I love their freshly baked assorted bread that they serve before your meal arrives. The food is just okay, but some of the dishes are excellent! Like my pasta dish. It was fettuccine with artichoke, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and herbs. I loved it!
The ambiance is okay. They have a decent kids menu. The food is very reasonably prices as well. I'm definitely coming back.
Been wanting to check this place out for years. Love me some brunch and finally got the chance to go with my husband and parents.
First off, love their coffee. It's strong and wonderful... I'm a coffee snob and was impressed.
Second, the service was great even though when the food came, mine didn't. The server figured out that my order didn't submit to the kitchen and apologized. I wasn't worried at all, I'm just not that kind if person. I tasted everyone else's food while I waited. The manager came to the table and apologized for my order. He gave me a fresh-out-of-the-oven banana muffin, along with 4 assorted muffins to take home! I thought this was incredibly generous and it was very much appreciated! After a couple more minutes and a couple more apologies from the server, I had my meal in front of me.
Lastly, the food was everything I hoped it would be. Best pancakes I've had in a long time. My hubby's corned beef hash was to die for.
All in all a great meal, and their hospitality was a beautiful surprise.
I recommend!! Today we came here by pure accident as the Juicy-O restaurant which we had a Groupon for was slam packed!! So after driving around a bit decided to try this place and what a nice surprise it was!! One of my clients told me about about this place but we did not realize it was so nice inside! I assumed in was typical little Greek joint restaurant like Omega or Pancake Cafe- noooooo much nicer!! I loved their decor inside! They had a ton of New Orleans type of decor with some very cool pictures that would go great in my kitchen with all the French Chefs etc. I had Cinnamon Brioche French Toast which came with 2 eggs and sausage which was really good! When we got our bill there was this thing to get a pack of 4 freshly assorted baked muffins which I then asked our waitress if I could do on my iPhone and she said sure we'll be able to do that! So I filled out this short survey on my phone and filed their eClub thing and got a free package of muffins! They had a full bar inside and very big inside! Not crazy expensive, good service, great decor, clean, 5 minutes from home- this will definitely be our new place!!
Review Source:My husband and I were at Mimi's about 3 years ago and enjoyed it so we decided to try again. Mimi's has a wonderful breakfast menu - so hard to choose! My husband and I decided to order from the breakfast menu.
The choices were seasonal, vast, and yummy-looking. I ordered cinnamon french toast with bacon. My husband had a spicy breakfast burrito with a cinnamon muffin on the side. Mimi's is set up to look like a French pastry shop so I was so shocked when the muffin came first with margarine {YUCK}.
As soon as she set the margarine down, i asked for butter; the waitress went off in search of butter which is available upon request. She came back more than 10 minutes later with butter - FROZEN, rock hard butter and no apology. When the waitress saw the look on my face, she said she would go get it defrosted (like she was doing me a favor).  More than 15 minutes has now past  and the waitress didn't even offer to reheat my plate. I asked for the management to voice my displeasure on how the situation was handled. The server couldn't have cared less; the manager took another 10 minutes to get to me to ask how everything was.
I've been in Customer Service for over 30 years. As a manager, I would like to know how the food was being served and how my customer was being serviced - both were atrocious. At least if the food was mediocre, I could still find a reason to keep coming back. Both of the issues could have been resolved by managers. I asked the manager to remove my portion of the bill - which she did however she could have done so in a way that people still return. Instead she decided to defend the margarine policy and insist that I was wrong to ask for butter. I would have handled a little differently - apologize for the wait time and offer to get something different or just warm up the current plate. None of that happened.
The manager did remove my ticket item from the bill after I asked her to - no apology, just attitude. We will not be going back for any meals. This place could be really special but they CHOOSE not to be.
I give them two stars because his meal was delicious.
as another reviewer said, MEH.
i was trying to make awkward small talk with my hair stylist and told her about the intense quiche craving i was having the past couple of days. after inquiring about whether i was pregnant  (i wasn't), she recommended mimi's. she said the broccoli and cheese quiche was delicious.
i thanked her profusely and arrived at mimi's door the next day. there were barely any diners but the ambience and decor was nice. i perused thru the menu even though i knew what i wanted to get. it looked promising enough with lots of choices.
i ordered the quiche and my cousin got the Turkey, Brie, Cranberry croissant with fries. my quiche came with a lame salad and two pieces of fruit. the quiche most likely came out of a pre-packaged frozen meal. it was lukewarm.
cousin's coffee was cold. she pretended to enjoy the sad, limp croissant because i was initially excited about the place. quite frankly, it looked like an airline meal.
i finished my quiche and she ate up her croissant and fries. we paid and left and won't come back.
next time i get a quiche craving, i'll just go to Panera for their egg souffle.
The worst place I've ever eaten. Â This was my first visit and definitely the last. The hostess was a b*%#% (should have left then). Service was awful, not one person smiled or kindly greeted us. The food wasn't impressive. Yet, it's pretty pricey. I should have spent my $90.00 elsewhere. TWO THUMBS DOWN!!
Review Source:I was very impressed with my first visit to Mimi's. I had heard only good things then saw reviews were kinda mixed so trying it was a must and I am glad I did! I had the Turkey Sandwich and my girlfriend had the chicken parmesian, both were outstanding! I'll have to try breakfast here sometime now that I know their lunch is delicious!
Review Source:I don't have a whole lot to say about Mimis except... MEH.
I enjoy that they send us coups all the time, usually buy 1 get 1 with 2 drink purchase. Â
I wish something about this place would wow me, but it just doesn't. Â It seems to try to be far more fancy than it actually is. Â
Food is decent, service... could be better.
Food was tasty but the service is awful. It took 2 people to figure out where to seat me and my husband. Didn't get the orange juice that came with my breakfast and it took 10 min to even get asked if I wanted a refill on my coffee. Every request to the server seemed like I asked him to teach the world's children how to read. Yeah, I think I'm going to stay away.
Review Source:this was was the first time I have eatin at this place and it will be the last!
Coming from my young brother in-laws soccer game ( he's 10) were it was 55 degrees in June , me and my family were starving for a good hot meal.
got seated right away but took our waitress about another 10min to even get our drink orders. for starters we got the hummus with basil and feta, that was ok the too thick crackers and cucumbers kinda ruined it though, then we had the Asian sampler, again not too bad but I have had considerably better for cheaper and we waited way too long for two appetizers , at least 20min for food that really didn't require any or no real cooking . then things got even worse, it was ten till nine , we arrived around 7:45 and still our main meal had not arrived, place was practically empty , so they were not backed up !!!,
the tomato bisque tasted like burnt vomit, worst thing on the menu !! I had the classic dip sandwich , not as terrible however a value meal from White Castle would have been five star compared to this garbage !!
you know you you at at a bad place when you have to find a Walgreens on your way home to buy a bottle of liquid ant-acid!!
Yuck! :( Â After playing with our son at the Naperville Public Library on 95th, we decided to stop in here for brunch. Â Mimi's is a chain you see out in Southern CA, so I think my CA-raised husband was feeling nostalgic when he suggested it. Â The experience started off bumpy. Â When we walked in, the hostess said to us "breakfast or lunch?" with a scowl. Â Well hello to you too... Â Then she took us to a table, where my husband proceeded to sit down into a puddle of maple syrup on the seat...nice... Â Service was incredibly slow and our server was hard to track down. Â On top of all that, and really this was the cardinal sin, the food was disgusting. Â My husband's beef dip sandwich was so overcooked, it resembled a piece of leather. Â I had French toast, which is impossible to mess up, but the sides were inedible. Â The eggs were so overcooked and rubbery, they looked like fake food. Â And the turkey sausage was an unappetizing grey color. Â All in all a really gross meal. Â We will not be back.
Review Source:how can you screw up breakfast? service was terrible. sunday morning 10am and the place was maybe a qrt. full? that should tell you something.
had to beg for water and coffee. asked for crispy bacon. came med rare. asked for some new pieces and she brought out black bacon, that was obviously the same stuff she just brought out and it had been nuked. she said under her breath "this is probably too done."
everyone was done with their breakfast at this point. I asked to have it taken off the bill. they couldn't? as if they "a la carte" the breakfast, it would have cost even more?
over priced garbage! here's a secret to crispy bacon, dry off the fat after it's cooked med. well.
IHOP blows this place away. had no idea this is a chain.
We had such a pleasant experience here yesterday. Our waiter was so helpful with answering our endless questions and helping to make our little guy feel comfortable while dining. Â This place was packed; luckily my husband made reservations earlier in the morning.
We ordered a three-slider appetizer that was delish! It came with a spicy ketchup that added enough "pop" to the meat.
I enjoyed the 10.99 two-course: French onion soup and a Parisian shrimp salad. The soup was tasty and the perfect size. There were more onions than liquid, but I like onions. Â
I'm not sure why they call it a"Parisian" salad. There was feta cheese on it with Romaine, artichoke and diced tomatoes. It was good nonetheless. The skewered shrimp was grilled well and there was a perfect amount of spice to the flavoring.
My husband had the Jambalaya. It was such a large portion and spicy. He loved it. I tried a taste but liked mine better.
Lastly, we enjoyed an apple crisp with some coffee. The apples were perfectly done and the crisp was crispy. The sauce inside gushed out after every bite. I normally don't mention coffee in a review, but this coffee had a unique flavor. It was chicory-like. Really good.
My boyfriend and I went into this restaurant around noon on a Saturday hoping for brunch. Â The hostess had her back to the door and didn't even acknowledge us until we'd been standing there for awhile. Â She seated us and gave one of us a breakfast menu and the other a lunch menu. Â Really? Â We couldn't have one of each? Or better yet, if they serve breakfast all day, why not have a combined menu? Â At any rate, we weren't overly impressed with either menu. Â However, it didn't matter. Â We never actually tried the food. Â After sitting at our table for 10 minutes and having numerous members of the waitstaff walk past our table, but never stop to acknowledge us (no water, no coffee, not even a grunt in our direction), we closed the less-than-impressive menus, got our coats and left. Â We went to Pomegranate Cafe in Aurora and had a much better experience and a tasty breakfast. Â
Mimi's Cafe . . . you really need to get your act together.
In general I am not a fan of any rushes, so coming here at 130 on a Wednesday was probably a good call. My son and I did a little mommy and me lunch and were treated with a giant booth that would normally be acceptable for 6 or more people.
The server was nice and friendly and we were never rushed. Meals come with a free muffin, and that carrot cake choice was awesome. I had one of the healthy options, the salmon with strawberry salad and it was perfect. My son had the kid's two mini burgers. There was a very generous amount fries with the burger, and although the little burgers were good, they were a little strange. They weren't burgers so much as hunks of meat served on sweet rolls. No complaints though, as my son ate all of them.
This is a very kid friendly place. Our total was about 22$, which is about right. We will definitely be back with room for dessert next time.
It's hit or miss here. I come here every few months. Last time I came here, it was definitely a miss. The service was fine, but the food was definitely not prepared right. One of the wait staff tried to bring another table's food to my table, which in hindsight might have been a good thing.
I ordered a turkey sandwich with brie and cranberry relish, with French onion soup. My soup never came. The sandwich came, and the cheese was cold and congealed, suggesting it was melted at some point, then sat in the kitchen for a time -- I'm guessing right next to my soup, because when I asked where it was and they finally brought it to me, that was cold too! It was also very salty, and the sandwich was lacking turkey something fierce.
For the price? I'd avoid this establishment until they hire or train better kitchen staff.
Edit: I just ate here again a week ago. The service and food were much improved, and I think that largely had to do with my Waitress being awesome. Eating here might still be a bit of a gamble in regards to the food and service, but if Americanized faux French food is your thing, by all means try Mimi's.
I had a sudden craving for chicken pot pie and found this place via yelp. We'd driven by it many times, but I always thought it was more of a breakfast place. It's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and has quite an extensive menu and a full bar. We found a printable coupon online for "buy one entree get one half off," so decided to give it a try.
Right off the bat, we were impressed by the kids' menu. They have 10 or 12 options, including several healthier options you don't see on a typical kids' menu, like a turkey dinner, and grilled chicken. Of course, I think my son had something like mini corn dogs, but we were able to talk him into fruit as a side instead of french fries. I had the chicken pot pie, which did not disappoint. I liked it so much I had to take my leftovers home - not an easy feat with such a messy dish. My husband had a full turkey dinner with turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberries, etc. and really enjoyed it.
One thing we particularly enjoyed was the bread basket - filled with homemade muffins and breads like pumpkin, lemon poppyseed, etc.
The ambiance, menu, and food are a few steps above something like a Baker's Square or Chili's, but so are the prices. If I find another coupon, we are sure to return.
I had been to the Mimi's Cafe in Denver and was amazed by the breakfasty goodness of the basket of muffins and pastries that came before the meal, so I was excited to try the location near me. Â The first time I went, I was very snootily told that there was a 45 minute wait and "probably longer". Â We opted to not wait since I was with my kids. We did return at an off time weeks later, and were seated immediately. This time, my experience was the exact opposite of the Mimi's Cafe in Denver. We went for lunch and perhaps this was the difference. I was very unimpressed with my Reuben sandwich, and my husband didn't think his meal was worth the price. In addition, there was no basket of muffins brought to our table. Â My whole bill came to over $50, and the meal was definitely substandard. Boo.
Review Source:Being a big fan of hearty breakfast food, I could not resist this joint. Their omelettes/griddles and French breakfast entrees come with some combination of red skin potatoes, muffin and juice. It is a bit upscale for me, but it definitely hits the spot. The ingredients are fresh, and the servings are the size of Chicago. The aforementioned potatoes are exemplary. They had me at hello. Meat lovers, get the mardi gras omelette. It comes with ham, bacon, sausage and Cajun sausage.
I went to Mimi's for lunch and ordered their avacado/albacore salad sandwich. First thing about this sandwich is its' height. This thing is HUGE! It must be 3 inches tall. Yeah, I was classy and made a pretty good mess of myself while eating this behemoth. It was quite tasty as a matter of fact. It came with fries, which may be the ultimate Achilles' heel for me. They also offer a Mix and Match, where you get a cup of soup and half a sandwich for those who want to try more items on the menu.
I really like the interior of the restaurant, it is classy and has a personality of its' own. The food is a little bit pricey but you definitely get what you pay for.
Cheers.
This was a first visit & defiantly the last. This was an impulse visit, as my son was in for the weekend and suggested it. Thankfully it was just the two of us. It was about 11:30am on a Saturday when we arrived, so we did expect it to be busy. The parking lot was adequate and we found a spot quickly. As we walked in I noticed people in the breezeway and in the large lobby waiting for tables. So I figured we could be waiting quite a while. Took my son's name, handed us a buzzer and we sat down at a small table in a walkway. I started to look around and noticed quite a large number of EMPTY tables and booths. In fact, in one section alone the whole side was empty, plus several across the walkway. Many tables were not cleared either. There was plenty of tables for all the guests that were waiting.
Half-hour we were finally seated. They asked us if we were having breakfast or lunch even before we sat down. We hadn't decided at that time, (hadn't seen a menu) so she gave us only one menu of each. Â We both decided to order off the breakfast menu. My son ordered the Stuffed Blueberry French toast, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He did mention it was very sweet, and there was no need to add any syrup. (they served it with maple, should have been some type of berry) I originally was going to order the Eggs Benedict, but was talked out of it by our waitress who suggested the Crap Benedict. I love crap cakes and thought it sounded interesting. Plus I'm trying to cut carbs & I did mention that to the waitress.
When our orders came I was surprised to see the red potatoes on the plate along side the eggs, but later realized that was a good thing. The eggs & the Hollandaise sauce was good, the crap cakes were an INEDIBLE gooey uncooked mess. It is making me nauseous even thinking about it now. When the waitress stopped by to check on us, I showed her the crap cake and she just shrugged her shoulders and said the prep guy must have made a mistake, he's new. Then instead of removing it from the table, she just walked away!! So I tried to toughen up and eat it. I was only able to barely make it through one and ate most of those red potatoes to get it down. You have to understand I was very hungry by this point (we had not had anything to eat that day).
I finally had to push the plate away to the table edge, as the waitress passes by. She looks at it and asks if there was something wrong. I told her I just couldn't stomach any more of that gooey mess. I must of looked purple or something, cause she ran off with the plate. She returned later and said something about "She said to give you these" and places a container of four muffins on the table and our check. Which by the way they DID charge me for the meal. The waitress keep blaming the prep guy for the crab cakes. I guess she was worried about her tip. If I were her I would worry about the restaurant staying in business so I would still have my job.
We will NEVER return here, even if someone else is paying!!!!
Still nauseous!!!! I need to get this out of my mind!!!
One thing I forgot to mention, the whole time we were seated at our booth, workers kept walking out of the kitchen area loaded with dirty dishes and walking past all of the booths we were sitting at. Don't know where behind us they were going, but the design of the restaurant is poor if you have to do this.
I've never had a bad BREAKFAST/BRUNCH meal at Mimi's cafe! The staff can sometimes be on or off but really it's all about the food. Mimi's is VERY generous about their portions.
Their omelets are really good, especially the crab and avacado, as well as their eggs florentine benedict! I also LOVE LOVE LOVE their muffins (generally comes with their meal), most of all their carrot cake raisin nut muffin! The best ever! Their red skin potatoes that comes with some breakfast items are really good as well---I like my potatoes. Also, if you're in the mood for something sweet, their blueberry stuffed french toast is delicious.
I am shocked that Mimi's Cafe has such a low rating on Yelp. Â I've been here a handful of times (mostly for breakfast, once for lunch) and I have been happy at every visit. Â
My husband and I are always amazed at how much food is served for the price! Â I tend to get an omelette that has spinach and cheese topped wtih bacon, avacado, and tomatoes. Â It is delicious! Â
For lunch the one time I got the shrimp po boy wrap and it was amazing! Â
Like I said, i have never been dissapointed here so maybe I am missing something but will continue to come back here in the future!
Wow. Â I am sad to see that Mimi's Cafe got such a low rating here on Yelp. Â The few times that I have been here, my food & service has been great! Â I actually went today and had the best pumpkin muffin EVER. Â It almost tasted like a cinnamon toast crunch. Â Along with that I had the Lorraine Quiche which was good but not great. Â It came with a side salad and a variety of fresh fruits. Â The Asian Poppy Seed dressing is really good! Â Make sure to try it :) Â The corn chowder is amazing too.
I also really like the fact that Mimi's offers healthy, low-calorie options for those who are trying to lose weight and be healthy. Â If you go on their website, they offer nutritional facts for all of their foods.
I had heard that Mimi's was a little pricy. But hell, if the food is good quality it equals out. What I didn't expect were the tiny portions. If I'm paying $13.00 for a dinner, I shouldn't have to search the plate for the main course.
Maybe the bad sign was when the hostess became huffy when I requested to sit in a booth. Sorry, I hate tables because it seems everyone bumps into you during dinner. I like my personal space.
We order our dinners. I went with the mahi mahi, while my mom ordered a fried fish plate with shrimp. We both had soup as well. The French onion was extremely salty. My gumbo didn't even taste like gumbo. It was more like beef gravy with gumbo vegetables. The bread was good but it was one mini  sample with a pad of butter.
The main entrees arrived and there was complete disappointment with both plates. My mom's fish was a single fish stick with two tiny mini shrimps on top of a bed of fries. The mahi mahi was a small (2oz?) square of fish with a citrus sauce that was definitely overpowering. When the asparagus looks giant compared to the fish, that's a problem. I wasn't expecting half the sea on my plate, but damnit for that price I expected more. I didn't pay a good dime for brown rice and asparagus alone. My fish was cooked well, but my mom's was completely overcooked to the point it was flaking and she could barely eat it with a fork.
Dessert time came with more sad faces. The chocolate mousse wasn't light and airy, but had a thicker consistency than even pudding. The apple crisp was adequate though the apples were a bit sour in some spots.
The service here was mediocre. Our waitress did her job and nothing more. One part did bother me. When the soups were served, I had a spoon with my bowl  but the waitress told my mom, "Our busboy didn't show up so you'll have to use the spoon in the (folded silverware set) napkin." That struck me as a tad unprofessional.
If Mimi's was telling me something, I heard loud and clear. I don't think I'll ever be back. Something is wrong when every table around us was getting food comped for some reason or another.
It had been a while since we'd gone to this Mimi's (kind of funny, as my family frequented one in another state regularly), but when the weather started to get cold recently we got a collective hankering for their French Onion Soup, so a dinner visit was made.
Their soup is perhaps the best thing on the menu; it never changes (thankfully!) and has such a rich flavor, and when the cheese is really broiled it all comes together.
The rest of the menu changes occasionally; they seem to have focused on adding more smaller plates (good if you're dieting, trying to save money, or want a "soup and..." option). I got a bowl of soup and a small wedge salad (for $2.99!), unfortunately the salad came on a really small plate which made it rather awkward to cut, which perhaps they can consider.
We had a really engaged and fun waitress who said she was pretty new, so it was fun to talk with her; she was very into explaining the menu (even though as veterans we knew a lot about it already, but we were happy to hear what she had to say).
I tend to want to eat at Mimi's more in the winter (just b/c of the soup factor), so as the days get colder I'm sure I'll be making visits again.
I didn't know what to expect from the up and down reviews of Mimi's but this is where 2 friends wanted to meet for lunch. Â At the end of it, I was pleased. Â
It's a clean, pretty atmosphere...We had 3 adults and a 9 month old baby. Â The first thing they did after seating us, in a large comfy booth, was bring a little snack plate with an orange slice and cheerios with a kids menu. Â It was perfect. Â That gave us some time to look over the extensive menu and keep the baby happy. Â
There are breakfast, lunch and dinner options; they have specials as well. Â Both friends brought coupons and they let us use both. Â We started with a flatbread pizza 'small plate.' Â My friends each raved about the French Onion soup (I've never had it and even if it had caused my friend to send her husband here to get it for her when she was pregnant, I just didn't think onions were that much of my thing!) They tried sandwiches and I had the turkeywrap with fries. Â The food wasn't outstandingly good but it was good. Â We ended with the classic dessert trio (warm brown ala mode, bread pudding and hot apple crisp). Â My feelings about bread pudding match my feelings about French Onion soup but I would definitely reorder the other two desserts. Â I really like the small plate, just enough and sample dessert size options. Â
The other thing that I thought was interesting was that both the waitress and a manager checked on us thru out the meal. Â Not in an overwhelming way but in a good customer care way. Â The manager also picked up on the fact that it was a first time visit for two of us. Â She brought by complimentary muffins to take home, coupons and to-go menus. Â I thought that was awesome and haven't been to a place that can match that offer. Â
I might be biased because I was in really good company, but I liked my Mimi's experience and will definitely be back!
As a vegetarian, I don't have tons of options at Mimi's; however, they make a wonderful soup that I could eat everyday. Â It's the corn chowder, thick and hardy with chunks of potatoes and celery. Â It can be a light meal by itself with the wonderful bread basket (french bread and carrot bread) that comes to every table. Â Now if only they had a bottomless soup bowl on the menu...yum!
Review Source:OMG! Are you kidding me if I could give this place no stars I would. I don't even know where to begin. The blueberry muffin was good ummmmm that's it. Greasy bacon, cold omlette to the point where the cheese was able to set again, or maybe I should tell you about the $2.39 Â I paid for 10 grapes and the honeydew. This place is THE WORST!!!!! Coco Berry we will never cheat on you again. P.S. You know it's bad when your writting this still sitting in the restaurant!!!!!
Review Source:Totally forgettable. How this place continues to be in such an expensive area baffles me. Its easily the most forgettable place I have been to recently in Naperville. Nothing is great, everything is decent to bad. Its a cafe and they have a lot of run of the mill foods like burgers, chicken sandwiches but the truth is, Chilis does a better job and at a cheaper price. They switched servers on us without really telling us which I found weird. Honestly, though, you're going to walk out with a $20-30 tab and you're going to wish you went to one of 100 other places that does the same food only better and cheaper.
Review Source:We went to Mimi's on a Sunday afternoon for a birthday lunch, and I have to disagree with a lot of the people who have reviewed this place. Yes, it is a chain, and yes some of the food can be a bit pretentious sounding, but their basic menu is solid and the food is tasty. Everyone at the table ordered different things...burgers, pasta, fish, chicken pot pie and chicken fingers. All of the food was well prepared, hot and tasty. The best thing? The chicken pot pie. Flaky crust, chunks of chicken...yum! We also shared the appetizer platter and the fried pickles. The pickles with the dip, to die for.
We all shared their trio dessert, a big enough taste of their best desserts, and the muffins, well they are great too! Â Again, a kid friendly place, but a great place for the girls after shopping, or for a nice lunch by yourself.
Went in for a late mid-week lunch. Â There were a lot of people in the place. Â The food is on a par with Cracker Barrel. Â Service was good. Â The grilled meatloaf was almost black. Â Very unappetizing. Â Why would anyone grill meatloaf anyway? Â The mashed potatoes tasted like instant. Â On the plus side they have a bar.
Review Source:Well, I'd heard good things about Mimi's, but meh. Â My food was ok and everything was ok, I guess. Â Not very warm, which is kind of a pet peeve of mine. Â On the up side, the waitress was friendly and we were seated right away.
We probably won't be back. Â It's about on par with a Chili's or Applebees.
Mimi's rating went down as our dining experience continued. Â The restaurant is spacious, and upon being seated, I mentally noted that the next booth's pancakes and breakfast potatoes looked delectable.
I tried the seasonal turkey pistachio salad croissant. Â It tasted like all the ingredients of a salad: mayo, celery, cranberries, fat. Â But when the sammich doesn't taste like the two ingredients in the name of the dish, uh, something's gone wrong. Â
We had every intention of giving the classic ensemble dessert a try, mini versions of bread pudding, brownie a la mode, and apple cinnamon crisp all served on a platter, but the waitress plopped our check down on the table before we could even order it. Â How often does that happen? Â I'm used to being beaten over the head with a dessert menu and/or pleading for the check so I can go off on my merry way.
Anyway, my dining mate and I are dessert monsters, so we ordered the ensemble, but Mimi's ran out of bread pudding! Â HEARTBREAK! Â Mimi's didn't have any day old bread? Â Really? Â So we substituted the chocolate mousse for the MIA bread pudding, and the mousse turned out to be the best of the three samplers. Â The brownie was pretty funky in a bad way. Â I have never consumed a baked good that tasted like seaweed. Â
The bathroom smelled like dirty water and Chlorox. Â Just foul.
Long story short: if you're in this area, you're much better off dining at Biaggi's.
My wife and I returned for a follow up to our less than eventful first visit. Word must have got around that this place opened less than spectacularly because we arrived on a Friday night and the parking lot was pretty scarce. We were immediately seated (another bad sign) and put in a area of the restaurant that was quite chilly with a view looking out to the patio that we did not know was even there. It was perfect outside even though we decided to stay put, but wished they had asked us if we'd like to sit out there. This is a great sell for a new place.
We had a great server who was giving outstanding service to us and all the other tables she had. She checked on us often and had a great attitude. A far cry from what we experienced three weeks ago. I had my usual corn chowder which is a must on every visit. The bread was delicious and my wife loves the blueberry muffin which has an angel food cake consistency (very tasty with a salad or soup).
They were featuring a Sangria which came out in a short glass and was more liquor than fruit/wine flavored. When the bill came it was rang up as upcharged premium liquor at , if I remember $9.50! I think I'll pass next time. I had the "surf n' turf", which came out hot and cooked perfectly. The skirt steak was flavorful and this dish is the perfect size after putting down appetizers, soups and bread. The shrimp are flame grilled, but a little dry on the oustide (a little butter or oil before service would make it perfect). Not a problem though as the steak comes with a pesto butter that I used to baste the shrimp. Much better.
I will definately return to try more dishes and am confident management is getting better at improving the kitchen and service. I would say give it another chance if it's in your neighborhood. Otherwise, it's not worth traveling too far to get to.
Thumbs up to huge desserts and awesome dinner breads.
A fairly diverse menu which probably has something to satisfy most everybody in a group.
I had a dish off their "Just Right" (smaller portion) menu called the Surf 'n Turf which consisted of probably a 6oz steak along with a skewer of shrimp, and a side salad with strawberries on top. Â It definitely was a more reasonable size for the goal of the "Just Right" menu, and rang in at about $11.50. Â Add a soup to most entrees for $1.20, which is worth it for a cup of clam chowder.
Service is a little slow - but the good thing is that service can be improved easier than food quality can be. Â Food here was great overall for our party of 4, and the desserts with of ridiculous portions.
I went with my family and found this place fairly disappointed as they did as well.
My first tip off should have been the the chairs....yes, the chairs! The fakest looking "wood" plastic chairs I've ever seen! They spend a decent amount on decor then cheap out on tables and chairs. They look like plastic from a distance feel like a little tykes chair you buy for 3 year olds.
The food & the menu was generic, but the prices weren't. The menu itself was comparatively small and filled with the generic items you'd find in any run of the mill cook book for beginners. I wouldn't say it was bad, but it wasn't great at all.
Overall, I'd head to the much better Biaggi's next door for similar priced food with quality to match.
