In the ever growing area of Rosemont, this spot is kinda in the corner of it all. From the outside it looks pretty plain, and the parking is way to small. Once inside its pretty dark lit with candels to give a nice romatic feel by the bar. The dining area is very closely put together, you might nudge another table if you turn around. I tried to get a margarita at the bar which was pretty hard because there were only 2 bartenders and the bar was packed, because people sit at the bar and eat. Finally i got a lime margarita which was pretty strong and good. I got the enchiladas verdes with chicken which was pretty bland allthough the portions were very generous. For a place in this area I expected better flavors, this is plain typical mexican food you can get anywhere(TBK is better). I will have to come back and try more things off the menu. This place gets REALLY packed and you should make reservations, but its proximity to rosemont area is the only positive.

This is my new favorite dine in Mexican restaurant. We loved our food and service. We started out with the fabulous salsa and chips that was brought to our table as soon as we sat down. After ordering drinks and appetizers we settled in to look over the reasonably priced entrees and decided on the Carne Asada which is a char broiled skirt steak with pico de gallo and quacamole and a Carne Azteca which is a char broiled rib-eye smothered in a wonderful spicy chipolte pepper sauce. Now I never put anything on my rib-eye except salt, pepper and maybe butter but this pepper sauce was great and not hot like the menu states. The skirt steak was huge...over a foot long and wonderful but I'm ahead of my self here. The appetizers were the Coctel de Camarones (Mexican shrimp cocktail) slightly sweet, filled with big shrimp with cilantro, quacamole, red onions in a red sauce and the shrimp Ceviche. Both tasted great and we could have stopped eating right there, the portions were big. The steak entrees were really good and worth the trip.
The only down side was we sat to close to the noisy kitchen but the place was packed. We like to sit in the bar area and next time we'll do that. The bar area is huge and lined with booths on one side and the huge bar on the other side.
Complimentary valet parking. There were several huge parties of 8 or 10 at a table so they can accommodate however many you have in your party.
Looking forward to going back!

The food here is mediocre at best and the service ranged from inattentive to downright bizarre. Our server disappeared for a good 30 minutes and at one point a busser got out a vacuum and started vacuuming the dining room floor - gross! The only thing redeeming were the great chips.

This is not good Mexican food. It was bland and typical of some Mexican place you would find out in the middle of no-where rural America. Absolutely nothing special. My girlfriend had flour tortillas and the food was so wet it soaked holes in them and her food fell apart. The food looked and tasted as if it was re-heated in a microwave. The salsa was not very good. The margaritas were nothing out of the ordinary. Many of my friends rave about this place. I chalk it up to them being from this neighborhood and never having eaten on 26th street or at many other real Mexican places. Either that or they must have different cooks who rotate and I always get the one that sucks.

Waiter. "How are your pork tacos?"
me "oh, that's what they are? I thought it was salt."

We had reservations for 4 this past weekend. The crabby host said we'd be seated in 5-10 mins but made us wait 30 mins while he seated the walk ins ahead of us. A group of his buddies walked in 20 mins after us and they got seated right away. Douche. Food was average, drinks were great and waiter was friendly but kept forgetting about us. It's obvious the employees (even the mariachi walking around singing) hate their jobs.

We were at the Intercontiental Hotel around the corner, and were happy to find this cute litte mexican restaurant nearby. Got a booth and ordered the Premium Margaritas and shrimp ceviche. Chips were good, salsa was awful-looks and tastes like Ragu spaghetti sauce. Everything was going great-we were throughly enjoying the ceviche and cocktails, then it all went downhill fast. We ordered another round of premium margs ($11 each), and some enchaladas.

When the waiter put our 2nd drinks on the table, I knew they were wrong immediately. They didn't even look like the first round-crisp and limey-they were orangey and cloudy. I took a taste and it was totally different. I think he brought us golden margaritas instead. When he came back to the table, I nicely pointed out that I thought these were not the same. He mumbled something about the bartender and said they were the same. I could tell on his face he knew they were different-come on-they didn't even LOOK the same. He obviously didn't want to do anything about it, and left the area. He didn't offer to make us another round, and althought I should have pushed it, I didn't want to make a scene. Basically-they dumbed down our second round. I might have enjoyed the enchaladas better, but the whole thing really irked me. And when the bill came, yes, we were charged for the premium ones even though we didn't get them (cost $3 or $4 more per drink).

I'd probably never go again, but if I did I would definitely sit at the bar so I could avoid the bad service and watch the bartender make my drink.

Mmm the mole. Guac very fresh. Good prices. Service (refills of water and salsa) could've been better. The salad or soup with entree is a nice touch but how about a Mexican-inspired dressing as a choice? (from 6/28/12)

I've been coming to Maria's for more than a year now and the food has improve or we just learned what to order now. Maria's has become an every few weeks visit and we always sit at the bar because Ray and Mary gives the best service and Ray makes the best Margaritas!

Ray and Mary are constantly checking up on us and re-filling our drinks before we have to ask. They make sure we're comfortable and when they get a moment they would stop and chat with us.

We are always greeted with freshly made tortilla chips and in house salsa, which is the best salsa I've ever tasted! As for the entrees my favorite has become the steak fajitas: http://www.yelp.com/biz_… - the steak comes out hot and fresh on a iron platter with all the goodies to make your own fajitas. I've recently tried the mini chimichangas: http://www.yelp.com/biz_… and they were delicious, packed with flavor and you can get with many different fillings such as, beef, chicken, spinach, but my favorite is crab and onions! Yum! But if you're a chicken and cheese lover go for the extra gooey, action packed ay! chihuahua: http://www.yelp.com/biz_… and you'll be in cheese heaven!

AS FOR DRINKS YOU MUST ORDER THE GOLDEN MARGARITA IF YOU COME HERE ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE A TEQUILA LOVER! But be careful, after 2 drinks you might need to call a cab! Yup, that is how good they are!

They tend to get extremely busy on the weekends so expect to wait, but it's so worth it! Since you're waiting get a head start by grabbing a drink at the bar!

¡Salud

Came in for lunch during the work week. A good preliminary test for any Mexican joint are the chips and salsa. This yelper always looks for some freshly made chips and authentic, popping-wth-flavor salsa. Not the case in this joint. Sadly, the salsa had an overly tomato sauce laced taste that was similar to spaghetti sauce with some strange sweetness. No freshness in the taste...perhaps this was a bottled sauce? The chips were fresh however.

We had the enchiladas mole and enchiladas suiza for entrees. The mole lacked flavor and the chicken was very middle of the road in seasoning. The refried beans were similarly flat to the palate. This was the kind of bland, gringo-style Mexican food one would find in a buffet line in Vegas or perhaps a frozen entree from the grocery. Not much taste here folks.

Overall a downer, however, the interior of the restaurant was clean and spacious.

Great fajitas and margarita's. If you're in a hurry, sit by the bar and ask for Mary, she makes the best Margarita's this side of Mexico, although you can't wrong with any of the bartenders. Nice to munch on warm chips and salsa while sipping on your drink and awaiting your dinner!

Maybe 3 1/2 stars but, who cares?

I found this place on Yelp when looking for something local and fresh and different to bring a big group.
The reviews were pretty good so I figured.......what the heck?

It was a Wednesday night and the place was jammed at 6:30 when we got there and jammed at 9:00 when we left.
Always a good sign.
Everyone had something different.....
Fish tacos.
Enchiladas.
Carne Asada.
Tampequena (sp.)
Tacos.
Tamales.
The whole nine yards.
Not one complaint.
I should say, that there were people from Texas and Arizona with us and they liked what they had. (I love people who live in, say....Montana, have never been outside of their county and say they "really know Good Mexican, or whatever, food". Watching the food network does not make you a foodie!)

In any event, the service was good, the food good and satisfying, the atmosphere was fun and the price was right.

I'd go back.

And if you're around the Chicago airport and don't want steak, deep dish or chain stuff....try Maria's.

We always have a good time at Maria's. What a little hidden gem off the beaten path. The margaritas here are to die for! The food is also great - no complaints AND we love their salsa. The salsa is so simple but so tasty. Why can't you buy decent salsa like that in the store. I think my favorite dish is the chicken enchiladas because their red sauce is really good.

Stopped in here to eat during a layover. Consulted Yelp and came here based on the reviews. Perhaps it really is good in comparison to what else is in the area?

I asked for a traditional margarita on the rocks with salt. The bartender then returned in under a minute with a margarita in a tall sangria glass. Clearly he just poured this out of a pitcher somewhere, and that's how it tasted too.

Based on that, I decided against ordering meat here and figured I'd just go the safe route and order cheese enchiladas. The cheese tasted cheap and gross and the beans tasted like they had been sitting under a heatlamp all day.

The guacamole wasn't horrendous, but overall this place was pretty terrible. I'd give it 1 star, but the service was friendly and the place was clean.

I should have based my dining decision on the fact that nobody else was in the restaurant when I walked in. Sigh.

Off to capital grille next door for a real drink...

If you must eat in the area of this barren no man's land, this is a good spot. Super crowded when I went, but they have a great bar and a nice dining room.

Margarita tasted like mix, not recommended, but everything else was awesome. Good salsa and all the rest of the traditional dishes rocked.

I would give this place 5 stars, but my last experience wasn't one I'd brag about.

For starters, I've been going to this restaurant for the past 18 years. I've always ranted & raved about this place for everything they offered. From the musical experience of a singer wit ha guitar walking table to table singing songs or requests, to the food which was just magnificent. This is by far, my favorite restaurant of all time. Hands down.

I've spent numerous birthday & family dinners here, however my birthday this year was another story. I made reservations for 15 people hours prior. When my friends arrived before me, they waited 15 minutes for our table. Whats the point of a reservation then? After seated, our server was just terrible. I dont know if it was his first night, but I scheduled my group dinner on a Sunday night to avoid a chaotic hassle. Very disappointed. We explained that a few of us were on separate checks, which seemed to have confused him. When half of us ordered margaritas, our server walked away without checking IDs, only to come back & check them, which only wasted more time. When our drinks finally came out, my boyfriend ordered an appetizer, which didn't come out until AFTER we already started eating our entrees. I asked for their "mild" salsa which NEVER came out. I finished my margarita before I was done eating & was never asked if I would have liked another (which I would have - if our server was ever to be found). On of my friends never got a refill on her coke or water. She actually started drinking another friends glass of water. After we were finished eating, a busboy grabbed our plates, at which our server FINALLY approached our table. Mind you, we hadn't seen him at this point since he dropped off our drinks/took our food order. My cousin yelled out that it was my birthday & she wanted everyone to sing to me. He threw a sombrero on my head, dropped off a shot of tequila & walked away. I may not have wanted to be sung to, but it's not only my experience but also for my group of 15. To top ALL of this off, my boyfriend's credit card was charged twice. I work at a bar, so I understand the concept of pre-authorization which this was not. This was a double charge for the same amount that he had to call & argue with twice that week.

You'll get bad service from time to time, but I feel like this place really let down my highest expectations. I spoke so greatly of this place to my friends & they didn't see what I knew Maria's has offered in my previous visits.

We went here for dinner for work, a party of 12. The guacamole was great. I ordered the pollo Vallarta which was good but left me feeling sick the rest of the night. I have an aversion to Mexican food so I suspect that was the issue. The atmosphere is dark and casual. Margaritas were good as well.

First review:
Ok food, back in the days .... 1999-2000.... way better than now , but it's a tradition already when in

Update:
I been coming to this place for about 7 years, every time I'm in Chicago, I go at least once to have a meal here, they changed management like 3 years ago and since then food and service have become not as good as they used to be. Food still good but service is getting worst. Tonight it took 1:20 after we order to get our food, I understand the 30 minutes wait to get a table, but 1:20 to get my food after they took my order???? It seems just ridiculous. Tonight might be the last night I come here. This tradition can no longer be part of my trips to Chicago

Generous sized margarita's, tacky interior and good food. Yes folks, this is my kind of place.

I hate the Suburbs. The only reason I leave the city is that I'm paid to. My Schiller Park office is surrounded by horrible chain restaurants and Hot dog stands that are filthy enough to give you Salmonella poisoning. Maria's is a beacon of light in the wasteland we call the O'Hare area.

I would rate the food at 3 and 1/2 stars, and the service at 5 stars. My favorite thing on the menu is the Steak Burrito lunch special. It's a generous Burrito loaded with Guac, sour cream and topped with a lovely helping of cheese. It's everything a growing (sideways) boy like me needs.

Here's the bottom line: If you are stuck in what I like to call, Western Suburban hell and need to satiate your appetite, stop in and see the good people at Maria's. It sure beats dining at a soulless chain restaurant of endangering your health at Billy Bob's Hot dog hut. Your stomach will thank you later.

If you're looking for Mexican food, Maria's is pretty darn good. I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food, but when the lunch crave hits, Maria's is one of my go-to places.

I enjoy dining inside with the authentic Mexican decor, and Spanish music playing in the background. However, during the spring, summer and fall months, chances are you will find me dining outside on their patio. There's something about the sun beating down on me, while enjoying a Mexican dish, that is relaxing and makes me feel like I'm vacationing in Mexico. It also deters me from returning to work. BOO.

Some favorite dishes:
+ Mini Chimichangas
Choice of beef, chicken, or crab meat served with guacamole & sour cream

+Spinach Enchiladas
Three soft tortillas filled with spinach and topped with tomato sauce, melted cheese, & sour cream

+Tamales Suizos
Three homemade tamales topped with tomato sauce, sour cream, & cheese

Service is always fast and friendly. Maria's is willing to accommodate any request which also makes me quite the happy girl.

I've yet to try the margaritas since boozin' during a lunch break isn't allowed, but I planning on stopping on my way home one day for a quick happy hour.

If you happen to be in the area, I guess this is one of the good non-chain places to dine at. Service was good.
I was a bit surprised by our check though, it cost even more than eating at similar place in the city!

The food was good, nothing really too special or really write home about except the spinach tortilla shell used for the gauc. was something different and quite tasty!

Its food in general taste similar to those offered in the city.
I would skip the margaritas though. We ordered the daily special (still cost $7.50) for the weak margaritas (i guess i had higher expectation since there were a lot of good reviews on the drinks).
Go to the Bar Louie in the area, you may get more for your bucks (drink-wise) :P

I've been coming here for years to meet one of my friends for dinner a few of times a year. We try to come on Monday nights so that Maria's isn't slammed because we know that we're gonna be sitting here talking for about 2ish hours. I came here last Monday night (MLK Day) and it was pretty packed, but that wasn't gonna stop her and I from our normal 2 hour conversation (sorry!)...however, we felt REALLY rushed by our server. Look dude, we're not leaving, but we'll tip ya extra since we're sitting here talking for so long, but seriously just chill out a little. This whole being rushed thing knocks ya down a star. We normally come here because it's an easy place to sit and enjoy our food and have a nice long uninterrupted conversation.

Now onto the food.
The table chips and salsa are always delish. The guac is awesome! We pretty much always get Steak Tacos (ask them to add cilantro, trust me!) and they are fantastic.

And onto the drinks.
The margaritas are always killer and creep up on ya! Check the website for drink specials before you go.

All in all, great food, but you might feel rushed on a busy night.

I love their margaritas! One of those bad boys will knock me right on my rear-end!

Food overall is good. I have been ordering the pork tacos lately and while most of the time they're excellent, the other day they were a bit on the dry side. Although I prefer this location to the one on Harlem, parking is a nightmare. I wouldn't recommend coming here after an Allstate event but would definitely recommend coming in any other time!

Still searching for a place to eat around this neighborhood, but NOW I can knock this place off my list. I wasn't impressed at all. It seems like they made everything spicier to compensate for the flavor factor.

-my salsa was completely 5 alarm. It wasn't even a slow heat of habenero. It was just caliente, caliente, knock off your socks HOT. No bueno in my book

-the horchata came in a mega small cup. Probably 12 ounces. It would've been okay if it tasted decently, but ehhhh, completely watered down. All water, NO RICE for this Mexican rice water.

-beef tacos were very different. It was chalk full of potatoes, carrots, chunky onions and it was a WET MESS. Made the ordered crispy tacos soaking wet, and it was a completely soggy sight once I made it home. I didn't care for it. Very disappointing.

I'd probably come here for late night margaritas and maybe try their carne asada. But for now, still searching for a Mexican joint in the area....

One word sums up Maria's. Authentic. Maria's is a hidden gem in located on the outskirts of Chicago, near O'Hare. I had no idea this place even existed until this past spring when my boyfriend took me for the first time.
Maria's is located off Mannheim Road situated in the business district.

I've consumed a lot of mexican food in my day, and none compare to Maria's. Everything is reasonably priced and you are presented with mass quantities of food. Every entree is served with a soup or salad. I highly recommend their black bean soup, which is very hearty.

I'm a creature of habit and when I find something I really enjoy on a menu- I hardly stray. With that said I've only tried a handful of items on the menu from the freshly made guacamole, the chicken mole enchiladas plate and combonation plate. I'm not a fan of refried beans, and they will gladly sub black beans instead. My boyfriend always gets the beef enchiladas suiza. He, too, is a creature of habit.

For libations, try the standard or peach margarita, they are potent and very delicious! Everything I've tried at Maria's did not disappoint and left me with a happy tummy at the end of every visit.

Went for lunch on 8/30/2010 based on Yelp recommendations. Ordered the combination platter for $7.50 off the lunch menu. It included a choice of soup (black bean or cream of broccoli). Service was fast. We were in and out in less than 45 minutes.

The food was above average for typical Mexican fare. In fact, it's the best that I've had in this corner of town. Everything was plated very well. They made Mexican food look pretty. The location was "off the beaten path," but well worth the trip.

This will be my main Mexican lunch place.

My favorite work lunch place! I'm a fan of Mexican and this place does it justice. The mole sauce on the enchiladas is highly recommended. Thursdays they have a lunch buffet that's about 8 bucks.

If you get the top shelf margaritas made with premium tequila and not a pre-made mix - holy cow! YUM and STRONG!

I love Mexican food, when the co workers decided to do lunch at Maria, I jumped out of my chair and ran to the car even though I was supposedly on a diet...a low carb one at that! Parking is a breeze, they have a huge parking lot. The decor inside is very Mayan, very tasefully done. You don't see crazy piniatas hnging low etc.

I got a chicken dish over spinach, I don't remeber the name, it was delicious. Lunch entrees come with soup, since it has pasta (carbs) I handed it to my co worker who absolutely loved it.The rest of the gang got Chimmichangas( 4 wonderful looking fried packages of carbs make one order) Carne Asada, Tacos(I think it was the chicken kind).

I can't wait to reach my weight goal so I can go here and pig out. I will definately be going back and getting the Chimmichangas for sure.

I got sick after eating here. While it's not necessarily the food, I was completely fine the next day. This handicaps the score - maybe I just ate too many greasy things.

The atmosphere is great. A mariachi guitarist stopped by our table, adding that extra something. The bar area is accented with Aztec (or Mayan - I'm not an anthropologist, fyi) frescoes and dark wood throughout. Plus one for decor.

We started with the fundido chihuahua, which was great. It's served in a tortilla shell and with soft-shell tacos that allow its flavor to come out. We also had the guacamole, which is nothing to write home about. We also shared a margarita pitcher among the four of us. It was good and about the right portion - I would say it's about five glasses worth (of which I had one - to quell any objections to the food poisoning argument).

I had the enchiladas mole with beef. I thought the mole was excellent. Looking back on it, while no one else got sick and that casts the blame on my enchiladas, I probably overdid the fundido. It had visible oil on it - so good at the time.

Like many others, I have seen a decline in Maria's food in recent years. Went last night (before Fleetwood Mac concert). Place pretty crowded. Nice parking across street.
Food so-so. I had Crabmeat Quesadillas which were just OK. Carne Asade was again, 'just ok' according to my wife. The Chile Rellenos I had were quite disappointing. My Coke was pretty good.
This used to be the place to go for great Mexican. Now I wonder.

Our fourth visit last night, thought I'd share some more opinions...

First of all, this is definitely an Americanized Mexican place. They do have some specials, but even those are things like scallops ala Veracruz..

But if you are looking for the more standard fare, like tacos, burritos, enchiladas, you won't be disappointed. I usually keep it simple here and get chicken soft tacos, my wife likes to get daring and order the Enchiladas Suizas and get on of each, cheese, spinach and chicken.

The chips are very good, they taste homemade, but I"m easily fooled by that. The salsa is very run of the mill and one of the weak spots of this place.

Their top shelf margaritas are fantastic.

The bar is hit or miss. It gets packed with business men from the nearby hotel, and then it's like overaged frat night, but on the weekends, the bar is empty early and a great place to wait for table.

Service is very good, with more than one waiter at times refilling chip bowls and water glasses. Portions are very well sized -- probably too big.

Prices are reasonable with most of the regular stuff still under $10 with rice and beans.

All in all, a great place to go after dropping someone off at the airport, or before a show at the Allstate Arena or the Rosemont.

EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!

My friend and I went here tonight for dinner and the food was fantastic!
everything was FRESH and I mean everything!!! the place was really nice inside and the staff was perfect. they didn't rush us out, considering there was a long line waiting to be seated. ( its Mothers day weekend ) Prices were not bad at all, dinner for the both of us was 35.00 and that included our drinks. they also have an area to dine outside or have cocktails when the weather is warmer... I will definitely be back at this place... great little hide away off the main road. if you liked Mateo's.... this place is a great replacement! I think the food might even better...

Yeah, this is one strangely located place. You would never know it was there unless someone pointed it out to you (I worked in the area for 2 years and never knew about it). Smack dab in the middle of an industrial park, its a cute place with outdoor seating (outdoor? what the heck! Who wants to look at office buildings and warehouses with planes flying 10 feet over your head?)

Food is unexceptional. Typical safe cusine. I was rather disgusted by the fact that our meals came out on a plate the size of my turkey platter. People, is this really necessary. And we wonder why we have an obesity problem in this country. As an aside, the people watching is FANTASTIC. But then again, any place in Rosemont, Franklin or Schiller Park is a guaranteed success for that.

The most exotic item was the enchiladas de mole (which was what I ordered). My date had the steak tacos. Tasty, but with so many Mexican/Latino restaurants to choose from with more exotic offerings and better locations, why you would want to come here is beyond me.

Mahi Mahi served with guac, rice, and 3 grilled shrimp.

and 3 baskets of the salsa and chips ( we were hungry)

We were so gluttonous we still ordered the mango chimichanga and the flan.

I had to roll out to the car after eating and suffered food coma on the way home!

We feasted with our eyes, tummies, and ears (the roving serenaders came by to play us a song) and still enjoyed the game at the adjoining bar after our meal. Too bad our team lost, would have been a perfect ending.

Very good Mexican food. The food is very good. The portions are a good size for the price. They are located about 2 blocks off the main road (River Road)
Give it a try you will like it.

Update(2007 04/02):

I normally get take from here. This time I ate in. The service was very good and fast. The chips and salsa seemed to have no bottom, they just kept coming. The food was hot and fresh.

I will be back to eat-in.

This place serves up piping hot standard Mexican fare. My office tends to order from this place a lot and the food is pretty decent - extra greasy... but pretty tasty. Their fajitas are really good and come in big portions. The best value is probably their sampler appetizer platter - HUGE value and can be split easily between 2 or 3 people. If you want a lighter meal, there isn't much to choose from but a "300 calorie" salad. Calorie counting aside, it's a good salad with lots of fresh veggies, orange slices, avacado, and grilled chicken breast.
The staff is very friendly and courteous. It's probably a little out of the way but luckily there are several Maria's around town. They're worth checking out if you pass by. Not sure if this still holds true but they used to have a great AYCE buffet on Thursdays - unlimited fajitas woohoo!
