I love Vito. Â I love when I call in my order that he's curt and to the point. Â He's comes across as a curmudgeon but he's a sweetheart. Â Knows the locals and its not uncommon for him to be b.s.ing with someone when you get there. Â I love his eggplant rollatini. Â Food is cooked fresh to order and piping hot on arrival. Â
I love the small pizza shop. Â Its not easy to find these kinds of shops anymore. Â From the wood chairs to the checked red tablecloths. Â It's authentic and the ideal pizza joint.
I've been going to Vito's place for almost 20 years & I've tried many other places & none is as consistently good & not to sound discriminatory but a pizza place in which the owner/operator is "cursing in Italian" is the place to go
usually get plain or pepperoni pie--always fresh, thin, golden brown, edible end crust with a few drops of oil is what good pizza is all about
they also have the best eggplant parm & sausage parm sandwiches(the only place I never have to ask for extra sauce because it's plentiful, thick not watery/chunky & very flavorful
also, considering this is his only store prices are reasonable--a large pie w/1 topping & 1 sandwich for under $20
Vito is always talkative & he will also show annoyance if you give him reason(like asking him why he stopped delivering about 10 yrs ago) so be warned lol
Very dedicated I've never been there when he wasn't there so figure over 20 yrs 6 days/wk(they are closed Sundays)
if you're in the area give VIto a try--guarantee he will be better than anything in union county
case in point a couple of blocks away is Dominick's which was a "in the ballpark" 2nd but then the owner retired about 10 yrs ago & sold (so not to offend) to a "non-Italian" so if you like flavorless cardboard feel free to give them a chance also
