We came here to see Igor and the Red Elvises perform, and because of the distance we arrived really early and had dinner and then hung out til late in the evening. Â
The portions are surprisingly small for the price. Â The meat is good, but I was expecting a lot more! Â The menu is initially confusing to read, so be prepared to read carefully. Â
The staff were all awesome. Â AWESOME. Â
Half of the place is a restaurant/bar and stage, and the other half is a bowling alley. Â The bathrooms are on the far side of the alley, and were decent. Â There was also outside seating - part of the wall rolled up like a garage door so we got fresh breezes all evening, and I'm sure the entire street could hear the performers! Â
I probably wouldn't go back to this particular one due to the distance (unless Igor & Co. are there) but we might check out one of their other branches.
Oh Moe's. Such a weird spot. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty solid. I'll never hesitate to go. I mean, c'mon, bbq and corn bread. Gents of my width rarely say no to bbq and cornbread. But it feels awfully conflicted as far as what it wants to be, but at the same time that seems to work for it.
It's part concert venue, part bbq joint, and part bowling alley. How it manages to be all these things and thrive, I'll never know, but I will admit that there's rarely a time when I'd answer in the negative if asked, "Hey, wanna get some bbq?" I mean, I'm writing this at 8:15 in the morning, and I'll be very honest, my mouth is starting to water. Also I already ate breakfast.
But I digress. Moe's is a lot of things, and one of those things is "pretty damn tasty." I went with the Sandwich meal (eschewing concerts and bowling for just the food) and got Brisket, regular style. I tacked on some cornbread and mac & cheese as a side. I thought it was a touch expensive for the amount of food there actually was, but everything was delicious. Great juicy, smoky brisket on a plain bun. With a pickle hidden inside for a surprise later (that's what he said?). The side of mac was kind of plain, but worked as a nice complement. The cornbread was fantastic -- a nice thick slice of cornbread put on the griddle for just a moment to create a nice brown crust on one side, helping to make that gentle sweetness of the cornbread shine.
Beware, it's an odd spot because everything is counter service. That's not a bad thing, it's just different. All drinks and food must be ordered from the counter, there are no servers. Oh, and before you stop in, check and see if there's a show at The Gothic that night. This place will get super crowded super fast if there is. But don't worry, they leave quick once the doors open.
It's a great pre-concert stop, or a "I need bbq'd meats in my mouth immediately" kind of stop. I'm already excited to go back!
Moe's really does all ages shows well. Â They don't have an identity crisis - they built the perfect venue for kids to see their first show.
Parents can come and watch their tween or teenager enjoy a band. Â There is plenty of seating that's both near and away from the bands. Â Hate the music your kid listens to? Â Bowl next door while your kid rocks out.
Sound
Usually good, sometimes off
Layout
Awesome flow. Â Everything has a place and the place makes sense.
Bands
Lots of great Denver bands, mostly rock, punk or ska. Â Denver's indie bands and pop bands need to play more all ages venues like Moe's if they want to grow the scene.
Bathrooms
Always clean. Â Always in good shape. Â Almost never a line.
Food
They don't have the fried corn the food truck has. Â No fried corn; no care.
We came here for a friends farewell on Saturday night. Â I've been to the other location for shows, this was my first excursion to this one. Â
It's got a little bit of everything - a big bar area, a few bowling lanes, live music, and of course, BBQ.  They have a decent tap list and  the food is of good quality.  I'd like to see some more variety of sauces, but it's still tasty.
My one critique from the other night was the service at the lane counter. Â The gal who was working there that night had a tendency to notice people at her counter who wanted something, but ignored them in favor of chatting with her friends. Â I finally gave up and went to the bar on the other side where the service was better.
Overall, this Moe's isn't a bad place to go, but not being much of a bowler I would need some decent music or a special occasion to come back.
Fabulous BBQ!
I had the Bama style pulled pork sandwich w/ beans and banana pudding. We tried the cornbread and the chicken wings also.  The pulled pork is moist, tender and delicious, no dryness or over-smoke here.  The Bama style slaw and sauce compliment the meat perfectly.  The smoked wings follow suit  they are also tender and moist yet the skin was crispy, smokey with a little spicy, perfectly done.  Beans and cornbread were tasty as well. Thus far this is the best BBQ I have had.
I cant wait to try the ribs, brisket, and all the sides in the future.  I will definitely be back!
Moe's BBQ is A-OK by me. Their selection will satisfy virtually all customers who enjoy BBQ. Ordering and seating can be a challenge on busy nights, so plan ahead.
Two other positive notes on Moe's: 1) they have a small stage in the back where bands play to packed houses; and 2) there is an attached bowling alley. And although it's small, where else can you get BBQ, live music, and bowling in one location?
Been to Moe's on S. Broadway twice now. Â The first time was for a show, second time was a random saturday afternoon for some bowling, BBQ, beers, pinball and pool. Â
The Bama style pulled pork is to die for. Â A little dry the second time I had it, but some extra BBQ sauce remedied that. Â The beef briscut was also amazing and my vegan friend got the smoked tofu and said it was delicious. Â For sides I have had the jumbalaya and the collard greens, both were REALLY good. Â We also got a basket of the fried pickles... YUM.
The bowling was fun, not too bad, $5/game per person and shoes were $3. Â The pinball machines could use some love. Â Overall fund place to hang out.
As far as a music venue, if there is a smaller band you like, go, its a great venue, good sound, intimate and great food.
I've been to Moe's on several occasions for different things. Most recently it was for the Powerman 5000 show and before that it was the Arrested Development quiz. First things first, the food. Their BBQ is fantastic. This time around I got the catfish platter with two sides and a drink. The catfish was incredible, though fried in nuggets. That didn't matter, it was still filling. It also had cornbread which was quite tasty as well. The sides were mac and cheese and Strawberry Shortcake. Mac and Cheese was Ok, but the Strawberry Shortcake was not. I'll skip that in the future.
Everything is made right in front of you so you know you are getting fresh food. I was watching the cooks prepare the food, bbq it all in giant cookers, and they seemed to take pride in the process.. Every main course I've ever had was delicious.
The beer was about $4 a pint for the craft beer. The selection wasn't huge but I'm a fan of Agave Wheat so that worked well for the time I was there. The beer selection isn't the largest but its not their main focus anyway.
The restrooms are in the bowling alley and they bathrooms are not very big. It makes it rough if the band playing is a huge band or if you are at a themed quiz that Geeks Who Drink put on there. The line can be out the door and they seem to have an issue of running out of paper towels.
The stage is small but kind of cool to see some big names play there. DRI is playing there soon and Powerman 5000 played the night we were there. The sound is hit or miss depending on who is running it that evening. With the layout of the venue, you definitely want to go there for smaller bands and not big bands. You will enjoy yourself a lot more and be able to get to the bar when you need to.
I'm not sure how much bowling is, but the alleys seem to be in great shape and there is an arcade on the second level in the bowling alley area. I will definitely be back since it is one of those places I can't seem to avoid being a music lover.
Okay, so they have kind of a cool concept with the attached bowling alley. They have a promising menu but their BBQ just doesn't stack up. I think they're expecting you to drown your meat in sauce - this is not what I look for with BBQ. Your results may vary. A good place to bring the kids maybe.
Review Source:Walked in late on a Tuesday night, hungry, tired, needing some sustenance. Moe's was the only hive of activity on an otherwise quiet Broadway. The place was packed, waiting for a band to start.
We sat at the bar, two people dressed for work among the tee shirts, jeans, tattoos and piercings. None of that matters, because Moe's serves excellent BBQ. I had the 4 RIB main with two sides and corn bread, while my companion had a simple side of the brisket. This 'cue is moist, compared to my usual dry Kansas City-style favorite. The sauce complemented it wonderfully. For sides, we had the Mac & Cheese and Slaw. The Mac would have been a mean on its own.
Friendly staff, loud music, and a fitting late night snack.
I've been here a few times for shows and each time is sort of a fiasco. Â The sound quality is decent, but the layout as a venue is really forced and unnatural. Â Each time I've noticed a very understaffed bar, which makes getting a drink nearly impossible.
I'm sure their BBQ is decent enough, but I've never been able to order any because it's always so crowded and understaffed. Â I really wish some of my favorite bands would reconsider their booking decisions here.
The prices aren't that bad. The platters include a lot of food. The first time my boyfriend and I went, we didn't realize there would be a cover for the band going on. Honestly, we just wanted to get food and didn't realize there would be live music that night. The guy at the front told the money-taker to give us a wristband anyhow, and if we liked the music to stick around and then pay the cover. The place was packed. We eventually found a seat at the bar and enjoyed our food. We were pleasantly full and didn't stay around for the music, but it seems like a fun place to catch a small time show.
I've been a few times. The food is always good. I don't love the beans, since they have a lot of green peppers in them. My boyfriend does. Their slaw is pretty good. The cornbread is different, but good. I *love* the brisket.
It's pretty good for the price. I'm always stuffed when we leave. I just wish they let you call ahead for takeout. Oh, and it's very hipster inside. Par for course, given location. But, don't let that keep you from visiting. When in doubt, slap on a tight ironic t-shirt, a flannel overtop, skinny jeans, chucks, and horn rimmed glasses. You'll fit in whether you're a guy or a girl.
What I had? Â Small Rib Platter (St. Louis cut Spare Ribs), Marinated Slaw, Potato Salad, and Corn Bread
Food review: Â Going to start off by saying I did like the BBQ here a little better than Boney's which I had recently. Â The ribs were just a little more moist and had a little more flavor. Â Much like Boney's, however, the sides were not so great. Â The potato salad had the consistency of mashed potatoes and didn't have a great flavor. Â The slaw was ok but wasn't of a creamy variety (which I prefer.. that's my fault really). Â The corn bread was decent and not dry but not a fan of peppers in corn bread. Â So, once again, it was the BBQ that saved this review from being negative.
Service? No complaints
I don't know about you but I like to receive an initial greeting when I walk into a place. Especially when the joint is empty. Â
On a weekday afternoon for a late lunch, Moe's large space was cold and quiet. Hi how are you today? Nope, nothing. Thank goodness we got a friendly thank you when we left.
It was a first time for all 6 of us at Moe's which we were told is the best place in Denver for Q.
For Q, the prices are super cheap but then that all makes sense once you get your order. Talk about portion control mastered to a tee. I'm not trying to gorge myself at lunch but certain style eats I expect heaping portions. Q is one of them.
Ok so this joint is a bowling ally/bar/Q joint. When you walk in you immediately see the bowling ally and then to your left is the bar area and where you place your order. You actually order at the bar counter and then take a seat. I saw a bunch of stands with numbers but we were not given one. Probably bc we were the only ones in there. So when our orders were up they called out the order and we picked it up from the bar counter where we ordered. I didn't really think anything of it until I got around to writing this review, but I know when they are busy they wouldn't do that that. Â They would more that likely give you the number and bring the food to you. So I gotta say it that the level of service on our visit was pretty much not good. Although, he did ask while we were eating if we enjoyed everything and we also did get a "thanks for coming" when we left.
The menu had all your standard BBQ fares. I went for the 2 meat plate and choose the pulled pork and hot links. Along with the meal you get a choice of two sides, I got baked beans and potato salad, cornbread comes standard and we all ordered a small banana pudding for dessert. Â Our food was ready pretty fast and when I got my tray with everything in its own portion cup I was like ok.
Here's what I liked about my eats
- Cornbread, it was BOMB! Thick, moist, sweet and they grilled it which added this awesome crust to the top. No honey or butter was needed for this cornbread and that impressed me. I wanted a second slice.
- Baked Bean were super good. Hell i was sold on them as soon as i took my first bite and my fork hit a big chunk of something and i pulled it out and it was a huge hunkO BACON! Mmmmm!!! Great flavor with a good kick from the spices. I usually add extra BBQ sauce in my beans  but none was needed. I really liked this dish but most in my group thought it was just ok.
- Hot Links, loved how they were served cut super thin and the outer casing had a perfect crisp to it.
Misses for this meal
- Potato Salad, eep no. Visually it looked awful to the point where before I even tried it we thought that it just screamed you will get sick if you eat that. I tried it, didn't get sick, but I would not recommend this side. It tasted like the grocery store heavily dressed pre packed potato from the deli area.
- Pulled Pork, was to wet. It reminded me of how this one time when I reheated pulled pork and I added to much water when reheating it. It was really mushy and made for bad almost slimy texture.
- Sweet Tea needed to be sweeter.
- Banana Pudding was a no either. The additional flavors of cinnamon or nutmeg was not needed and ruined the flavor for me. Thank goodness I went for just the small side and not the pint.
I'm having trouble believing that this is the best Q Denver has to offer. We didn't get the best service when we were the only ones in there so I can only imagine what kind of service you get when they are busy. This joint sadly gets a Meh from me.
I have been here three times and love it each and every time!
I love to bowl, and I am at my best when I am in a super fun environment. They play JamOn which is my favorite channel on Sirius radio. I love Widespread Panic and there are lots of jam concert posters on the walls and the crowd is usually really chill. I don't like going to a bowling alley and feeling uptight. I know a lot of people like to take their bowling way seriously, and that's fine. But when I bowl I am doing it for fun with friends. I think everyone else there is down for the same feel.
The food is pretty good. I ordered the BBQ Chicken Sandwich with a side of baked beans and banana pudding. I love the real Southern sides. The homemade BBQ sauce is amazing on any of the dishes.
The service is also great. When I went in for the second time the bartender remembered my drink which is always impressive. We had an instance where the lane froze up and they were right on it. Super nice people work here!
I recommend calling for a bowling reservation on the weekends because it can get pretty busy. They also do league nights sometimes but I am not quite sure what night it is...
I went into Moe's with low expectations, after reading some reviews that lambasted their BBQ. Â However, it's next door to the Gothic Theater and I was hungry! Â I didn't check out the bowling side of the establishment, but we found a spot at the counter, which we mistakenly thought was the bar, and after a few minutes of confusion as to whether we would actually get service from any of the staff behind the counter, we realized that most of the guys back there were in food prep - not waitstaff. Â
Once that was cleared up and we found our server, things went very well. Â The guys behind the counter got chatty and they were more than willing to discuss their favorites on the menu and give us some tastes. Â The BBQ was good - not overly sweet, and we were happy with our sides, as well. Â The only complaint is that we would have gone for another round of beers, had anyone stopped by to ask, but business picked up as showtime got closer and so we went without. Â I brought my cornbread wrapped in a napkin to the show at the Gothic, and right about Encore time, it made the perfect snack before shuffling off to find our car. Â
The vibe in the dining room of Moe's is very much "slumming". Â I felt as though I had stepped back in time with lots of formica and grime, not such a bad thing. Â Its just very different from overly designed concept spots like H Burger, for instance. Â
I'd come back here for food before a show again, as its just about the only time I'm in this 'hood, but probably wouldn't stop in for bowling, as I have Elitch Lanes right up the street.
Moe's is a lot of fun - go for a good show, good BBQ, and a fun setting.
The food is not the absolute best BBQ in town, but it's pretty darn good, especially for the price. Â I really like the blackened fish platter.
The number one reason to hit Moe's is the CORNBREAD. Â Pan baked, buttery in the middle, crispy on the outside and yummy.
Give this place a shot and check out the local talent. Â Or knock down a few pins. Â Either way, you'll have a good time.
Their meat is great...super tasty, super tender, overall just awesome.
The service? At this location is okay...nothing to write home about. You want a GREAT experience go to the one off Kipling and Morrison. Those guys rock.
But back to the point about the food..everything is really good. I like the fact that their sides change and are actually pretty dynamic and unique compared to the OTHER bbq chain around town. Try the succatash sometime..it's delish.
I don't like the fact there is only one sauce. My tastes change often (I like variety) and I like my options in sauce to be there when they do... :) For an awesome variety in sauces, try The Q in Cherry Creek.
We joined some friends for a few rounds of bowling last night. I've driven past Moe's many times but last night was my first venture inside. Since I'm a suburbanite who expects ample parking everywhere I go (and can't parallel park to save my life), we were pretty frustrated that we couldn't find a parking space closer to Moe's. The ominous "You will be towed" signs scared the you-know-what out of us and we moved our car from King Sooper's to a space a bit north of the Gothic.
I liked being able to order food while we bowled. I agree that the prices are a bit inflated. I got the catfish and it was decent. I probably should have gotten something smothered in BBQ since it IS a BBQ joint.
The fun I could have had was minimized by the lack of seating. There are 3 seats for each lane and we had 6 bowlers. We were at least fortunate to be in the right corner where there are 3 extra seats hidden along the back wall. However, sitting there meant sitting away from our friends and having to play musical chairs in order to be social.
Overall a fun place with a cool vibe. We'd go again if invited.
We found this place by accident when we were waiting for a show to start at the Gothic. Â
A few things that I really like about it are that they serve Oskar Blues beers, have Guinness on tap, and delicious fried pickles.
The downside was that there weren't any servers where we sat and that meant waiting in a slow line to get mi Guinness.
Most people are rating this place based on its BBQ qualities (don't attack me, I get it, it IS Moe's Original BBQ-- not Moe's Original Tiny Concert Venue.) I'm rating it based on it's qualities as a cool place to be on a Friday night. A nice amount of TVs, good BBQ (for me, anyway, I don't care if you don't think so. This is my review, go write your own!) and a bowling alley. Lots to do and you don't even have to leave the building.
I've been here a few times to see friends play a small show on their little stage-- this place was much cooler when it was "The Falcon"-- and once or twice purely for the food. The  music area is tiny but the sound guy is good. Bowling here is a really good time, and despite some angry yelpers on here, I'm a big fan of the BBQ here. The staff is all pretty cool and humorous.
Regarding the food there... I would do unspeakable things to get my hands on a lifetime supply of hot wings and banana pudding from this place. Let's leave it there.
We stopped by in the middle of the afternoon on a Monday. I had the half pound pulled pork, mac & cheese and sweet potato casserole. She had the half chicken with the same sides. BBQ sauce was pretty good, but would have liked a bit more variety to choose from. The food was served picnic style (disposable wares, etc.). The staff was friendly and conversational.
They have outdoor seating right out front. The food was ready in less than 5 minutes. It was a functional meal really. Meaning, we were there to just grab a bit and roll out of there. It worked out for us very well, but I couldn't help but think it might be a cool place to see at some other time of the week...perhaps an evening later in the week.
I'd definitely go back. I happen to live on the wrong side of town to make it a point to get back over there.
I've been here several times for shows (they do live music) and have tried the BBQ and must say that is pretty damn tasty.
The bar service is another story. They have a few cool bartenders and some not so cool or should I say attentive. The first time I went there we just popped in for a drink and almost left because no one paid us any attention, my friend was pretty upset because he worked in the service industry and thought that was bullshit. I had gone back and had an awesome server named Josh who seemed to be on top of things and was really cool. I was there last night for a show and I think they had 2 bartenders for about 200 people and were out of food?!! Yes, they ran out of food at 8p. Catfish was the only thing that was left. Boooo!!!
The door guy and the sound guy were both super cool. I was skeptical about a band playing in a BBQ joint/bowling alley but the stage and sound are really good. The venue is small, but comfortable. There is a patio in front and this place is usually pretty busy around dinner time with locals.
It's true. This place is one giant identity crisis! Although, that can have it's advantages.
#1) The bowling alley on one side provides an area for families to have their fun.
#2) The bar area is strange. The blue lighting lining the bottom of the bar and trendy blue lights above would signal some kind of posh hipster place, but that is in the foreground to a greasy cooking area. Hmmm...does not compute.
#3) There are a lot of tables if you are stopping in for some grub.
#4) A nice stage area sits in the back of one side. It's a decent sized stage and a pretty good sound system to match.
So it's a dinermusicalleymagigg...place. I LOVED their patio area. It has plenty of tables and lots of standing room. I only had experience with the music venue side of this place, so no input on food or bowling.
Moe's: Half bar, half concert venue, half restaurant, half bowling alley, half "that place right next to the Gothic." If there is anything negative to be said about Moe's it's that the place seems to have a sort of identity crisis on its hands.
I have been to Moe's for two very different events now. The first was a concert (yes, they have bands play) and the second was for the Geeks Who Drink Simpsons quiz. Both times I've had a good time and have experiences pretty good service at the counter.
The BBQ pulled pork sammuch I had was to die for with just the right kind of BBQ sauce (I like it sweet) and just the right amount of meat on the sammuch. The sides that I had with my meal, mashed sweet potatoes and mac and cheese, were just OK. Plus, the portions were insanely tiny, one small ramekin of each.
The place serves beer and they serve a pretty good variety, from PBR to several craft beer brands. The prices aren't over the top expensive, nor are there any great beer deals to be had.
As I said before, this place seems to be in the middle of a sort of identity crisis and it seems to lead to some confusion about what they actually are. Yes, the place serves beer. No, they do not have servers. You have to go and get your beer at the counter. However, they do have busboys that clear off the tables throughout the evening.
Yes, Moe's owns the bowling alley next door. No, I don't know if it's still called Falcon Lanes, but that seems to be how most people know the place.
Yes, Moe's has a stage, albeit a small one, but I have seen bands play there. No, this place is not a good place to see a band. The narrow hallway leading into the concert space and the lack of access to a bar near the stage make it pretty unideal for concert watching.
So, yes, the place has a pretty amazing entree menu, their sides leave a little to be desired. And no, you are not alone in feeling confused about what kind of place Moe's actually is.
When I die, I hope to go out drowning in a vat of banana pudding from Moe's.
We had a great evening at Moe's last night. It was my first time there. Old bandmates of mine were gigging, and a good sized group of our friends showed up in support. Â Everyone enjoyed themselves immensely. Â Good food, good music, good times.
Between all of us, I'm certain we sampled just about everything on the menu. Â I wish I would have sampled more personally. Â I had the ribs, with mac and cheese and banana pudding. Â
The staff was very nice. They were a busy bunch, and kept their senses of humor the entire night. Â Good people.
Our posse is already contemplating getting one of the big take out combos for a party soon, and have discussed going back for dinner and bowling even sooner.
I should note, because I was tripped up by this at first, that when you're ordering at Moe's, be it food or drink, you don't use the bar per usual. Â Go to the registers and order. Â The barstaff will work to accommodate you if you don't, but their system is to go to the registers. Â FYI.
Make sure you try the banana pudding. Â As I tried to say in my first sentence, it's to die for.
If I was a child, a millionaire child, to whom money meant nothing, a child who had never left the city of Englewood, a child who had never experienced good service or a well run restaurant - then I would think that Moe's was a fantastic barbecue joint.
I however am a man. I'm a man who was born in Kansas City, MO, mecca for barbecue, and to whom barbecue means smoke, low heat, and time. It means care, it means not compromising, it means tender, smoke-ringed meats.
This man thinks that Moe's sucks. This man feel that whoever Moe is, he should be embarrassed to call this barbecue.
The meat is dry, chewy, has no smoke flavor to it, and the sauce is an inadequate sauce to stand up to the poor offerings for barbecue that is moes. They only have pork and chicken. Fried foods ain't barbecue. French Fries might be barbecue, but they don't have them here, and if they did they wouldnt give you enough to be satisfied.
The portions are TINY here. The sides come in a portion smaller than a dixie cup - and not the adult one, the tiny one that your parents gave you to drink when you were 9. The sandwich portions are embarassing. The buns are low quality, supermarket quality buns. The small ones that you might bring to a company function when you need 36 buns and you don't want to break the bank.
The beans were good, they weren't great. They had too much sugar in them, which didn't matter because they were so small that there was no risk of sugar overload. How small of portion were we talking? About 4 heaping tablespoons worth of beans.
The "marinated" coleslaw was awful. It had terrible mouth feel, and had been made long ago. It looked like they had been storing it out back under a dumpster.
The meat was pale, dry, tasteless, and it was probably better that there was so little of it.
The sauce was OK, it was one of the worst sauces I've had in town at a real place, but better than say, the Kraft BBQ Sauce at the grocery store.
The only good thing I put in my mouth here was the banana pudding which delicious, albeit in an entirely too small container.
$9 with two sides and a drink is a good deal for a BBQ sandwich with appropriate  portions, which they are not. If this was say, an Arthur Bryant's sandwich I would gladly pay $9, but it's not. It's bad food, in small portions. There is MUCH better barbecue to be found in Denver.
I was skeptical at first....
My friend dragged me to Moe's, and pulling up to the bowling alley was not where I would have expected to find really good BBQ. I got the pulled pork platter, and the sauce was perfect, with a vinegary tang. It was the sides that got me though. Tasty collard greens, cheesy grits, and the best was the cornbread. Soooo bad for you yet so good. You could taste the butter, but these are skillet made, and have a great crispy crust.
The atmosphere is a little weird, but hey, it is a bowling alley as well!
There is nothing bad about a place where you can both eat amazing BBQ and bowl a couple of games! Â The food here is similar to the Moe's in Vail, damn good! Â I always order the 1/2 bbq chicken and it's more than enough food for a whopping $10. Â You also get a choice of 2 sides, and while I was sad that they didn't have mashed sweet potatoes on my last visit, I still enjoyed the mac n'cheese and banana pudding. I HIGHLY recommend the banana pudding. So yummy and creamy with nilla wafers on the top and bottom!
My only complaint really is the BBQ sauce-it's a little too watery for my tastes. I also tried my bf's ribs, and they were a little fatty. I'd say the chicken is the way to go here if you're trying to somewhat eat healthy.
This location is huge and offers tons of seating and is completely separate from the bowling alley. Go up the stairs to find an oldschool pinball machine!!
If they changed Moe's motto to "barbeque so good, it'll give you a boner" a lot of dudes probably wouldn't eat there because, for the most part dudes don't care to hang around a bar and bowling alley with a bunch of other dudes with stiffies.. But...the barbeque really is good enough to give you a boner.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go take care of this boner Moe's Barbeque I had for dinner  gave me.
I went here with Dan W. and our buddy Matt. Â We bowled for 3 hours, ate BBQ sandwiches with sides and all drank beers. Â Total cost? Â $61. Â I think that was quite a steal for the length of time we spent occupying a bowling lane, drinking and eating. Â
I had the Catfish sandwich with baked beans and I thought it was really good. Â The bowling lanes have couches for relaxing, they have a nice archaic automated scoring system and a small loft area with video games and pool. Â I think I'll go back here with Ladyhawk and show her a good time.
If Moe's on Broadway were any better it would be perfect and that would be a shame. Â No good BBQ joint is perfect. Â
Moe's serves 'Bama style BBQ - rubbed and smoked then served with a very basic vinegar based sauce which provides a perfect tang. Â The ribs are fantastic - falling from the bone and juicy without being fatty, gross and sloppy. Â I am a huge fan of the smoked Turkey although I would appreciate a larger serving for the price. Â
Perhaps my favorite thing about Moes is the smell of the smoke when they crack the doors on the huge stainless smoker. Â It's wonderful. Â Of course, the place is in the former Sport Bowl so they have lanes - which is awesome. Â
One suggestion - more beer taps. Â Pilsner Urquel and Miller Lite are an odd duo. Â I would like to see a dozen or so beers.
Even though I LOVE barbeque and try every new place that opens, I had hesitated to try Moe's because I heard it is part of a bowling alley and frankly I didn't want to eat in a bowling alley. Â Well, here's the scoop -- there's a dining room separate from the bowling alley, and there was a very nice, helpful guy at the counter where you order.
I tried the ribs which were excellent. Â They only have one barbecue sauce, but they only need one -- it's terrific.
I didn't know which sides to pick. Â The previously mentioned guy at the counter said to definitely go with the baked beans. Â I can see why he recommended them. Â They were very good.
The mac & cheese (a side dish special today) was not the best mac & cheese in town, but very good.
Last, but not least, the griddled cornbread that comes with the platters is outstanding.
I'll definitely go back. Â Do you think tomorrow would be too soon?
I have been to Moe's now twice in one month - once for my husband's office party and last night for a friend's birthday. Both times I came away with a smile on my face - so it's got to be good!
The first time we visited Moe's for the office party we ate some of their delicious BBQ. Even though I was a little late and my food could have been hotter (not their fault - but mine for being late) the flavors were some that I still crave!
Last night we didn't eat but had some drinks and bowled a few games which was fun. One lane was broken and ours had a few technical glitches, but somehow the atmosphere at Moe's is good and laid back so we didn't stress about it too much.
One thing I'd warn against - Moe's puts a sign on the front door about not parking in the lot next door which belongs to a number of other small businesses. They're not kidding when they say you'll be towed. Our friend Rich is shelling out $200+ today to get his car back... Consider yourself warned! There is plenty of street parking and a generous lot across the street next to the gas station that doesn't put you at risk for being towed. Enjoy!
Good local business to support! Â Lots of fun to be had by all that come here. Â Here's the equations: Great BBQ + live music + bowling + full bar + great pinball = an evening you'll soon not forget!! Â
Big TVs, lots of room and comfortable seats! Â Lots to do, or just come watch the Broncos and chill....
Oh, and they have touch screen.....
This establishment used to be the Sport Bowl Lanes & Billiard, and has since come under new ownership (associated with The Gothic) and has a WHOLE new look and feel!
The place is divided into two portions: Â The south side is a long room with a full-service bar, a stage at the far end for live music, tables/chairs and a separate entrance.
The north side consists of the bowling lanes, billiard tables, dining tables, restrooms, and a few pinball machines. This used to be a single main level, but they have opened up a smaller upper level, accessible by 2 different stairways, that offers more billiard tables, seating, and a nice lookout over the bowling lanes and toward the south side.
Bowling shoes: Â $6 per pair
Bowling game: Â $5 each
Billiards: Â not sure - we didn't play
They also offer a menu that seems to provide a variety of food/drinks, although we got a look at someone's leftover pizza and it looked like your typical frozen pizza. Â But my midori sour was just lovely...and the wait staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, particularly when I needed to purchase some milk for our 18-month old whom we brought along.
That's another thing - while the bare-essentials, industrial feel is attractive for many age groups, it also provides a pretty safe area for a toddler to tool around with their parent chasing after them. :)
Parking is also not a big problem at night, with the shopping plaza around the corner, and KingSoopers is right across Floyd St.
We're definitely going back - very fun!
