Westfield is a strip of a town about a block long - very old school. It is surrounded by corn and soybean fields that are being absorbed by strip malls and sprawling subdivisions at an alarming rate.
The town of Westfield was established in 1834 - yeah...almost 200 years ago! If you Wiki Westfield, the picture that comes up is of Marlow's Cafe. I think this says a lot. In fact, I contend that if Marlow's went away, Westfield would go away too. I'm serious. Marlow's IS the center of this community.
It's a cafe's cafe. Clean, cheap and good. Today, on my quest around the countryside looking for the best corn on the cob, I stopped in for breakfast. What a pleasure. Locals talking about this and that, the people in the kitchen laughing and enjoying the morning. Good coffee and better service.
Also - a 1/2 lb. burger for $4.25 - Christ!
Only open for breakfast and lunch.
I got a great tip on corn too...I love small town USA.
My wife and I met three cousins there for breakfast based on reviews from the Internet, here and elsewhere. Â Since it's a small place I was concerned about seating and monopolizing a table for a long visit.
Fortunately at 8:30 on a Friday it wasn't crowded and the waitress happily made us a table for five. Â Service here was excellent.
We had seen at another site the biscuits and gravy were considered very good so my wife had that. Â She was disappointed in the blandness (and she doesn't use highly spiced food). Â I had sausage and eggs and potatoes, which were fine though the sausage could have been spicier. Â I didn't quiz my cousins but everyone seemed satisfied and, though we stayed nearly till lunch time the waitress kept happily coming back with coffee.
It is very friendly and warm. Â The room is pleasant. Â I'd happily go back.
Cafe? Marlows! Marlow's? Cafe! Marlow's is a cafe in all respects they only open for breakfast and lunch. They are not open every day. But the food is very good cafe fare. The room is small and simple while still warm and friendly. They have daily specials which are posted in the front window each day. They are all about good food for good people!
Remember to eat well and live well! And please no chains!
