I've always been a fan of this place, but tonight's meal rocked our world. It was phenomenal! Everything was cooked and seasoned perfect. The spring rolls were super fresh and crunchy.
My go to is usually the yellow curry or pad thai, but tonight's venture has added 2 new yummy dishes into the rotation! #23 Pad Mai Thai and #28 Pad Khing is where it's ate!

This is the BEST Thai in metropolitan Louisville: period!  If you are looking for convenient location or upscale atmosphere, go somewhere else (like Simply Thai).  If you don't care about atmosphere, are willing to drive across the river, and want the most amazing Thai food in the area, this is the place to be!  Highly recommend: #26 Basil Fried Rice w/ special egg, #14 Tom Yum Goong, Pad See Ew.  All of those are THE BEST - its not even close.

We were in town for a few days and wanted to visit a local restaurant for lunch.  We got the word out on Facebook and one of our friends wrote back right away and recommended Mai's.  We like Thai food so we were excited to try someplace new.  There were three of us dining together.  We shared an order of crab rangoon.  They were larger than average and tasted like most other crab rangoon we've had.  But it is served with a side of sweet chili sauce.  That made all the difference!  What a treat!  We all ordered different dishes so that we could sample them all.  These were off the lunch menu.  C. ordered Chicken Gaeng Panang and raved about it.  He was concerned because it is a curry and some curries can be rather strong and pungent.  He was pleasantly surprised by this dish.  The coconut milk helped counter the curry and balanced the flavors well.  Rick ordered Beef Pad Khing.  It was very flavorful with a nice mix of vegetables.  C. and Rick had steamed rice.  I ordered Chicken Pad Bai Gra Prow because I am a huge fan of basil.  It was flavorful, yet mild and exactly what I expected.  I ordered the fried rice, and found it to be rather bland.  Then we ordered one of each of the desserts available and shared them.  The Khoa Naew Sangkaya is a sweet rice topped with Thai custard that reminded us of sugar cream pie filling.  It was sweet and creamy, but not too sweet.  We all liked this one very much.  The Khoa Naew Dum is a sweet black rice with coconut cream.  This dessert was so unique - less sweet, but just as delightful.  Mai herself took our orders, cooked and served us.  It really felt like we were sitting in her kitchen at home.  She took her time with us and explained the little nuances of each dish.  And even though she spoke very little English, we knew exactly what she was saying.  It was a truly wonderful experience all the way around and we would not hesitate to return if we are in the area again.
