This review is BEER Only... which was amazing. Â I came for the all-weekend wood event, which is barrel aged beers, specifically sour beers. Â They had so many amazing hard-to-find beers on tap that I could not miss it. Â My first and only time to Memphis, and I will definatley come back.
The bartender was really nice, the crowd was chill, not overly-crowded, not too loud, and cool atmosphere. Â The layout reminded me of Bishops Collar near the Art Meuseum. Â I didn't eat, but the menu had several good choices for foodies.
Can't wait to come back!
I would've given the Memphis Taproom a one star if not for that I like it so much.
The food is obnoxiously delicious, the beer list overwhelmingly awesome, and it makes me angry how hospitable the service always is to its guests. They could've at the very least ignored my empty water glass, yet they decided to go the attentive route like responsible adults. Pathetic.
Screw this place. Â It's amazing, and you have to try it.
Ahhhhh, I saw this joint on Diners, Drives & Dives on the food network. Â One of the dishes they showed was their Smoked Coconut Club sandwich. Â Me being a greedy vegetarian, I had to make a mental note and a yelp bookmark to get to this place and taste that sandwich. Â Well, first of all, it is more in a residential area, like a corner bar, and to find parking...(lets forget that part). Â After the 2 block walk to the restaurant, we walk in, greeted by bartender, then seated by waitress shortly after. Â The restaurant has the old rustic feel to it. Â Wood floors, wood tables and chairs. Â Kinda tight on space, tables and chairs pretty close together. Â For drinks, I don't care for beer, which is their specialty, soooo many to choose from, which shocked me. Â Some guests at another table were sampling a few beers. Â I should have followed suit, lol. Â They didn't have a mixed drink menu, so I asked the waitress what she recommended, so I had a cosmopolitan I think, cranberry juice with lemon vodka. Â It was ok, it coulda used a true crushed ice, to make it more like a slush, or maybe im wrong...just my opinion. Â The fries were handcut fries, but were extremely salty!!! We had to send them back, which the waitress didn't hesitate to offer a new batch. The new batch were delicious, fresh, not overcooked, and no salt, which we added a pinch ourselves. Â Hubby ate a burger, which he said was good. Â My smoked coconut club(drum roll...) lol, the coconut was salty to me, not sure what they smoke it with, but it was an abundance on the sandwich, which could be why it tasted salty. Â Other than that the sandwich was good, but not like, outta this world good. Â I remember seeing the fried pickles on tv too, and a lot of people were ordering them. Â I almost forgot to mention our appetizer, which was a kale empanada...it was really delicious, just that I think the portion size was small, just 2 small empanadas. Â I was shocked to see all the vegetarian choices offered on the menu, but happy to see I actually had choices, and not just a veggie burger!! Â We rode by as we were leaving, and saw that they had a courtyard with tables for dining, which had quite a few people out there. Â I saw it too late to eat out there, lol.
Review Source:I wish I liked this place more. Â Maybe I went in with overly-high expectations, but I just have not been impressed. Â Both times I have been here, the food has been good, but not great. Â The first time I got the fried chicken, which was good but overpriced. Â The second time I got the roasted pork sandwich. Â It was mostly bread with some cheese, greens, and a little pork. Â It was just not very satisfying. Â Their fries are not that great. Â I liked the fried onions the first time, but last time I went, they were cut way too big and were not nearly as crispy. Â Last time I was there, the service was glacially slow. Â Maybe I'm ordering the wrong things or just having bad luck, but I really do not get what the fuss is all about.
Review Source:Service here is by far one of the worst places I have encountered in my life. Â The snarky and apathetic nature of the blond waitress was one of the most off putting experiences I have had at any restaurant. Â The menu is definitely adventurous, but unfortunately the actual food didn't live up to the descriptions.
We had:
The mixed radish salad with a lime cilantro gelee. Â The greens itself consisted exclusively of pea shoots and the gelee seemed like an afterthought. Â The whole thing seemed to have one note.
The kale empanadas. Â Again the description was better than the actual food itself.
The lamb kebab with English peas, barley pilaf, and stout pomegranate BBQ. Â This dish was actually the dish that saved an otherwise horrible dining experience. Â The flavors were definitely there: Â the sweet, the sour, and the salty. Â The lamb itself was underwhelming. Â It was definitely too tough for my liking.
All in all, a somewhat disappointing meal, but definitely had potential in an area of town that doesn't have many options for dining besides Loco Pez and Pizza Brain.
But the worst part about the night was the short blond hair waitress. Â We tried to engage with her about the restaurant, the food, what she preferred, etc. Â Every question or comment we made was met with a blank stare and a one or two word response. Â Her overall demeanor made us both feel like we were imposing on her. Â She lightened up after she heard us discussing her treatment of us earlier, but at that point it is too little too late. Â Note to the waitress with the attitude: Â you are the face of the chef who has spent countless hours defining and refining a menu that they hope will be enjoyed by the patrons. Â You should be happy to talk about the food and explain the menu. Â It is in fact your job. Â In essence you are the mouth piece of the chef. Â People go to restaurants for the food, but also for the overall dining experience. Â
I live in the neighborhood and had it not been for the waitress would have most definitely come back again to sample other dishes. Â But I don't see that happening anytime soon.
REUBEN!!!!!! Where have you gone my love?! I came here regularly to delight in your pleasures! To taste the tenderness of your flesh and the brightness of your kraut. You were my beloved. Why have you left me?
I have been to this cozy neighborhood joint numerous times. I've tried a ton of things. All are good, some are super (the kielbasa rocks). But the Reuben must have been too close to heaven to stay with us. That sandwich could woo me from my hungover slumber. It could convince me to leave my house and put on human clothes. It was the grandest, I say. Memphis!!! BRING HER BACK!!!
It was so good my boyfriend and I would literally be walking to a different restaurant, look at each other and say, "Wouldn't a Reuben be better?" turn around and walk to Memphis. Then we'd sit down and BOTH order the succulent hunk of meat love and slip into a heavenly beer food coma.
I could go on. But I won't. You get it. I'm mourning. I just want her back :'''(
After my third visit to Memphis Taproom, I am officially hooked.
This is a quaint little place. I love that it's not too big and not too bright. It's almost like a cool little dive bar that only locals know about, only better. There is a nice bar in the front and tables in the back for lunch/dinner. It looks really small, but I've never had any problems getting a table right away here- the last time I was with a party of 7 and we were seated right away, at 9 o'clock on a Friday!
My favorite part of MTR is the staff. They are so knowledgeable about the beer list and are always eager to make recommendations based on your tastes. I've had some of the best beers of my life just by letting our server pick my beer for me. They have great beers on tap, but I prefer to go for some of the more obscure imported bottles they have.
Now, the food. OMG THE FOOD. First of all, I am obsessed with their wings. I fancy myself something of an authority on wings, and I'll tell you that these are some of the best. They're pilsner-brined, so they come out extra plump and juicy. They're always perfectly cooked and the sauce is really good too. I could stand it to be a little hotter, but now I'm just nit-picking.
I've also gotten the smoked coconut club all three visits. Listen. I know what you're thinking. I can tell you, as an avid meat eater, I too was afraid to try a tofu and smoked coconut sandwich, but I am SO glad I did. The flavor is wonderful and the sandwich is filling enough without making me feel like I need a nap. Also, since I have had it three times now, I can confirm that it is as consistent as hell. I have also had a few bites of the roast pork sandwich and the Port Richmond platter- both fantastic. The table also went crazy for the beer-battered dill pickles that a friend ordered and while I didn't taste them myself, they definitely looked delicious.
I really love this place. I can't wait till the weather warms up and I can check out the attached beer garden, but I promise I will try something different to eat next time...maybe...
I think I my expectations for Memphis were a bit too high. Â My girlfriend and I had brunch here on memorial day weekend. Â The brunch menu is small and I would have rather ordered off the lunch menu. Â
Our bartender was about as knowledgeable as one could be on their beer. Â She explained in so much detail that I felt like a beer novice. Â The draft list was great and the bottle selection was huge.
For our meals we had:
EGGS BEDNARIK . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$10
Poached eggs, kielbasy, english muffins and hollandaise
KING RAREBIT . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$10
Old Peculiar-cheddar fondue, Texas toast, sunny side up eggs, served with fries
I ordered a side of potatoes because I thought the Bednarik didn't come with them. Â They did and I wish our bartender would have said something. Â I wouldn't have doubled up on them if I would have known. Â The hollandaise was good but not anything special. Â The Kilebasy was very very good.
My girlfriend has the King Rarebit with the fondue on the side. Â The fondue was good but not great.
I was satisfied with my meal and it was priced very fair. Â I wouldn't come back for brunch again but I will return to try lunch or dinner. Â On our way out we stopped at the lunch truck in the beer garden to grab a hot dog. Â
MACKINAC
Grilled dog, chili, cheddar, raw onion, yellow mustard, macaroni salad
The hot dog was good and we had ours minus the macaroni salad.
If it wasn't so windy I would have liked to sit outside and try a few more beers.
Well known because of Diners Drive-ins and Dives -- definitely a great place for creative bar food and great beers.
Try their local brew (its from Manayunk Brew Co), or anything else on tap.
Highlights include the catfish po'boy, vegan BLT, and fried pickles.
Minus 1 star for their brunch menu. Although it was interesting, it lacked the polish of their regular menu.
Complete hipster place. Smaller than I imagined, but accommodating to couples, groups, and families with children. Awesome beer selection, and server always is able to recommend something new if you tell her/ him what you normally drink. The food is just phenomenal. True southern taste with a Philly flair. Fried pickles were the best I have ever had (and I usually order them everywhere I go). Just know that since it's southern style, almost everything has a kick to it! Chicken fried chicken was to die for- but again, spicier than your average friend chicken with an even spicier sauce drizzled on top. Port Richmond Platter (kielbasi, pierogie, potato pancake) was delicious as well, but again- the kielbasi was spicier than your run of the mill polish kielbasi. I would love to come back and try their brunch one day!
Review Source:It's a little out of the way from Center City, but I am so glad I popped in! The vegan menu items were amazing. I started with the jackfruit crab cakes and had the smoked coconut club. Both were great and I can't wait to go back and try the spaghetti sandwich! The beer selection was also top-notch and they have a nice beer garden open during the spring and summer as well.
Review Source:Oops, lost another star.
Now the beer garden at MTR has no prices for their beer as well as the bar inside. Â Prices for the dogs went up a dollar but they're still a great buy and very tasty. Â The staff is always really friendly out there and it's usually a pretty good experience. Â I wish they had sides offered because one dog isnt always enough and two sometimes is more than I want. Â Mostly though it pisses me off they dont post beer prices.
Heard a lot of great reviews for this place, which may have set my expectations too high. There was nothing I particularly liked or disliked about it, so I'm giving it a neutral 3-star rating.
My friend and I came here for a weekly catch-up dinner. I ordered the reuben, per the waiter's suggestion, and he had the roast pork sandwich. We both enjoyed our meal and the beers were good. The ambiance isn't my favorite, so I was ready to leave after eating instead of staying for a couple more rounds.
It's in a very unobtrusive location that you might look past as it looks like all the other buildings and doesn't even have a real sign out there. The bar tenders are alternatively inattentive or too attentive to the people out there, but they know their beer and their selection is exquisite. My only complaint is to warn people if it's going to be served in a proper 16oz glass or something more artisan.
Food wise it's outstanding, I haven't seen one thing that didn't look marvelous and of the things I've eaten they've all been fantastic. The chicken is outstanding, the greens are fantastic and the portions are pretty good. The tofu club looked so good I might have to try it sometime! If you are in the area go for it, give it a shot. You'll like this amazing gastropub
Why can't there be restaurants like this where I live?
I ate here with friends Saturday night. It is an awesome place. Small and cozy, friendly staff. Intimate lighting. There is a bar in the front as well as a sit-down area. The menu is so creative and everything we had was delicious.
The catfish po'boy I ordered was so fresh and delicate but really huge. My boyfriend ordered a cajun stew with shrimp, fried chicken, collard greens, and pork belly. Each bite of pork belly was like heaven. So delightfully porky, with molten fat on the inside. We shared a cheese plate that had three gourmet artisan cheeses with surprisingly delicious condiments: dates, apples, and onion jam. (The onion jam is badass.)
I am in love with this place.
Whoa, this place is legit. It's definitely one of the most creative menus in the city. It's one of the few times I've read a menu and thought, "I would be equally happy with literally any dish on this menu."
I've stopped in here twice. Once it was so crowded and the wait so long, that we decided to bail and go someplace else. The other time was for a late dinner (I think it may have been as late as 11pm and they were still seating in the dining room, though don't retweet me on that).
The dining room as a great, rustic, no-frills, gastropub feel to it. Above the door is a blackboard with all of the beers they have (I like when places use blackboards for their beer lists because it means they are turning the beers over quickly).
The beer selection is fantastic, and I was ecstatic to find the De Dolle Oerbier on the menu. This is literally one of the best beers in the world--check it out. The waitress complimented me on my selection, and it was awesome as expected when it arrived.
As for food, my friend with the famous coconut bacon BLT. The coconut bacon was definitely good, but not sure it met the hype. Overall, though, the sandwich was excellent (she was nice enough to share). My wife got the Port Richmond platter, which looked amazing. It was all of the polish specialties you could imagine (kielbasa, pierogies, potato pancakes, sauerkraut ). I was possessed by some demon to order to the pork and beans, and I was happy that I was. It was really freaking delicious. My other friend got the kielbasa grinder, which was essentially the Port Richmond platter on a roll!
I would definitely recommend trying Memphis. You way want to try to get here at an off hour to avoid a huge crowd, though. I can't wait to go back for brunch. #requisiteMentionOfBrunch
I went here with a group of friends for lunch today. One thing that kinda upset me is the fact that they only serve their brunch menu on weekends. Oh well, a lunch at noon wouldn't be so bad I thought. I ordered the fried banana salad and the fried banana wasn't what I expected. It was too mushy for my taste buds.
It seems like  this place gets a lot of traffic though. And I heard the beer garden opens on April 20th.
I love to watch the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" and drool over the food they feature. It's been my dream to go to one of the restaurants featured on the show. So, when a friend told me that Memphis Taproom had been featured on triple D and was right in her 'hood, I absolutely had to try it!
Memphis Taproom is not that big and it was packed on this particular Friday night. We had to wait for around half an hour, but luckily we got some spots at the bar and were able to have a round of drinks while we waited.
We got seated and then came the hard part: deciding  what to order. Our table started with the chili cheese fries, which were made with pale and really delicious. For my entrée, I got the chicken fried chicken. Fried chicken is one of my favorite foods, and this didn't disappoint. It was crispy and fried to perfection. It came with a side of spicy habanero mac and cheese which had just enough kick to make it interesting and collard greens to balance everything out.
I tried some of my friend's meals, including the broccoli rabe mac and cheese which was really good and I would totally consider ordering next time, and the fish and chips which was perfectly battered - the crunchy exterior was melt-in-your mouth delicious.
We ended the meal by all sharing a pineapple upside down cake and a peanut butter chocolate pie. The pineapple cake wasn't really that great and was the only thing less-than-perfect out of the whole experience, but the chocolate peanut butter pie made up for it by being really amazing.
The beer selection is phenomenal, too. I hope to go back again and try the brunch menu next time.
I went back last night for dinner with my girlfriend and oh my god....the food was amazing. Perfect. There isnt a thing I would change about my experience last night.
I got the Port Richmond platter and the fried pickles. Perfection. It was cooked perfectly and the portions were just right.
My girlfriend got the Spaghetti Sandwich...which she had before and loved. We've actually been waiting for it to show up again on the menu so we could try Memphis Taproom out again. But yeah, that was perfect as well.
The staff knew EVERYTHING about EVERY beer on the menu! That was very very awesome. I wanted to try a few beers, but wasn't sure what style they were. Our waitress (ugh, I forget her name) described the beers I mentioned and even suggested pairings for them. Very nice touch.
This place is so much better than I remember. I'll be back for sure!
Sadly it was hard to even give Memphis Taproom two stars.
I have been here before, but it is on a downhill slide and the slope is steep.
Bartenders - very friendly and knowledgeable. Â However, they are know pouring your beer with 25% head.
Beer- Overpriced!! Â No prices listed and no sizes listed. Â These issues completely overshadow a fine mix of beers. Â But I can get a fine mix of beers many places in Philly and know what I am getting.
Food - it is great to have the selection, but the quality and prices have gone opposite directions. Â A $10 brussel sprout salad had 4 brussel sprouts on it. Â The famous fried pickle batter is way too thick. Â My coconut club, while excellent in taste, was constructed poorly and many bites of it were just tomato and bread. Â In fairness, the chef was off the night we were there and maybe he oversees things better.
Service - very rushed to get your orders. Â When my beer was only half consumed the waitress starts asking if I want more. Â As soon as apps were ordered, she was back to take the food order. Â Check was delivered within seconds of plates being cleared, even though the beers had a way to go.
Overall, I think that management has gotten greedy and turned a really nice idea into a money making machine and has forgotten that it is the customer's experience that will keep them going.
Good luck, I don't think I will be back any time soon.
Memphis is still in the upper echelon of beer bar in Philadelphia, but newcomer competition and Memphis' ironclad management have dropped the place down a notch. Â
Things I still like: Great beer, honestly some of the stuff here isn't available anywhere else in the city. Â Great brunch. Â Nice outdoor space.
Things that bring it down a notch: Ever increasing beer prices (especially now that tax is not included). Â No prices or pour sizes noted for drinks (I should not be asking the bartender for this information). Â Menu is small and does not change too often, so if you are a regular you may get a bit bored. Â Cash only outside, as well as a separate menu and drink list with no cross over allowed.
I still like what Memphis does, but it is now my 3rd, 4th or 5th choice when it used to be an unquestionable first choice.
Dark dark brown old oil fried fish and chips-Twice!!
My time before last at Memphis Taproom I ordered fish and chips and the order came dark brown, like chocolate brown. I truly had never seen fried food so dark. I asked with the waitress before eating, "excuse me, is it supposed to look like this??" she said "oh yes, and I promise it is great". I look one bite and spit it out--it was old old dark oil fried fish. I sent it back and what I got back was beautiful light caramel beige brown delicious fish and chips. Two nights ago I got chili cheese fries to go (I know, I don't  usually order things like this I swear!!). Got home and it was the same thing with the fried, horrible, hard, dark brown fries. Could not eat them without risk of serious stomach issues.
Memphis Taproom--Please change your oil!!!!!! Sincerely-Mary
In February, the beer garden may not be open, but the inside is cozy and warm. The beer list is extensive, and they have a few wines as well.
The food is elevated from regular old bar food. I had the Port Richmond Platter - pierogies, kielbasa, and potato pancakes, and the garlic fondu appetizer. Â Both excellent, and points for not being on every bar menu in the city. Â It's more restaurant than bar (there were even tables that appeared to be there solely to eat rather than eat and drink) Â with a narrow bar area that can hold about 10 in front, and a medium sized dining room in back. Â We originally were told it was a 40ish minute wait for 2 on a Friday night, but only ended up being 20.
You might have to do a loop or two for parking (free, on street), but the neighborhood is safe (I wouldn't even think to mention this, except I saw some chatter about whether it was in other reviews) and we didn't have to search too long before we found something.
Memphis taproom is an amazing gastropub and they deserve your patronage....the beer and food are fantastic. Â Brendan, the owner, is very friendly and does whatever he can to make sure that you are satisfied. Â The outdoor food truck with gourmet hot dogs is so cool! Â
The menu is fresh and is consonantly rotating new items, while keeping some of the favorites. Â
Since my last review, I have moved to Maine....and miss MT each day we are apart.
So I went back yesterday & finally ordered the fabled Port Richmond platter, a delightful saurkraut, keilbasa, latke and pieroge medley. Â I immediately knew I had to upgrade a star, because a kitchen that creates anything this delicious cetainly deserves it. Â
I always looked at MTR as a sandwich type place, but after ordered a platter & enjoying it as much as I did, I am defintiely a convert. Â
I must also mention that I sampled one of my husband's wings & they are definitely the best around. Â Suicide rings are delicious too.
Outstanding tap list. Among the best in town; and the best in Fishtown/Kensington, too. It crushes Kraftwork. Brendan really knows how to select his beers. Never redundant, always accessible, while still being adventurous. Two beer engines, to boot. This place is really about beer. There are several stand-out choices on the menu too. My favorites include the Port Richmond platter, chicken fried chicken, and beer-battered pickles. Bartenders and staff are awesome--and management treats the employees very well.
The beer can be expensive, which is understandable for the rare beers Memphis offers. However, not publishing prices is less understandable, as is not swallowing the liquor tax at the bar. Not being able to drink in the dining room during slow hours is also an irritant (but understandable during peak hours, too).
Updated on Jan. 24, 2013: Added one star because, literally, it's the best bar in Fishtown and needs that distinction from the others.
One of the handful of great taprooms the city of Philadelphia has to offer! I even found a rare Victory beer on tap. The bartenders are friendly and well informed and can suggest anything great for you.
I like that they offer 2 types of large bottles to drink there or to go.
The food is fantastic! Our group of 6 had ordered various items from the menu;all of which were delicious. There's a hint if Polish ethnicity behind a lot of the foods there:cabbage, kielbasa, pierogies. I can't wait to go back!
Our friends had suggested we all go here for brunch. Â So, on a Saturday at 11 am, we did just that.
The place is cute and located in a really cute part of Port Richmond. Â I went with the vegan Banana French Toast which was actually really good. Â The portion was just right. Â I also got a Bloody Mary which was OUT OF THIS WORLD! Â
The only complaint I have is the "hipster-type-I'm-better-than-you" attitude that the waitstaff had. Â You serve food - you are not brain surgeons, so lose the attitude and refill my drink. Â Thanks.
Memphis is a great option for vegans that like good beer. The menu is marked with symbols that inform you what is vegetarian/vegan. In the past I've had the hummus and veggie curry over rice which were both good. I returned last night with a friend and we split the tofu coconut club and pumpkin potpie . Both dishes were delicious and I would order again . The pumpkin pot pie was a little overpriced at 14 dollars but decent portion.
Atmosphere -the bar is extremely dark which I prefer but could see others disliking the lighting situation . Bartender was very nice and makes beer suggestions/ offers samples . If you don't know the place you can easily miss it from the outside so I suggest really keeping your eyes peeled on your first visit.
Great selection of local beers, but where are the prices? Â They had Dogfish head bitches brew on tap. Â Score.
They won't seat you until the entire party is there, which is ok but the space isn't really all that big to have folks wait inside. Â Perhaps it's different when it's not freezing out. Â No problem, my friend and I squeezed our way into the bar and got drinks while we waited. Â The bartender was very entertaining, too bad I can't remember his name.
I got the pumpkin pot pie and it was DELICIOUS. Â I dont know what that crust is made of but I could eat that all day, everyday. Â It's the perfect comfort food for those cold winter nights. Â :) Â Too bad this place is so far from home, otherwise I'd be there quite often.
Something really awful happened to me last night that usually doesn't. Something very rare to my existence, brought a beautiful experience to a screeching halt. I went to the Memphis Taproom in Fishtown and saw the evil lips of hatred speak ignorance in a place where we had come to gather.
A server, a manager, a staff - selfish, slanted, racist beliefs polluted our night, polluted that short-sighted bar wench who had trouble accepting my eclectic bunch of friends on a Saturday night. Three Philippinos, a few whites, a black girl; we were celebrating a charity event we had organized on that day which brought together a non-profit for kids, a soup kitchen, a church, a photo studio, a community. This is what we were happy about.
Her perception of us probably wasn't what we really are. But she acted on that perception and that emotion. Well, the effects are exponential.
To have that experience interrupt what we are all about makes me believe we may still be falling backwards as a society, and that above all, there are racist idoits working at the Memphis Taproom. As much as this is a rant about society, it's also a negative review for that backwards-ass establishment.
The stupid wench told my black friends to leave when they came to replace my two Phillapino friends that just left, by saying there aren't enough seats when they arrived, like a REAL 1950s Taproom in Memphis. We have come too far as a people for me to think that discrimination will silently go unnoticed. I will not be punished for someone else's slanted point of view.
You may hate me because I think freely, and love constantly. You may hate me because my hair is long. Or my smile is too big. Or my skin isn't the color of yours, but you will not treat me differently. Try it. Try me. I'm the same as you. Maybe even a little better because I don't stop accepting people when they are different than me.
If we let ourselves be divided by hate, then we will continue to divide and hate. If we teach each other love and acceptance, then we will love and accept each other. It's really that simple.
I will never return but to speak of this awful experience. I will not tolerate anyone treating any of the people I love with this kind of disrespect. I will not let my wife or children, MY BLACK WIFE AND MY MIXED CHILDREN, be present to anyone treating them differently based upon any definition but their character. Try it. Try me.
Well here I am thinking I already wrote a review for this place when I was here about a year ago, only to find I only checked in. Â Very disappointed in myself. Â Needless to say, this place rocks and I was prepared to comment on it's consistency. Â When I was hear last year I started out with a beer (I just can't remember which one but I know it was a house recommended beer and it was spectacular.) Â I complimented that with the Sweet Heat Onion Strings. Â In one word, addictive. Â Well two words cause they are spicy too. Â I then treated myself to the Port Richmond Platter, which is any polish food lover's dream. Â Kielbasa, Peirogies, sauerkraut and potato pancakes. Â It was awesome and I ate it all! Â I left wanting to immediately return as if I ate nothing so I could consume it all over again. Â
Round two was just the other night and this time it was a Pumpkin beer that tasted like liquid pumpkin pie that started me off. Â I was with a group so we all shared the Sweet Heat rings, deep fried pickles (I seriously burnt the $hit out of my mouth on one 'cause I was too anxious to try it.). and a cheese plate which seriously...seriously...it was epic. Â Caramelized Onions, pears, some other stuff and three really awesome cheeses. Â Damn it was good. Â
Then it happened, my mind was blown, my taste buds were actually looking at me in disbelief as I consumed THE BEST REUBEN SANDWICH I HAVE EVER HAD. Â I mean, no disrespect to those who make the Reuben, they were probably good, but they will never match the Memphis Taproom's. Â I mean, this wasn't just sliced deli corned beef, this was big manly chunks of flavorful corned beef, smothered in sauerkraut that was perfection, not too bitter or sweet or overpowering. Â The Swiss was the creamiest I've ever had and the Russian dressing...well, it was just dressing, but you can't do that wrong. Â It was just a perfect medley of pure satisfaction. Â It will be extremely hard for me not to order that every time I go there. Â It was THAT good. Â
The staff was super awesome and friendly, thanking us for waiting for our table, attentive, knowledgeable and knew where to get answers. Â It only added to a perfect night and a fantastic meal at the Taproom. Â I'm glad my friend just moved within blocks of this place because I will be back.
P.S. I am really glad that this place didn't let the visit from Triple D affect their operations. Â I have seen that all too often, but these guys and girls keep it real.
