I've always liked Mellow Mushroom back in Florida, so happy to find it in Texas. Great location and cozy bar area. Love the cider they offer, although last time I was there there wasn't enough cider to satisfy me (most were out!). Definitely would go back for some yummy pizza and more cider!

Went to this in Austin and was great and this one is no way in comparison to that. Ordered a full hoogie and got a half one which was different one. The waitress gave the full one that we ordered and told us she is not going to charge for it. it was added in the bill though. When asked why it was, she was like, do you want that out? She modified the bill and gave it back with a stern face and made us wait for more than ten min to collect the bill back. We had to call someone to get it. Very poor service and food is just not worth the money. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I was never too interested in trying Mellow Mushroom since it's a chain and I figured it would just be kind of meh. They do have alot of gluten free option which is neat but I ended up eating here without my husband so I can't speak to those. But what I can speak to is how surprisingly tasty the pizza was! Lots of unique toppings and the crust was really good.  Chewy and garlicy with a large "pizza handle."  I got a personal Red Skin Potato pie with slices of potato (because the crust just wasn't carby enough for me) and huge bacon chunks and a creamy drizzle of spicy ranch. Very fatty-style but very delicious. Definitely had to take some to go. The service was nice and the location is very groovy looking (I think "groovy" is exactly what they're going for.)  I believe the overall highlight was that there was a changing table in the men's room (I was there with my SIL, her husband, and their baby)...very progressive!

Cool restaurant decor (in spite of the fast food lighting that downgraded the mood of the psycodelic vibe). All staff was very acoomodating and friendly and our food was very good. We sat in front of the kitchen and the kids where entretained by the cooks streching, fliping and tossing the pizza dough in the air, they thought that was awesome.

To start we ordered the baked wings, when I saw "baked" I was in. They were spectacular! Very well seasoned with a spicy but not hot rub, so good they really did not need the bufallo sauce (that came on the side) They where super tender and juicy. Loved them.
Then we split a steak and peppers calzone. Oh my, the crust, THE CRUST! it was slightly crusty and then chewy on the inside, extraordinay flavor of the crust itself and the filling was great too, fresh still crisp veggies and really good steak. It came with a side of marinara wich was great too, very well rounded not to sweet. Big enough to be shared. Awesome.
Kids splited a cheese pizza and they loved it, even my 10 year old said he could taste the difference of how fresh it was compared to other pizza chains.
Our server was super nice and kept checking on us constantly, everything we asked for she brought it right away. Since they splited a pizza instead of ordering from the kids menu, he didn't charge us for their drinks, that was very nice.
And since they have a Frisco location we now have a place to go that has great wings and pizza in a super fun, kid friendly reataurant!

I love Mellow Mushroom. I had not dined at this location previously. I was in the area for lunch and decided to stop in. I normally go to the location by TCU. The pizza was very good but I think I still prefer the pizza at the Fort Worth location. Don't get me wrong, the pizza wasn't bad, it just wasn't spectacular like it is at the Fort Worth location. Service was wonderful and my server was friendly and took very good care of me.

Mellow Mushroom gets serious ambiance and energy points; they really go all the way on the whole psychedelic/super-hippie/mushrooms/tribute to Mary-Jane theme... maybe even a bit overboard. But I appreciate all the details. There are kaleidoscopic paintings on the walls; funky squares on the floor filled with multicolored goo that squish out in erratic patterns beneath your feet; cool blue neon lights shining out from the bar; and a colossal menu of items with punny or themed names (for example, "Half-Baked Brownies" - hardy har).

While I'm a fan of the theme, the music, the colors, and the creative menu - I think it's all a bit overwhelming. There are so many options on the menu that it's a somewhat messy read, unless you're gluten-free of course. And if you have to order gluten-free, be prepared to spend at least $20 on your pie. You can get plain cheese for $15, but added toppings are over $1 each. I hate to complain, but that's a lot of money - even for a GF pizza. The crust is clearly defrosted (mushy with a hint of freezer burn), and my extra toppings were quite scarce.

I cannot comment on any other menu items, but I can tell you that nothing is cheap! I can also tell you that the service I had here was excellent, and they possess a pretty stellar bar with an excellent array of beer and cutesy, original cocktails. If I come back, I'll just head to the bar!

Great selection of pizzas to choose from fairly good but a little on the pricey side for pizza in my opinion. Service was pretty good for being there on a busy night.

The food was fine but the atmosphere sucked.  I was so excited about having something in Arlington like the original in Savannah, GA.  Unfortunately, the only thing that remained the same was the name.  Instead, what we have in Arlington is a sports bar with far too many flat screen TVs plastered on every wall and some generic psychedelic decor that seemed like an afterthought.  I was very disappointed and won't go back.  This was NOT Mellow Mushroom.

Slow, slow, poorly trained service, greasy overpriced pizza, gritty soup , filthy bathroom.   I simply don't have an hour and a half to wait for crappy food served by an aloof waitress who rarely offers a drink refill.   Won't go back.  There are lots of better places to eat around there.

This was my first visit to the Mellow Mushroom and I was very pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere!

My friend and I started with the Spinach Artichoke dip, with the spinach, artichoke and cheese mixed just right and hot on the table. I had one of the many beers available on tap from the bar, the Rahr Ugly Pug being one of my local favorites. We ordered a pizza that we had split between two of the different specialty pizzas available; Kosmic Karma and the Mega-Veggie. This worked out great and the pizza came out just right, hot and tasty!

This decor for this pizza house if different than most others and has a comfortable laid back feel to it; psychedelic colors and lighting coupled with lots of booth seating in an open floor. The bar is off to the side and is where we sat, plenty of tv's there and in the restaurant.

The service was fine during our experience. We did get in before the usual dinner time rush. The waitress was able to explain what we were getting and how it could be split. Drink refills did not take long. No complaints.

All in all I really really liked this place and enjoyed eating there where it is situated in Arlington near the college campus. Thumbs up!

The only place in Arlington to get a vegan pizza with cheeze! A little pricier than most pizza places, but definitely worth it. They also have great deals in the bar, including $2 wells and margaritas on Tuesdays and my husband's favorite, $2 local drafts on Sundays.

I've eaten at the Mellow Mushroom several times, and I've never been able to think of it more than just a place to hang out and get a quick snack while rolling the dice to see if the food is actually good.  My last visit there is what is prompting me to finally write my review of the place, and it's not exactly good.

For starters, the restaurant closes at 10PM on Saturdays.  Yes, you read that right.  And don't expect to be getting anything close to fast service if you show up near closing time like I did this past Saturday evening.  Despite there only being a few other occupied tables, the kitchen was extremely slow in preparing our meals... instead, they were actively cleaning up the kitchen and closing everything down while we waited.  As a result, some of the food served was not even edible.  I had ordered a greek salad and the tomato bisque soup.  Well, it took about 45 minutes for the soup to come out, and when it did, it looked like someone opened up a can of tomato paste and dumped it into the bowl.  And it was lukewarm.  Basically, it wasn't soup.  The salad had a lot of brown pieces of lettuce in it too.  Can I complain about these things considering my party showed up at 9:55PM?  Yes, I can.. because the manager could have easily told us that they weren't seating or serving anyone else, and we would have happily gone somewhere else.  Can I complain about the place because it's primarily a pizza place and their salad and soup sucked?  Yes, I can.  And I did.  I will never suggest this place, and if anyone else suggests it, I'll recommend we go elsewhere.

As for the pizza, I've only tried a couple of different types, and they were good.. but nothing good enough to write my friends in New York about.  I'd say on the same level as you would get at BJs Brewhouse (which by the way is open until midnight).  My review is based on the overall experience though, not just the food.

Hubby and I met two friends for dinner tonight and we were both very underwhelmed.  Service by Julian was great - very attentive, fast drink refills and an overall friendly personality.

I got the small tossed salad ($3.60) that had a lettuce mix, 2 tomato slices and a few sliced mushrooms with a pretty low-quality bottled 1000 island dressing.  Would NOT order this again.

Hubby got the Magic Mushroom Soup ($4.25) which gritty with a flavor more reminiscent of dirt not mushrooms.  Described as wine and herb broth, it looked creamy, however, it completely lacked a creamy mouth-feel.  The mushrooms were sparse and soggy and it just didn't hold up well.

For an entree, I ordered the regular pizza, with extra cheese and extra sauce - cut in squares.  (I know, it's an Ohio thing, I think).  Pizza came out hot, looked great but wasn't cut in squares.  This is NOT a deal breaker, and there was plenty of sauce and extra cheese, but the whole thing was just very eh, not spectacular.  Honestly, I would say Domino's or Papa John's would do just as well on the scorecard as this place, for 1/2 the price.  The crust was supposed to be buttered and dusted with Parmesan cheese; however, it tasted like that cheap cheese you get at the store - you know, the ground up Parmesan in the pizza crust section.  Meh!  Large pizza (so we could have leftovers, thinking it would be worth it) was $18.65.

Hubby ordered a duo - first was the 1/2 of the Righteous Portobello  Ruben, which was light on the sauerkraut, didn't have much of the normal Reuben flavor, but otherwise, it was ok - just nothing special and nothing really filling!  It had all the listed ingredients, but a very small amount of each.  ($6.50 for blah, not a good value!)

He also ordered a small Shitake Pizza, with extra cheese ($14.34) which again had all of the listed ingredients; however, they didn't work well together, didn't pack a punch and would not be worth ordering again.

I am a pizza FREAK and really REALLY wanted to like/love this place; but alas, it is not to be today.  Honestly, not sure I'd return again, except on Tuesdays they have Trivia Tuesdays, which I think would be fun!  Perhaps come for the diet coke, which was the only spot-on star of our dinner!

As a side note, I got home and several hours later, reheated a piece of the cheese pizza in the toaster oven and it heated up nicely - very melty.  Again, same blah flavor though...perhaps I need to douse it in some hot sauce or something, eh?

This is the second time I've been here, both times the service was slow and spotty. This time the waitress forgot my friends salad, she told me the tempeh was marinated in BBQ, it was actually marinated in vinaigrette?! I got the on my pizza and it looked like brown chunky ooze on my pizza. Not appetizing. To top it off, the kids meal was $5.50 and was supposed to come with drink. Instead I was charged $2.50 for a drink. Disappointing overall.

Mellow Mushroom is my favorite national pizza chain, and has become one of my top 3 go-to pizza places in the DFW Metroplex.

(That top 3 list does not include Neapolitan Style Pizza, as I don't think it's really fair to compare Mellow Mushroom to Cane Rosso.  They're totally different styles, and each has their place.  The other two are Picasso's and LA Gourmet Pizza on McKinney.)

Mellow Mushroom is a chain founded in Midtown Atlanta and has expanded out to Dallas.  I have only been to the Frisco and Arlington, TX locations for Mellow Mushroom as of this writing.  I have consistently good experiences at their locations.  Breaking it down:

Atmosphere:  The restaurant chain seems to follow a psychedelic theme, which aims well at college students.  (I believe their first Texas locations were in the Austin / San Marcos area.)  I think of it as kind of a "free birds" of Pizza but with more colors and a bit classier and with a full bar.  It's a cool concept, though the restaurant can get super loud when it's crowded.

Service:  The service is pretty good, though I've waited very, very long for a pizza before.  One time when I went, I ordered a pizza and the waitress came out and apologized because the pizza had a hole in it when it came out of the oven.  Rather than serving it, they made us a new one.  It's good that they focus on providing a consistent product.

On atmosphere and service alone, I'd probably give the restaurant 2 or 3 stars.

Food:  The food is awesome, and gains the establishment a solid 5 stars.  The food keeps me coming back regularly.  Here's my thoughts on the menu:

    Appetizers:

Garlic Cheese Bread - Tasty and good.  But I'd really recommend...

Parmesan Pretzels - These are consistently awesome.  They make these pretzels with the same dough they make their pizzas with.  (Their "Mellow" dough has a bit of molasses in it, which sounds odd but tastes AMAZING.)  I'd highly recommend this with the Turbodog Cheese dip available at a slight up-charge.  It's worth every penny.  Try to save a little bit of sauce for your meal.

    Pizzas:

(I'd go with the specialty pizzas if I were you.)

House Special:  Their version of "supreme."  (My wife never lets me get black olives.  :-( )  Awesome.

Mighty Meaty:  Their version of "meat lover's."  This is probably my favorite pizza of the bunch.

I first want to try the philosopher's pie, and the red skin potato pie (basically a baked potato on a pizza.)  I'll probably come back here and update when I do.

One last thing - Mellow Mushroom is actually a decent place to go if you want to count calories.  Sure, since it's pizza, in general it's kind of a "splurge" place for a diet, but on their website, they have calorie counts for all of their dishes, including a per-slice breakout of all of their signature pizzas.

Anyhow, Mellow Mushroom is absolutely worth it.  They have a loyal customer in me.

Alright, I guess I'll finally get around to reviewing Mellow Mushroom.  Yelp has been bugging me about it enough.

I'll start by saying that I like it very much.  I've been twice now and both times, the service was exceptional.  The servers were really nice and answered all my questions knowledgeably (what a weird looking word) without having to run back into the kitchen.  Not that I was asking dumb questions, but I've had some pretty clueless servers in my day.  Even the little things - like water being refilled, being upsold on appetizers, etc. - were great.  The last time I went, the dude was so amazingly, easily, effortlessly charismatic that I had to do the online survey right there on my phone.  His hair was so beautiful.

Of course, the pizza is also pretty delicious.  Their crust is a little toothsome for my tastes, but I dig the hell outta their toppings.  The potato pizza blows my mind every time.  All the textures, the chives, the sour cream drizzle, the BACON, oh jeez.  And I don't tend to like pizzas without meat on them because meat = satisfaction, but their mushroom pizza is superb.  They have some other pizza I really like with some tomatoes and other crap.  Can't be bothered to look it up.  I didn't like their BBQ pizza very much, but I have high BBQ pizza standards, so screw you.

It can be just a little bit pricey, but you can split a pie with different toppings so long as there's the same sauce.  Ambiance is contrived funk, but whatever.  Pizza.

My first time visiting this restaurant was not a good one. I'll start with the bad first:

    BAD:
The bread for our spinach/artichoke dip was overcooked and could have been used as salad croutons. VERY dry.

Our pizza took 25-30 minutes to get to our table, and the crust/bottom was completely burnt.  We sent it back.

One of the people at my table got up to go to the bar to get a beer, but no one was manning the bar. Very frustrating.

The supervisor/manager on duty assured us our next pizza would only take 10 minutes to get to our table (we were ready to leave at this point after two errors and almost an hour later). We again sat for an additional 25 minutes. When we got up to leave our pizza still hadn't made it to our table.

    Now for the good...

    GOOD:
Sarah, our waitress, was wonderful! Very professional, friendly and apologetic.  Thank you, Sarah.

The spinach/artichoke dip was tasty once our burnt bread was replaced and we were actually able to eat it.

Mellow Mushroom is a fun place. It's in an unassuming building, but I felt like I was walking into Pizza Planet from Toy Story the first time I visited. Really laid-back, and everyone seemed to be having a good time.

    Pizza:

Excellent. I liked their stuff quite a bit better than Fireside Pies, and I'd be up for going again in a heartbeat. Fun, inventive toppings which really get piled on, and a healthy variety of pizzas to choose from. Everything seemed super fresh. I went with a vegetarian, but I really didn't feel like I had to "settle" because of that: MM's vegetarian options were top-notch, and I might have ordered them even if I was eating with a table of strict carnivores.

    Service:

No complaints. We sat at the bar, and the servers kept me happy with good beers and hummus while we waited for our pizza.

I am a fan of the pizza. Not a big fan of the service.

The pizza is pretty good. They have the vegan cheese option which is cool since I am lactose intolerant. They have a ton of toppings, which is cool. The crust is not thick crust, but it is pretty thick. The crust feels like it is very wholesome, like a lot of it packed in per every square inch, so it is super dense. It would be cool if it was less dense.

The pizza has good flavor, they have vegan cheese, lots of toppings, and its pretty tasty so I have it 4 stars. The service can be kind of slow sometimes, especially if they seat you by the bar area.

So i was really excited to eat here based on the reviews and the decor. But then once we sat down it was one disappointment after another.  The wait staff was so slow it took ten minutes just to get drinks.  We ordered soup and salad to start and it took twenty minutes to bring that out.  The mushroom soup was really gritty and had an odd taste to it and when I asked my waiter about he said ... I don't know I don't eat that. Well ok then.
We had the Philosopher's Pizza which was so greasy that after eating a slice I couldn't eat it because it was disgusting.  There was literally grease dripping off every slice and pooling on the plate.  That is just unnecessary.   I understand that it had an olive oil base but that doesn't mean the pizza should be greasy.

    Just over all disappointed.

I'm not a huge fan of pizza but saw all the reviews on yelp I thought I'd give it a go.

I tried the Hawaiian Pizza which was delicious! Everything was fresh and tasty. It did take a little bit to get the pizza out but it didn't bother me since everything is made right there.

My new favorite pizza place. :)

The atmosphere here is pretty cool, unfortunately the bar service sucked the last 2 times I went. We walked in and there was a guy at the bar washing dishes or something, he looked up at us for a second then just went about his business. No greeting or "I'll be right with you". Eventually a girl came and helped us, but it was too long of a wait when there were maybe 3 other people at the bar. After our friends arrived we decided to take a table, from then on our service was great. If you go, I'd definitely recommend avoiding the bar!

Never heard of this place until a coworker mentioned that it a small chain. Went for dinner on a week night. There is a nice, wellstocked bar and the place has a calm feeling to it. Ordered the Maui Wowie and was impressed with the quality of the ingrediants. Also had the portabella mushroom appetizer and while it was good it seems a little expensive for what you get. It did take a while to get the pizza but was forewarned on that early on.
All in all a very decent pizza place

    Pizza is pretty good.

    Beer selection is very good.

Service is average... Be prepared to wait a while for your food.  The menu does tell you to prepare for a wait.  We had a problem with the first pizza (other than the wait), and the wait person and manager fixed it quickly.

    We'll give it another shot.

I had never been to, nor heard of, Mellow Mushroom before my mom suggested it for a late night dinner after a day of shopping.

I was excited to see such a fun and unique place in the middle of rehabilitated Arlington, Texas. After living in Dallas for several years, everything in Arlington has become a little bleh for me so it was fun to see something different.

The pizza menu is...unique. While we decided on which pizza to get, we chowed down on an order of the pretzels which were uh-mazing. So, while some combos look a little too adventurous for me, I dipped my toe into the big pond of weird and tried a few of their funky pies. My favorite BY FAR was the chicken Caesar salad pizza. HOLY COW. So freaking good.

We have always had super friendly servers but plan to hang out for a while. It's a chill atmosphere that is great place for families and college kids alike.

I love me some Mellow Mushroom. Love it so much, in fact, that we've become somewhat regulars. We've joined their beer club and look forward to tasting all 80 beers they offer. We also look forward to eating more and more of their delicious pretzels!! So freakin tasty. Of course, their pizza is great too. Can't go wrong with a great pizza and beer combo.

Sounds like I have a lot of eating and drinking in my future. Yum.

We absolutely LOVED the Mellow Mushroom!! We went on a Friday evening with another couple. The dining room was larger than I expected - this was a nice surprise. We sat in a booth which gave us a sense of privacy. It was loud inside making conversation a challenge, but we just talked louder.

If you are looking for your run of the mill take out pizza don't come to Mellow Mushroom. It is so much better than the chain pizzerias.

There is a very large menu selection, which for me made it difficult to decide. Besides the obvious pizza, there are sandwiches, and salads. There is also a large selection of beer.

We opted for a pizza that was only available at the Arlington location. It was a Muai Wowie Pizza. I may be wrong about the actual name of this pizza. It had jerk chicken, pineapple, and banana peppers on it with a pesto sauce.  The crust is medium thick and our server told us it has molasses in it. The pizza was delicious!! We all loved it. My husband got a jerk chicken sandwich. He raved about it all night!! It must have been good, he devoured it in no time.

I would give Mellow Mushroom 10 stars if I could.
We will most definitely return to Mellow Mushroom!!

I'll be honest: I never would've stumbled across the place if I weren't creeping on a Facebook friend and saw a check-in here. But I guess Facebook creeping has its benefits - I just discovered my favorite pizza joint in DFW!

FOOD: I've only tried two pizzas here: the "House Special" (basically a Combination or Supreme) and "The Caesar!" (chicken Caesar salad with roma tomatoes on a pizza). Both easily trump anything I've had at California Pizza Kitchen and BJ's. While I could write a whole paragraph about the delicious toppings alone, what deserves special attention is the crust.

I was never one of those kids who left a stack of uneaten pizza crusts on my plate, but I've had my fair share of moments where I've found myself scarfing down dry, tasteless crusts that I would've rather thrown away. But not at Mellow Mushroom. The crust here is hands-down the BEST crust I've ever had: it's golden brown, crispy, and delicious even without any dipping sauces like the take-out pizza chains use to get you to eat their crusts. Outstanding.

SERVICE: Excellent, especially for a restaurant that can get as crowded as this place does. All of the servers are young and laid back, which is to be expected from a pizza chain founded in a college town, but they're all extremely attentive and competent as well. I need to give a special shout-out to one of the servers there (whose name eludes me at the moment): I've only eaten here three times - with months between each visit - but the last time I was here, this guy recognized me immediately and even remembered what drinks and pizzas I ordered the time before that and offered additional suggestions. I was taken aback for a second, but it definitely made me feel like family there.

AMBIANCE: Playful psychedelia from the late 1960s and early 1970s: think hippies, lava lamps, flower power, neon, etc. It's tastefully done, though - not tacky. There's also this cool plastic-covered "ooze" floor near the entrance that's amusing for kids and drunk college students alike. It's fun and energetic, but never rowdy. Great for friends and families alike.

VERDICT: Even if you're not a pizza fan, you've got to try this place once. You'll be a convert for sure (or just chow down on their extensive list of salads or hoagies)!

This is my first time here  and I like it. This is a new pizza joint with a bunch of beers in downtown Arlington. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the pizza was very good. They have different type of pizza so you have to try something new or stick with pepperoni which what I do.
They have plenty of seating for big groups. That makes them good for happy hour. I will have to try the again one day to see if they still are worth a 4 star.

Finally got to try this place out! I took my friend from out of town here so that we could share the experience together =)

We started out with the spinach and artichoke dip and it was pretty good. Not the best I've had but it was decent. I like that it was served with bread rather than chips.

We also got 2 personal pizza's. She ordered the Magical Mystery Tour and I got the Mighty Meaty. The magical mystery tour had a pesto base with mushrooms, jalapeños, spinach and feta cheese. SO YUMMY! Definitely my favorite out of the two. The mighty meaty had bacon, pepperoni, sausage, ham and ground beef. It was good but very heavy.

Service was pretty fast and out waiter was friendly, but not very attentive. It's a pretty cool place with a nice ambiance, very relaxed and neat decor. I would be back again to try some different things on the menu.

First time at Mellow Mushroom last weekend....I don't mind the location, it's in the new 'strip' in Arlington.

Ordered a meatball sub on wheat bread.  It was good, but not great.  Maybe too many spices in the meatball..."where's the beef?"

Didn't have a pizza, but had a calzone...but we had the steak and cheese version - reminded me of a Philly cheese steak.  VERY GOOD.  Now I hate to sound like a fatty...but it was a late lunch and I didn't have breakfast - so I wasn't full at the end of this meal.  :(  With all that bread, meat and cheese I thought I would be but no.  And no, I'm not obese

Also, we had the 5 chicken wing app - SMALLEST wings I've ever had.  Nothing to write home about.

All in all - I will go back.  Great family oriented restaurant, TVs everywhere, lots of different beers available.  For Arlington, it's a great place.

First let me say that I love Mellow Mushroom.  Secondly, I don't like this location!  Go to the MM in Fort Worth on Bluebonnet Circle near TCU.  That location is way better.

I am a regular at the Fort Worth location and it is wonderful.  I was excited that Mellow Mushroom was opening a location in Arlington (which is closer to me).  I have been here twice and it's ok, but the taste just isn't quite the same at the Fort Worth location.

I told an employee at the FW location about how the Arlington location is not living up to the true greatness that is Mellow Mushroom, and he informed me that several regulars have expressed the same sentiments about the newer place in Arlington and that it could possibly have something to do with the oven.  That's unfortunate.

Travel to the Fort Worth Mellow Mushroom and you will be a much happier customer!

I came with a group and it was our first time in a pizza establishment like this. We were overwhelmed with all the different variety of pizzas. Our server recommended the House pizza (supreme). We also ordered a few apps; bbq wings, garlic bread and meatballs.

    The BBQ wings were good.
The garlic bread was alright. It was a bit crunchier than what I expected but it was still good.
The meatballs were really good. They had it skewered on a stick and in between them was a chunk of cheese, very chewy.
The pizza was huge and delicious! I've only had Domino's, Pizza Hut and the likes all my life so this was life changing. The crust was so fluffy, it was unreal.

Only drawback is the price. For a group of four, it was around $50.
We came around 4 on a Friday. The place only had a few customers but it quickly filled up as time went on.

I'm giving MM 4 stars, simply because they have one of the best pizzas in the area.

HOWEVER, if you are going to shell out $50 for pizzas and appetizers, I recommend that you dine-in if you want to feel that you are getting your money's worth.

So, for a fun dine-in experience, choose Mellow Mushroom. For a cheap take-out experience, try Pizza Hut or some other chain.

We'll return to Mellow Mushroom, but only as a special occasion type of visit.

And on a side note to MM, try a little less grease on the pizzas. Our hands were slathered in it!

This place was pretty highly touted by some friends of mine that went to school in South Carolina. It's apparently very popular there and they were really hyped about being able to go in Texas.
Oh the other hand, my boyfriend had mentioned that his sister had brought back some pizza from MM and he though it was kinda gross and expensive. She's gluten free though, so no clue if that costs extra. So there was the toss up.

After scoring some tickets to the Rangers game, the short drive to MM afterwards sounded ideal. There was no wait on a Friday night 7:30ish, which I was glad for. Among 4 friends, we split an order of cheesy bread and hummus. Bread? Yum. Yum. Yum. Cheese was so melty and was very tasty. In the future, I will remember to ask for a side of ranch early so that I can heighten my experience with their bread. (Ranch is .30 cents or so, but very flavorful and a runny consistency, just the way I like it)
Hummus was also very good with a non chalky texture and decor of outlining mellow on the plate with paprika. (Maybe? the red spice didn't have any zing to it)

One of the girls and I shared the house special pizza. The small was about the size of a dinner plate, cut into fourths. For us, it was pretty much the perfect serving after the appetizers we all shared.

The crust was pretty interesting, as there was a lot of it, and it was chewy with a bit of a different texture than I'm used to. Almost grainy maybe. Probably wouldn't have eaten it without the assistance of the ranch.

The waitress split our checks, even 1/4 ing the appetizers. So 1/4 of 2 apps, a ranch and half a small house pizza, my bill came out to just under 12 bucks.

I'd be down to eat here again- I really had no qualms about it. Decor was as expected - black lights and psychedelic posters you would expect to find in a depressed, confused teenagers room. Did I see an actual lava lamp or two? Maybe, or I just placed them there in my mind.

If I could give this branch 0 stars, I would. Let me preface this review by saying that I have been a long time fan of Mellow Mushroom, and I have visited many of their locations across numerous states. This was without a doubt the WORST Mellow Mushroom location I have ever visited, and one of the worst meals I've ever had at any restaurant.

I got my order to go. They told me it would be 30 minutes (which is to be expected for fresh baked food). We gave them 35-40 minutes to be on the safe side, and the food was not ready when we got there.  We ordered a spinach dip appetizer and two different calzones. The calzones were "ready" when we arrived, however the spinach dip was not. The calzones contained 1 half-full ramekin of marinara each. I naturally asked for more as it was an obvious inadequate amount for a full calzone. They felt the need to charge me for extra marinara (which was also half full). While I found this ridiculous, it would have been something I could easily overlook had the food been good.

Unfortunately, the food was horrible and basically inedible. The dough was still raw, and I mean RAW. I don't know how anybody could have served that to a customer and think it was okay. We had to cook them for another 15 minutes when we got home, and they still tasted horrible. Not to mention they were already the smallest, most pitiful looking calzones I've ever had from Mellow Mushroom. And don't get me started on the spinach dip! We received a (once again) half full container of dip that was completely cold (even though we had to wait on it when we arrived) and had congealed into a truly inedible mass of i-don't-know what.

Even though this branch is less than five minutes from my house, I plan on making the 30 minute drive to the Ft. Worth branch next time I get a Mellow Mushroom craving. Truly disappointing as I've been waiting for this branch to open for a long time!

To contain my sheer glee in the face of such Epicurean delightfulness would border on disingenuous.   What am I rambling about?  The Mellow Mushroom in Arlington of course.  It has rudely usurped Old School Pizza and Suds as the best pie in town in just its second day in operation.   Don't get me wrong, Old School is good pizza but The Mellow Mushroom is superior, albeit much more expensive.   Neither are the quality of Fireside Pies, but then we don't have one here in Arlington.

Entering the establishment one is confronted with a hip, stylish decor and an a welcoming ambiance.  The bar is large and is accented by blue lighting which is quite alluring.  I think I'll be back on Friday night for some beers.  :)

I won't go over the whole menu, but suffice it to say they have a nice selection of appetizers, sandwiches and pizzas.

I ordered the meatballs as an appetizer.  If they screw this up, they're dead before they start.  When they arrived I was pleasantly surprised.  The presentation was quite messy, but I'm more concerned with the dish itself.  (I would suggest to the kitchen manager, clean it up by using 3 large curls of parmesan in the middle  instead of 1000 flakes all over the plate. ) The meatballs were quite substantial;  paired with the chunks of Mozzarella and the copious amount of sauce it's a meal unto itself.  The meatballs were beautifully seared lending a delightful crunch to the texture.  The seasoning was spot on in both the meatballs and the savory pomodoro sauce that accompanied them.   Good job!  That dish made me happy.

On to the pizza.  It's a near facsimile of the venerable Neapolitan style.  It may even be a sourdough, I couldn't quite tell.  It never sees a rolling pin and is baked in a very hot brick oven (he never did tell me the temp).  The crust was perfect.  Crispy crunchy on the outside, tender yet chewy on  the inside.  This is what a pie should be!  I ordered the "Mellowterranean".  The olive oil and garlic base was the perfect complement to the chicken, roasted red peppers and feta cheese.  Interestingly, they served it with Tzatziki sauce on the side.  I wasn't sure if that was brilliant or just crazy.   I think it would have been pure evil genius, but they have gone a bit heavy handed with the mint and it's quite overpowering; a distraction from an otherwise delicious pizza.  I hope they fix that.

The server was a respectful young man who was working only his second shift and yet was quite knowledgeable of the menu.  That's usually a good sign.

I can finally rest knowing that Arlington, at long last, has both a delicious pizza and one that's as close to a true Neapolitan  as we are likely to ever have.  I strongly suggest you give it a try, and unless I just got lucky this time I'm sure you're going to love it.  I'll be back soon to try their meat lovers pizza (whose name currently eludes me).   Buon Appetito!
