The Lemon Drop onion burgers haunt me constantly...always thinking of them every time I try an imposter. Â
This 50's holdover in a formerly blue-collar town (RIP American Auto industry) has the very best onion burgers I've ever had. Â The grilled onions inside the patty leak out and provide so much taste to the burger. Â It is so good. Â The burgers are generous and well flavored.
The operator insists on cooking the burgers himself so each one is perfect. Â
A must-try are the Hoosier-style Tenderloins - perfectly had with horseradish if available. Â
The building is a small cinder-block structure on a funny intersection, parking is easy but awkward. Â The tables are few but they also serve at a bar. Â Seating for few, but so worth it!!!
Call ahead if you're coming on a weekend, near a holiday, or over the winter as the operator leaves and shuts down for vacation frequently. Â
Kids will love the train going around the 'drop. Â
Lemon Drop - I love you so...
I've been coming here as long as I can remember with my family, and I can easily say it is the best place for burgers in central Indiana. There may not be much else in Anderson any more (besides the empty Wigwam, Gene's, and Art's Pizza), but The Lemon Drop makes the trip worth it. The menu is nearly as small as the diner itself, and everything is worth a try, but my favorite thing has to be the onionburger. Don't bother with Steak n' Shake, and make the trip here instead!
