Weekly lunch visit. Yes, there really is a Michael and he's a nice guy. Good photographer too. Mickey & Jane take good care of the guests, most are regulars and they know us by name. Big breakfast menu, lot of lunches. Everything is good. Never had bad food or service. Good to support a locally owned joint in a city full of chains.
Review Source:I truly love this place! We go here every weekend for breakfast and haven't missed since moving here in December. The staff is always friendly, the food is simple, yet tasty, and everything is quick.
We have had a day or two where the food was not as good as other times, but when eating at a place every weekend, you are bound to have a miss once in a while.
I recommend it to anyone looking for a small town feel in a family owned restaurant.
Family run diner and Michael is there seating people and cleaning tables. The food was actually tasty.I had eggbeaters scrambled with Gyro meat and Marble rye toast. The Tzatziki was wonderful and the eggs, meat and Tzatziki all seemed to work. Service was good ,not much atmosphere but, it really doesnt matter as the food was great. Only real complaint was cold toast.I am sure they would have fixed it but, I did not need it anyway.
Review Source:I was in town for a family wedding and needed a place to meet my parents for brunch. Our criteria was lots of good, solid breakfast options, nothing to fancy, and some perfect black coffee. Michael's was the winner and it was absolutely everything we needed it to be. We all had a wonderful brunch of the usual traditional stuff. My mom had the eggs Benedict. I had a skillet. I think my sisters had a skillet and a Belgian waffle. Most of us had coffee. It was all perfect. Everything breakfast should be, cheap delicious, no nonsense. We were well fed, caffeinated, and happy.
Review Source:I'm trying really hard to like this place. Â I love going out for breakfast, so dinging a family owned joint is tough for me to do. Â I just can't seem to get behind Michaels. Â The food is OK. Â Service is hit and miss. Â The good thing ( I think) is that one always makes up for the other.
We were there again this weekend. Â Service was great, but the food was only so so in taste. Â The time before, I thought the food was good, but I couldn't get a coffee refill to save myself.
The corned beef hash is going to be the reason I go back one more time. Â I'm a fan of it and it's hard to find good diner style hash in the area. Â I just wish they'd put a little more of it on my plate.
We finally made it to Michael's Family Restaurant after hearing several people recommend it to us over the past few weeks.
Stopping in for a late lunch, we were surprised to discover a pretty lengthy and diverse menu. We had anticipated something like a sandwich shop, but I this place really reminds me more of a diner with its array of homemade favorites, including manhattans, hot lunch specials and a decent amount of dinner offerings.
I had the Monte Cristo and my guy opted for the gyros sandwich. Both came with perfectly cooked steak fries. The portions were generous, our iced teas were freshly brewed and overall our experience was pleasant. The standout for me was the tzatziki that accompanied the gyros and my own Monte Cristo. The latter was made of tender, perfectly grilled Texas toast that had been dipped a la french toast prior to the assembly of the sandwich. I much prefer this over the method that entails building the sandwich and then dunking the entire thing into batter before deep-frying it. Most often, it comes out a greasy soggy mess. Also, I don't like a ton of overly sweet preserves or powdered sugar on my MC sandwich. That's where Michael's won me over...here the sandwich comes with a small dish of warm maple syrup alongside so one can simply dip at will. Also, just the right amount of cheese, ham and turkey to make this creation the perfect combo of sweet, gooey and savory :-)
We plan to return to Michael's soon to try some of their breakfast and dinner items.
One caveat: the restaurant is typical of a family place where the emphasis is on the food. In other words, the decor is pretty simple, the location is a small strip center at the far west end of Main Street - not in the arts and design district - and the service is functional, as the small staff bustles around handling multiple tasks.
