Awesome little place.  Not many booths but plenty of counter space. Good size menu for breakfast and lunch.

I love coming to Mac's for breakfast.  Whatever I order always hits the spot!  It is a standard family diner which is an added bonus in my opinion- they serve everything you would expect.  There is counter seating with booths around.  This place is a little small & always packed (which tells you that it is a favorite for other people).  It is also nice to see that the owner is involved- I've noticed he's working every time I have come in.  I always keep Mac's in mind for breakfast!

A real homey Chicago diner with good food and super friendly staff.  Great pancakes and breakfast skillets.

This is a friendly neighborhood breakfast-and-lunch joint which really delivers--I've enjoyed their huge omelets, breakfast skillets and pancakes many a time while staying at the nearby airport hotels. The convivial atmosphere is not forced--it's quite evident that many of the customers are regulars who've been coming here for years. Prices have gone up lately but are still very reasonable considering the quantity and quality. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Chicago--and to Mac's.

Mom & pop Chicago diner with warm and friendly Mid-Western hospitality.  However, the coffee is watered down.

I can not get enough of this place! The people are warm. The food is good. Both my guy and I had the bacon waffle. It is simply the best. Both food quality and atmosphere. It is a typical diner, small, always busy. I have yet to have a bad experience there and I've been there a number of times. I love Mac's!!!

Nice place, tiny.  Decent food fast.  Pleasant staff.

Big portions at decent prices, short drive from our hotel made it a staple. Often filling enough that we could skip out on lunch entirely. Way too busy for us inside, so we drove to a park nearby and ate there.

Classic diner, authentic chicago. Everything I've had there is great and people raving about the ham don't have it wrong. The people working and the owner are talkative and nice.

    Bring cash and an appetite.

I flew into the Windy City on a silver jetliner and found myself in need of  grub.  I'm on the nut so I needed a breakfast that wouldn't set me back a lot of cabbage.  I check the yelp* app on the ol' smart-horn and I sees y'alls flappin yer gums about Mac's.  I hit the pavement to see for myself if these reviews are on the up and up.  So babies, here's the straight dope:

Mac's ain't a classy steak and lobster dinner joint like you might find downtown, but that suits me swell.  I don't judge a greasy spoon just on the food.  Eggs is eggs.  That being said the ham was aces.  The service here makes the cut for me.  The dame behind the counter keeps my cup of joe full with a smile.  The owner takes time to chin with the regular mugs.

Mac's isn't hip to plastic so I lay a sawbuck on the counter and dust out for the flophouse.

All in all, Mac's is my kinda joint I'll flatfoot it here next time I'm in the big Chi and need of a bite to chew and a cup of java.

This is an incredibly small restaurant, but i was pleasantly surprised. They had really good granola crust French toast, with off the bone ham. The servers were all very friendly, and fast. We ordered our food and received it within 5 minutes. The place is clean, and bright. I will definitely go back for another meal!

I chose a hotel in the area that didn't serve free breakfast, and this diner was close by with great reviews. It has that hometown feel to it where "everybody knows your name."  When you walk in they tell you to take a seat at whatever table is clean or at their long bar seating where you can dangle your legs off the tall bar stools and watch them sizzle up yor grub.  It was decently priced and not bad food.  The staff is very attentive.

I don't often go out for breakfast, but there's something special about a non-chain breakfast spot. The sounds alone are worth the trip. The metal scraping against the hot griddle, the sizzling of bacon and eggs. Worth the stop if you're in the area. Cash only though.

I'm between a three and four stars.  The man running the place was nice.  Waitress was attentive but not overbearing. Food was good and at a reasonable price.  Coffee is not bad.  The reason I wont go four or above is due to the creeps who bus the counter area and back.  First one came over and grabbed cups as her full fledged stared me down with a creeper smile. Then the next one came two minutes later same as the previous.  Worse was when I left and walked to my car the first creep was out there staring at me until I got in my car.  Yeeks!  I wont be going there alone again, but will go back.

Mac's didn't offer anything that really knocked anyone's socks off. It was just your typical diner. I'm surprised it has as many high ratings as it does, considering the food, atmosphere and service is nothing more than ordinary. The prices are reasonable and there is plenty of parking.

Came here for breakfast last week while on a business trip and the food hits the spot.

My friend and I each ordered the breakfast plate that comes with eggs, bacon and toast. We ordered potatoes to share, along with a delicious Belgian waffle. We each ordered a cup of joe as well. The waitress was great. Constantly came to check up on us/refill our coffee. The food was what I would describe as "diner-y goodness."

This all came out to $30 (including tip). If I'm ever in the area for business again, I'll definitely give Mac's a second try.

Staying in the Rosemont area for business, and not one for hotel breakfasts, I found this place on Yelp.  Actually tried twice, but was unimpressed both times.

Service is extremely friendly and competent.  But after all, it's about the FOOD.

Taking the hint from previous writers, I first ordered the skillet breakfast.  Where is the GD skillet then?  Just a big breakfast shovelled into a skillet-like dish.  Not impressed.

Potatoes were blanc and overcooked, both times.
Eggs were cooked wrongly, both times.
Fillings were extremely stingy - hardly any meat at all, and diced way-too finely.

And warn a guy before you put american cheese on his breakfast!  I know it's the midwest, but still. . .

Still looking for a GREAT place on the east side of O'Hare.

Mac's is a great local restaurant that serves up delicious diner food for a great price. My family has been going to Mac's for years. Mac's has a welcoming atmosphere and the owner is very nice. I love the corned beef hash, yum yum! I'd recommend Mac's to anyone in Park Ridge or any of the surrounding towns.

I wouldn't name my first born MAC but I might go back....

Started out that I was at home hungry and lazy....I yelped diners and found mac....
I opted for the western omelet well done....with cheese.....

yes i said cheese :sigh: and didn't specify that if they put gross American cheese in my omelet i would pass out and die....or cry like a baby!

    Let's get back on track.

The omelet wasn't well done....I do not like a wet omelet's it please.
American Cheese ruined my day but that was my fault....
Girl who answered phone wasn't to friendly but hey it happens...all in all....
I'll give it another shot and be more specific!

It's been nearly a year since my last review and now I am a full-fledged regular. Mac's is the only place where the owner can trip me on the way in and that can only add to my experience. If you go, get the Mac's skillet. Not only is it my go-to, but the owner was telling me that he has a customer who drives up from Bolingbrook to get his fix of potatoes, cheese, onions, green peppers, ham off the bone, and over easy eggs. If that can't cure what's ailing you, then I don't know what can!

Do note that they close early and are CASH ONLY!

It ain't a place for Monday night business meetings, or Friday night hangover munchies.  Max is a place for a Sunday morning kind of love.

I love their omelettes.  They are delicious and so inexpensive!  Best thing before (or after) church, or really, any day of the week (if you're actually early for once).

The one thing that keeps this place back from a 5-star rating is the lack of credit card machines.  Cash only :-(

Awesome place with amazing service and super friendly staff. If you go, do yourself a favor and order the ham. It may be the best city ham I've ever had, and the portion is very generous. I had whole wheat french toast that was quite good, and came in a huge portion. My breakfast could easily have served two people, though if someone tried to take that ham from me, they would have left with fork-marks in their arm.

I'm not playing. Don't mess with my ham.

All this and a drink for $9 and change. When I'm  back in Chicago, I'll be back at Mac's.

We were staying across the interstate at the Holiday Inn and really wanted some breakfast. Closest thing? Mac's Restaurant.

Boy were we lucky. Little did we know that we would soon find ourselves in one of the most charming little diners I have ever seen.

Greeted jovially at the door by the staff, we were seated within a few minutes. I ordered the Mac's Breakfast Wrap which was delicious and perfectly filling. Nothing special, just a solid breakfast wrap. It came with some spicy homemade salsa too. The food came quick, service was just as prompt, and the staff was very friendly...offering us Chicago tips and asking about how our trip was going so far. The check came out to a reasonable 27$ for three of us.

I think I may just come back tomorrow!

    Food: 3
Ambiance and hard working friendly staff makes it a solid 4.

Busy, friendly place with huge portions.  The kind of place where if your waitress (not server here) doesn't call you "honey" you should be offended :)

    Tiny, busy, bustling.

The ham was especially good.  Breakfast solidly prepared. Good price.

Of all the diners/breakfast centric places I have eaten at.. this one is currently at the top of my list.

Have had the Farmer's Omelet and other awesome plates.

Something I need to share regarding my first experience here.  I arrived with my toddler son not knowing it was a cash only place as I am used to using the debit/check card everywhere I go and rarely ever carry cash.

I had ten dollars on me and was in a hurry to catch a matinee movie with my three year old.

She did all she could to keep the tab under ten and for that I am truly touched and they will always have my business.

Oh, nostalgia!  This was the first place the bf ate at when he made his first visit to Chicago, and mostly, he remembered the friendly service.

Well, nothing's changed about the friendliness of the staff!  They were accomodating, quick, and nice.  Mac's has an extensive menu, and I had no complaints with my egg over easy and corned beef hash.

Easy parking in the adjacent lot.

Love this little dinner.  Mac's is located on Higgens in Park Ridge and  I had seen the sign a few times, but wasn't sure what it was.
The staff is super friendly...all of them, from the host(ess) to the cooks.
The food is always top notch and speedy.  I usually go with the eggs, bacon and hashbrowns with rye toast, but I have also gotten the sparten omelet with salsa on the side!

Prices are really reasonable, but cash only. Coffee is pretty good as well.
    Definitely check this place out!

I think they are only open until 2:00 or 3:00pm.

I was coming back from the airport after dropping people off. I was looking for a place to stop for breakfast on the way back home. I found Mac's on Yelp and the reviews convinced me to try it.

First thing when I walked in, I was greeted promptly! Next I was offered a cup of coffee and a newspaper, all this within the minute I walked in the restaurant. Score +1.

I rarely eat breakfast out, so I usually splurge and get a good size breakfast. I was looking on the menu for some sort of combo with the works. Unfortunately Mac's doesn't have any sort of big breakfast combo.

I went for the Belgium Waffle with bacon. I also ordered a side of hash browns and milk.

I think I was through two or three articles in the paper and the food was ready. Quick service!
    __________

    The Food:

Belgium Waffle: 4 out of 5 stars

The waffle had very good flavor. I topped mine with a little butter and maple syrup. The texture was perfect and it was cooked just right.

Bacon: 3 out of 5 stars

Average bacon. It was cooked just right. The only thing is it is very thin. I like bacon on the thicker side.

Hash Browns: 2 out of 5 stars

The hash browns were just OK. There wasn't much flavor and they were on the dry side. If I return to Mac's I will pass on the hash browns.
    __________

The People: 5 out of 5 stars

Everyone one very friendly. The service was also quick, but not pushy.
    __________

The Restaurant: 4 out of 5 stars (for a diner / casual restaurant)

It's a diner. The place was clean and had a nice diner / restaurant feel.
    __________

Overall I think it deserves a 3.5 star rating. I couldn't push myself to give it a 4 star (Yea! I'm a fan.) this time. The whole meal including tip was about $13.

I will be returning, probably for lunch. I will post an update at that time.

Also, as stated in other reviews, it doesn't appear on the map in the correct location. They are located on Higgins just east of cumberland and the gas station.

Only been here once while it was super busy, but Ive gotta say I was very impressed! The staff is as friendly as can be, even when theyre forced to run around like a chicken with its head cut off. Being able to see the kitchen from the counter is really entertaining as well. These guys can line-cook with the best of em.
Very classic "breakfast diner" feel to the staff and the attitude lingering around.
I got a damn good and filling breakfast, as well. One of the better eggs benedicts Ive had and it came with an english muffin...which I love! More places need to over those with breakfast. In fact, I think it should become as common as tots are these days.

I'll be back, but hopefully some time when it isnt quite as packed.
Also - the hours are a little weird. They close at like noon or so, so be prepared to go at actual breakfast hours if you're a late weekend riser like me!

We stopped here one morning for a late breakfast.  The locals recommended it.  It's an old school diner that is only open for breakfast and lunch.  The menu is huge, there are several options available, but most of them aren't vegetarian.  However, you can make it work if you are a vegetarian.

I ordered a Spartan omelet which had feta cheese, onion, tomato, and spinach.  I also had an order of wheat toast and hash browns.

The service was quick and the prices are reasonable.  It wasn't the best omelet I've ever had but it was pretty good.  This is a great place to come for a quick and cheap meal.

I was in Chicago for six days and I managed to make it here twice with the multitude of restaurant choices available. That should say something about this place.

I have a soft spot in my heart for family owned places such as this. I think, for the most part, you get a better experience. I had eggs benedict, a window seat to watch all the traffic get on the Kennedy and a great wait staff to keep me happy. The prices are great and the food tastes just like homemade. It's really close to O'hare as well, so if you have a long layover, avoid the heartburn offerings of the airport and take the blue line or a cab over here.

One warning: It's kind of hard to spot this place headed west on Higgins. Just look for the gas station on the corner of Higgins and Cumberland and turn before you get there to get some amazing breakfast!

This place is your alternative to the $14 breakfasts around the Rosemont, IL hotels -- it is a true diner in the truest American sense.

There's a counter and some smallish booths, but the food and service are the best. Absolutely, try the ham slice with your eggs etc.

Slip your hotel/airport limo driver a $20 and unwind at a place that won't have you kvetching about your pennies.

Jonathan and I were staying in an apartment right down the street and walked over here for breakfast one morning. It's a cute little diner with some booths and a long coffee bar. Their coffee was decent and the pancakes were perfect, not too big or small, and cooked perfectly. And I got their sweet Belgium waffle.

I would totally get the waffle again. It had the perfect classic Belgium waffle taste, which is a tiny hint of vanilla with a fluffy light inside and a crispy crust. The service was fast and they were nice. When they saw us taking pictures they asked us questions and bid us to come again.

My wife and I went here this morning and I had to come home and give it a solid four stars.  Know one thing.  It's cash only.  There is an ATM next door.

The pancakes and coffee were good but what stole the show was the ham off the bone.  Delicious.  Not dry or thin like usual diner fare.  Juicy.  I'd get this again over the standard breakfast sides of bacon or sausage.

There is a parking lot on the west side of the building which is handy.  The staff was friendly and it seemed like a solid neighborhood place.  We'll be back.

Get a skillet. Have the hashbrowns. And grab some Jo and sit back and enjoy this fabulous little diner.

This is by far the fastest, most efficient greasy diner I have ever been to (with Cozy Corner coming in at a close second).

The friendly staff and owner greet you as you walk in, pour your coffee within an instant, and take your order right as you put your menu down.  The food's out and ready just minutes after you order it, and it's delicious.  I usually go for breakfast fare, like an omlette or an eggs/bacon/hashbrowns/toast combo.  Stick with the basics, says I.

Double bonus: Mike North of the Mike North Morning Show on 670AM the Score dines here every morning.  If this doesn't prove the "Bill Swersky's Superfans" stereotype about Chicago guys, I don't know what does.  Go get 'em, Coach!

Diner food served at this location for over 40 years. Great selection of the standard breakfast and lunch items along with changing daily specials. Go on Monday for the meatloaf and expand your gut by a few inches.

Hours are very early AM to late lunch. Avoid the weekend mornings when the place is packed with families. Problem is that that will be the time you'll need this grub to do battle with your hangover.

Map is not correct on this location. It is on Higgins just East of Cumberland in Park Ridge.
