I love LUNA and I don't even dance very much (unless I'm hammered).

It's an eclectic group of party people, from hipsters to sexy ladies in dresses to guys with huuuuge beards. I like the diversity. I've never once had a problem with a douchebag at LUNA, and I've been going for 2-3 years. The drink specials are legit (free drinks on Wednesdays, hell yes) and the $2 You-Call-Its are amazing. The music is also pretty solid -- mostly electronic/techno with some rap thrown in here and there.

The place is down to earth and I like that. I also like that I can smoke a cigarette and not get my beer/whiskey taken by some overzealous employee. If you want to avoid the frat boys and ditzy girls you'd see at most spots on Main Street, go to LUNA.

They have the blueist of moons here. The bartenders here have the best butts. Give them a smack!

My friends and I went out to Luna last Saturday and had a blast!! It's been a while since we had been there and theyve made some great updates to the bar. Much more opened up now! We received great service from the friendly staff. I would recommend anyone that likes a high energy environment with crazy drink specials to give Luna a go!

Went out to Luna with girlfriends on Saturday night and had a great time. The service was great, and staff was friendly. One of my friends left her wallet on the table and  went dancing. The bouncer took and kept her wallet until we got back to the table. Was nice to know that  they don't just stand around. Drinks were coming fast and tasted great. The music was perfect for dancing. Crowd had a nice mix of everyone. Oh, and the photo booth was a riot!

Why not 5 stars? Even thought the dance floor is nice in size, the place got so packed closer to midnight, it was not funny.  It was impossible to sit at the table without someone bumping into you every second.

I would definitely recommend reserving a booth, not a table. Actually we called in two weeks ahead to reserve a booth, but at that point, they were all taken. So we ended up with a table, which was better then standing around. Also got a bottle of champagne on the house. We didn't notice champagne at other tables, so can't guarantee that it automatically comes with reservation.

    We will be back!

I have been meaning to visit Luna since moving back to the Detroit area a few months ago. I finally made it out there this last Sunday night with 4 of my friends and had a ball. Best part of Luna was the size of the dance floor. We came out to hear the Killer Flamingos and dance and there is plenty of room to do just that. I also loved that in a few places on the dance floor you can feel a nice fan blowing from the ceiling it really helped to cool down and made it a lot more fun than getting waaay to sweaty. It was really crowded which might have been because no one had to work the next day (Christmas Eve) but I enjoyed the wide variety of people there. It was easy to make friends with new people on the dance floor, and it was easy to pay cover with a credit card - the line moved quickly to get in the door and there is plenty of free parking. The bar area was small and overcrowded yet I got a drink quickly and easily.

I look forward to checking out Luna again, hoping for another positive experience. I recommend visiting when the Killer Flamingos play on Sundays simply because they are a quality, entertaining cover band that usually draws a good crowd of people wanting to dance and have fun!

This sounds really mean I know, but when I think of Luna I think of a barnyard. Just an odd, sad collection of people and music, just pretty crass, just kind of desperate. I guess it's just sort of divey and I was expecting something different, and that may well be my fault. That being said, I hope you get better. Soon.

Once upon a time, there was a place where jaded twenty and thirtysomethings could congregate in a come-as-you-are atmosphere and enjoy some of the finest alternative and industrial music that could be found.

A place where City Club patrons could find refuge after letting go of the poseur schtick.

A place where 80's night felt like the club in Pretty In Pink, except that you never needed to be Duckie, because going home alone meant that you probably did something wrong -- or that you just weren't looking.

A place where rattling off the 89X playlist wasn't even sort of the kind of credibility that you needed to be pretentious about anything happening inside.

And now... a 95.5 night? Bachelorette parties? As if that wasn't insulting enough, the Killer Flamingos? What? Were the bars in Novi booked that night?

Children, that's why older reviews of Luna bear no resemblance to the douchenozzle festival it is today. What was once precious and rare is now like a college town bar for people who didn't go to college.

Honestly not my kind of place. I don't dance and I dislike not being able to hear people talk but I'm there every wednesday to get my cheap ass drink on! HELL YEAH!

I went here with my boyfriend for his friend's birthday celebration. I didn't really know what to expect for a Friday night so I wore a casual-ish dress. As we were walking up the first person I see is a guy in a white tank top. Immediately I think "Great, I'm definitely overdressed!" So we go in and pay the cover, find his friends and wait for drinks. They were playing a very eclectic mix of music. It was supposed to be 80's night I was told but they were playing music from a myriad of decades. As it turns out this is very fitting for the crowd. It was the most diverse group of people I have ever seen at a bar. The attire ranged from the most casual of clothes such as jeans and wife-beaters (I hate that term) to tiny tight club dresses and everything in between. The ages ranged from 21 to 50, although there were far less from the latter age group. I can't think of a single type of person who was not represented in some way. It was kind of cool actually because it was impossible for anyone to really be out of place or dressed inappropriately. I ended up having a great time. They have a huge dance floor and have dancers in every corner that stay surprisingly active and enthusiastic for as long as they have to be in constant motion. My only complaint was the ridiculous amount of time it took to get a drink. I think everyone should probably check it out at least once. Overall a good experience. I will probably be back again if for nothing else, just out of curiosity. ;)

    La-La-La-LUUUUUUUUNA

That's how I say it when we get ready to roll here. There's not much to say about this place, that already hasn't been said. I'm not particular to the drink specials as I'm a simple beer man, but I know a lot of my cohorts do. We always go on Saturday, as we like the alternative music a bit more. There's a pretty good mix there, and it gets the beat going. The range of people who come to Luna is crazy awesome too! We usually arrive about 10:30 when it's fairly dead. I like to come here when I don't want to deal with Royal Oak parking, or the jerks walking the streets. Parking in the dirt lot close by at this time usually isn't a problem.

About 11:15 / 11:30 the place begins to pack in. Their dance floor is huge. A simple rail 'defines it' but really it's all around you. There's good places to mingle, and ample space to groove. The drink 'counter top' so to speak around the dance floor rail is key to standing, and mingling while you sip near the dance floor.

There is always people running around with a mop, and dust pan/broom to sweep up anything broken. That mixed with the floor coating they use is an often under appreciated thing, but makes a big difference in your overall experience I think. I don't want to slip on beer, I want to dance my ass off!

    Try it out!

Honestly, I used to love this place. It is a great way to go if you are with a couple of people. If you are in a group, don't bother trying to go here if you plan on sitting at all, unless you make booth reservations.

I always have fun dancing, but the music has gotten pretty terrible. They used to play awesome alternative music, and now they seem to have gone completely mainstream. Nevertheless, it is danceable.

Drinks are decently priced. Staff is usually friendly and quick. You can print free passes online on their website.

The Coney across the street is the best place for getting sober, too!! :)

Used to go here a lot a couple years ago... I'll just give a quick breakdown:

    Pros
    - Bartenders are awesome and the bouncers don't have an attitude
    - Music videos playing the song that's on!! (Saturday)
    - Drink specials are good, although that's not why I come here
    - Most diverse crowd in RO. People that go here are there to party, not impress (cough, Blackfinn, cough)
    - Music is better than most bars I've been to, although seems to be repetitive week to week
    - They give out free pizza at the end of the night

    Cons
    - Can take a long time to get a drink because the place is always packed
    - Music is becoming more and more mainstream (I think LMFAO has played every time I'm in here - hopefully this will be out of the rotation soon).
    - It's a couple miles from downtown RO so its difficult to bar hop
    - $5 cover before 1am

Used to love this place.  It played great music, wasn't too crowded, and wasn't super trendy.  It was the dance club for people who weren't really into dance clubs.

They had good drink specials, and you could usually get free cover.

The music is the best part. They usually play alternative dance music, which more and more is Top 40.  But they still play songs usually dance clubs won't

My biggest gripe now is that it is very crowded.  It used to be full before, but now its bordering on a typical crowded night club, with alot of the "frat boy" mentality.

Haven't been back in a while, but I'm trying to find someplace new.

Killer place! Always a good time if you're into dance and house music. The crowd is usually the best in RO.. of course there are weirdOs and a couple Capt. D-bags, but u hardly notice them. You should go here unless you wear dress shoes and/or Ed Hardy shirts.

I've only been here once. It was on Saturday, their "alternative" night. Luna apparently thinks "alternative" means the most popular songs on the radio with a few popular non-radio songs mixed in. That part was a joke, but lucky for them, I have eclectic taste in music and while I was hoping for some real "alternative" club nights, I enjoyed the music they played anyways.

The place was crazy crowded. People packed to the wall. Drinks specials were good deals but as soon as they announce them the people go fleeing to the bar. I'd rather pay full price then join the drink-special-mosh-pit around the bar.

There was a good handful of creepers there. One was an old guy wearing a beret and just standing on the dance floor staring at people. It was pretty off putting.

There didn't seem to be a dress code, people in jeans and tshirts, which is cool in my opinion. But again, there should be a dress code against berets.

I would probably go back there again, but only if there was nothing else to do.

Luna for me hits on all 3 of the most important aspects of the local bar scene: unpretentious, good music, & good drink specials.

I'm continually surprised at how much I enjoy myself at Luna. At times I get SO BORED with the same royal oak scene (O'Tooles, Black Finn, 5th Ave, Woodys), & at those times I head to Luna.

They do a good job at mixing lesser mainstream songs (Shoes-Tiga, Fire in my new shoes-Kaskade) & easily recognizable songs (Lonely Boy--The Black Keys, Judas-Lady Gaga). Sometimes I dork out & write down new songs. For example, last night I was stoked to hear an electro-techno cover of the Stooge's I Wanna Be Your Dog...some may find a song like that disgusting, I find it awesome.

If you pay attention they have great specials -- last night they offered  $1 jagerbombs during the span of a song....yes please!

I havent lived here long enough to be aware of how Luna has evolved, and sure sometimes the clientele is a little sketchy (that's the risk you take going to bars) but Luna seems to make every attempt to help you enjoy yourself & for me, that's as good as it gets.

This club is supposedly known for its alternative dance nights, but lately it's been a lot of top 40. I feel like it used to draw the kind of people I love hanging out with (eclectic, artistic types), but the crowd has certainly taken a turn for the worse. I also have to take points away for the horrible service I experienced on my birthdays:
The first birthday I had there was in 2010. I asked if it was possible to get my guest list (about 15 people) in for free a couple weeks ahead of time when I reserved a table. I said I would like to pay for the cover up front if it was not possible. The Luna staff said it would be no problem, everyone just had to say they were with my party. I made a written list just in case. When I arrived for my birthday, the bouncer at the door rudely informed me that I needed a list for the guests that didn't arrive with me. I presented the list I'd made to him. Later that night I found out from my guests that they were charged cover anyway "because of the band." While I understand having to pay cover, it would have been nice to be informed from the STAFF THEMSELVES that that was the case because I felt like a jerk to my guests by promising no cover.
My friends seemed to like the club so I reluctantly reserved a table for my birthday in 2011. I was given a smaller table (which was okay with me). But the waitress told me that if the guests didn't arrive by 10 PM to take over a booth, then I would be able to move my party to the bigger booth. I waited until 10:45 PM and asked if it would be okay if we shifted to the bigger booth at that point. The waitress said yes and we moved over to the booth. My friend left cupcakes and a bag with some small gifts at the table while we danced nearby. About ten minutes passed, but when we made our way back to the table, all of our stuff was gone. I was confused and when the waitress saw me she gave a loud sigh, clearly having an attitude at giving us OUR stuff back. A bouncer came up and explained that the original party had arrived, so they removed our things from the table, but the original party thought the club was too crowded and left. After our waitress didn't come back for a time, we stepped away once more to get a drink from the bar. The waitress had allowed a group of guys to overtake the booth since she said "there's not a lot of room in here right now." I don't mind sharing, but where is the courtesy at this place? My friend and I have vowed never to go back.

Oh how you've changed, Luna. You used to be an every Saturday night kind of place for me. You had a steady stream of Goldfrapp, Morrissey, She Wants Revenge, White Stripes, Peaches, Fischerspooner, etc rockin all night along with great drinks and a super-cool crowd.   I should've known where you were headed as soon as you started playing SexyBack.  What started as an ironic way to end the night of alternative (and I mean true alternative) dance became a trickle and then eventual flood of mainstream pop. Now I think that's mostly what you play with the occasional nod to your earlier days.

You're not even a thought in my head when considering plans for a Saturday night. I hope you're able to sleep at night after selling out, I know it'd be hard for me.

Drop me a line if you ever decide to go back to your roots. I'll come runnin'.

Awesome drink specials. $2 for  whatever you want. I went on a Sunday night, but it was still super crowded. I guess it was because of the awesome band playing.

I realized a lot of the people there were gay, which is fine, but the most of straight men that were there were old, unkempt, and creepy. An Hispanic man kept trying to force my friend and I to try his "Hawaiian Punch." It got so bad that another man had to step in an rescue us. (Thank God)

The waitresses were generally good-looking, but a bit abrasive. The thing that put me off most was the annoying, stereotypical, biker lesbians in the smoking area. They were loud, drunk, overly affectionate with one another, and just ... gross. I could barely smoke.

The only thing I would go back for is the band (Killer Flamingos) and the drink specials. Not my scene at all.

I have to say I can really get behind any club that segues from La Bouche to Technotronic on the dance floor. I was in 90s heaven! Whomever was playing the music the night I was there was a hoot. From a block of top 40 hits (Usher and the like) to some sweet Michael Jackson tunes into some 90s dance club hits. I loved it. It was like my secret Ipod playlist was on shuffle. All it needed was some Ghosttown DJs "My Boo" and I would have pledged my allegiance to Luna right then and there.

The club itself doesn't seem like much on the outside. It's a little north of the main drag of Royal Oak and not really eye catching in terms of outer decor but let me tell you--there is a party going on inside. From really friendly servers and bouncer staff, to tasty cheap drinks, this place is a great spot to unwind, even during the workweek. It's not terribly huge and the dance floor isn't that massive but it makes it feel nice and intimate, not sprawling and intimidating like sometimes club can feel.

Inside the decor is painted black, perfect for lots of swirling lights. Plenty of seating with bar stools around the dance floor and a few larger booths scattered around. But seriously, who is gonna keep sitting when The Captain Hollywood Project is churning out some "More and More" over the speakers (look it up. You know you remember it).

Luna has been my constant companion most Sunday nights. After a long 3-day workweek, you just want to go out and get your dance on, watch people or just chill and listen to Killer Flamingos (one of the few local bands I like).

Going to Luna on a Sunday is always a bolt from the blue, but one thing is for sure, there are no lines outside the club (except on holidays)!!! You might think the place is dead on a Sunday but the club is always packed!!!!! The heterogeneity of the people you will meet and maybe have the chance to dance with and befriend is one of the finest "civilizing" features of the club.

The one thing I always miss: the drink specials ($2 U call It's till 11) but having two bars makes it much better. The bartenders are always dressed to the nines and receptive. Parking is never an issue and National Coney Island is right around the corner.

At Luna, you can boogie down, jump, hustle, skip, strut, and whirl all you want. Here, music and alcohol is the eminent desideratum.

Am I spoiled with big city nightlife?  Yes, but that's no excuse.

I am not a heterosexual male looking to score, and I'm not a girl who enjoys that type of attention...so I didn't love it.  With a group of gal pals I would go, but I wouldn't suggest it.

And I'm sorry, a line at a bar in Royal Oak that takes more than 5 minutes?  That's a complete joke.

Ah Luna. I've watched your evolution over the past 6 years, drinking here quite non-stop for a while there. Back from when you were open Tuesday thru Saturday. Back during the Chris Rohn days. Even when you were only open three days a week! You're a staple in the local scene and will always have a place in my heart.

But I will miss that old, truly alternative club feel that has slowly drifted away in favor of a more popular, more crowded, louder, different-music-style atmosphere. I feel like you deserve more than 3 stars for what you do for the area, but the patrons have ruined that once unique charm.

Luna is still a great dance club, don't get me wrong. If you're into the more popular side of things, you can't beat a Wednesday or Saturday night. The drink specials are absolutely retardedly cheap and just something to have your jaw be totally agape at. Don't like that style? Thursdays have retro, with everything from very early 80s to mid 90s. Fridays you have an interesting mix of local live bands, mostly cover bands. And Sunday, you have The Killer Flamingos, and everyone knows them.

My only reservation of coming here these days is, as previously mentioned, the crowd. Luna has slowly become more, for lack of a better word, "mainstream". You're starting to get your bros, your half-assed hipster kids, your girly girl bachelorette parties, creepy dudes being creepy, over drinking young men and women who obviously haven't paid their dues to the alcohol gods... generally a crowd I once ran with, but try to avoid these days.

This is the type of place I love going to with certain people. If I need a drink-til-fall-down-then-after-party-til-6-am kind of night and certain people are going, its a given. Luna Dancer dance shows? Given. But I have stopped going out of my way to go here. I guess you could say I grew up, but the bar has changed over time too.

The bar staff here are all very friendly and have the most out of this world fashion! Music is good ( check the daily specials to find what suits your personal taste, pretty much is something for everyone). They have great drink specials, sometimes even free wells before 10 on certain nights.
It can get really crowded here and for some special events you have to wait in line for-e-ver, but its usually worth the wait !

Tends to cater towards the  mid twenty year old hipster,  you will see a lot of skinny jeans and tattoos here !

    Ok,

Awesome bartenders! Love them with all my heart!

    Crappy dj's!!!
Whoever this dj is they got on Thursdays has got to go.
Top 40 80's was bad enough back then.
    Now, it's unforgivable.

Men's room door next to the pool table? Not a bright idea!

Less places to sit and now 2 people can hog a table that should seat 10 or 12? Not too bright! More small tables and couches!

Crowd is ok, getting a bit frat, but not too bad yet.

Need to turn on the ventilation a bit more.

Still a cool place to go and hang out during the week.

I tend to like my bars and clubs a little rough around the edges so I used to avoid Luna like the plague. I guess I thought it being located out here in RO meant it was gonna be full of lame yuppies/hipsters. How silly was I? Luna is super laid-back, with good (not great, but thats a part of the fun) music, and even better prices.

Ill occasionally stop in for 80s night on Thursdays, and I enjoy the live cover bands on Fridays and Sundays (sometimes) but Saturday is really the crown jewel of the bunch. $3 cover (again, only sometimes, as they give away free passes like water), $2.75 drinks, not to mention the every half hour drink and shot specials ($1 Kamikazes, $2 Long Islands, etc). Can't beat it. From GaGa, to Britney, to Lil Wayne, to the Lonely Island, to Journey, they play a wide variety music you can boogie to.

The creeper factor is suprisingly low. Oh they're around, but pretty harmless. Ladies you know what I'm talking about. Hell, I'm sure some of the creepers read Yelp, so hello to you as well. See you tonight!

I have danced many a night at Luna and always have had a fabulous time. Thursdays there is their '80's hotness party, Fridays are for bands, Saturdays house crazy drink specials and an amazing alternative dance party, and Sundays now have the Killer Flamingos! There are drink specials every night and Thursdays feature the Luna dancers occasionally with themed shows! Cover is not charged before ten usually and if you have to pay they usually give you a pass for another night free of charge, so it's win, win, win.

The bartenders at Luna are all very sweet and super fun. They may appear like they've walked right out of the American Apparel display windows but they're all delightful and quick to pour a drink and offer a smile, even when they have their free drink specials.

Luna is also an amazing amalgamation of personalities; you never know who you could be dancing with. I am constantly amazed at the collective of straight guys who dance like the waves on the ocean romance. Frequently I have to remind myself that we're not in Pronto anymore, but it's okay, everyone is dancing. And if you're fortunate enough, you've found a cold pocket on the dance floor.  At the end of the night too frequently pizza is just somehow there, and if that's not your scene you can always brave crossing Livernois to the National Coney Island (now smoke free!) for a Bosco Stick or blueberry pancake.

The music at Luna is always a pleasant surprise too. I love Saturday for combining mainstream Britney with MGMT and the Ting-Tings. I also delight when everyone is excited for HRH Lady Gaga. Tonight, before the Luna dancers presentation of "Divas" (which was fabulous) was great collection of '80's favorites ranging from New Order, Sheila E, and Madonna to Adam Ant, Erasure, and a random inclusion of Chumbawumba  (not from the '80's.) Drink specials on Saturday happen every hour during the playtime of a song and can be anything from $1.00 Jager Bombs to $1.00 Pucker shots.

If you're looking for dancing, people watching, or cheap drinking fun music in Royal Oak, get thee to Luna! I promise a good time.

Next to national if u need a drunken cheese fry.only issue is the music and cig smoke . Always bad pop. Wed is electro night but I don't think the dj actually knows what that Means.but if u like lady google weds are for you. Even  80s night even ends up playing a ton of contemp crap pop.

Cool and casual, but kind of grimier bar/lounge scene. Not grimy in a bad way - but meaning just as casual as it gets, with an industrial Detroit feeling inside. Drinks are a tad overpriced for how casual this place is, but at least they're made strong. They open at 9pm and have a decent size dance floor, plenty of seating and pool tables are available as well. Overall, the music was a mash-up of nostalgic hits, old and new. The fact that there was a line on a Thursday night in the bitter cold and a $5 cover was kind of lame. The fact that there aren't any pretentious people and that everyone actually dances and looks be to enjoying themselves is a plus point to note. This is a true "decades" style dance club/bar lounge, not a see and be seen or people watching venue. The crowd is very mixed and features many friendly patrons from the gay community as well. to

I like this as a casual go out spot, but would never reserve it for a special night out. It's nice that they have a free private parking lot and that a classic Royal Oak National Coney Island is literally across the street to hit up after.

THANK THE LORDS OF BAR NIGHTS the smoking ban is coming into play soon.

Luna - known for the alternative staff/venue/entertainment - is always guaranteed to be a good time at a good price. $2 you call its and great music on Friday nights helped me survive my last year of college.

...then I realized somebody with smoke allergies (moi) shouldn't spend the whole next day recovering from (not a hangover but)  the chimney effect.

I'm hoping come mid-summer 2010, I'll be able to throw a few back without the next-day asthma aftershock.

Having been a fan of more alternative music than grinding pop hits, I had wanted to go to Luna for a long time. But, of course, being the couch potato I am, I didn't.

Finally, NYE 2006 came upon me. I had one friend staying with me for winter break, and another joined us to watch the ball drop and play board games. Suddenly, two other girls came around, and after the ball dropped we were energized... where could we go?

I found out that Luna was open til 4am that night, so off we went. It was a blast. I personally enjoyed the music selection (ending the night with Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline"... love).

I am not sure why I haven't gone back since then, because my experience had been very pleasant.

The parking lot is a big plus, and the National Coney Island across the street is good for drunkards to go sober up at.

My favorite place to end up and dance until close. The drinks are reasonable, bartenders are always dressed up sexy and fun, wigs, lashes and all. Very unpretentious and relaxed. Music is great most of the time. Only draw back is that lately the crowd is a little cheesy, like they lost their way to Wild Woody's. Maybe the introduction of Killer Flamingo's on Sunday's? Who knows...Still I'd rather dance here than ever end up in a cheese ball club where men wafting in Aqua Di Gio donned in crisp white shirts unbuttoned a little too low are on the prowl....And coney just a stumble away, perfect.

Luna is the best club in the Detroit area and definitely anywhere close to southeast Oakland County.  The music is unique and stuff you can't hear anywhere else, especially in Pontiac or on the radio.

Each night has a different theme.  Wednesday is powerpop dance or something.  Thursday is retro dance.  Friday is live music.  Saturday is alternative dance.  Sunday is the Killer Flamingos.

I've been to every night except Thursday.  The music is always really good and interesting.  At first I thought Luna might be pretentious and only play really obscure stuff.  They do play very unique music but you can still hear Britney Spears and Lady Gaga.  It's always a fun time with good music and often times they show music videos.

Luna always has drink specials, especially before 11pm.  The drinks are not very strong usually.  But if you get there early and take advantage of the drink specials it's not very expensive.   The bar is very awkward and people tend to just hover around the bar making it difficult to order drinks.  The bartenders are very nice and friendly and work hard to get your drinks quickly.

There is usually a cover charge.  However, there are free passes online for Friday and Sunday.

Another advantage of Luna is that it's right across the street from a 24 hour National Coney Island.

The difference between Luna and the other Detroit clubs is that everyone seems to be having a good time.  The tribes of inebriated cougars are surprisingly absent (usually) and the hoards of gawking men just standing on the sidelines are not present.  Also, there seems to be a good mixed crowd of straight and gay people which is refreshing.  It's just a good crowd that dances and has fun.  It's great to just go to a dance club and have a good time.

Call me a purist, but when I'm in a bar and it's 80s night and the DJ decides to play Chumbawumba, Tubthumping then follows it up with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch Good Vibrations, it irks me a little. More forgivable was the sin of playing Bell Biv Devoe Poison, as at least that was released only a few months after the 80s ended.

It's not all bad here, though. I arrived right at 9:59, and the people working the front of the bar were kind enough to wave me in, as at 10:00 they started charging a cover. Unfortunately, the bartenders seemed disinterested in serving me alcohol, as it took a lot of waving cash just to get their attention. It was also crowded to the point where I just got used to people walking into me.

Take this review with a grain of salt, because I'm not a club guy and two stars is probably about as high a rating as I'd be willing to give any such establishment. It seemed like most people there were having fun, so maybe I'm just missing something.

Luna, I love you lady! I finally went to this place with one of my girlfriends. It's a really relaxed, unpretentious dance club which i like. The drinks are cheap and strong, and the music is awesome, they usually have a band on the weekends that plays today's hit music. And when the band isn't playing, they have a big screen with popular and off beat music videos and music playing, so you're constantly entertained.

The bartenders are really cool and nice, the girls dress up in some interesting sexy get ups. Very fantasy friendly.

Luna also has their own lot so you don't have to look for street parking like in downtown Royal Oak. AND, there's a coney island right across the street, 20 steps away for late night eats where you can sober up :)

Can't wait to go here again!

So fun! If you asked me if I'm the kind of person that goes to "clubs," I would probably tell you, sorry... no. I don't like to "go clubbing" at all the how new places with tons of men with slicked back hair and fancy t-shirts/gold chains, but I like fun, interesting music, and dammit, sometimes I like to dance to it after a couple PBRs. So, technically, this would be a dance club, but more like a club for people who don't go clubbing.

I am all about Luna because sure, I like cool hipster electronic indie whatever it's called, but I also really like Britney (and I am not ashamed to admit it!!). Sometimes, you just want to dance to rock it out to Circus. And here, I can do that, and dress up in a fun/creative outfit that I like, and I don't feel like I'm walking into a Guess catalog.

Saturdays are alternative dance, and there are also live bands and 80s nights. Anything goes, but it's juuuust mainstream enough for me to not be intimidated.

Luna has been a good time on every visit. Even in my mid-30s, I don't feel like a total freak in a mini skirt, boots and fishnets. I can feel like I'm still reasonably young without looking like a total loser (at least that's what I tell myself).

We've also brought out-of-town visitors here, and met up with other friends. Everyone has had a good time. The staff and the atmosphere are welcoming and fun.

The spinning booths are awesome, but be careful after a few drink specials!

I was very skeptical about Luna at first. I guess I just didn't know what to expect.

Luna was filled with my type of eclectic crowd. Everyone seemed to be doing whatever they wanted and not letting social norms dictate their night out.

Not only does this club play 80s music and have great people, dirt cheap drinks, and sweet artwork on its walls, but there are spinning booths that come straight out of an 80s sci-fi movie! Spinning booths!

I must also mention that the bar staff was incredibly friendly. Not what I expected from such a cool place.

Oh, and here's what made my night after a heavy night of drinking: The staff brings around free pizza for its patrons. Now that's great service!

Luna's a great place for those of us who no longer want excessive lines, snotty bouncers, or really overpriced drinks. Also for those who like a bit of irony in a music selection.

Luna is the next incarnation of the old Royal Oak Music Cafe. Not surprisingly, the selection of music is geared to alternative crowds; a long-lasting goth/industrial Wednesday night, along with an awesome alternative dance night on Saturdays (Which is always packed by midnight). I haven't been back to Luna on a Wednesday night for a couple years, but I go fairly regularly to Luna on Saturdays. This night they generally play (not surprisingly) alternative that can be danced to (and my, do people dance): Duran Duran, Billy Idol and other 80s, Portishead, Bjork, etc, and newer artists, The Killers, She Wants Revenge, and the like. (Honestly if I made a more complete list it'd be a mile long.)

The club itself is attractive. Ample seating, leather couches, televisions with ridiculous shows on, pool tables... and I recommend taking a spin on the two stainless steel rotating booths!

Drink prices run middle of the road (import beers roughly $3.50, and mixed drinks variating, but around $5 or so) but the Saturday night drink specials are absolutely killer: earlier this month they had $2 Jager bombs, $2 Long islands, and $1 French Whores.

Only problem is that club-goers have to wait until the DJ announces these special prices, and they can only be purchased during the duration of the song playing - so say about a 5 minute window of time.

Still, if you're quick on your feet, this is the best place to make a Saturday night out of $20.
