My husband and I went to dinner here on Saturday since we had a http://Restaurant.com certificate. The place was pretty empty for a Saturday evening! Upon being greeted by a friendly server, I asked her what types of red wine they had. She said, "I'm not sure." I said I'm sure you have Merlot, maybe Cabernet. Could you please find out what kinds though? She said, "I know we have Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio." I said those are white wines. Can you please find out about red wine? She said sure and walked away. I could see her consulting with the bartender and she came back to say, "We have Merlot, Cabernet, and ..." I cut her off and said, "Could you please find out what brand they are?" She said sure and walked away for the second time to consult with the bartender. She came back pretty quickly and said, "They're just house wines. There isn't really a brand." Well, last time I checked, this place wasn't a winery so they must be purchasing their wines from a distributor, which means the obvious: they come from a vineyard and therefore have a brand. By the looks of the place, I really was just trying to make sure if I ordered the house Merlot, I wasn't going to end up with Boone's Farm or the like. Anyway, we ordered the bruschetta and received bread that was obscenely smothered in mozzarella with hardly any basil and a few tomatoes. Last I checked, pizza had mozzarella and bruschetta had fancier and tastier cheeses. My pre-dinner salad was overloaded with dressing. I definitely should have asked for it on the side. And as for dinner, well I wasn't expecting my sauteed perch to come out fried, nor my roasted red skins to come out fried as well. My husband ordered the salmon, which was pretty bland. And to think we both ordered seafood, but neither of us received a lemon wedge. When I asked for one, I received a couple slices of lemon. The waitress dropped them off and said, "Will these work? If not, I'll have to cut some for you." Wow! Really? Why not just cut them anyway? I just took the lemons she brought. Then the real knee-slapper: my husband ordered a long island iced tea after dinner, and....it was served with a nice wedge of lemon! This place needs a makeover, desperately!

So my family and I had a coupon from http://Restaruants.com to use for Jager Castle Rock, and we've never been there so we thought we'd check it out. We went on a Wednesday night and when we pulled into the parking lot at 7pm and there were only 3 cars in the lot, I became worried. Upon entering the massive building I was confused. It felt like a huge place for drinking and had various gathering places all over - dance floor with tables, pool table area, massive seating area for just drinking and then we finally saw the actual bar. All of these areas were empty by the way - except for a couple of guys sitting at the bar. I asked where the 'dining room' was, and was lead to the completely empty dining room at the back of the building. Very cool decor and if I was there as a 20-something on a Friday/Saturday night to party and socialize, and IF there were people in there - it would be pretty cool. But that wasn't my purpose - so on to the the dinner. There were 4 of us - and we ordered the Oyster Rockefeller, which was good - I've had better, but I've also had much worse. I ordered off the daily menu - got the cajun stir fry, and found it too spicy (I had asked the waitress about the spice level, as I know it can vary, and she said she had it the night before and it wasn't spicy at all). My daughter-in-law had the cajun tortellini and also found it too spicy but tasty. My son and husband ordered the prime rib. I was wondering 'how do they keep a standing prime rib with all done-ness levels, with NO people in the restaurant....?' They both ordered medium rare - and when they came to the table the surface of the meet looked overdone. When they cut into it - it was raw (or EXTREMELY rare at the very least). ahhh - now I know how they do it - they keep it raw and just sear it when needed.... Hmmmm. They both said it had a good flavor - but my husband couldn't eat the center and brought it home to microwave for lunch. My son just left the center on his plate. So... not very impressed with the dinner so far. We did get full - but mostly on the salad/soup and oysters..... The coupon we used did say that they automatically added 18% to the bill for the tip, which is totally ok - as I know people tend to not tip on the 'original' bill when using a coupon. However OUR waitress deemed it necessary to add 20% to the bill. I wasn't going to make a scene over a buck or two - however, I thought that was pretty rude. My answer - just don't go back. This place needs to figure out - am I a bar??? - am I a restaurant??? and then try to focus. I'm sure they'd do better with burgers and chicken fingers.
