Art's is one of those great hometown places that I always try to visit when I come home. Â They are famous around town for their Italian roastbeef sandwiches, but I actually have not ever had one... and yes, my family members gasp and try to disown me when they find this out. Â I just can't ever bring myself to NOT eat the pizza when I'm there. Â They cut their pizza into rectangular strips... one cut down the middle in one direction, then numerous cuts in the other direction... not the typical triangular wedge slices. Â
We have done take-out and eaten at the restaurant and had a positive experience each time. Â We once did the lunch buffet... if none of the three pizzas on the cart strike your fancy, you can request a pizza to be made... and they also had spaghetti and a dessert pizza out. Â I tried their BBQ Chicken Pizza on my most recent visit and I gotta say... I think I found my new favorite thing! Â Dee-lish! Â And since this is one of my all-time favorite foods, I'm kinda hard to please when it comes to my BBQ chicken pizzas! Â Always a good amount of cheese, sauce, and toppings... and I love their crust (e.g., pizzas are hand-tossed, not pan).
All in all, this is a great locally-owned restaurant with a casual vibe. Â A great place to go with a group of people.
I've only ever eaten one thing here: the Italian roast beef sandwich. It is the most delicious sandwich in the state of Indiana. They slow roast the beef in a tomato based sauce, then serve it with melted cheese and peppers. It is a messy sandwich, but who cares when there's a party in your mouth. I live in Indy and it is well worth the drive to Anderson!
