East side and good dining do not usually go in the same sentence, but seriously people. Not to be a food snob, but this is not italian. In fact, I would not be wrong in saying that Olive Garden has more inspired dishes than this place.
Service has never been good here, and the food is just plain bad. Why do I get wilted lettuce every time with my salad?
Why do you serve freezer burnt chicken????
Why is the Chicken Picatta an ugly oily mess.
Don't get me started.
I really don't like to rag on the mom and pops, but this gives everyone a bad name. Blah.
The food is good Italian food. Â If you like Italian sausage, the lasagna is good (if you don't, you're going to be disappointed! Â It has plenty in it). Â They have arancini as an appetizer, which you don't see in a lot of places - and it's delicious!
The only negative is that the service can be slow. Â Our waitress was hustling all night, but it seemed that they understaffed the servers - don't go here if you're in a rush to catch a movie or something of the sort.
After visiting the downtown Mt Clemens location over the years I figured we give the new Hall Rd location a try. Â It's a brand new location and looks exactly the same as if they just picked up and moved all the decor to the new location. Not exactly sure why you want to make it exactly the same? I was expecting something updated, fresh, new, exciting, but that not the case.
It was a Friday night and the place was fairly busy, no waiting we were seated in a booth and greated right away. We started with some calamari, nothing to right home about a little rubbery. This is were it kinda made me have a flash to the show on Food Network Restaurant Impossible , the wife's Chicken Marsala was not what she expected kind of look like some one dumped some canned gravy with canned mushrooms over some chicken for a hefty 18.00
I ordered the whitefish siciliano it was nothing like what I was expecting, kind of way overdone crusted/battered fish.
I wish I would have stuck with ordering a pizza, I could see Robert from Restaurant impossible critiquing this place.
Had dinner tonight at this new location and I was disappointed on so many levels. Â First, out server must have asked us 5 times if we were ready to order within less than 5 minutes of being seated (even though our menus were still open and we were clearly still looking at them. Â I have some dietary restrictions so I made a special request for angel hair pasta with marinara...and because they had jumbo shrimp on the menu I asked if it could be topped with sauteed shrimp. Â Our server spent a lot of time thinking about it and trying to talk me into other dishes before saying...yeah, I think they would do that. Â My friend ordered Alfredo with chicken. Â When our food came out I just stared at my plate for a moment....there was a dry pile of pasta with a scant amount of sauce (not even coating the pasta. Â And it was topped with maybe a quarter cup of tiny (like the size of a nickel) salad shrimp...not sauteed, certainly not jumbo shrimp that were on the menu. Â After she plopped the plates down and made a big deal out of topping the dishes with freshly ground Parmesan she dashed off. Â
If I were the owner or even the manager of the restaurant I would have been mortified if my staff had served someone a dish like this and embarrassed to admit it came from my kitchen.  Then, to add insult to injury, they charged me an extra 6 dollars for the 1/4 cup of salad shrimp for a total of $17.95.  I checked with the server to see if an error had been made and she said "nope, that's what they told me to charge you".  Made no attempt to rectify the issue and though she claimed she was going to tell a manager nobody returned to our table with any explanation or apology.  So if you'd like to enjoy the same dish that I was served, go to Kroger and buy a box of angel hair pasta and a jar of Barilla marinara.  Then go to the freezer section and pick up a 8 oz bag of salad shrimp for 2-3 dollars.  You can then serve a family of 4 the same pasta dish for about  8 dollars total.  I will not be returning to Mario Luigis.  I gave them the one star for the friendly hostess.
I used to be a huge fan of Luigi's in Mt. Clemens and on Jefferson. Â I don't even know what to say now. Â Went to the new Mario Luigis Downtown. Â To say they have terrible service is an understatement. Â First of all, the hostess forgot to take my name, so when i went in to check on timing, she said she never wrote it down. Â That is your job. Â The waitress IMO had too many tables, but regardless, she was awful. Â All of our food came out at different times (there were 6 of us), no refills, etc. Â The food, well, i can't remember, so i guess it wasn't that great either.
Review Source:Fine Italian dining at it's best! Â Stopped in for dinner. Â The doors open at 3pm and there was a good crowd by 5. Â From pasta, to pizza, to surf -n- turf. Â Accommodations for a cozy couple to large groups. Â Attentive wait staff.
My Black and Blue Prime Rib was excellent!
