently was very dry, not only the burger it self but also the bun it came in and on top of that they screwed up the orders that we gave. I just can not recommend the place anymore and this was with a friend who had just had a bad experience with them and she lives around the corner form them and now she is not going there anymore either, so I guess they just lost two costumers at least until they turn it around again. For now I will go to their competitors across the street who's even got a nicer beer selection.
Review Source:I've tried several different things from their menu and have never had much to complain about. Average bar menu with burgers, wings, a variety of options for fries (garlic, cajun, yucca) and sandwiches, all very good. All the bartenders are really helpful and friendly especially Whitney(?) in the days she was around. Locksmith is small and gets very very crowded on late night weekends so I usually avoid it. I'm all for dancing and having a good time but it's so small that I just don't get what vibe they're trying to give. Ah yes I guess I'm an old lady now.
Review Source:Great Sunday Brunch spot!!!
Was there this past Sunday and had a burgers with Yucca Fries. My wife had a cheeseburger with Sweet Potato Fries. I thoroughly enjoyed the Yucca fries, I had them with Cajun seasoning and they were off the hook! My wife had the sweet potato fries and loved them too.
The burgers were pretty good. They were HUGE and cooked just right. The bun wasn't the greatest, but did the job. I'll definitely return and ask them to toast my bun lightly next time.
Drinks on Sunday brunch are about $3 and the first round is on them, good deal!
This is a neighborhood jewel. A nice cozy decor, sort of rustic with remnants of an old locksmith shop. That was actually what this place was before becoming a bar, a locksmith. Pretty cool. So the name's fitting, and the spot is definitely worth checking out.
I'll be back....
Steady hole-in-the-wall bar/restaurant. I came here with friends for a late night of drinking and dancing. The place was tiny, but a decent crowd (wide variety in age) Music was the best--a healthy mix of salsa, merengue, bachata and hip-hop. It's a bit crowded for dancing, but everyone finds their place.
Review Source:We happened upon Locksmith Wine & Burger Bar after an afternoon spent at the Cloisters in Fort Tryon Park. Â As hungry museum-goers, we thought this place sounded good. Â Indeed, I was not disappointed. Â I ordered the locksmith burger (pretty standard burger with the usual toppings - onions, tomatoes, and lettuce) with cajun yucca fries on the side. Â I loved that cajun spicing and the dipping sauce it came with! Â It was a fantastic meal, and it was pretty inexpensive. Â And it's a relaxing sort of bar with a pretty cool theme too. Â I'd definitely recommend Locksmith Wine & Burger Bar.
Review Source:We ended up at Locksmith Wine and Burger after another spot so we were already feeling pretty good. Small place but very live. Place was crazy packed with people drinking and eating. I would say dancing but there was not room for that. All you could see was shoulders moving along to the beat. The wait to get a drink was pretty long because the bar is pretty small with only one bartender. Although small we had lots of fun at Locksmith. I want to go back and try the Burgers. They looked really good.
Also, Locksmith is located in a pretty decent area where there are more bars and lounges where you can hang at. Transportation is pretty close by too so it makes it very easy to get to and from this place.
It was fine I guess... but nothing special.
Dropped in on our way up to the Cloisters around brunch time. Â It was almost full, but we got to sit right down at one of the last open tables. Â The atmosphere is pretty nice... especially on a nice day with the front opening up to the outside.
I had a veggie burger... the bf had a regular hamburger. Â Neither of us were terribly impressed, but it was food and we were hungry.
One added plus to the meal was that during brunch hours a free brunch cocktail is included with each entree. Â
Overall I guess this is probably a good spot for the neighborhood, but definitely not a place worth traveling to.
One of my favorite places to chill.  Tiny little place with good happy hour, great bar food, and friendly staff.  I specially love the Philly cheese steak  and the onion rings.  I personally think the garlic drenched yuca fries are a bit over rated but they are good non the less.  I am sad to see brunch change but in this day in age I would understand why they had to take these drastic measures, still its a great little hang out.
If you want to avoid loud noise decibels just don't go on Fridays or any day right before any holidays, teachers take over and we are loud! any other day is great to hang with a friend or bring a date over.
Cute place in the heights
Yes it's very small & intimate & always packed like sardines (must be a good problem for the owner lol) but if it's packed there must be a good reason!!
Food is really good, best burgers & garlic fries thus far
Music is good, & very diverse crowd...hopefully they'll have seatings outdoor when it gets warmer
It's really nice to have a decent bar uptown, since there are so few options up here and the going out scene is really two polar extremes: pretentious clubs or seedy bars.
Thankfully, Locksmith's recognized their was a niche they could fill and they do a pretty darn good job of doing so. This place is a true bar, complete with a good selection of tap and bottled beers (Dogfish Head being by #1 recommendation) and good bar food.
The location itself is small, and things can get pretty tight in there, even on what would seem a pretty slow night, but this is a minor quibble with what is otherwise a real pleasant place to be uptown.
You'll find a good mix of professional folks, some good-looking ladies, in general, just the type of place where you can feel at home.
I would plead with these guys to get a better selection of local and craft beers, as I feel they rely too heavily on the major names (Corono, Stella, etc.) but I shouldn't push my luck. Us uptowners should just be happy there's a bar with decent lighting in it.
The happy hour here is pretty nice too, half off certain drinks and different specials for each night of the week. As Chris Rock would say, "Ain't nothin wrong with that."
I've been here a few times and I have yet to be impressed.
The drinks are watered down, especially during happy hour.
I once ordered an apple martini, and the bartender used his iPhone app to figure out how to make one! Unreal!
The burgers and quesadillas are pretty good!
*if you live in the area they do deliver, which is a plus!
How is this place a wine bar?
Anyway, it's a pretty solid spot. Â This place I swear this place is always packed! Â Great atmosphere if you like to hang out but not so great if you'd like to be guaranteed a seat to sit down. Â Not very quiet either. Â For some people this is great. Â I know. Â But I can see how this might be a turn off for others.
Great happy is hour is a definite plus! Â Good place to watch the game too!
Great food. Nice, friendly staff. Best happy hour.
Their burgers are great. Their wings are perfect. And the place is actually nice inside, it looks like a dive sports bar from the outside, but it's really not. Â The place is kind of small though, so I am not sure how crowded it might get.
It's a shame because we need more options in da Heights, but kids playing restaurant could do a better job at serving you than this place. We got our food order in at 4:45. At 5:50 they finally brought it out. NO JOKE. There were about a dozen people in the bar - nothing crazy. We were in a rush too and had to get it to go.
The other thing that really irked me: Ordered soda and it tasted medicinal. When we told our waitress she said, "Yeah, it's bad, huh?"
She KNEW?! But gave it to us anyway?! Why not just tell people your soda gun is funk-nasty? What kind of dance were we dancing?!
And not to sound like my grandmother, but the music was WAY too loud. It's a small bar. Michael Jackson need not be screaming in our faces.
Went to Piper's Kilt a few nights later and had a MUCH better experience. Doubt I'd be able to give Locksmith another try (even though the burgers were above average.)
Ahh, Locksmith...last night you were the key to my inner early 90's b-boy.
Being on my forced date with Jean Gorgeous, I really didn't think the night could get much better. After leaving TacoFriedBeansa (lulz,) we headed over to Locksmith to meet up with her brother (really cool guy.)
When we first walk in I immediately recognize they're playing some Big Daddy Kane. Shut the front door! No really, it's cold outside. I didn't get too excited though because I figured it was a fluke. What I did not expect to happen was that the entire time we were there they played a ton of my favorite hiphop classics, and that's all they played. I don't think my head stopped bobbing. This music continually playing, Jean Gorgeous sitting across from me...this is definitely heaven. I refuse to turn away from the light, this was meant for me, it's my time.
So I started off with a Long Island Iced Tea. I've had worse but I have definitely had better. Next, Jeanie-Jean's brother and I try a Locksmith Tea. Aight, aight, that's better... then I tried a...I can't remember the name...but I remember it had Bailey's, Frangelico and...Bacardi? That was tasty. When we left I was definitely feeling niiice.
Didn't order any food, but maybe next time. On a Sunday, as I 'm hoping this is when this place regularly turns into my heaven of music. Maybe I'll even be able to coerce Jeanie-Jean to come down. =)
ALL I can remeber are those damn cajun fries. I mean the burger was good...I really wanted a freaking glass of wine, but of course that was not gonna happen. So I tore the meal to pieces lol!
Seriously a hole in the wall. The place was tiny tiny and we waited for about 30 minutes before we sat down. However, a Giants game was on and I'm sure that's what the hold up was.
My girlies had garlic fries which were feaking delish too! Burgers are made to order and the bacon on mine was thick applewood smoked.....yum to the e!
Great first meal in NYC!
Came here with one crazy hangover expecting nothing else but wings cheap beer. I was wrong about this place and I am glad I was. The place is very small but it keeps a quiet/positive crowd, which I like very much.
Their garlic fries and yucca fries are really good with the garlic mayo (hungry thinking about it). Love the beers too but I love beer anyway lol.
I am very happy to have Locksmith on my roster of regularly visited eateries. The food is great, the drinks are great, the menu prices are more than reasonable, the portions are very generous, the service is friendly and they have quite a few appealing and inviting specials.
Happy Hours here are terrific. Different promotions on different days. Sometimes it's half-off bottles of wine. Other times it's dirt-cheap beers and well-drinks. And for brunch on weekends they offer unlimited Mimosas and Bloody Marys. But this place is about more than drinking. They have a consistently fantastic Burger. I like to order mine Medium Rare with Blue Cheese and Ham and Grilled Pineapple -- it's really delicious. And their onion rings are killer, for lack of a better word; always crispy and succulent, it's rare to find really satisfying onion rings but these are the real deal.
Every week there's Taco Tuesday, and although I am really a fan of their Steak Tacos or their Chorizo Quesadilla, the Cheese & Chili Nachos are really amazing. It's not exactly Authentic Mexican Food, but whatever, there are plenty of places for that elsewhere. This is just a fun bar with good food. But sometimes the food can definitely take a little while to leave the kitchen, which is fine by me since the atmosphere is always lively and engaging.
I really want to like this place. It's seriously one of the cutest restaurants here in the Heights and I've been scouring the area for a burger joint (Go to George's Coffee shop on 163rd for no-frills, tasty and cheap burgers and sandwiches!) I came here with a friend who was also craving a meaty burger for lunch. We went on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm. On arrival, we were seated promptly and I was pleasantly surprised to find it wasn't as tiny as everyone says it to be. Some of the descriptions make the place sound like a closet! I was afraid I'd be elbow to elbow with the person sitting next to me but there was plenty of space to move.
We both got burgers and I'm not going to go into detail about what we ordered because the thing that left the biggest impression about this place was the time it took for our food to come out. Let me rephrase that. What stood out to me the most was the time it took for EVERYONE's food to come out. It wasn't a very busy day so I can't quite say what it was...maybe a new cook? However, even if they had a slow cook I can't see how it would take 45 minutes for a burger to come out. Also, it seemed like everyone's food was coming out really late and none of us looked too happy about that.
We were STARVING by the time our burgers and sweet potato fries had arrived. Was it worth the wait? Unfortunately, I don't think I would ever wait over 20 minutes for a burger to come out, EVEN if it was In n Out. Sorry Locksmith, you're gonna need to cook faster than that!
I like this place. A lot. Although there was a mix up with my fiance's order the first time we came here, I'm totally willing to look past that. Other than, service was good.
I had a burger, which was absolutely delicious. And the fries are absolutely delicious whether you get cajun, yuca or garlic ones. I tried them all... yum! Oh, and the sangria is out of this world.
Cannot wait to go back!
After jamming at a new venue for a open-mike with a good sincere friend, we both got locked-in at Locksmith.
An intimate wine and burger bar where the burgers at $10.95 are the reason to be locked-in. N.B. Avoid the cocktail drinks as it is very discouraging steep in price at $11.00 each and hones a strong alcohol content. Their burgers are delicious and contains solid definite underwriting for substance. My house salad at $7.95 was good to delight my appetite, which I freefall for food envy into my date's burger. The music is monster truck loud to drown all conversation where a degrading remix and updated version of 1987's Dirty Dancing "Time Of My Life" by Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes is played. Â Former home to a locksmith with its original signage on the outside facade which is now a burger bar restaurant.
For the evening to be locked-in the physical presence with a delightfully sweet, devine, always remarkable was worth my long-haul journey to the Heights, Washington Heights. Â Get yourself LOCKED-IN at Locksmith!!
There are many things about Locksmith that make it great!
- Although it is small, it has a cozy feel. Â All the seats are barstool height and they've had the courtesy to provide hooks under the table and bar since there is little space to put your bag and/or coat.
- Almost every day of the week has a "deal;" we went on Saturday for brunch which is a very good deal -- bottomless mimosa/screw driver/bloody mary with your entree.
- The service was amazingly great, especially because it was staffed by one waitress/bartender who happily took orders, brought out orders, brought/refilled drinks, bused tables, and chased after people who forgot their bags inside. Â She even asked us, after our first rounds of bottomless drinks, if we wanted to stick with our choices. Â She really made the dining experience very pleasant.
- Hamburgers were great! Â There is a huge array of toppings that you can choose from and the included fries are also great, especially because you're also given many options as to what kind of fries you would like.
Negatives: a very foul tasting glass of water (although the waitress immediately brought me a new one), yucca fries were a little dry, turkey burger was not bad but also nothing to rave about (the hamburgers are definitely the better option), and the bottomless drinks are a little on the weak side (but also bottomless, so...).
I was drawn by half-off wine wednesdays, but ended up going for the excellent beer selection they have on draft (hurray for Brooklyn summer ale).
It's a cosy, intimate bar, great for chill evenings and conversations with good friends.
The bartenders were friendly and very gracious. my boyfriend asked if he could take a couple Brooklyn brewery coasters and the waitress offered him a fresh stack--so sweet!
would love to make this my neighborhood bar.
Price: $5 up
Highlight: Intimate; You can hear your dining companion.
$3 mixed drinks until 8pm for happy hour even on weekends!
Ladies night 2 for 1 drinks starts at 10pm!
Bill - $29.50. For 2 people during happy hour we had the sliders (3 mini burgers with cheddar), wings and cajun fries. Food was decent.
This is the place I have been dying to find. Not a chain, not a wine bar, not a lounge blasting loud music, you still hear top-40 music at a decent volume, not a sprawling place - just a nice chill, not too adult yet not for the foetuses (foetii?), nice, Â incognito alternative to one's own living room.
All the comfort foods  are represented - sliders, fries, wings, quesadilas, burgers etc. They also have a brunch menu. My friend said it best - you know those weekend days where you don't really want to go far from your house but you want an environment thats not someone's house - this place works. Thank you for existing.
Frequently asked questions:
Q: Can they fix my broken door lock?
A: No, but they can fix you a drink.
Q: Can I get an extra set of keys here?
A: No, but you can get an extra side of yuca fries to go with their yummy wings.
Q: Do they sell chain locks?
A: No, but they have a water bowl chained to their specials chalkboard outside so both you and your dog can have a drink!
Q: Can they help me install a deadbolt on my bedroom door? I think my roommate is wearing my drawers.
A: No, but you can take your roommate here on a Saturday, order a bottle of wine with their $20 bottle of vino special and explain to them that wearing someone else's underroos is just plain wrong.
I like the Locksmith, but I know a lot of you may not. It's a little tight, a little cramped, and the selection - while very good - cannot compare to some of the hipper winebars downtown. But for an after-dinner drink or a pre-party cocktail, I give the Locksmith two high-fives (and one to the side, as well).
Situated in a former Locksmith's den (hence the name), this place serves good food and good wine for prices that are reasonable. It also has live music and poetry many nights out of the week, which sounds great, but may not be for everybody: in such tight quarters, the music can be a little loud.
Beer is available, too, but it is not the highlight. For those more into cheap drinks, might I suggest Monkey Room up the hill. The Winebar is a place of dim lights and calm reflection, so act appropriately, New Yorkers!
DRINK SELECTION: Above-average to good. It's not going to blow your socks off, but the ambience and attention to detail more than make up for it.
FOOD: Good. It's not dinner food, but it'll satiate your hunger pangs.
SERVICE: Quick and attentive. As the entire bar could fit into a medium-sized conference room, it shouldn't be anything but.
Hop off the 1 at the 191st street stop and walk down the long tunnel: do NOT go up the elevators. Northern Manhattan can get a little tricky navigating, particularly when drunk or unfamiliar with the neighborhood, so make sure you know where you're going first!
Went to Locksmith last night seeing as I had just heard of it recently and my gf and I were looking forward to trying out a new neighborhood spot and since we both love burgers seeing the menu this place was particularly enticing. We arrived and were immediately pleased by the quaintness of the room, small yet homey and very warm. We were greeted and spoke with the owner, Oscar for about 15 minutes and it was nice to see how nice a guy was running the place. Both him and the bartender were very nice and accomodating.
I got a Brooklyn Lager and my gf got a wine which she enjoyed.
The best part, however, was the burgers. We have been looking for a good local burger place, and this looks to be it. The menu is small, but the burgers make a nice showcase with a nice variety of toppings. Only wish was that they had dessert of some sort.
Overall a great little spot and we will definitely be back again.
Ok, get this, people. Â There's a WINE BAR in the 190s on Broadway. Â I've lived here for almost 4 years, and I never thought I would utter those words. Â (Ok, I never thought about saying that specific combination of words, but in retrospect, I should have). Â This is a small little bar that used to be a locksmith's (good story: I bought my apt's lock there) and which is next to a check-cashing place and new building going up on the corner of 192nd and Broadway.
I went in on a Thursday night about 8pm, and there were only a handful of people inside. Â There was music on, but not overwhelmingly loud, and candles on the table highlighting the exposed brick walls. Â In other words, a nice inviting atmosphere. Â Some old locksmith memorabilia, 2 TVs, with sports on, and some photographs for sale on the wall. Â Nice.
Within a half-hour, the place filled up, with friendly people of all ages and backgrounds. Â Where have these people been all of my life? Â It was very encouraging. Â They also have a happy hour...
They now have a quaint food menu (burger, chicken sandwich, salads, portobello sandwich, etc.) and I had the portobello sandwich with some fresh mozzarella, on ciabatta, with some fries. Â Mmm. Â There's a wine list, Â with a dozen or so varietals by the glass, and reasonably priced too ($6-8 a glass, something like that) Â I've been there twice now - on one visit I had a nice generous glass of Malbec, and on another, a pretty round Sangiovese. Â
I can't say how pleased, and shocked, I am that there is a nice little bar near me. Â If you're in the hood and don't feel like drinking at home, or going to 181st or up the hill to Ft. Washington, you should definitely check out this place. Â I look forward to going back sometime with a friend...
