Sometimes I crave MCL. Â I've been going to MCL ever since I was a little child. Â This is a cafeteria-style restaurant where you go through a line and select your food before sitting in the dining room.
They offer several entres that change from day to day, many salads, sides (such as macaroni, mashed potatoes, etc) and desserts. Â The food is usually very good and the staff is friendly.
I was pretty impressed with this place. Â I came here a couple of days ago on the recommendation of my cousins and got the chicken and noodles. Â They weren't what I was expecting--thin noodles--but tasted homemade--thick noodles that are almost in a dumpling category, not noodle. Â The fresh green beans were perfect, Â broccoli was very good, and the custard pie was really good--the filling was wonderful but the crust had gotten a little soggy. Â I still loved it. Â I definitely wanted to come back and try more. Â Their displays of food are very colorful and appealing.
So today I went back for late lunch and tried the fish--melt in your mouth delicious, fresh green beans still good, mac and cheese good, strawberry pie great. Â Oh, and their prices are very reasonable. Â If you get the value plate it's about $5.50 for a main course and two sides. Â It is cafeteria style but that's fine with me as long as the food is good. Â I wish we had one or more of these in San Diego!
