I finally got around to coming in for brunch. It almost like a different place, the romantic ambiance of a French dinner replaced with the sleepy feel of an early country morning, the sun's rays even lazily wafting thru the windows. I try to come eat here when I can, that not a lot due to great French restaurant cost a bit of money, well worth it. I was happy to see brunch is impeccably priced for the place, it's still about 10 to 15 an plate. For brunch i passed on wine and had coffee with some of the heavy cream they bring you. I tried escargot and liked it the meat was tender and flavor full covered in butter garlic and herbs. That the second time Louie has changed my option of a dish. With the steak and eggs for my main dish, I wound up with three large eggs and a great stake with a bit of herb butter atop it. The meal ended with some of Sasha's potatoes, a combination of ample herbs, rosemary and crisp hot cubed potato. The food here is great and the service is always good, I recommend it when you have some time, come for dinner or brunch and have some wine.
Review Source:I Have been here several times before, each visit leaving me with mixed feelings, so I refrained from jumping to any "yelp" conclusions. Â I like what this place is trying to do, and I love French food, which is really what most basic good food is..... So again, I really wanted to like this place, but...... "Louis le francais" is terribly flawed. Â
This is an unfortunate case of someone who knows how to cook, not how to run a business. In this recent visit we had three people wait on us, they were nice, but appeared to have no idea what was going on, at all. I thought our first server was some guy off the street playing a joke...... it was no joke.
Due to the very long wait we were served four helpings of their delicious bread, and it is delicious, we received our lunch and it was, well, not worth the wait. Â
Despite these shortcomings I am still not ready to give up. I hope it gets better.
My wife and I patronized this restaurant for our six-year wedding anniversary and we couldn't have been more pleased. As we were seated, the hostess sang us a special tune celebrating our anniversary (they did not know it was our anniversary until we got to the restaurant - the hostess knew the song by heart). Immediately, my wife and I started reminiscing about our honeymoon in Paris as Louis Le Francais transported us back to that time. For appetizers, we had the pâté and French Onion Soup (both exquisite) and for our entrees, the Steak Bordelaise and a Sweetbreads special. Everything about the food and service was fantastic. We've now found our go-to spot for special occasions.
Review Source:I really wanted this to be better than it was since the service was so great and attentive. Â However, we had a few bumps. Â My wife got the prix fixe menu and I got individual courses. Â Her app was a squash soup and it really was fantastic (she is writing her own review so I won't go further into her meal. Â I did try her soup). Â
I got the french onion soup. Â It wasn't that good, not bad, but not good. Â It needed a lot of salt since there wasn't any seasoning. Â For an entree I got the steak bordelaise. Â There were a few problems with the steak. Â I ordered it medium rare, it came medium (not a big deal, I can deal with medium). Â But the steak wasn't seasoned and was bland. Â The bordelaise sauce was also bland (the lentils we got had more flavor and I hate lentils). Â In addition the steak wasn't seared at all; Butter? Â Hello?! Â My steak experience wasn't French to me. Â And for $27 I'd expect a steak thicker than what Golden Corral sells.
For a little background, I've been to France and most of Europe. Â I also eat in high end restaurants (Ramsay, Burke, Ripert, Collichio, Carroll, etc.). Â I can't cook French food very well, but I do know how to eat it. Â
It might have been an off day, but I don't like to drop $100 on a restaurant's "off day." Â This place has a lot of promise and I recommend you try it and decide for yourself.
I don't think I have been to a better restaurant in my life. Â It's this good. Â I am a very big lover of french food and this is my mecca. Â It is wonderfully located in downtown New Albany, Indiana, 10 minutes from Louisville. Â Make the journey for this place.
When we first arrived we were greeted very warmly and were seated. Â YOU MUST MAKE A RESERVATION. Â We went right when they opened and when we left there was a sign on the door that said reservations only for tonight, but then again it was a Saturday night. Â Might be different on a weeknight. Â Tues-Sat hours.
The menu is a fixed 4 course meal, appetizer, entree, salad, and then dessert in that order. Â And every night the meals are different, but I do know that some options stay on the menu. Â So you choose your options and be prepared to have the best meal of your life. Â I choose for my appetizer I choose the quiche option which was potato and bacon. Â 5 stars! Â Light and fluffy and savory. Â A little slice, just perfect portions. Â Next was my entree course. Â I chose the stuffed chicken with mushroom puree and raspberry sauce. Â Also every entree is served with a side, tonight's side was lentils. Â Everything was melt in your month good. Â Perfectly flavored and portioned, also the lentils came in a cute little Le Creset pot. Â loved it! Â Next course was a salad, which was cool because Americans we are used to the salad first, but it was a palette cleanser in this case, perfect opener for the dessert. Â The salad was mixed greens with a lite oniony vinaigrette and small lite croutons. Â
DESSERT! Â ok, arguably the best. Â I choose the apple fritter which was a whole apple baked with caramel and chocolate sauce. Â OMG, it was great. Â The smell of it was great, I wanted it in a candle. Â My mother choose the chocolate mousse, which is apparently what Chef Louis prides himself on. Â It was divine, light, fresh, sinfully delicious. Â So simple of a little chocolate mousse cup that we both eagerly inhaled. Â
Food-- amazing  5+stars
Beyond the food, the service was impeccable. Â The prices were extremely reasonable, between $24-$37 for 4 courses. Â amazing. Â They also have an extensive wine and bar. Â I overheard the waiters giving great wine pairings per dish, so they know what they are talking about. Â Between courses, the timing was great. Â They didn't bombard us with the dishes. Â The tea for drink that we had was perfectly brewed and the baguettes with the meals were perfectly crunchy to make a perfect baguette. Â Ran by a real french chef. Â I now have a new favorite place in the Louisville area, and surprisingly its in Indiana! Â
It's a must see and eat.
