There's not much wrong with this Irish style pub in the rejuvenated Midtown section of Oklahoma City. Â The first two floors offer smoke free seating with plenty of tables, booths, and bar seating, with dart boards in the back of the second floor. Â The third floor has its own full bar and is a smoking floor with cigars welcome.
Review Source:This is my favorite place to drink beer. Great selection. Great pub food as well. The staff know their beer and will offer recommendations. My wife says the "charburger" is her favorite. I've tried several items on the menu and have never been disappointed.
McNellie's is also family friendly. We've gone for lunch on the weekends and it's nice and laid back.
My friends and I occasionally meet here for a couple of hours to have a couple of beers and talk. Â It's a nice little pub, with 3 levels so you can choose if you want the bar atmosphere or more of a restaurant feel. Â The menu has some good stuff on it, but it is a little pricy for the quality. Â I don't come here for the food, though.
McNellie's features a large beer menu that includes several taster flights (about 5 different beers in 3 oz. taster glasses). Â Also, McNellie's has a few scotch taster flights you can choose if you like scotch. Â
I like the beer choices, but McNellie's is a little more expensive than I would like. Â That's the only real thing that keeps me from coming here more often. Â It can also be a pain to park and find a table sometimes, as it can get crowded.
McNellies is one of the best places in town to grab a burger! HUGE beer selection. Their menu has a lot on it, but you can't beat their burgers. Especially on Wednesdays, when you can get one of their big , juicy burgers for just $5! For beer and burgers alone, that place is packed on Wednesday nights. It's a nice spot to hangout with friends and have a bite to eat. Great atmosphere and great food, what else could you want?
Review Source:Nice bar, lots of beer, parking.
Barmaids can talk beer and know what is what. They have hand drawn ale on Friday. They have many beer choices, happy face. The place is all wooden and classy, no neon Buttwiper signs here. The food looked good, but I ate already. The menu had what I would call Irish, but well rounded, inspired dishes.
Better beer selection than Tapwerks? Who cares, you can actually park here. Also the place is void of amateurs. Bring a date, not a funnel.
McNellie's has a huge beer selection. There you go. Review complete. Go check it out...
They also have pretty darn good food. The sweet potato fries are fantastic and their burgers are well above average. Pub food done the right way. Mcnellie's also has some pretty specials going on certain nights. I know they have Pint Night on Thursdays where they let you keep the glass. Not a bad deal.
A couple of friends and I headed over here from the H&8th Night Market because the beer line there was absurd.
It was pretty crowded when we got there, but we were able to find seats at a bar that faced the window to the street.
They have a huge selection of beer and they also carry liquor but I'm not sure if there is a mixed drink menu. But it's safe to ask for a certain cocktail you enjoy and they'll likely have it. I ordered a Snakebite which is a mixed beer -Harp and Cider. I prefer pure cider after tasting this, but it was a good drink. I asked (as I always do at a bar/pub) if they had the Jack and Pickleback shot available and since they do serve food they had some pickle juice. I opted for Jameson instead of Jack because I never had it. NOPE. Never again. Jameson made my insides feel frowny. But I love pickle juice, so the chase made it all better.
I enjoy the atmosphere of the place. There's a picture of the pope on the wall JUDGING YOU AND YOUR CONSUMPTION SINS. It kind of gave it an Irish feel I guess. Who doesn't enjoy some old fashioned Catholic guilt while they drink and eat? There are three stories to the building. The bottom is the bar, second is a dining area, and the third is for smoking if I recall.
The service was so-so even though they were rather busy.It took longer than I'd have liked to get the tab, but the servers and bartenders were very friendly.
I'm reserving a fourth star for a second trip to try the food and get another gauge for the service. It's worth a visit!
This was a nice place to hang out and chat with friends. There were 3 different levels but each floor had limited space. There weren't a whole lot of tables and it was very crowded. There wasn't a hostess so we were on our own to walk around and look for a table. After 11pm, only appetizers were served. The menu wasn't that impressive - just your typical bar food.
I liked the midtown location. This bar was near a lot of other restaurants and only a few minutes from downtown. Parking can be hard to find in that neighborhood. I just parked across the street at Brown's Bakery. There were also street parking if you're good at parallel parking.
McNellie's has an extensive beer menu and they're listed by countries. Prices are not too high and there's something for everyone. My friends and I went on a search for some pool tables and ended up on the third floor. It was really smokey and dark up there. But no pool tables or dart boards in sight :(
You wanna Go where everybody knows your name? Try McNellie's. They'll set you up with your personal mug and keep it for you when you return. Afraid you'll move to Tulsa and maybe miss out on these privileges? They have got that taken care of too. They will transfer your mug privileges. If you like beer/alcohol they got you covered. The food is also pretty good for bar food and they have good specials like burger Wednesdays. Parking may be a little tricky, but it tends to be available on the street.
Review Source:I enjoyed this bar. The food looked really good, but nothing unique or outstanding on the menu. The beer selection is HUGE. Wasn't impressed with what I ordered, but it was a good place to hang out with friends and chat. We watched the game and the atmosphere was good for conversation. I would return if someone else wanted to, but would try another bar in the area.
Review Source:I very much enjoy having a pub within walking or biking distance. It's a great place to gather with friends for a burger.
The Good: The food is really good, the staff is pretty accommodating and their selection of beverages is by far the widest I've seen in the city. They have a great Balsamic Chicken Sandwich. It's a good place to grab a drink, whether you're a beer aficionado or a tea totaler.
The Bad: They seem to have a VERY high turnover rate of waitstaff, which means you never really get to know any of the staff. It also means that the staff can't make many recommendations off the menu. The only other downside is that the place is loud. It's, at times, VERY loud. I think it has a lot to do with the design of the place.
All in all, McNellie's is a good place to gather with friends from the neighborhood!
McNellie's is designed to be like a "Irish pub" and in terms of a social gathering place... I suppose it was... when I went with some friends I was surprised to see it was PACKED to the gills with people (me and my friends in fact had to wait outside for a table)
But to my surprise... it didn't have some key things I would expect for a bar/pub... sports tv's... pool tables.... and for a Irish pub... no dart boards... all missing :(. Now I will admit... I have only been to this place once, and to be fair and honest... I did not venture far from my group, so I didn't get to fully inspect the area, but from what I could see with a general visual inspection, I could find none of these things in sight. The other weird thing... the acoustics in the place was horrible, our group had a hard time hearing each other at all, we were in a corner so I could hear that a lot of the lower frequency sounds were collecting there and drowning out a lot of voices, it was in part due to the concrete the building is made out of
Now the good news... GOOD selection of beers, I was able to find my favorite beers at this place (which is not your normal domestic beers) and on Weds they have a burger combo deal for $3.50 I believe it was, it was MEGA cheap and you get a HUGE burger
To put it short... if I wanted a burger and a beer, I would head back to McNellie's... but as a Irish Pub... I found it lacking
This place is great. They have a fantastic beer menu, and the food is really good. McNellie's has some of the best burgers I've ever had. They do a great special on wednesdays, though the $3 burger means you have to show up early.
They do great food, and put on some community events too (pub run), Â and so they're a great place to have in OkC.
I love hamburgers. Probably more than I should. McNellie's is seriously the best of the best. But what's better than a great burger? Going on a Wednesday and getting that great burger and a side of fries for $3. Its a college student's dream.
Of course, on a Wednesday its going to be really crowded so be prepared to wait as long as 30 minutes for a table, depend on what time of the night you go. And definitely don't plan on eating quick and getting out of there. It will take a while to get your food.
But its a great atmosphere and so fun with a group of friends! If you haven't tried McNellie's, what are you waiting for?!?!?!
I had a friend in town visiting near Midtown and thought it was a perfect excuse to try McNellie's. I was greeted quickly when I sat at the bar to wait for my friend and offered a beer menu which was way overwhelming for me. I ordered a Stella. When my friend arrived he too was way overwhelmed with the beer menu and saw they had PBR and ordered that. They don't give just any beer a blue ribbon! The service was fantastic, our cold beers never empty. We each ordered food. I ordered fish and chips and he ordered a chicken quesadilla. He said his quesadilla was "superb". The fish and chips was so-so. I wasn't diggin' it too much but I ate a bit of it. It was warm in the bar but the beer was cold. Maybe I was just hot looking at my friend, but regardless, the beer was cold.
Review Source:I really like this place for both lunch and dinner, but especially for drinks. Â They have an amazing beer list and quite a few fantastic varieties of Scotch to wet your whistle. Â I love their fries, and I'm partial to the burgers and chicken strips.
It's located in midtown, so it's not too far from a lot of places in OKC. Â Sometimes it can be a little tricky trying get a parking spot, but you can usually find a decent spot to park. Â If not you can always park up by Brown's or along the street. Â I usually just parallel park on Classen, where you can often find a decent spot.
The pub is made up of three stories; the bottom floor is the bar, second floor the main eating area, and the third is a smoking room. Â I prefer the bar, it's got a lot of seating and there are still quite a few tables around it. Â From there you can take in all of the beautiful taps and figure out what type of beer you fancy next! Â If you can't decide, the waitstaff and bartenders are very helpful and will gladly point you in a delicious direction. Â Monday is pint night, where you get to drink the beer, keep the glass, and hopefully try something new! Â If you can't tell this is definitely one of my favorite Pub's in OKC, so stop on by and give it a try!
The Food: DELICIOUS and high quality. My black bean burger was top notch and very healthy, with good and simple ingredients, and you can get tabouli as your healthy side. I would so get this entree again. Being the mostly vegan I am, I still could not help but take a bite of my friend's chicken fingers and pub fries. I thought the chicken was piping hot and lightly crusted. Still indulgent (yes) but cooked to perfection and fresh and natural. The fries were sliced thick and not overcooked.
I was so pleased, being the food snob I am.
The Decor: We went on a Thursday afternoon, and it was not very crowded. They have a ton of space and a good, diverse group of people. Deep, rich wood. Big windows, but still warm and cozy like a good pub should be.
A WINNER!
I've been to this place one time, while taking a friend out for his bachelor party. Â We came for beer and drinks and that's exactly what we got. Â Having been to the Abner in Norman several times, I had a good idea of what to expect. Â An enormous beer selection. Â That's exactly what we got and more. Â
So you might ask, they have lots of beer so what? Â Well if you don't like beer don't go, or at least don't go alone. Â The waitress was actually very well versed in the various options they offered and proved to be quite helpful. Â It's easy to be overwhelmed by a menu that looks like it belongs at a family style restaurant, but only has beer in it. Â
The place is oddly located in a roundabout so just find parking where you can. Â When you walk in it may appear crowded, but there are several levels. Â We had no problem finding room for 12 guys upstairs at 8 or 9 on a Saturday.
All in all, great place to expand your beer horizons and try something a bit more interesting than your average Oklahoma beer. Â (yes I said 'beer' way too many times in this review)
Disclaimer: Â I like and appreciate beer a lot.
McNellie's is a great Irish Pub in Oklahoma City. Â When they opened up, I was like "FINALLY!" Â Truth be told, in the pantheon of Irish-American Gastro Pubs McNellies isn't king. Â However it is an excellent find in OKC. Â The food is good, the staff are friendly and prompt, and they have a large bar. Â It is a great place to meet with friends, exactly what a Public House should be. Â Wednesday's $3 Burger Night should not be missed if you're looking for a good night out on a budget (or if you're looking for an excuse to add an additional night out).
Review Source:As a bar, this place gets 4 stars. Â As a bar that serves bar food, this place gets 4 stars. Â I went for the first time last night with my husband and we had a great time, and good bar food. Â
We sat on the second floor on the balcony over looking the bar. Â I knew there was more to this place than that seating area, but didn't find out the second floor wrapped around the corner until well into our visit. Â DON'T let them seat you over the bar when you could go around the corner to a slightly quieter area with WINDOWS. As it was, they tried seating us at this horrible table, bad location, and we refused because we were the only ones on the second floor at 6:00pm. Â
We ordered drinks (McSorely's? Irish Black lager for me and Yellow Jacket for DH) and the fried pickle appetizer, for $5.50, they weren't bad. Â Not excessively greasy. Â Then we drank another round (Raspberry and Cream for me (floral) and a British Isles flight for DH).
Then we ordered another round (Snakebite for me and some German Jubiliant thing for DH) and dinner.
I ordered the steak frites. Â I almost hate to give this review and ruin a good thing. Â It was $13.50 for a 10oz New York Strip steak cooked to medium rare perfection served with beer battered fries. Â YUM. Â Yum. Â Just, yum. Â If this were a steak house, I'd be a little disappointed at the "quality" of the steak, but it is a bar and it was so good I damn near ate the entire thing. I will order that again. DH ordered the cottage pie. Â It was good, but unimpressive. Â For $10 he won't order it again, I seriously do a better version at home. Â It could be made fabulous if they added beer to the "sauce" before they cooked it. But, for bar food, it was good.
The drinks, food and 3 hours of date night came up to $70 and we left a $13 tip. Â We won't be back for a while at that price, but we will be back.
I stopped here while visiting a friend in OKC. The dinner rush was just winding down and the social pub atmosphere was at it's peak. Seating includes a large bar with lots of seats and tables around the perimeter of the window lined pub. There is also additional seating upstairs where the atmosphere is a little lighter on traffic.
Classic public house atmosphere. Friendly and efficient staff, great brew selection and all the necessities on the menu. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to McNellie's. The volume was conversational but lively. We will happily return on our next Oklahoma trip.
Yes, I do agree with the previous review, McNellie's is a great place for beer and food, I do not agree that it is better than Irma's. Â
If you want to have great beer with good food - McNellie's is your place.
Great food with a much smaller beer selection - Irma's wins hands down.
I'm a regular at both locations.
Great beer selection! and the food is awesome! It is a great place to go on "Pint Night" or "Burger Night"!
The only thing I don't recommend is to go on St. Patty's Day. They advertise themselves as an Irish pub but on the biggest Irish holiday of the year you will only find techno music and green beer. SHAME ON YOU MCNELIE'S. Any other day it's a place that reminds me of authentic pubs on the east coast I have been to.
McNellie'ss (noun) Mc-NELL-eez
def: local pub with something for everyone
Ever since this little gem went into the historic Plaza Court building, folks from all over OKC have been heading into the heart of midtown for three stories of food, drinks, and lots of fun.
The first floor features a great bar, open seating, and an impressive view of the city's growing skyline. Check in with the hostess to sit on the second floor, where you'll also find darts and a few larger rooms for big groups. Go online a few days before to reserve the Red Room for groups of 20 or more. The third floor is an open seating smoking section with huge windows looking out from midtown towards downtown. But the real story at McNellie's is the beers-- 350 beers from all over the world, some on tap, some bottled, including Oklahoma and regional favorites. Add at least two great specials per month and a host of special events designed to introduce new beers to the community and provide a little bit of education about the world of beer.
Some cool person also put together a great menu with well-thought out pub fare, good soups and salads, yummy appetizers and good lunch specials. Wednesday night is $3 Burger Night. Expect long waits and cheap checks. I'd actually give McNellie's five stars for more dependable food quality. Sometimes the burgers are overcooked, sometimes the food comes out cold. Sometimes your bratwurst arrives with no spicy mustard, and by the time you notice it, your busy server is nowhere to be found. A good exporter could do wonders to make sure the food experience lives up to the beer happiness.

Bonus points for being the first OKC concept by Tulsa restaurantrepreneur
Elliot Nelson, and for serving as the anchor that saved an important local landmark. Also, the staff people here know their beers, all 350 of them, which is no small feat. Their T-shirts say "Probably OKC's Best Pub" and I tend to agree.
I come for the sweet potato fries with honey mustard sauce and I stay for the excellent selection of beers. Â McNellie's has turned into "that place we go when we're done with whatever we're doing" to collect thoughts and have one last drink (or two) before calling it a night and heading home. Â It's an excellent place to call "pre-home".
Review Source:Yeaaaahhhh....this place is pretty cool. Note this is only a review of the bar, as I had nothing to eat.
There are oh so many beer choices, both in bottle and tap. They are broken down on the menu by country...that's great, but I would prefer they be broken down by type (IPA, American wheat, Hefe, pale, etc.). I had two vastly different beers (and one bottle versus one draft), and they both tasted delicious and as fresh as you could expect.
The bartender seemed incredibly friendly, but wasn't as knowledgeable as, say, a Flying Saucer bartender (yeah, I know, OKC doesn't have one...I wish, though!). Whoever calls this place "divey" must be a snob.
I'll definitely be back when I need a good beer fix!
Seating upstairs, and a bar downstairs, this place is great! The staff is wonderful and comes with a great atmosphere.
Better than Irma's next door, this place is like a tasty/cheaper version of Cheesecake factory.
They have awesome food. The chicken tenders are some of the best I have ever had!
I love this place. Â there is an upstairs and downstairs seating. Â Downstairs is great if you like the bar setting. Â There are tvs all over so each seat has a great seat. Â Upstairs is more the regular seating but still part of the show. Â This place is great for casual lunch or dinner and for a game day hang out with the buddies. Â
The food is wonderful. Â I had a grilled cheese that was absolutely yummy. Â Their sweet potato fries are great with their own seasoning. Â Their beer list is extensive and the waiters/tresses are well educated in their beers. Â I now have a new favorite because of this place. Â The Fischer Amber is a lovely little drink. Â Great flavor without a strong bitterness.
McNellie's is one of the best pubs downtown. Definitely come here on Wed's for $3 burger night, but expect a looong wait for a table, especially if you have a large group. Unless you don't mind just standing around on the ground floor around the bar, which can get pretty crowded.
The burgers are pretty decent and includes fries (sweet potato or regular). I love their selection of beer on tap! Service can be slow, but the atmosphere is always energetic and fun.
I really like this place because they don't waste tap space with crappy domestics like Bud & Coors. They have a wonderful selection of beer and a great scotch list.
You would think that a bar that has 3 stories would be fairly large, unfortunately this place isn't that big. The largest bar is on the 3rd floor (smoking level) and this place gets really busy on weekends. I usually go in the late afternoon on Sundays, not very busy and good for groups of people.
Bar staff is friendly and helpful if you're trying to find something new to try.
Monday evenings are great, they have a special beer every Monday and the beer comes in it's native glass, which you get to keep (one per person). So if you are in need of more glassware come here on Monday, but watch out, supply is limited and they run out quickly.
Food isn't that great, but is bar food ever really great?
My recently turned 21 sister was visiting from Los Angeles, so naturally we headed to McNellies. Â She wasn't sure if it was full bar or just beer, and asked the waitress if she had any Jack Daniels to which she received a hearty "Hell Yeah!" Â Haha.
We went on a Friday night and it was busy, but not overcrowded. Â It was still comfortable and we could still just barely converse over the crowd. Â
Great beer selection, and the food is decent too. Â I like the sweet potato fries. Â If you've never had Fried Pickles, this is good place in OKC to give them a try. Â They sound weird, but they're strangely delicious.
McNellies Oklahoma City is a spot in the Mid-Town renaissance area, on the south part of the Plaza Court near Ermas.
Nice spot with plenty of beers to choose from. Here is a novelty: they don't run out all the time like some other place I've been to in Bricktown that likes to brag about their beer selection.
Food is pub fare, nothing to write home about, at least I didn't think so. What I came looking for was a place that I get an obscure Belgium Wit and follow it up with PBR. Is that too much to ask for? I guess in Oklahoma City it can be a tall order but this place delivers.
Here I am, sick of reading all these Californians bash all of our pub's / restaurants, comparing each place to their favorite place back home to get a tempeh burger with organic kale relish and I find myself dogging our state too. Apologies but as a beer snob this state can frustrate you.
Back on task... It can get pretty busy the times I have gone, not that I mind crowds though. If you get a spot upstairs next to the rail there is good people watching of the folks sitting at the bar below. I'm weird like that. Why not 5 stars? Where is my tempeh burger on the menu?
